Chapter 8

“Me?” Ou Baisong hadn’t expected to get dragged into the line of fire again. “W-when did I ever…”

Everyone turned to look at him, and his face immediately flushed bright red, as embarrassed as if he’d been caught cheating on the spot. Especially when Lü Shiman looked over at him, he felt as though he were sitting on pins and needles.

“Of course I know Big Brother wouldn’t do anything,” Ou Bailing continued. “I was just giving an example. After all, Big Brother is an Alpha too. Dad is also an Alpha. If we’re going to be cautious, then we should be cautious of everyone. How can you only guard against me?”

“You! What are you saying?!” The moment Ou Jun heard her drag even him into it, he became angry again. “You bastard! Do you think I’m that kind of animal? If anything, it’s the two of you! From now on, both of you stay away from Manman!”

“No problem.” Ou Bailing shrugged. “I’m totally okay with that. I’m just afraid someone else might not be.”

As she spoke, she looked toward her older brother beside her.

The implication was so blatant that everyone’s attention immediately shifted back onto Ou Baisong.

Seeing everyone looking at him, Ou Baisong could only bite the bullet and say, “Y-you guys, don’t listen to her. She’s talking nonsense. Of course I know Manman is my younger sister…”

“As long as you know.”

Ou Bailing flashed him a lively, mischievous smile.

Seeing it, Ou Baisong wanted nothing more than to punch that infuriating face of hers.

The meal ended on an unhappy note.

Ou Bailing’s words did, however, remind Lü Yan of something. Only now did she belatedly realize that she had seen Ou Baisong looking at her daughter rather strangely before.

It was just that everyone had always focused all their attention on the troublemaking Ou Bailing and overlooked this seemingly gentle and harmless older brother.

“Manman.”

After dinner, Lü Yan secretly pulled her daughter aside and warned her, “From now on, keep some distance from your brother.”

“Mom, you also think Brother feels that way about me…”

Lü Yan stroked her head and said gently, “There’s one thing your Sister said that wasn’t wrong. You need to be cautious around all Alphas. Do you carry your suppressants with you? And your suppressant patches?”

“I do.”

“Be careful at school too.”

Fortunately, she attended an elite academy, so things weren’t quite as chaotic there.

Still, Lü Yan worried endlessly about her delicate Omega daughter, terrified that someday someone would take advantage of her.

“I know, Mom,” Lü Shiman told her. “I’ll take good care of myself. Don’t worry.”

As they spoke, she turned and saw Ou Bailing going over to the refrigerator to get something.

Lü Shiman’s attention was immediately drawn toward her.

She glanced at Ou Bailing, then quickly looked away again.

Thinking about the complicated relationships in this family, she could only temporarily suppress those feelings that could never see the light of day.

Ou Bailing took a bottle of ice water from the fridge and drank from it.

When she turned around, she saw the mother and daughter whispering about something, but she wasn’t interested.

Taking her water with her, she headed upstairs again.

Aiya, this life of eating and sleeping, then sleeping and eating, was so boring.

It wasn’t like the real world, where she could at least play games…

Huh?

Did this world not have games?

Ou Bailing thumped her way upstairs, sat down at her computer, turned it on, and started playing games.

She played until deep into the night before finally getting sleepy.

Then she climbed into bed and slept.

The next day, she got up for school again.

“Haaaah~~~”

Ou Bailing yawned as she came downstairs for breakfast.

Halfway through eating, she suddenly remembered—

She didn’t have class today.

“Host, you need to go to school today to advance the plot~”

The little bee appeared in front of her and informed her.

“I still have to follow the plot?” Ou Bailing stared at it with wide eyes. “Am I going to find Fu Mingge?”

“Yes, Host.”

The moment she heard she was going to find Fu Mingge, Ou Bailing instantly revived at full health.

She was practically Fu Mingge’s die-hard fan. If it meant getting to see her beloved goddess, she was willing to do anything.

But then she remembered that there was no money left on her card and turned toward her cheap father.

“Dad, did you transfer money to me yet? I’m going out to pick up girls later!”

Ou Jun let out a heavy snort.

Only after a while did he mutter irritably, “I transferred five million. You’re not getting any more than that. Spend it sparingly.”

“Why bother saving?” Ou Bailing shamelessly replied. “Can you take all that money into the grave with you? While we’re alive, we should enjoy ourselves while we can. Otherwise, what’s the point of coming into this world at all?”

“You only know how to spend money, not earn it,” Ou Jun couldn’t resist scolding her again. “Do you have any idea how hard adults work to make money?”

“Oh, right.”

Ou Bailing turned to look at her older brother.

“Better save some money for Big Brother’s medical treatment.”

Ou Baisong: “……”

After breakfast, Lü Shiman left the house shortly after Ou Bailing.

Because Ou Bailing had spoken so harshly to her yesterday, she was acting somewhat awkward today.

She wanted to follow her, but was afraid of getting scolded.

