The Unhinged O Has Designs On Me - Chapter 9
Offering one’s face for no reason was either asking for a kiss or asking to be slapped.
Shen Jingmian could not possibly be the first, and Yue Xing did not want to become the second.
After struggling for a moment, Yue Xing still circled to the side of Shen Jingmian’s thigh, bent down, and offered her face over.
Black hair, black eyes, fair skin, and beautiful features. Her peach-blossom eyes lowered slightly, making her look like a soft, easily bullied, lovestruck person. The beauty mark beneath her eye added a few more traces of credibility.
Anyone who saw Yue Xing’s appearance would never dare believe she had grown up in the slums since childhood, rather than being placed in a display window and carefully cherished.
Shen Jingmian allowed herself to look her over carefully out of selfishness.
That scorching gaze swept past Yue Xing’s brows, eyes, and the tip of her nose. Yue Xing’s senses were sharp, and every bit of that stare was like being scorched by fire, the trace sinking so deep it burned into her bones.
Now that she was being watched like this for so long, her lowered hands unconsciously clenched tight.
Shen Jingmian’s gaze was deep and unreadable. The agitation of not being able to figure out what she was thinking made Yue Xing use almost all her strength just to barely resist the urge to flee.
Her fingertips were suddenly grabbed.
Yue Xing’s shoulders tightened. Her sense of danger flared, and she instantly tried to pull back.
But she actually could not pull free?!
Yue Xing’s eyes froze slightly, and she looked at her unmoving wrist. “You?!”
Shen Jingmian held her fingertips, taking in the surprise on her face.
“Be quiet.”
Yue Xing realized she could not reclaim control of her wrist. And since Shen Jingmian had spoken, she could only watch as Shen Jingmian held her hand… and lightly pressed it against the side of her cheek.
Soft. Shen Jingmian’s face was unexpectedly soft.
But as Yue Xing felt that soft smoothness beneath her fingertips, the confusion in her eyes grew even stronger.
There was an intimate distance between people. Although she was a beta, she also knew that omegas paid attention to physical distance in daily life.
Especially when Shen Jingmian had discovered her killing intent last time. Why was she now giving Yue Xing such a dangerous opportunity?
At this distance, Yue Xing was already close enough to make a move. It was just that the chance of success was extremely low.
Shen Jingmian’s eyes blinked slowly. The dazed disbelief in Yue Xing’s eyes was fully taken in.
She guided Yue Xing’s fingertips along her cheek. An almost imperceptible mint fragrance drifted past Shen Jingmian’s nose.
Shen Jingmian’s mood improved a little. She lifted her eyelids, gaining a little more patience to teach her.
“Yue Xing, this is what concern is.”
Yue Xing met those gloomy gray eyes and felt as though something had struck her. Her heart went numb in a sudden burst.
What exactly did Shen Jingmian want to do?
For no clear reason, she had someone bring Yue Xing here. For no clear reason, she made Yue Xing come closer. And now, she had suddenly grabbed Yue Xing’s hand and was saying these words in a lecturing tone…
Yue Xing truly could not see through her thoughts at all.
Shen Jingmian held her fingertips. Her strength was neither too light nor too heavy, but Yue Xing simply could not pull free.
“Are you finding my attitude strange?”
Shen Jingmian had completely taken control of the rhythm and direction of their conversation.
Yue Xing sensed it, but she still could not suppress the curiosity in her heart.
She wanted to know why Shen Jingmian’s attitude had changed so drastically.
“Because I want you to become one of my people.”
Yue Xing froze in place.
Shen Jingmian toyed with her fingers, admiring and fiddling with them one by one. In a daze, Yue Xing seemed to become piano keys beneath her hands, left entirely at her mercy.
Shen Jingmian did not need to raise her head to guess what expression was on Yue Xing’s face right now.
“Very surprised? You don’t understand?”
Yue Xing truly did feel as if her brain had been struck hard by someone. She was so dizzy she could not sort out what to say.
Her and Shen Jingmian’s thoughts were like two trains rushing toward each other at high speed. Just as it looked like they were about to connect properly, Shen Jingmian unreasonably slammed into her.
Shen Jingmian was always doing things that surprised her.
Yue Xing really could not understand what part of her had attracted Shen Jingmian.
“On the starship…”
Shen Jingmian had clearly already discovered her killing intent.
Putting a dangerous person who could explode at any time by her side—Yue Xing thought Shen Jingmian really was insane.
“Indeed, you have your little schemes.”
Shen Jingmian lifted her eyes, her tone casual and dismissive. “But I don’t care.”
Yue Xing’s throat moved slightly.
Shen Jingmian’s face was cold. When she said this, her tone did not have the slightest ripple. Every movement she made revealed a confidence that came from her very bones.
She did not care because she was certain Yue Xing could not hurt her.
