A Faceful Of Lovey-Dovey PDA - Chapter 20
On ordinary days, Chu Mei always went for a sexy, seductive style. Pink and red were her favorites, though occasionally she would use black to change things up. But now… Chu Mei wore a long white dress. Compared to her previous skirts, this one truly counted as long, reaching all the way down to her ankles. Around her ankle was the silver anklet Su Qin had bought her when they graduated from middle school, adding a touch of sexiness. Her hair fell loose around her shoulders, without any accessories or decoration. She looked at Su Qin coldly, with a tiny bit of pride. Where was there still any trace of her previous foxlike charm? She had magnificently transformed into an arrogant little ice mountain.
Having a good face really was wonderful. When Chu Mei looked in the mirror, even she was intoxicated by herself. She thought in amusement that if she had worn this white dress with the face she had as a child, she would probably have looked exactly like a female ghost. Amid her emotion, Chu Mei felt especially grateful to Su Qin. During those years when she had been so ugly that humans and gods alike were angered by it, Su Qin had still stayed by her side without ever abandoning her. She had never said anything about Chu Mei’s appearance and had even treated her like a treasure, always looking at her with that “loving mother” gaze full of affection.
After dressing herself up, Chu Mei headed straight for Su Qin’s dorm. Although school had only started a few days ago, because Chu Mei visited so frequently, Su Qin’s roommates had long since become familiar with her. Seeing her like this, they could not help praising her. “Chuchu, did you change your personality? Why did you make yourself look so cold and icy?”
Chu Mei simply leaned against the doorframe and raised an eyebrow at Su Qin. “Girl, got time to take a stroll around the field?”
Everyone was amused. Su Qin had just put on her shoes and was about to go out with Chu Mei when, outside the door, a girl covered in sweat rushed in. “Ah Qin, Su Qin, the department head is looking for you.”
“What does she want at this hour?” Su Qin looked at her watch. The girl shook her head. “I don’t know. She seemed really anxious and specially asked me to run over. She told you to hurry there.”
“This…” Su Qin looked at Chu Mei. Although Chu Mei’s first attempt at pretending to be an aloof older-sister type had ended with her being stood up, it was the department head after all, someone at the level of Abbess Miejue. She had better not cling to Su Qin and refuse to let go.
As soon as Su Qin stepped out, Chu Mei kicked off her high heels, dragged on Su Qin’s slippers, and rolled onto her bed.
The yellow-haired girl on the bunk opposite Su Qin, Erya, hurriedly reminded her, “She’s a clean freak.” Last time, after showering, Erya had worn Su Qin’s slippers. Although Su Qin had not said anything, the next day she had directly changed to a new pair. Her bedsheets were also always being washed, and her toothbrush and toiletries were placed separately. Su Qin already looked cold and icy to begin with, and with this added on, the people in the dorm felt somewhat intimidated and kept their distance. They were even more relaxed around Chu Mei than around her.
Chu Mei swiped at Su Qin’s iPad and entered her own birthday to unlock the password. “I know.”
The moment it opened, she saw a photo of the two of them on the screen, and Chu Mei’s heart felt warm.
As Erya rubbed hand cream into her hands, she chatted casually with Chu Mei. “Chuchu, you and Su Qin have known each other for many years, right?” Daring to openly lie on Su Qin’s bed and play with her iPad—there was definitely no shallow relationship between them.
Chu Mei nodded. “It’s all right. Seventeen years.”
Erya: “…”
Was this a naked display of affection?
Chu Mei flipped through Su Qin’s photo album. There was nothing unusual; it was all photos of the two of them together. She looked at Erya and asked, “Erya, are your classes busy?”
Erya applied a face mask. “Busy with what? Our major is completely out of place at this university. The teachers aren’t top-notch either. Speaking of which, now that you mention it, I just remembered something. I heard Su Qin was the regional top scorer. What was she thinking? Why did she apply to this university? Everyone says her brain must have short-circuited.”
Chu Mei sighed. “Maybe she was entranced by beauty.”
Erya: “…”
She discovered that chatting with Chu Mei really was quite difficult. This child’s train of thought never seemed to run on the same track as hers.
“She’s so outstanding. A lot of people must be drooling over her, right?” Chu Mei stared straight at Erya and finally asked the question she had always wanted to ask.
Erya had no idea what the relationship between the two of them really was. Seeing that Chu Mei was easy to get along with, she rarely indulged in a little gossip with her. “Of course. From the class monitor to the rich second-generation guy in our class, it’s only been a few days and quite a few people have expressed interest in her. Just a few days ago, that rich second-generation guy was especially exaggerated. He prepared nine hundred ninety-nine Blue Enchantress roses for her, and he even knelt while giving them to her.”
In an instant, Chu Mei fell from heaven straight into a pool of vinegar. “I really don’t know what boys nowadays are thinking. Is my Ah Qin the kind of girl who can be tempted by money?”
Erya nodded. “Exactly. Su Qin didn’t even pay attention to him.”
