The Supporting Female Character Was Pampered by the Aloof Heroine - Chapter 2
Tang Yiling was immensely grateful that the storeroom was pitch-black.
Anyone would have trouble staying calm after encountering something like this immediately after transmigrating into a novel, wouldn’t they?
Especially when, from that single hurried glimpse of her in the auditorium, Tang Yiling was almost certain that Li Lan was exactly her type.
So when it happened, she honestly could not tell whether she was taking advantage of Li Lan because she was a transmigrator, or whether Li Lan was bullying her under the protection of her status as a protagonist.
Tang Geyun must have gone all out when she spiked the drink.
Li Lan went through several rounds. Tang Yiling leaned against her chest until her neck ached and her lips gradually went numb.
It lasted so long that Tang Yiling eventually broke free from the initial fluttering in her heart.
At some point, she ended up lying in Li Lan’s arms and fell asleep while Li Lan was still kissing her.
Over the course of just a few hours, Tang Yiling had countless dreams.
She dreamed that her aunt called and asked why she had not come home in so long.
She dreamed that her younger cousin held an enormous bouquet of flowers and insisted on giving it to her.
She also dreamed that her best friend had finally gotten some time off and wanted to take her on a trip.
In the final dream, her manager slammed a document onto the desk and told her it was unacceptable and had to be redone.
The first few dreams had been quite heartwarming.
The last one, however, scared Tang Yiling awake on the spot.
At that moment, she felt that transmigrating into a novel might not be so bad after all.
Before Tang Yiling could confirm her current situation, the door not far away was violently thrown open.
It slammed into the wall, bounced back, and was forcefully shoved open again as someone barged inside.
Morning sunlight streamed in through the doorway.
Tang Yiling was blinded by the light and raised a hand to shield her eyes.
Her nominal older sister stood there holding up a phone, with a group of strangers behind her.
Tang Geyun was clearly dissatisfied with the scene before her. Frowning, she lowered her arm.
“What are you two doing?”
Only then did Tang Yiling realize that she was still lying across Li Lan’s lap.
She looked up.
Li Lan had buttoned her blouse all the way to the collar again. Her skirt was clean and smooth, and she was looking down at Tang Yiling.
“Student, since you’re awake, you should get up.”
Li Lan spoke slowly. “And please help pull me up while you’re at it. My legs have gone numb from you lying on them.”
Tang Yiling tugged at the corner of her lips and gave Li Lan an apologetic smile.
Judging by the position Li Lan was sitting in, she probably had not slept all night.
Tang Yiling did not move for a while, but Tang Geyun soon lost her patience and walked over to yank her arm.
“Senior told you to get up. Didn’t you hear her?”
“I heard.”
Using Tang Geyun’s strength, Tang Yiling barely managed to stand.
“The main problem is that I slept until my body went numb too.”
She turned around and pulled Li Lan up from the floor.
As their palms touched, Tang Yiling inevitably thought about what had happened the previous night.
Li Lan’s hands were beautiful. Her knuckles were clearly defined without being bony, and her nails were neatly trimmed.
Because her skin was so pale, faint blue veins could be seen beneath it, making her hand resemble antique white porcelain patterned with subtle hidden lines.
Those were the very hands that had brushed across Tang Yiling’s cheeks last night and touched her lips.
And besides that, Li Lan’s hand had also…
Tang Yiling looked down at her own hand.
Her brows furrowed slightly, as though she were seriously trying to determine which of Li Lan’s hands she was currently holding.
Li Lan took in every change in her expression.
She released Tang Yiling and walked straight out of the storeroom.
Only then did Tang Geyun react.
“Hey, you’re just leaving like that?”
“What were the two of you doing in here last night?”
Li Lan paused and turned her head slightly.
“Shouldn’t you be the one answering that?”
“Or should I lock you in there too and let you slowly think it over yourself?”
Without waiting for Tang Geyun to reply, she left on her own.
Tang Yiling stared after her retreating figure and almost instinctively took a step to follow her.