If she didn’t follow, she desperately wanted to know where Ou Bailing was going—and whether she really was going out to pick up girls.

While Lü Shiman hesitated, Ou Bailing had already started up a car and sped away like the wind.

“Wow~ Hahahaha!”

Ou Bailing raced along the road.

There weren’t many cars or pedestrians in the suburbs.

Possessed by the spirit of the Akina Mountain racing god, Ou Bailing even started pulling off death-defying drifts.

She drove the gleaming yellow Lamborghini so hard it practically started smoking, kicking up clouds of dust everywhere she went.

“I knew it! How could an Alpha as outstanding as me possibly not know how to drive? Hahaha!”

Just as she was feeling smug, a large truck suddenly appeared ahead, coming straight toward her.

Ou Bailing was driving too fast, and the road was somewhat narrow. There was no way she could squeeze past it normally.

Ou Bailing took one look—

and drove straight up a tree.

Then she drove back down from the tree.

Something flashed past the truck driver’s eyes.

“Huh?”

Had something just flown by?

He looked into his rearview mirror and saw a yellow sports car going the wrong way. It flickered into view for an instant, then vanished again.

His eyes widened in disbelief.

Ou Bailing drove all the way to school.

Before she even entered the campus, she spotted Fu Mingge and her friend.

She drove over, stopped beside them, rolled down the window, and waved.

“Hi, Sister! We meet again. What a coincidence!”

The moment Fu Mingge saw her face, Ou Bailing’s frivolous attitude irritated her.

Without saying a word, she continued walking forward.

“Hey, don’t go.”

Ou Bailing slowly drove alongside her.

“Fu Mingge!”

Bai Congwei caught hold of Fu Mingge and said, “Mingge, she’s calling you.”

Fu Mingge replied coolly, “Ignore her.”

Bai Congwei looked at the beautiful sports car and was somewhat tempted.

“But she’s driving a Lamborghini.”

“So what if it’s a Lamborghini?” Fu Mingge asked, genuinely puzzled.

“Don’t you think she looks really cool? So dashing and heroic.”

“No.”

Fu Mingge had absolutely no interest in this kind of Alpha—one whose head was full of flirtatious schemes and whose words and behavior were frivolous.

She turned and walked away.

“Hey!”

Ou Bailing parked the car by the roadside and quickly got out to chase after her.

“Why are you walking so fast?”

When Bai Congwei saw her, she immediately came over.

“Hello.”

“Ah, hello, hello.”

Since this was Fu Mingge’s friend and someone she had technically met before, Ou Bailing spoke a little more politely.

“Why did she leave?”

“I don’t know.”

Bai Congwei had a mature, intellectual air about her, like a caring older Sister.

“She’s been rather temperamental lately. I don’t know what’s gotten into her. Oh, right—did something happen between the two of you?”

Ou Bailing wanted to chase after Fu Mingge, but Bai Congwei had stopped her here to talk.

She was anxious inside, yet still replied aloud, “Nothing happened between us…”

She watched Fu Mingge enter the campus and gradually disappear from sight.

All she could do was sigh helplessly.

“Nothing really happened?” Bai Congwei glanced in the direction Fu Mingge had gone, then looked back at Ou Bailing. “She’s seemed strange ever since she came back from the lake that day.”

“Ever since she came back from the lake?”

Ou Bailing looked at her.

This Omega was roughly the same height as she was.

“Oh, right. You were there that day too. What’s your name? Can I call you Sister too? You seem to be one year above me—oh, then I should call you Senior instead!”

“Are you a first-year or second-year student?” Bai Congwei asked curiously.

“Yeah, I’m a second-year.”

Ou Bailing thought that since this person was Fu Mingge’s friend, building a good relationship with her definitely couldn’t hurt.

“Sister, what’s your name?”

“My name is Bai Congwei.”

As Bai Congwei spoke, she glanced at Ou Bailing’s car again and couldn’t help complimenting it.

“Is that your car? It’s beautiful.”

“Oh, yeah.”

Ou Bailing immediately turned sweet-tongued.

“Do you like it, Sister? If you’re free sometime, I can take you out for a drive.”

“Really?” Bai Congwei smiled. “Sure.”

The little bee couldn’t resist appearing and saying, “Host, why aren’t you hurrying after the female lead? Why are you wasting time talking nonsense here?”

Ou Bailing glared at it and replied through her thoughts, “What do you know? I’m feinting east to strike west—hitting the cow from across the mountain.”

“Hey, Sister,” Ou Bailing said to Bai Congwei again, “what classroom are you guys going to? Can I sit in on your class?”

“You want to sit in?” Bai Congwei looked at her in confusion. “Don’t you have your own classes?”

“My class doesn’t matter. That teacher’s lectures are boring anyway, so I might as well skip. Is your class interesting?”

“It’s all right.”

Bai Congwei headed toward the school gate, and Ou Bailing followed her.

“Are you in the same class as Senior Fu Mingge?”

