What Should I Do When My Junior Sister Loves Me Too Much? - Chapter 4
At some point, the classroom abruptly fell silent.
It was as though someone had cast a silencing spell on everyone.
Zhu You instantly raised her head and looked toward the classroom’s front entrance.
A small portion of a figure was faintly visible there. Judging by the robes, it was the style commonly worn by the instructor responsible for their classes.
The Martial Uncle in charge of their classroom was rather strict.
According to the outer sect’s rules, instructors had the authority to punish disciples who violated classroom regulations.
This particular Martial Uncle was especially fond of sending people to the medicinal herb fields to remove pests and pull weeds.
Almost nobody liked that assignment.
Many of the medical cultivators in the Shuanghan Sect enjoyed researching unusual “good things,” which meant that all sorts of “surprises” could easily be encountered in the medicinal herb fields.
The atmosphere of absolute silence at this moment concealed everyone’s profound respect for the medical cultivators.
Had the instructor come to announce that Senior Sister Yu would no longer be teaching their classes?
Zhu You wondered.
She could no longer remember whether Yu Wanyu had continued teaching classes in her previous life.
Perhaps Yu Wanyu had been so aloof and dignified, so far removed from Zhu You’s world, while Zhu You herself had never been particularly interested in talismans and had devoted all her attention to the sword. As a result, those memories had gradually faded away.
Now, within her field of vision, the instructor entered the classroom, stopped at the doorway, and extended a hand in an inviting gesture.
Another figure appeared.
Zhu You’s eyes widened slightly, her gaze instantly captured entirely by the newcomer.
Senior Sister Yu.
Today, Yu Wanyu had changed into robes of a different color, though they were still in a pale shade. The fabric was predominantly white, with faint embroidery worked into it using threads of the same color.
Her skin was exceptionally fair. Dressed in white today, the faint red beauty mark between her brows appeared slightly more prominent, lending her an overwhelming aura of sanctity. She looked like an immortal descending into the mortal world, making others feel that even looking at her a moment longer would be an offense.
Although she had already become the youngest Golden Core cultivator in the cultivation world, judging by her expression alone, she remained exactly as she had been before. There was none of the smug satisfaction or soaring ambition so commonly seen in others.
Zhu You’s horizons had broadened considerably during the final period of her previous life. She could tell that Yu Wanyu’s robes were likely a defensive magical artifact, and a very high-grade one at that.
For the sake of easier trade, the cultivation world’s magical artifact industry had established four grades: Heaven, Earth, Profound, and Yellow. Beyond these were the works of supreme masters, which were rarely, if ever, sold under ordinary circumstances. Such artifacts could be classified as Immortal Grade.
Heaven Grade, perhaps?
From this alone, it was clear just how highly the sect valued Senior Sister Yu.
In Zhu You’s impression, the cultivation world at this point in time was harmonious and peaceful, at least on the surface.
Demonic and evil cultivators possessed only small pockets of influence. Whenever one appeared, the orthodox sects would work together and dispatch their disciples to eliminate them.
In this almost entirely stable environment, coupled with the absence of any single leader governing the cultivation world, competition between the various sects had inevitably begun.
Due to various practical considerations, this competition had not yet become bloody.
At present, there were five sects with the greatest reputations in the cultivation world, and not one of them was willing to be ranked beneath the others.
The Shuanghan Sect was one of them.
This was also why, immediately after Yu Wanyu’s breakthrough, an elder had directly spread the news without even waiting for her to consolidate her cultivation.
Young disciples represented fresh blood and the future, and Yu Wanyu was undoubtedly the most outstanding prospective sect successor in the cultivation world today.
Many elders of the Shuanghan Sect believed that once Yu Wanyu fully matured, the Shuanghan Sect would rise to even greater heights.
Zhu You could not help becoming even more vigilant. Just how many sinister schemes had been concealed behind Senior Sister Yu’s so-called accident?
“Everyone.” The instructor voluntarily stood one or two steps behind Yu Wanyu, unable to conceal the excitement on his face. “I trust you have all heard the news that your Senior Sister Yu has achieved a perfect Core Formation and successfully advanced to the Golden Core stage.”
The Martial Uncle’s voice rang out loudly, his face filled with pride, as though he personally shared in the glory. “Originally, Elder Zhang believed that Martial Niece Yu no longer needed to teach classes in the outer sect. However, Martial Niece Yu believes in seeing things through to the end. She will therefore continue teaching your talisman classes as usual until the end of this year.
“This is the first time a Golden Core cultivator has ever taught classes in the outer sect. You are all intelligent people, so you should understand what an extraordinary honor this is…”
Bai Xi found the scene rather amusing. The instructor was delivering an impassioned speech, while Senior Sister Yu, standing beside him, looked as though she were listening to someone recount another person’s achievements.
She rubbed her hands together. This precious Senior Sister Yu was the center of so much gossip, and Bai Xi had never expected to have several more opportunities to see her. She absolutely had to make the most of them!
Just thinking about it made her excited. To prevent herself from accidentally making a commotion, Bai Xi instinctively looked toward Zhu You.
