Seducing and Flirting with Boss O While Stockpiling in the Apocalypse (GL) - Chapter 53
Luo Sheng and Nan Shuwan heard the screams from the mezzanine. The two, who had been about to chat, exchanged a quick look and immediately rushed downstairs, only to witness a terrifying scene.
Nan Chu’s face was pale as she swung a broom wildly, while Liu Lin was so terrified she covered her face and hid behind Nan Chu. Her greatest fear was animals with either too many legs or no legs at all.
Snakes were easily her most hated creature; their soft bodies, smooth scales, and highly aggressive fangs made her feel physically nauseous just looking at them.
The others rushed to the scene as well. Qiao Bai’s hand trembled so much the rod she was holding nearly fell to the floor, because the creature climbing outside the window was no ordinary small snake—it was a massive python.
Its forked tongue flickered, seemingly very interested in the humans inside. Its golden vertical pupils glowed with a faint green light as its body twisted, coiling upward from the water bit by bit. The rustling sound of its scales rubbing against the brick wall was enough to make anyone’s skin crawl.
Su Rong asked Luo Sheng in a hushed, strained voice, “What do we do now?”
“Don’t move, just observe,” Luo Sheng whispered, gripping Nan Shuwan’s hand tightly behind her back. “How strange… why is there a python here? And this snake looks odd…”
Nan Shuwan nodded. “Look at its body—grayish-brown with black transverse bars on the sides. Since it can swim, it should be a common water snake by species, but why is it so large?”
“And the eye color is strange too. Could it be…?”
A possibility flashed through Luo Sheng’s mind, but before she could elaborate to Nan Shuwan, the giant snake slammed its head against the kitchen’s glass window. This move sent everyone in the room into a panic.
A python wouldn’t attack a human residence without reason. This house’s glass windows had no protective reinforcements, and after just a few strikes, cracks began to appear. Luo Sheng thought, this is bad! If this thing managed to slither inside, they would be in serious trouble!
She quickly retrieved a bucket of diesel from her space, intending to use the fire method again, but the python was faster. Opening its bloody maw, it used its head to deliver a full-force blow that shattered the window. Glass exploded everywhere, the shards flying like razor blades.
“Watch out!” Nan Chu shouted. She instinctively turned her body to shield Liu Lin behind her. A sharp fragment sliced into her arm, and blood immediately began to spill out.
Nan Shuwan’s heart tightened as she looked over. The python was desperately trying to force its way through the window opening. Even with jagged glass shards remaining on the frame, nothing slowed its advance.
Fortunately, the kitchen window opening wasn’t very large, and the snake’s body was too thick. After only its head forced through, its massive torso became wedged, leaving it stuck and unable to move further, only able to hiss and roar at the people inside with its bared fangs.
The scene was nightmarish, like a beast from an otherworldly horror movie—it looked utterly surreal.
Its head thrashed wildly, trying to dislodge the window frame embedded in the wall to widen the gap. This motion caused its body and tail to lash out outside, kicking up massive plumes of water, some of which splashed into the kitchen.
Luo Sheng saw her opening. She grabbed the diesel, leaped onto the kitchen counter in two steps, and drenched the snake’s head. Then, she took her long knife and stabbed directly at the python’s eye. With her immense strength, she managed to blind one of the giant snake’s eyes, causing green blood to flow.
The giant python let out a pained cry, its head jerking back out of the windowsill with such force that it scraped the plaster off the walls. Then, its sharp fangs began to spray venom. “Get back!” Nan Shuwan shouted. She grabbed a metal pot lid and jumped forward, holding it over her and Luo Sheng’s heads. The others scrambled into the living room, narrowly avoiding being touched by the venom.
This was followed by the booming sound of the python collapsing into the water. Water flooded through the broken window, soaking Luo Sheng. She supported Nan Shuwan’s arm and asked in a low voice, “Are you okay?”
“I’m fine,” Nan Shuwan shook her head, her gaze worried. “It was too dangerous for you to charge in like that…”
“I had no choice, but thank goodness for you.” Luo Sheng pointed to the pot lid Nan Shuwan had used to shield them, only to discover the metal was already beginning to soften and corrode. It appeared the snake venom was highly corrosive…
She looked back at the windowsill with lingering fear. The green blood that had sprayed out when she stabbed the snake’s eye was splattered across the white wall, emitting a sour, putrid stench.
Luo Sheng hurried back to the living room with Nan Shuwan. The others were peering through the rear windows at the water. The giant snake hadn’t left; its long, black body hovered pliantly beneath the surface, clearly visible.
“I suspect this snake has also mutated,” Luo Sheng said, her tone grave. “It’s lucky everyone dodged in time. If we had been touched by that venom or bitten, the consequences would be unthinkable.”
