Transmigrated as the Villain’s Sword - Chapter 72
By the time the two had bathed and returned to bed, it was already well into the second half of the night.
Ling Chenyan was panting and exhausted—even the walk to the bathroom had required Guan Luowei to carry her. Once she was back under the covers, however, she felt a bit more awake. Watching Guan Luowei’s silhouette as she went to wash up, Ling Chenyan called out to the System in her mind.
[Sys, are you there?]
System (sounding faint): [I’ve been in the “small black room” (censored mode) this whole time. So, what exactly did you two just do?]
Ling Chenyan coughed, her face turning crimson as she quickly changed the subject. [I meant, were you there earlier at the Lingxiao Immortal Sect?]
[I’ve always been here.]
Ling Chenyan: [Then why didn’t you answer when I called you?]
[When?]
Ling Chenyan thought back. [When that Ancestor of the Lingxiao Sect appeared.]
The System went silent for a moment before asking slowly, [What Ancestor?]
Ling Chenyan finally realized something was wrong. If the System had truly been there, how could it not know about the Ancestor? This situation reminded her of those times in the “white space”—back then, the System also had no idea what had happened to her.
So, was the voice she heard in that white space actually the Ancestor’s? But why would the Ancestor save her? And what was with that bizarre attitude today?
Ling Chenyan flicked her eyelids and said, [Never mind. Sys, what do we do about the heroine? She’s still with me.]
Speaking of the “egg,” both Ling Chenyan and the System found it tricky. On one hand, this egg was the world’s designated heroine; if an accident caused her harm, the entire world might collapse. On the other hand, there was a 50% chance this egg was the world’s ultimate villain—the very target Ling Chenyan was supposed to kill.
The System pondered for three seconds. […I’ll go ask the Main System. Wait for me.]
Ling Chenyan was about to tell it not to bother, but in a flash, the System was gone. She had never seen a System so impatient; it lacked her mature composure entirely.
The “mature and composed” Ling Chenyan thought for a moment and decided to ask Guan Luowei for a solution once she returned.
Soon, the woman returned, carrying a faint scent of water vapor. Upon entering, Guan Luowei saw the girl lying in the quilt, her bright eyes staring at the foot of the bed as if deep in thought. When the girl saw her, her eyes lit up, but she quickly pressed down the corners of her mouth. “You’re back.”
The girl was thin-skinned. After the way Guan Luowei had treated her earlier, the fact that she was even speaking to her exceeded Guan Luowei’s expectations. She didn’t mind the attitude and simply raised an eyebrow. “Why aren’t you asleep yet?”
Ling Chenyan wore a solemn expression. “I have something important to tell you.”
“Oh?” Guan Luowei walked to the bed, lifted the quilt, and slid in, bringing the fragrance of her bath with her. She wrapped her left arm around the girl’s waist, pulling her into an embrace and whispering against her ear, “What is it?”
Ling Chenyan: “!”
She jerked her head away from Guan Luowei and said loudly, “Stop! That’s going to cost extra!”
Guan Luowei: “…?”
Ling Chenyan coughed and tried to sit up, but Guan Luowei’s arm tightened, silently stopping her. Seeing she couldn’t move, Ling Chenyan gave up and leaned lazily into the woman’s embrace. “I’m thinking about what to do with that egg.”
“Egg?” Guan Luowei smoothed back a stray hair near the girl’s ear, her fingertips gently massaging her scalp. “What egg?”
“I forgot to tell you.” Ling Chenyan enjoyed the massage, the cool fragrance calming her heart. “The egg I found at the Lingxiao Immortal Sect.”
She waved her hand, releasing the egg from her storage space. She sat up and pointed. “This one.”
Guan Luowei had only intended a casual glance, but when she saw the egg by the bed, she paused, her expression turning serious. “The evil aura on this egg is very thick.”
Ling Chenyan nodded. “This is Lin Qingwan.”
Guan Luowei: “Who?”
Ling Chenyan: “Lin Qingwan. Mu Yunze’s sister.”
Guan Luowei looked shocked, though she quickly masked it. She recalled her past life—during the time she was close to Mu Yunze, Lin Qingwan had occasionally emitted an aura similar to the “Demon Race.” Back then, Guan Luowei’s cultivation wasn’t high enough to be certain, and the signs were always explained away.