Chu Mei felt slightly better after hearing this. Then Erya added, “Among all the pursuers, the one I think has the best chance is that guy called Ling Feng. Not only is he handsome and tall, he also looks cultured. He knows everything about astronomy and geography. I heard his grades were very high too. He missed his first-choice university by only one point, and after barely missing it, he came to our department. He’s refined, polite, and especially well-mannered.”
Chu Mei sat up and set the iPad aside. Her voice had already begun turning cold. “In what way is he good?”
Erya was trimming her toenails and did not raise her head. “Well, at the very least, Su Qin avoids everyone else as much as she can, but she treats Ling Feng much better. I heard that two days ago, the two of them even went to self-study together. Oh right, Ling Feng also joined the student council. I think he’s the secretary-general.”
Chu Mei stopped speaking. Her hands tightly clutched the bedsheet. Went to self-study together? Aiyo, not bad, Su Qin. Something was going on this quickly? And who was it yesterday, holding her face and saying she was beautiful? In the blink of an eye, Su Qin had already changed her heart.
“I know you two are close, so of course you won’t feel reassured. You can go take a look yourself later. Ling Feng is pretty much a figure in our department too,” Erya said. When she finished and looked up, Chu Mei’s face was already covered in storm clouds. She stood up. “I’ll go look now.”
“Ah…” Erya looked at her expression. Something was wrong. Why was her reaction so huge?
Chu Mei did not contact Su Qin. After asking around and searching all over, she finally found the student council office. A bunch of people inside were busy, and the door was half-closed. She secretly peeked from outside.
Everyone seemed to be busy with military training matters. Su Qin was bent over drawing a poster. A strand of long hair fell across her forehead, and she tucked it behind her ear. Her brows were slightly furrowed. Chu Mei understood her. Usually, Su Qin only made this expression when she was anxious.
Just as Chu Mei was watching in fascination, a boy dressed entirely in black walked over from beside her. He leaned close to Su Qin and pointed at a few words on her drawing board. Su Qin nodded and directly handed him the brush.
The boy did not refuse. He took it and, with a few swift strokes, neat and beautiful regular-script characters appeared on the poster. Needless to say, this had to be the cultured, handsome guy Erya had mentioned: Ling Feng.
Su Qin smiled faintly in satisfaction. The boy raised an eyebrow. The two of them lowered their heads and said a few more words. Su Qin nodded, took the brush back, and continued drawing.
Chu Mei’s body pressed against the cold wall. She felt that her heart had gone a little cold too. If she remembered correctly, when they were little, Su Qin had once told her she liked people with pretty handwriting. That boy’s handwriting really was beautiful, unlike hers… crooked and twisted like an elementary schooler’s.
Chu Mei was wallowing in self-pity when a tall girl walked over. She looked Chu Mei up and down, then curled her lips. “It’s you?”
Chu Mei looked at her and found her familiar. After thinking for a moment, she hesitantly asked, “You’re… that girl who approached Sister Fang?”
The tall girl was amused. When she smiled, two little tiger teeth showed, making her look very pleasant. She held out her hand. “My name is Shu Ning. I’m from the physical education department’s basketball class. You’re Chu Mei, right? I heard your basketball is pretty good. Want to play a few rounds with a professional?”
Chu Mei hesitated. She had agreed to wait for Su Qin in the dorm, after all. Was it really okay to run off and play basketball like this? But then she glanced back into the room and saw that whatever-his-name-was Ling Feng still seemed to be following Su Qin from behind.
Chu Mei’s heart fell out of balance. She reached out her hand. “Sure.”
“…”
Inside, after half an hour of work, Su Qin finally managed to finish the poster with great difficulty. She greeted everyone and left first. Ling Feng wanted to see her off, but she refused no matter what, afraid that if that little ancestor Chu Mei saw it, she would feel uncomfortable.
Su Qin practically jogged all the way back to the dorm. The moment she entered and saw the empty bed, she froze. “Where is she?” Her breathing had not even evened out yet, and her cheeks were faintly red, making her look especially lovable.
Erya was eating instant noodles. “Oh, she went out. Said she had something to do.”
Su Qin bit her lip. Ever since childhood, Chu Mei had never dared stand her up like this. She picked up her phone and called Chu Mei.
On the field, Chu Mei was shooting baskets using the method Shu Ning had taught her. Sure enough, it saved quite a bit more effort than before.
Sitting on the ground, Shu Ning admired Chu Mei, who could still have fun even in a long dress. Out of nowhere, she saw Chu Mei’s phone ringing where it had been placed to the side. The image on the phone screen was none other than the beauty she had seen in the cafeteria that day, the one Chu Mei had been clinging to nonstop. Shu Ning frowned and directly hung up the call.
The person on the other end of the phone seemed unwilling to give up and continued calling. Shu Ning used her clothes to shield her hand, switched the phone to airplane mode, and continued smiling as she watched Chu Mei shoot baskets.