“Tang Yiling! Where do you think you’re going now?”
Tang Geyun grabbed her again.
“You stayed out all night. Mom and Dad are still waiting for your explanation!”
The Tang family’s car was parked outside the auditorium.
Tang Yiling only put up a token resistance before Tang Geyun shoved her into it.
Skyscrapers flashed past the windows, making it clear that Ancheng’s economy was quite developed.
The two sisters sat in the back seat, each turning toward a different window. Neither of them spoke again.
Tang Yiling felt a little regretful.
She should not have left so quickly just now. At the very least, she should have secretly taken a photograph.
The people Tang Geyun had brought with her today were all key characters in the plot. The other heroine, Chang Yurou, and the male lead, Gu Feng, had both been among them, but Tang Yiling did not even know which ones they were yet.
Li Lan’s thigh would not be easy to cling to.
Perhaps she could cling to the other heroine instead, or maybe…
Forget the male lead.
For some inexplicable reason, Tang Yiling found him irritating.
The car turned a corner and entered a villa district.
In a city like Ancheng, where every inch of land was worth its weight in gold, the residential community had somehow set aside enormous areas for gardens and greenery. That alone was enough to indicate the neighborhood’s quality and the prices of its properties.
Perhaps Tang Yiling looked more curious than worried.
Tang Geyun spoke at a volume that was neither loud nor quiet.
“You stayed out all night. Why do you still look so happy?”
“Do you have no sense of shame?”
“Let’s see how you explain yourself to Mom and Dad later!”
Tang Yiling withdrew her gaze and hurriedly lowered her head, pretending to be worried.
In truth, she almost wanted to laugh, because Tang Geyun’s words were identical to what had been written in the novel.
Sure enough, fictional characters did nothing but mindlessly follow the plot!
Still, shouldn’t she at least have been assigned a system to give her some guidance?
The car finally stopped in the courtyard.
Tang Yiling followed Tang Geyun out and stepped through the Tang family’s front door.
Inside the living room, a man and a woman sat on the sofa with their backs to the entrance.
Their backs were perfectly straight, and their arms were crossed over their chests. Even when they heard someone enter, they did not turn around.
Tang Geyun’s steps faltered, and her movements became soft and cautious.
Tang Yiling still wanted to laugh.
Those two looked exactly like NPCs waiting for someone to trigger the next plot event.
“Dad, Mom.”
Tang Geyun’s voice became sweet and obedient.
“I brought Tang Yiling back!”
The room fell into an eerie silence.
About three seconds later, the man turned around and shouted in a booming voice, “So you still know how to—”
He abruptly stopped speaking.
His eyes widened even further, and he reached over to grab Tang Geyun’s mother’s arm.
Her mother seemed somewhat annoyed by him. She tried twice to shake him off but failed, so she could only turn around and look over.
With a clatter, Tang Yiling’s phone fell to the floor.
Why did the adoptive parents in the novel look exactly like her biological parents?
And Tang Yiling had not seen those two faces in more than ten years.
On her eighth birthday, Tang Fan and He Wenwei had gotten into a huge argument at home over which of them should take Tang Yiling to her extracurricular class.
Both of them claimed they had something else to do. In the end, they decided to lock Tang Yiling inside the house.
She lay against the windowsill and watched as her parents got into the same car and quickly drove away.
Neither of them remembered that it was her birthday.
Two hours later, someone finally opened the front door.
Little Tang Yiling still had tear tracks on her face and had not even had time to put on her slippers.
She wanted to tell her parents that she would not go to the class anymore, so they did not need to argue.
But the only person she saw at the door was her aunt.
Her aunt crouched down and pulled Tang Yiling into her arms, telling her that from then on, she would live at her house.
Only then did Tang Yiling learn that her parents had been in a car accident.
They would never come back again.
“Dad, I found her inside the auditorium storeroom.”
Tang Geyun broke the silence in the room.
“I don’t know where she was hiding or what she was trying to do!”
“Oh. I-Is that so?”
He Wenwei was the first to react.