Now, remembering the day the Demon Race was wiped out in her previous life, Tong Di—who had stayed to help her retreat—told her there was a rebellion that caused internal chaos. Could that “rebellion” have been caused by evil entities infiltrating the clan?
Guan Luowei’s face darkened. If that were true, the Demon Realm needed a thorough investigation.
Seeing her gravity, Ling Chenyan stayed quiet and began her own thinking. Suddenly, a key question hit her: Wait, where is Mu Yunze? Logically, with the Lingxiao Sect in shambles, shouldn’t the male lead have appeared? She wanted to ask the System, but then remembered it was gone.
She decided Mu Yunze probably couldn’t cause much trouble for now and refocused on the egg.
While the Demon Realm was stable, the outside world was in total chaos.
After the barrier of the Lingxiao Immortal Sect was shattered, the truth was exposed to all the sects’ scouts. The once-ethereal sect was now a ruin of broken walls and corpses. Bizarrely, there was no blood on the ground—only a massive eye pattern. The stench of rot after the barrier fell was unbearable.
However, the real panic came from the revelations. Only Elder Lingxu remained, and he had succumbed to evil. The reclusive ancestors who were forced out to lead the sect performed a soul-search on him. The truth nearly made them faint.
The “Evil Race” had returned to the cultivation world, and almost the entire Lingxiao Sect had been compromised. These white-haired ancestors, who had spent their lives guarding the sect’s reputation, saw thousands of years of honor destroyed in an instant—right in front of their Founder.
They immediately called a Grand Assembly of the cultivation world. When the other Sect Masters investigated their own disciples, they found to their horror that many had also swallowed “Evil Seeds.” Those affected became irritable, violent, and lost control of their aura under stress.
As the investigation went deeper, they found that small towns and minor sects on the fringes of the cultivation world had already become nests for the Evil Race. Faced with an invasion, the cultivators finally achieved a rare unity, even inviting the previously shunned Demon and Demon-Beast races to join the fight.
While the Old Demon Emperor handled those arrangements, Ling Chenyan and Guan Luowei were busy with the egg. After a night of discussion, they agreed: this egg could not be allowed to live.
They took the egg to the Old Demon Emperor. His eyes narrowed, and his hands trembled as he looked at them. “You… you already have a child?”
The two serious women: “…”
Pfft. A light laugh came from the doorway. Wenxin strolled into the hall. “How could a sword spirit and a demon produce an egg?” He had stayed as a guest since the day before. He walked closer, staring at the throbbing egg. “Besides, which of them would give birth?”
The Old Emperor said naturally, “Yinye, of course.”
Ling Chenyan: “?” Why her and not Guan Luowei?!
Guan Luowei, seeing Ling Chenyan looking ready to argue with both of them, rubbed her forehead. “Majesty, how should we deal with this egg?”
The Old Emperor cleared his throat, returning to the matter at hand. “If this thing was left by the Evil Race, it must be destroyed. Especially if Yinye says it’s their King.”
Ling Chenyan: “A guess! It’s just a guess.”
Guan Luowei glanced at her. “The guess is not without reason.”
The Old Emperor stroked his beard. “Then why wait? Take it to the square and chop it in half.”
Ling Chenyan: “…Tried that. Can’t cut it.”
The Old Emperor looked surprised. “Weiwei can’t cut it either?”
Guan Luowei shook her head. “I tried many methods before coming here. None worked.”
If even she couldn’t scratch it, most others probably couldn’t either. The Old Emperor’s eyes darted. “Let everyone in the clan try. One strike each. Someone is bound to succeed. Even if no one can, after a thousand strikes, it might just break.”
A crowd gathered in the central square. Curiosity was high as the Old Emperor and the Princess stood on the platform with the red egg.
“Silence!” the Old Emperor barked. “Today, I announce a task. Everyone will come up and use their strongest move. Whoever breaks this egg will be heavily rewarded.”
The crowd erupted. Ling Tian flicked his bangs. “Bringing the whole clan for one egg? Psh, I can break it alone.”
Tong Di mocked him, “Simple-minded brute. You think it’s that easy?”
Ling Tian gripped his blade, veins popping on his forehead. “I’ve put up with your big mouth for too long. Dare to bet with me?”
