Transmigrating as the Villainess Trying to Seduce the Female Lead, Besides Being Slept With, What Else Can Happen? ABO - Chapter 39
Suddenly opening her eyes, Wen Shangxuan gasped for breath, her breaths rapid and panicked.
The caregiver by the bedside reacted quickly, immediately calling for the nurse who had just finished her rounds and left the room to return.
After Wen Shangxuan woke up, she was taken for a full set of examinations and also underwent a preliminary psychiatric evaluation. The attending physician explained to her while holding the reports, “The reports will take another two days. A rather unusual finding is that the patient is experiencing amnesia. Because Miss Wen has just woken up, whether the amnesia is temporary or permanent will require several more days of observation.”
Lin Ji sat silently in her wheelchair. She had been doing rehabilitation exercises when her assistant came to tell her that Wen Shangxuan had woken up. She immediately ended her rehabilitation session and came over, never expecting to hear such dramatic news.
Seeing her stunned expression, the doctor offered a few comforting words as was their custom, “There’s no need to worry too much. You and Miss Wen are engaged partners. Perhaps more contact with you will help the patient recover.”
“I understand,” Lin Ji replied, her emotions unreadable, her tone indifferent. “Please notify me when the test results are out. Thank you.”
Perhaps it was the first time seeing a partner so calm as to be almost heartless. And since both Lin Ji and Wen Shangxuan were celebrities, even the doctor, who was familiar with all aspects of human nature, couldn’t help but take another look at Lin Ji.
The assistant, having received the notification, pushed Lin Ji out after entering the room. “Are you going back to your ward or to see Miss Wen?” The assistant pushed her for a while, but seeing no response, thought they should return to the ward first. Halfway there, Lin Ji finally spoke.
“Let’s go to Wen Shangxuan’s side.”
When they arrived, there were already other people in the ward. As soon as Lin Ji entered, Wen Shangxuan immediately looked up. Upon seeing her, she made no attempt to hide her expression of disgust. “What are you doing here?”
Everyone present was aware of their relationship. Noticing her unusual tone, they all exchanged bewildered glances.
Lin Ji, having been publicly snubbed, didn’t show any negative emotions. She looked around at the people present, recognizing them all as high-level executives from Wens Corporation, and understood the situation. She explained calmly, without mentioning anything else, “I heard you woke up, so I came to see you.”
Wen Shangxuan had conveniently forgotten her time with Lin Ji. Now, she only felt that Lin Ji seemed somewhat different from before. She no longer displayed a lovesick expression towards her, which made her feel slightly more comfortable, but she was still unwilling to give the other woman a pleasant look. “Have you finished looking? I’m in a meeting,” she said coldly, issuing an order to leave.
The people around were even more surprised, unable to understand why the boss, who before the car accident had been so clingy to Lin Ji and eager for everyone to know, was suddenly so cold towards the Omega. Various speculations arose in their minds.
Lin Ji smiled faintly. “Then I won’t disturb you any longer.” After nodding and greeting the others, she gestured for her assistant to push her away.
Only then did Wen Shangxuan notice that the other woman was also wearing a hospital gown and had entered in a wheelchair. She subconsciously wanted to speak and ask her to stay, but then forcefully suppressed the impulse. She thought to herself that she was strange, convincing herself that the other woman was none of her concern. She turned her head and continued her meeting.
Wen’s family also came after learning that Wen Shangxuan had woken up. However, they went to Lin Ji’s ward to visit her first. Over the past half month, seeing her simultaneously undergoing rehabilitation and working, yet still insisting on taking care of Wen Shangxuan every day, their prejudice against Lin Ji had long since disappeared.
Lin Ji briefly explained Wen Shangxuan’s current condition to them. When she heard that her daughter had amnesia and had forgotten Lin Ji, Wen’s mother frowned and said, “You two should have gotten married already. Now that this has happened, I think holding the wedding sooner will help Shangxuan get back on track.”
“Auntie,” Lin Ji said with a smile, shaking her head. “Shangxuan has forgotten about our engagement and only remembers disliking me from before. Forcing her to marry would not be good for either of us.”
Hearing that her daughter disliked her, Wen’s mother’s heart sank.
“The doctor said that the amnesia could be short-term, but it could also be permanent. We are still in the withdrawal phase. Perhaps we should just follow Shangxuan’s way for now and not stimulate her too much, to avoid further injury to her brain or body.”
Wen’s mother held her hand. “I used to have prejudice against you because of Shangxuan. But after meeting you, I realized you are a particularly good child. Even at this moment, you are still thinking of Shangxuan first… Don’t wrong yourself too much.”
“Where am I being wronged?” Lin Ji recalled the car accident, when the Alpha had fearlessly rushed over to hug her, protecting her in her arms while suffering severe injuries herself. “All I can do is this.”
After seeing off Wen’s mother, Lin Ji’s assistant entered the room and hesitated before asking, “Will you still be taking care of Miss Wen?”
“No, I already discussed it with Auntie Wen. They will arrange for a caregiver.”
“Then the wedding rings you prepared…” The assistant couldn’t help but feel indignant for her boss.
“Let’s put them away for now.” Lin Ji pushed her wheelchair to the window. Today’s sunset looked very much like the color she had seen in her last glance in her previous life.
“Maybe they won’t be needed. Who knows?”
