Transmigrated as the Villain’s Sword - Chapter 61
The world fell into a deathly silence, and the air seemed to solidify.
Jinjin’s eyes went wide, and in an instant, he turned into a streak of light and vanished into the air.
Ling Chenyan drew in a sharp breath. Looking at the oblivious Wenxin, she shot him a look that said you’re on your own, before quickly grabbing Chen Juan and ducking to the side.
Wenxin finally realized something was wrong. He looked at the silent woman across from him, thought for a moment, and took a step forward. “Actually, everyone here is an adul—OW!”
BOOM!
With a massive sound, Wenxin disappeared from the ground at a speed invisible to the naked eye. Immediately after, Guan Luowei’s figure vanished as well.
Ling Chenyan and Chen Juan stood to the side. Ling Chenyan squinted up at the sky, watching Wenxin being one-sidedly brutalized. She let out a “hiss,” thinking she had been exactly right.
Guan Luowei had actually read that erotica. It was truly unbelievable—but why did she look at it? Did she want to learn something?
Ling Chenyan’s face turned bright red as she imagined some unspeakable scenes. After a moment, she gave a light cough to snap herself out of her reverie. Noticing that Chen Juan beside her didn’t look shocked at all, she asked curiously, “How are you so calm?”
Chen Juan reached out and stroked an imaginary beard, her face looking mysterious and profound. “The secrets of heaven cannot be revealed.”
Nonsense. Of course she knew; she was the one who personally picked that book for Guan Luowei.
Ling Chenyan shot her a glance, and Chen Juan gave her a suggestive look, saying, “This is good. That way, when the time comes, you can… ahem ahem ahem…”
Ling Chenyan: “…I’m the one on top!”
Chen Juan nodded dismissively, her expression clearly saying she didn’t believe a word of it.
Ling Chenyan: “…”
By now, the battle between Wenxin and Guan Luowei was nearing its end. During the fight, Wenxin almost used his ultimate life-saving move, but he still couldn’t stop the current Guan Luowei. She seemed dead set on beating him to death.
When Wenxin was kicked away once more, he looked toward Ling Chenyan with eyes full of desperate help, shouting loudly, “Stop! Stop hitting me! If you keep going, I won’t be able to control the people down there!”
Guan Luowei paused, turned, and kicked him into the ground. She then stole a glance toward Ling Chenyan and, in the blink of an eye, vanished.
Watching the woman disappear, Ling Chenyan sighed inwardly. She wondered how long Guan Luowei would avoid her this time. Thinking of this, she walked to the edge of the crater, waved away the smoke and dust, and looked down at the battered Wenxin lying at the bottom. “Still alive?”
Wenxin felt like every inch of him was in pain. In all his millions of years, aside from his time in slumber, when had he ever been beaten so pathetically? If only his power were complete!
Wenxin sat up abruptly, his face black and blue. “I don’t believe I can’t beat her! Come back and let’s go another three hundred rounds!”
Ling Chenyan: “…Enough. Are those semi-human creatures still savable?”
Wenxin grumbled and cursed, then shimmered back into his original image. “No hope. They were greedy and stupid and couldn’t resist temptation—who else is there to blame? It’s a mercy I didn’t slaughter them directly.”
Wenxin was in an extremely foul mood, and his words were completely merciless.
Ling Chenyan frowned, turned to Chen Juan, and asked, “Chen Juan, what’s the situation in town now? How many people were affected by the festival tragedy?”
Chen Juan shook her head and was about to speak when a servant-looking man rushed over frantically, snot and tears streaming down his face. “Miss! Miss, it’s bad! Master… Master isn’t going to make it!”
“What?!”
After the group rushed back, they found the Chen estate in total shambles. Roof tiles were shattered, walls had collapsed, and the servants were silent, with the faint sound of weeping echoing from inside.
Chen Juan hurried into the room and saw a man covered in blood lying on the bed, his life fading as if he might pass away at any second. She rushed to support him, her voice trembling. “Call a doctor! Call a doctor! Why is everyone just standing there?”
A servant replied, “The doctor said… he can’t treat Master’s injuries.”
Indeed, how could a normal doctor treat a cultivator’s wounds? Chen Juan looked at the pitch-black patch on the man’s abdomen and the blood that wouldn’t stop flowing. She bit her lip hard. “Dad, just hang on for a bit. I’ll go find someone to save you.”
The first person Chen Juan thought of was Guan Luowei. Among all these people, Guan Luowei had the highest cultivation. She had to be able to fix this!
While Chen Juan was panicking, Ling Chenyan stepped forward and pulled out several bottles of pills. “Feed him these. This is for stopping blood, this is for healing…”
Chen Juan hurriedly poured out the pills and shoved them into Master Chen’s mouth. Master Chen raised a hand to stop her. “Juan’er… don’t waste them. Your father is finished.”
“Dad!” Chen Juan’s tears flooded out as she pushed the pills to his lips. “No, these are from Miss Ling, they must be able to heal you! You…”
“Juan’er.” A streak of blood spilled from the corner of Chen De’s mouth. His clouded eyes stared at her with deep affection. “Dad doesn’t have much time left. Just… let me say a few words, okay?”
Chen Juan sobbed and buried her head in her father’s shoulder, her voice desolate. “Dad, tell me.”