“Betting with you lowers my standards,” Tong Di retorted.
As they were about to brawl, Zong Xian prepared to tell them to shut up, but a voice beat her to it—louder and more furious: “ALL OF YOU, SHUT UP!”
Zong Xian froze and looked at the speaker in shock. It was Shaoyou. Even Tong Di and Ling Tian thought they had misheard. Shaoyou was known for the best temper; he never even raised his voice. He was always the gentle, kind one. Under his roar, the two actually fell silent.
A flash of crimson quickly faded from the blue-haired youth’s eyes as his clarity returned. He rubbed his temples and offered an apologetic look. “Sorry. I didn’t sleep well last night, and my head hurts.”
“It’s fine, it’s fine…” Ling Tian stared at him as if he’d seen a ghost. “Maybe you should go rest. I’ll tell the Emperor for you.”
Shaoyou gave a pale smile. “Thank you.” He turned and left the square.
Ling Tian was the first to try. He charged his blade, his aura becoming sharp and dangerous. He swung with the force to split mountains—CLANG!
The egg didn’t move.
“Ahem… I’m going to be serious now,” Ling Tian muttered. He struck a dozen more times until he was panting. “Impossible! I can’t even break an egg!”
Tong Di was next. He mocked Ling Tian as he walked up, but a moment later, he also returned unsuccessful.
As the hours passed, half the clan had tried. No one could even scratch it. The Old Emperor went from excited to sighing in disappointment. He sent most of the clan home, leaving only a few.
Ling Tian, clutching his stomach, mumbled, “I’m hungry. Why don’t we just boil the egg? Maybe once it’s cooked, the shell will soften.”
The room went quiet. Ling Chenyan looked at him. “Young man, you have a future.”
Ling Tian beamed. “Naturally!”
A massive pot was brought out. They filled it with water, put the egg inside, and started a roaring fire.
“Highness, do you think it’ll cook?” Ling Chenyan asked.
Guan Luowei: “…” To be honest, I’ve never seen anyone try to boil an Evil Race egg before.
Wenxin laughed. “If it actually cooks, this Evil King will go down as the most pathetic death in their history.”
After half an hour, Ling Chenyan stared at the water, which was turning deep red. “What is that red stuff?”
Ling Tian reached out to taste it, but Tong Di slapped his hand away. “Are you crazy? You know what’s in there and you want to taste it?”
Wenxin, being a divine artifact, sensed the energy. “That’s blood. Human blood.”
Ling Chenyan had a realization. “Highness, could this be the blood the egg absorbed from the Lingxiao disciples?”
“Likely,” Guan Luowei agreed. For some reason, the egg was “vomiting” its nourishment. This meant its development was being hindered.
“Add more wood! Change the water!” the Old Emperor ordered.
But after an hour in the second pot, the water didn’t change color. Instead, the egg’s throbbing grew faster and more visible. Ling Chenyan’s eyelid twitched. “Stop! I have a bad feeling. If we keep boiling it, it might hatch early!”
“What?!”
Wenxin frowned. “I feel it too. The evil aura is twice as strong as when we started.”
Guan Luowei fished the egg out immediately. The red patterns had faded significantly. Boiling it had actually acted as an incubator.
The Old Emperor sighed. “Perhaps we should consult with the other Sect Masters?”
Guan Luowei nodded. Since the cultivators wanted an alliance, they should contribute ideas. Just as everyone was agreeing, Ling Chenyan clapped her hands. “I’ve got it!”
“Huh?” Everyone turned to her.
Ling Chenyan looked at Wenxin. “Quick, turn into your original form.”
“?”
“Do it!” she urged.
Guan Luowei understood. The Ancient God-Demon Heaven Sword was the natural bane of the Evil Race. Even a fragment like Wenxin carried that property.
Wenxin transformed back into the sword form but asked, “I have the property, but do you know how to use it?”
Ling Chenyan’s eyes sparkled with confidence. She grabbed the “mirror” (Wenxin’s hilt/fragment form) and, under everyone’s shocked gazes, smashed it ruthlessly down onto the egg.
Author’s Note:
Ling Chenyan: I choose the most primitive method.
Wenxin: Did anyone ask MY opinion?!
Egg: …I’ve been bullied so many times, did I say anything?
