Why Not (Lily ABO) - Chapter 32
Jiang Xu appeared at the charity auction wearing a wine-red gown. The exceptionally elegant Omega instantly caught the attention of most attendees the moment she entered the venue. Many Alphas were restless, eager to get acquainted, while others speculated about Jiang Xu’s identity.
In fact, Jiang Xu was the only individual buyer present that night without a company or an official background.
The other attendees were either company owners, heirs, celebrities, or well-known politicians. As for the invitation card Jiang Xu held, it belonged to her mother. After finishing middle school, she followed her mother abroad and completed her studies there.
This return trip was simply an excuse to enjoy a few days back in the country under the guise of the auction.
It was exactly as her mother had said: the event was meaningless. It wasn’t about appreciating the art itself. The increasingly inflated prices made Jiang Xu feel it was all about throwing money to buy a reputation.
She naturally had no intention of participating.
She didn’t raise her bidding paddle once throughout the entire event, boredly waiting for the auction of the last item to conclude. Her college senior had returned to the country after graduation and, hearing Jiang Xu was coming back to visit, specially rented a small bar to welcome her.
She even meticulously selected a few excellent Alphas.
Jiang Xu was not a conservative person. When she met someone she liked, she dated them; if she stopped liking them, she broke up. When single and in need, she would find a suitable person to spend a night with.
As she grew older, Jiang Xu became increasingly uninterested in forming relationships. Alphas were too childish and self-centered. Omegas were too fragile, always needing to be pampered. Even though she was an Omega herself, constantly coddling another person left her feeling exhausted.
Fu Linfeng, as the next General Manager of the Fu Corporation, was attending such an event for the first time. She didn’t want to, but her mother insisted she learn and observe. The moment Jiang Xu entered the venue, Fu Linfeng noticed her, capturing her attention just like she did most of the attendees.
Worth it.
Fu Linfeng was distracted throughout the entire auction, focused solely on the woman’s every move. She had originally planned to bid on something the beauty liked and send it over, giving her a perfect excuse to introduce herself. However, the woman didn’t participate at all from beginning to end. As soon as the auction concluded, Jiang Xu hurried out. Fu Linfeng, acting on instinct, followed her.
A sudden phone call made Fu Linfeng a little flustered.
Oh dear, I was planning to drink, so I didn’t drive. Now she found herself in the parking lot.
“Beautiful, if you’re heading to POLORIS, could you give me a ride?”
Fu Linfeng, busy taking the call, didn’t notice Jiang Xu walking towards her. She quickly hung up when she heard the voice. Are Omegas this bold these days? Getting into a stranger Alpha’s car?
“Sure, but aren’t you afraid of me?”
Of course not. The fitted gown perfectly hugged the curves of her body. Her calves, emphasized by high heels, had graceful yet strong muscle lines. Her whole aura was impeccably stylish. Jiang Xu absolutely loved this type—the elegant, beautiful Alpha.
She immediately opened the car door, got into the passenger seat, and buckled her seatbelt, answering the Alpha’s question with her actions.
“Fu Linfeng.”
“Jiang Xu.”
Fu Linfeng deliberately drove slowly, even taking a route that would be blocked by traffic, just to prolong their time together. She kept trying to think of what to talk about, but couldn’t utter a single word until they arrived at the destination.
Jiang Xu was about to open the door and leave, and Fu Linfeng hadn’t even managed to get her contact information.
“Ms. Jiang, I’m actually having dinner right near here. If it’s convenient for you, could I drive you back later tonight as well?”
“If you’re comfortable with that.”
This is certainly a novel way to hit on someone. This was the first time she had met such a shy Alpha. She scrutinized Fu Linfeng. No, this woman is exactly to my taste. What harm is there in giving it a try?
She took a card from her bag, wrote down her contact information, and left a bold lipstick imprint on it. She then slipped it down the neckline of Fu Linfeng’s dress, into her bra.
“See you later, Linfeng~”
She opened the door and walked away, leaving Fu Linfeng sitting in the car, flushed from head to toe. Fu Linfeng couldn’t remember how she drove to the restaurant. When she came back to her senses, she was already standing outside a bar. If she remembered correctly, this bar was owned by one of her friends for fun.
She pulled out a slim cigarette, put it in her mouth, and expertly lit it. It was true that she was a bit early. She had received a message from Jiang Xu and rushed over, leaving her friends behind, only to see that Jiang Xu had told her to come in an hour.
She still had half an hour to go.
【Come inside and get me.】
A number of Alphas were surrounding Jiang Xu, toasting her, but Jiang Xu simply smiled, not even lifting her glass.
How rude. Can’t they see she doesn’t want to?
Fu Linfeng walked straight to Jiang Xu’s side and possessively wrapped her arm around her, pulling her into an embrace.
“Sorry to keep you waiting.”
Seeing that Jiang Xu was already taken, the other Alphas stopped bothering her and went back to drinking.
Fu Linfeng’s pheromones gently enveloped her, making her feel incredibly secure. She unconsciously relaxed, enjoying the embrace. Seeing that Jiang Xu didn’t resist, Fu Linfeng lowered her shoulder, allowing her to lean more comfortably.
“Thank you.”
“Should we go now?”
In this lovely atmosphere, Jiang Xu expected a passionate night, but Fu Linfeng genuinely just drove her to her hotel and went home alone.
For several days in a row, Fu Linfeng was at Jiang Xu’s beck and call, accompanying her for meals, movies, park visits, and amusement parks. Fu Linfeng accompanied her through almost every corner of A City.
However, their most intimate gesture was nothing more than holding hands. Jiang Xu, who was used to fast-paced dating, particularly enjoyed this slow interaction. She figured they would end up together eventually, so there was no rush. She just wanted to see when this dense Alpha would finally confess.
Soon, a week passed. Jiang Xu was scheduled to leave tomorrow. When she told Fu Linfeng, she could clearly sense Fu Linfeng’s disappointment, yet even so, Jiang Xu still hadn’t heard Fu Linfeng say those words.
This made Jiang Xu angry for two whole days.
I’m so mad, I’m so mad! Fu Linfeng, you blockhead! How much more obvious do I have to be for you to understand?
So, that night, she arranged a drinking session. By the time Fu Linfeng’s video call came through, Jiang Xu was already back at her hotel room. She was quite drunk, completely limp on the bed, her cheeks flushed.
“Linfeng…”
“Why did you drink so much?”
How dare she ask? Of course, it was because some idiot had angered her so much that she had to drink to drown her sorrows. Hearing this question, the alcohol-infused Jiang Xu became even more upset.
“If you don’t have anything else to say, I’m hanging up. I’m so sleepy.”
“Wait a minute!”
“Jiang Xu, I like you. Will you date me?”
She finally said it. Fu Linfeng was so nervous her back was slick with sweat. She had wanted to confess while Jiang Xu was still in A City, but she lacked confidence, afraid that if she was rejected, she wouldn’t even be able to maintain their current friendship.
Being separated for the past few days had been excruciating. Jiang Xu’s image was constantly in her mind, making her unable to focus on work. She could only rely on short video calls every day to ease her longing.
“Yes, I will.”
The two people who had been secretly longing for each other finally became a couple.
The two-month long-distance relationship finally ended today. Jiang Xu decided to move back to the country. Fu Linfeng had already purchased a villa, ready for Jiang Xu to move in immediately upon her return.
“Linfeng!”
Ignoring her luggage, she rushed into Fu Linfeng’s arms, feeling incredibly safe inhaling her scent. Completely ignoring the people coming and going at the airport, she stood on her tiptoes and kissed Fu Linfeng on the lips.
“Welcome back.”