Zhu You was sitting upright, her head raised as she watched the instructor, every inch the model student.
She’s even listening to all this pointless chatter so attentively. My sister really is something else, Bai Xi thought.
Zhu You merely felt that she should stop looking at Senior Sister Yu.
“Martial Uncle Liu.” After the sound of a bell rang out, Yu Wanyu spoke, interrupting the instructor.
He could say as much as he liked, but he could not interfere with what she was supposed to be doing.
The instructor immediately fell silent and quietly withdrew.
A mere instructor of the outer sect, despite belonging to a more senior generation, could never compare in status to a personal disciple of the inner sect.
Instructor Liu had long grown accustomed to receiving the cold shoulder from inner sect disciples. Some would not even deign to address him as Martial Uncle, believing that doing so would lower their own standing. They would only call him Instructor Liu.
Yu Wanyu was different. From beginning to end, her attitude toward everyone remained equally indifferent.
She did not become more accommodating toward those of higher status, nor did she grow more heartless toward those of lower status.
At this moment, Instructor Liu felt a peculiar sense of gratitude.
Even Martial Niece Yu still addressed him as Martial Uncle. What did those arrogant inner sect disciples who looked down on everyone else amount to, anyway?
Zhu You listened exceptionally attentively throughout this lesson.
Yu Wanyu seemed naturally gifted at doing everything well. Even when teaching a group of outer sect disciples with weak cultivation bases, she still fulfilled her duties perfectly.
When class ended, Zhu You began considering the right moment to submit her one hundred Mind-Clearing Talismans.
The instant Yu Wanyu announced the end of class, Hua Yingxue had already rushed in through the doorway and arrived at her side.
Senior Sister Hua swept her gaze across the faces of the disciples in the classroom, inexplicably causing everyone to feel a momentary pang of unease.
She quickly withdrew her gaze. “Senior Sister, let’s return to the inner sect. Martial Uncle Sect Leader is looking for you.”
Hua Yingxue had not paid Zhu You any particular attention.
That was only natural. In the eyes of these favored geniuses, outer sect disciples at the Qi Refining stage were simply too weak and insignificant to be worth mentioning.
Although Hua Yingxue had previously been furious upon learning that an outer sect disciple had hugged her senior sister, she still did not take any of these disciples seriously.
She would not even spare them an unnecessary glance.
As for their names, she certainly would not go out of her way to inquire about them.
“Mm,” Yu Wanyu acknowledged.
She then took a step forward and walked straight toward Zhu You, her gaze settling on the face that had once again gone blank with astonishment.
After waiting several breaths, Yu Wanyu parted her lips and calmly reminded her, “The Mind-Clearing Talismans.”
“Huh? Oh, right!”
Zhu You hurriedly retrieved the stack of talismans from her storage pouch and presented them with both hands, feeling somewhat apprehensive. “They’re not drawn particularly well. Please forgive me, Senior Sister Yu.”
Yu Wanyu did not reach out to accept them. Instead, the stack of talismans floated into the air of its own accord, its pages flipping with a rustling sound as though a breeze were passing through them.
Within just a few breaths—even less time than Yu Wanyu had spent waiting for Zhu You to speak—the yellow sheets covered in talisman patterns had already settled back into Zhu You’s hands.
“Acceptable.” Yu Wanyu gave a slight nod, seemingly offering a word of encouragement.
Without waiting for Zhu You’s response, she turned around and departed together with Hua Yingxue.
“The time of a genius like Senior Sister Yu is far too precious. Delaying her for even a few extra breaths makes me feel like I’m committing some terrible offense.” Bai Xi suddenly spoke. “What do you think, Zhu You?”
Zhu You put away the stack of Mind-Clearing Talismans, which she had been the only person to physically touch from beginning to end.
Her eyes curved into crescents as she simply said, “Let’s go eat.”
“You seem awfully happy.” Bai Xi muttered, “A divine maiden shows mercy, and a mortal spends the rest of her life hopelessly infatuated. I absolutely forbid that kind of cliché romance-novel plot from unfolding anywhere near me.”
Zhu You began packing up her tools. “Stop spouting nonsense. I don’t have to suffer any further punishment. Shouldn’t I be happy about that?”
“Oh, right! Let’s go!” Bai Xi broke into a smile. “We’ll head down the mountain later and treat ourselves to something delicious!”
Zhu You readily agreed.
As it happened, she also needed to buy a few things from the shops at the foot of the mountain.
Senior Sister Yu had an aloof personality, and Zhu You had no intention of deliberately approaching her to strike up a conversation. Leaving aside whether such an attempt would even succeed, approaching her without any apparent reason would be extremely dangerous. It would be disastrous if the traitor noticed anything unusual.
Now that she had submitted the Mind-Clearing Talismans assigned as her punishment, an outer sect disciple like her would no longer attract anyone’s attention. She could quietly lie low.
The few strange things she had done immediately after her rebirth would also gradually be forgotten.
For Zhu You, not being noticed was precisely what she ought to be happy about right now.