Qiao Bai, her face deathly pale, gripped Yang Suitong’s hand. “Sister Luo, you mean… animals can turn into zombies too?”
Su Rong and Feng Xi were stunned, while Nan Chu tapped her nose thoughtfully. “No wonder it was so big. By rights, a snake should be hibernating in its nest in this weather. It seems mutated animals are even scarier than human zombies…”
As she spoke, Nan Chu accidentally moved her arm. The pain made her squint, her features contorting. Looking closely, several glass shards were embedded in her flesh, and her arm was a gruesome, bloody mess.
Liu Lin hurried over with antiseptic and cotton swabs. Just as she was about to step forward, Nan Shuwan also arrived with bandages and tweezers. She signaled for Nan Chu to sit on the sofa so she could treat the wound.
However, Nan Chu’s eyes suddenly began to twitch as she signaled frantically to her sister. Nan Shuwan froze, momentarily confused, but when her gaze shifted to Liu Lin, she understood instantly.
Nan Shuwan’s mouth twitched, an expression of disbelief crossing her face. She arched an eyebrow and handed the supplies to Liu Lin with a smile. “Actually, you do it. I’m going to the front to see what’s happening with that giant snake.”
Liu Lin nodded without objection. Since Nan Chu had been injured protecting her, she felt incredibly guilty and had intended to treat her properly. She took the supplies with a soft “okay” and led Nan Chu to sit on the sofa.
In the blink of an eye, the giant snake had vanished without a trace.
Su Rong was worried. “How did it disappear so suddenly? How do these creatures even mutate?”
Luo Sheng scanned the water with binoculars. Aside from some trash and rocks, she saw nothing. “It’s likely the rotting flesh of zombies. It falls into the water, animals eat it, and the virus inside infects them. That snake probably has a lair; it swam away beneath the surface.”
“If snakes can be infected, then surely other animals…” Nan Shuwan walked over, trailing off. “And the water is deep now—at the eleventh floor—covered in thin ice. Our place is only on the thirteenth. If it returns for revenge in the dead of night, wouldn’t that be extremely dangerous?”
Luo Sheng turned back and nodded in agreement. “It’s not impossible. It’s injured now, so it probably won’t act for a while, but it might return in a few days.”
Yang Suitong, hooking her pinky with Qiao Bai’s, couldn’t help but ask, “Then what should we do? We have nowhere else to go.”
This was the core of the problem. If they were constantly attacked by the python or other animals, and their location was exposed, living here would be full of risks. But where else could they go…?
Luo Sheng rubbed her temples, her mind a bit chaotic. She told everyone to help clean the kitchen first. The pot lid was unusable and tossed out. Qiao Bai wiped the green blood off the counter, and Feng Xi used a cloth and newspapers to temporarily patch the broken window.
After finishing, Luo Sheng went to ask Nan Shuwan if Nan Chu had any realgar or snake-repellent in her stockpiled medicine. Nan Shuwan wasn’t sure, so Luo Sheng went to the living room to find Nan Chu.
Nan Chu was currently having the glass shards pulled from her flesh by Liu Lin with tweezers. Sweat beaded on her forehead and tears pricked her eyes from the pain. Liu Lin’s movements were incredibly cautious and full of guilt. After several apologies, she began using a wet towel to gently wipe the blood from around the wound.
When it was a bit drier, she started applying antiseptic with a swab. Hearing Nan Chu hiss in pain again, Liu Lin stopped immediately and asked softly, “Does it hurt? I’ll be gentler…”
She even gave the wound a gentle puff of air. The moist, warm air seemed to actually have a numbing effect. From Nan Chu’s perspective, the girl’s eyelashes were long, and her round face made her look like a delicate porcelain doll.
Nan Chu’s face flushed, though her tan skin hid it well. She immediately shook her head. “It doesn’t hurt! A little scratch like this is nothing!”
Hearing this, Liu Lin continued applying the medicine with a bit more confidence. Nan Chu, suffering in silence, grit her teeth without making a sound. It hurt immensely, but she forced herself to act unbothered. She didn’t know why she was doing it—perhaps to make the girl think she was tough?
Before Nan Chu could think further, someone pressed down hard on her wound. The pain made her break character and howl. She looked up to see Luo Sheng briskly wrapping her arm in gauze, completing the task in less than a minute.
Nan Chu shook her arm and glared at her. Talk about a mood killer!
“Alright, the wound is dressed. Come to the room and help me identify some medicine. I need your help with something.”
Luo Sheng spoke quickly and concisely. As she hurried Nan Chu away, she didn’t forget to give Liu Lin a polite nod and smile.
The young girl was left there, dazed and blushing.
Sister Luo… is so beautiful…