Ling Chenyan felt terrible and pulled out even more pills to try to stabilize his life force. However, she noticed that the “dying” Chen De—taking advantage of Chen Juan’s head being on his shoulder—was frantically winking at Ling Chenyan.
Ling Chenyan’s pupils vibrated. She watched blankly as Chen Juan lifted her head, and Chen De immediately reverted to his “death’s door” expression.
Ling Chenyan: “…”
She rubbed her forehead helplessly. It was no wonder Chen Juan had such a personality; truly, like father like daughter. Ling Chenyan shut her mouth and became a silent observer.
Meanwhile, after a long period of silence and crashing, the System finally recovered. Its first words were: [Host, you were right after all.]
Ling Chenyan: [To be honest, I was just talking nonsense.]
After another silence, the System suddenly asked: [Host, are you ready?]
Ling Chenyan: [Ready for what?]
[To save the world.]
Ling Chenyan: […Let’s just let it be destroyed instead.]
System: [Don’t run away, Host. This is your responsibility.]
[Wait, there are so many people in the world. Why is saving it my responsibility?]
[Because both the Heart-Seeking Mirror and the Deceptive God Zither want to recognize you as master. Divine Artifacts only reside in the hands of saviors. If the Zither only meant you were a key player, Wenxin wanting to bond with you proves you are the Chosen One.]
[…I’m going to have Guan Luowei kick Wenxin back to where he came from right now.]
The System sighed. [Host, this is your mission.]
[Stop. I never said I wanted to be a savior. My task is to eliminate the villain, but the Big Villain has already been reformed by my love. Don’t look for me for anything else. I don’t have the ability to save that many people.]
The System went silent again, then asked: [Host, do you really not want to save them? Then why, when you saw those semi-human creatures, was your first thought how to save them rather than how to kill them? Is saving the world so bad? You would get everyone’s support and love.]
[Saving the world is too tiring. I just want to lie flat,] Ling Chenyan said. [I’m just a common spiritual sword. I can’t save the world.]
The System sighed and stopped talking. Ling Chenyan didn’t speak either, continuing to watch the “grand drama” before her.
Chen Juan was weeping as she agreed to every single request Chen De made. She didn’t miss a single one. It wasn’t until her head was a bit dizzy from crying and her mouth was a bit dry that she realized something was off. She looked down at Chen De, who was still looking like he was about to pass away.
She looked at his abdomen, where blood was still flowing, sniffled, and said through her tears, “Dad… why are you still alive?”
Chen De: “…” Calculation-wise, it seems I should be dead by now.
His head lolled to the side as if falling over. In his “final moments,” he grabbed Chen Juan’s hand. “Juan’er… can you do what you promised your father?”
“Dad!” Chen Juan gripped his hand back so hard Chen De almost broke character. He endured it and asked again.
However, Chen Juan increased her strength further, squeezing his hand. “DAD!!” Her voice was shrill with grief.
Chen De: “…” Just say yes already!
Just as he was about to ask one last time, he saw Chen Juan wipe away her tears with her finger. A cold smile suddenly hooked her lips. She let go of his hand and snapped, “Keep acting. See how long you can keep it up!”
Chen De: “…”
Finding himself exposed, he instinctively wanted to explain, but Chen Juan turned to leave. In a panic, he sat up and grabbed her sleeve. “Let me explain!”
Chen Juan: “…Oh? A corpse has risen?”
Chen De: “…”
“Juan’er,” Chen De sighed deeply. “Do you know how many people died in our town this time? There were 259 who turned evil, 450 who were murdered by them, and including the semi-human ones, nearly a thousand people died. This time, I was surrounded by fifty evil creatures. Although I didn’t die, I was indeed wounded.”
Chen De’s face turned solemn. “If it weren’t for Miss Ling and Miss Guan, our town would have been wiped out. The world is going to fall into chaos. I can’t protect you forever; I have to motivate you to prepare your own path.”
Chen Juan fell silent. After a moment, she said, “Dad, don’t worry. I will protect you.”
Chen De smiled and shook his head, then looked at Ling Chenyan. “Miss Ling, I know your background is extraordinary. I have a request: in the future, if possible, could you look after my daughter?”
Chen Juan frowned. “Dad, what are you saying? You’re fine, why would you—” She stopped suddenly, looking up at him. “Dad, you…”
“I’m dying, but not just yet,” Chen De smiled. “Being besieged by fifty evil things… it’s a miracle I didn’t die on the spot. But that evil energy has already invaded my Nascent Soul. I won’t survive.”
“Dad!” Chen Juan cried. “There must be a cure!” She looked at Ling Chenyan and was about to kneel. Ling Chenyan jumped back instantly. “Don’t do that! I’ll find a way to save him even if you don’t ask.”
She helped her up and added, “But for this… we might need to find my Highness…”
Chen Juan paused as Ling Chenyan pulled out her communicator and dialed. A moment later, a “call rejected” message came back.
Ling Chenyan/Chen Juan: “…”
After several attempts, the two gave up and started organizing a search party in the town. As they headed out, Chen Juan ran into Wenxin and gave him a fierce glare.
Wenxin was left bewildered, scratching his head and wondering how he had offended anyone this time.