“Yeah. We’re classmates.”

Perfect!

Ou Bailing thought to herself that if she followed Bai Congwei, she would definitely find Fu Mingge.

“Why don’t we exchange contact information?”

Ou Bailing pulled out her phone.

“If you ever want to go for a drive, just call me. I can even be your free chauffeur. Guaranteed service whenever you call!”

“Oh, sure.”

Bai Congwei handled it naturally and openly, and the two quickly exchanged contact information.

Ou Bailing thought that she still didn’t even have Fu Mingge’s contact information.

But she couldn’t appear too eager or goal-oriented, or she might put people off.

Better to take things slowly.

Bai Congwei brought Ou Bailing to their classroom.

The moment Fu Mingge turned around and saw that she had actually brought Ou Bailing with her, her expression immediately cooled.

“Mingge, why did you walk so fast?” Bai Congwei sat down beside her. “You didn’t even wait for me.”

Ou Bailing followed and sat down on Bai Congwei’s other side.

Fu Mingge couldn’t help asking, “Why did you bring her here?”

“She said her own classes were boring, so she wanted to see whether ours was any more interesting.”

As Bai Congwei spoke, she turned to glance at Ou Bailing.

Ou Bailing waved.

“Hi.”

Fu Mingge looked at her coolly.

Ou Bailing could only say, “I came to sit in on your class. Ours really is way too boring.”

The moment Ou Bailing saw Fu Mingge, she couldn’t tear her eyes away.

Her goddess was simply so elegant and breathtakingly beautiful.

Even when she glared at someone, she was devastatingly gorgeous.

Ou Bailing couldn’t help resting her upper body on the desk and staring at her across Bai Congwei.

The classroom was a huge lecture hall, with two or three classes attending the same lecture.

A large portion of the students didn’t know one another.

And it wasn’t as though first-, second-, and third-year students had labels stamped on their faces.

So even if someone slipped in to sit through the lecture, as long as they didn’t disrupt the class, nobody would pay much attention.

Class began.

The teacher lectured at the front while most of the students listened attentively and took notes.

Ou Bailing had nothing to do.

After staring at her goddess for ages and getting ignored the whole time, she was finally forced to listen to the lecture.

After speaking for quite a while, the teacher’s mouth grew dry.

She took a sip of water, looked up at the students, and said, “Let’s pick someone to answer a question.”

The moment Ou Bailing heard that someone was going to be picked to answer, she immediately looked over with great interest.

The teacher’s gaze swept across the room and met hers.

She immediately called on Ou Bailing.

Both Bai Congwei and Fu Mingge turned toward her.

Other people might not know, but they certainly did.

Ou Bailing wasn’t even in their class.

More precisely, she wasn’t even in their year.

Bai Congwei was just about to raise her hand and explain when Ou Bailing unexpectedly stood up.

“All right, Teacher. Then I’ll answer this question…”

Ou Bailing launched into a long explanation, and the teacher nodded repeatedly as she listened.

Bai Congwei stared at her in shock, then turned toward Fu Mingge.

Fu Mingge also looked somewhat surprised.

Ou Bailing’s answer was correct.

“All right, sit down.”

The teacher waved for her to take her seat.

“That was a good answer. Extra credit. Oh, right, what’s your name?”

The teacher walked over to the podium and pulled out the attendance list, preparing to give her a point.

At that moment, Bai Congwei couldn’t hold back anymore.

“Teacher, she isn’t in our class. She came to sit in on the lecture.”

“Oh?”

The teacher looked over curiously.

“You’re auditing the class?”

“Yes, Teacher.”

Ou Bailing’s mouth suddenly became as sweet as honey.

“I came because I’d heard so much about your lectures. Your class really is wonderful.”

Whether she meant it sincerely or not, the teacher was certainly happy to hear it.

The teacher visibly brightened.

“Not bad. You’re quite a clever student. Even just sitting in on the class, you were able to explain everything so clearly.”

After that little incident, Ou Bailing had at least made herself somewhat familiar to everyone.

Fortunately, her terrible reputation was mostly limited to students in her own year.

The upperclassmen one year above her didn’t pay much attention to her cohort and still hadn’t heard about all her glorious exploits.

“I didn’t expect you to be so smart,” Bai Congwei whispered to Ou Bailing. “You don’t even have the textbook. You just listened to the teacher explain it once and already understood?”

Ou Bailing replied with feigned modesty, “Well, intelligence is something you’re born with. There’s nothing I can do about it.”

Hearing that, Fu Mingge couldn’t help glancing at her.

Ou Bailing finally received a glance from her goddess and immediately became unbearably smug.

Under what she imagined was Fu Mingge’s admiring gaze, Ou Bailing felt immensely satisfied.

Fu Mingge had merely glanced at her casually.

Who could have imagined Ou Bailing would invent so much meaning from it?

Bai Congwei silently gave her a thumbs-up.

“Impressive.”