“Th-Then next time you’re not coming home, you need to tell your parents. Otherwise, everyone at home will worry.”
Tang Fan’s gaze remained fixed on Tang Yiling’s face.
He Wenwei nudged his arm.
Only then did he come back to his senses.
“Exactly. You’re far too inconsiderate!”
The severe punishment Tang Geyun had been expecting never came.
Disappointed, she shot Tang Yiling a fierce glare.
“I’m going back to my room.”
Tang Yiling pressed her lips together, doing her utmost to restrain her emotions.
She crouched down and picked up her phone.
Everything that had happened since yesterday was far too bizarre.
She wondered whether she had missed her parents so badly that the plot’s characters had taken on the appearance she had longed to see.
Tang Yiling had no idea where her bedroom was, so she could only mechanically follow Tang Geyun upstairs.
Unexpectedly, when they passed the turn in the staircase, Tang Geyun suddenly spun around.
Tang Yiling did not know what was wrong.
“Is-Is something the matter?”
Tang Geyun said nothing.
Hatred filled her eyes, accumulating until it nearly overflowed, and then she suddenly shoved Tang Yiling.
Tang Yiling had already been on guard. She grabbed the banister almost immediately and twisted sideways.
Tang Geyun lost her balance and tumbled straight down the stairs.
Her anguished screams echoed throughout the enormous villa.
He Wenwei and Tang Fan rushed over from downstairs.
“How did you fall? Where are you hurt?”
Tang Yiling watched the anxiety on their faces and found the sight painfully glaring.
Tears surged into her eyes. She struggled to hold them back until she could barely breathe.
She remembered the plot from the novel.
Originally, Tang Geyun was supposed to push her down the stairs.
When Tang Yiling explained the truth, her adoptive parents decided she was falsely accusing their biological daughter and forced her to live at school.
The process had changed slightly, but the result would probably remain the same.
Before her tears could fall, Tang Yiling spoke.
“I didn’t touch her. Since things are like this, I’ll go live at school.”
After saying that, she ran out through the front door alone.
The three bewildered members of the Tang family remained behind, staring blankly at her retreating figure.
Tang Yiling walked through the villa district and only calmed down after a long time.
She suspected that this fictional world might have some sort of special function that caused characters to look different to each person, thereby heightening a transmigrator’s emotions and experience.
And if that were true…
This book was absolutely incredible.
Incredibly, unbelievably evil!
Tang Yiling took a deep breath.
She had not eaten a single thing since the previous night and was already starving.
With nowhere else to go, returning to school was the obvious first choice.
Fortunately, there was a subway station right outside the villa district. She searched every pocket on her body and found only five yuan.
A catastrophically bad beginning and a hellish ending.
Even for a cannon-fodder third female lead, wasn’t this character a little too miserable?
Holding up her phone, which had only twenty percent battery remaining, Tang Yiling managed to find the cafeteria.
There was no money in her mobile wallet, and her meal card was empty too.
Would starving to death be more dignified than jumping off a building?
Tang Yiling sat on a cafeteria chair and prepared to look for a student who appeared kind enough to buy her a meal.
Fifteen minutes later, such a person appeared.
Li Lan entered the cafeteria with a backpack slung over one shoulder.
She had changed into a loose black tracksuit, and her hair was tied into a simple ponytail.
It was clearly an ordinary outfit, but her outstanding height and appearance still made her especially conspicuous among the crowd.
Li Lan was one of the very few people Tang Yiling knew in this world.
Besides, the two of them had technically endured hardship together.
Li Lan walked toward one of the food counters.
Tang Yiling immediately stood and ran over to her.
Li Lan’s meal card had money on it!
Quite a lot, too!
The moment Tang Yiling saw the remaining balance, her eyes nearly began to shine.
She reached out and grabbed Li Lan’s arm.
“Li Lan!”
Li Lan turned around.
Under Li Lan’s cold and faintly disgusted gaze, Tang Yiling made her voice as soft, sweet, and pitiful as possible.
“Sister, could you buy me a meal?”
“Please.”