She was very confident, and Yue Xing believed she had the capital to be arrogant.
Yue Xing sank into thought.
Shen Jingmian had handed her a choice.
If she agreed, then regardless of whether Shen Jingmian’s words were true or false, she would have a chance to get close to her.
If she did not agree, then judging by Shen Jingmian’s temperament, Shen Jingmian would probably remember it in secret, and Yue Xing might die violently at some unknown moment.
Shen Jingmian had considerable patience and gave Yue Xing plenty of time to think.
It was rare for her to be interested, so from childhood onward, Shen Jingmian had always had a little more patience for things that could catch her interest.
Yue Xing lifted her eyes and asked, “May I know what Senior chose me for?”
Shen Jingmian clasped her hands in front of herself, her posture noble. Hearing this, she did not begrudge an answer.
“You’re pleasing to the eye. Bold enough, and ambitious too.”
Yue Xing understood.
The reason Shen Jingmian had taken a liking to her was precisely because Yue Xing wanted to kill her.
She did not care why Yue Xing wanted to kill her. Because she thought Yue Xing had potential, she recruited her. She did not even disdain to dress it up with lies, laying everything out in front of Yue Xing plainly and openly.
Really… far too arrogant.
“So, your answer is?”
Shen Jingmian narrowed her eyes. The camellia fragrance in the air quietly grew stronger.
The two were extremely close. After Yue Xing bent down at Shen Jingmian’s command, her face had remained suspended within easy reach of Shen Jingmian’s hand.
And now, her long, thick lashes lowered. Shen Jingmian could not see the thoughts in her eyes, and her expression became unclear.
Those obedient, gentle brows and eyes lowered. Just looking at her, her features were simply as soothing as could be, tender in every sense.
But the answer that had still not been given after so long had already begun to reveal its edge.
Shen Jingmian faced that smiling fake face, her brows and eyes sinking faintly. Yue Xing’s answer had already told her everything.
“Thank you for thinking so highly of me, Senior.”
Yue Xing was full of apology. “But I think Senior will find someone better than me.”
Shen Jingmian stared at her silently.
Yue Xing’s smile did not diminish, as if she could not feel the almost solidified air around them.
Their eyes met. Shen Jingmian’s gaze was too deep and obscure, the pressure around her reaching an extreme. Yue Xing kept smiling, letting that cold, sharp gaze grind inch by inch over her face.
The room was silent for a long time.
Shen Jingmian said heavily, “I’ll give you one more chance to change your answer.”
She no longer suppressed her aura. This time, Yue Xing clearly sensed it—Shen Jingmian was angry.
Her eyes were obscure, her gaze resting on Yue Xing’s face. No one knew what she was thinking, and Yue Xing actually saw a few traces of turbulence in them.
“Yue Xing, I won’t give you a third chance.”
When Shen Jingmian said this, her voice was especially low.
The warning in her words almost overflowed.
If it were anyone else, Yue Xing would naturally show weakness. But this was Shen Jingmian.
Yue Xing had never thought she had any chance with Shen Jingmian.
Becoming one of Shen Jingmian’s people also meant—
If Shen Jingmian wanted her to die, she would have to die. Perhaps she would even have to die for Shen Jingmian.
Yue Xing never handed her life over to someone else.
She straightened her waist, stared at Shen Jingmian, and slowly stepped back a few paces. With smiling eyes, she bowed lightly.
“I wish Senior a swift recovery.”
Shen Jingmian watched her retreat step by step, her pace without the slightest hesitation.
Yue Xing’s answer had already told her—she was unwilling.
That tall, beautiful figure walked away neither hurriedly nor slowly, yet just as she reached the doorway, she stopped.
Yue Xing looked back. Shen Jingmian glanced over lightly.
“The camellia fragrance in Senior’s home,” Yue Xing said, sniffing lightly before praising it, “smells very nice.”
It was a very elegant fragrance. Even though it was too strong at this moment, it still made Yue Xing feel rather comfortable, as if her whole body were soaking in a sea of camellias.
Just smelling it lightly, Yue Xing felt as though even the injuries on her arms did not hurt as much.
Shen Jingmian said nothing.
Yue Xing also said goodbye and quietly left.
The door closed. The aura belonging to another person slowly vanished with the flow of air, a mint scent mixed with the smell of medicine hidden within it.
Shen Jingmian sat where she was, eyes half lowered, her thin lips unconsciously pressed into a line.
After who knew how long of heavy silence, Shen Jingmian’s cold order sounded.
“Starting today, send someone to follow Yue Xing.”
After pausing for a few seconds, her words sounded again.
“You follow her personally.”
Shen Jingmian’s eyelids lowered, coldness spreading through her eyes. It was the anger that came after being defied.
Yue Xing had actually disappointed her.
