A Female Lead Wants a Lifelong Union With Me (Quick Transmigration) - Chapter 17
Lin Ruoxue did not leave after An He fell asleep.
She lay there quietly by An He’s side, her gaze fixed on her sleeping face, a beautiful smile playing at the corners of her lips. This feeling made her incredibly happy—a kind of joy that words couldn’t quite describe.
Back when An He was studying, Lin Ruoxue used to listen from the side and memorized many verses describing one person’s adoration for another. But now, she couldn’t remember a single line; the only thing clear in her mind was the name “Ren Xixi.”
She smiled and reached out to clasp An He’s hand, carefully and gently squeezing it bit by bit. At the same time, she repeatedly told herself in her heart: This person is mine. No one can take her away.
She is mine forever and ever.
While An He was sleeping soundly, a sudden, violent pounding erupted at the door.
The knocking was loud and urgent, making the entire door rattle and bang as if it couldn’t withstand the force. An He, who was in the middle of a dream, bolted upright in bed, her eyes wide with confusion.
The System started shouting in her head, telling her: “Earthquake! Run, hurry! If you don’t run now, you’re dead!”
An He snapped awake instantly. By reflex, she glanced to her side. Lin Ruoxue appeared to have just woken up as well, looking at her with bleary, sleep-filled eyes.
She said, “Xixi, what’s wrong? Are you having a nightmar—”
Before she could finish the question, An He grabbed her by the sleeve and hauled her up, tucking the woman into her arms like a little chick.
Lin Ruoxue: “…” This was the first time she realized her Xixi actually had so much strength.
“Earthquake!” An He yelled in her ear, her voice laced with panic.
Lin Ruoxue froze and instinctively looked around. Everything was perfectly normal; there wasn’t a trace of danger in sight. Aside from the banging at the door, nothing was different from any other day.
She sighed, wanting to comfort An He and tell her there was no earthquake—that she was just dreaming. But before she could get the words out, An He sat up straight, grabbed her hand, and said with a face full of resolve: “Don’t be afraid, I’ll get you out of here!”
The words Lin Ruoxue intended to say got stuck in her throat.
When An He said that, her whole being seemed to glow, and her eyes sparkled like tiny stars. Lin Ruoxue was deeply moved; in the face of danger, An He’s first instinct was to protect her and take her to safety. Could she interpret this as… An He actually cared for her? Even if it was just a little bit, Lin Ruoxue felt immensely satisfied.
While Lin Ruoxue was busy being sentimental, An He had already pulled on her shoes. Then she turned around, attempting to lift Lin Ruoxue directly off the bed.
The System asked in her head: “Why do you care about Lin Ruoxue so much? In such a critical moment, you’re actually thinking of her.”
“Duh,” An He said. “If my mission target dies, how am I supposed to complete the mission?”
System: “…You’re absolutely right. I have no rebuttal.”
Despite her determination, Lin Ruoxue was ultimately heavier than her. Plus, An He had just been “eaten,” and her waist was incredibly sore and weak; she simply couldn’t muster the strength.
While she was hunched over, working hard, the person at the door couldn’t wait any longer.
He knocked again, then shouted, “Pardon the intrusion, Great Immortal!” and pushed the door open.
Directly facing him was An He’s hard-working backside and the deeply moved look in Lin Ruoxue’s eyes on the bed.
He seemed to have seen something he wasn’t supposed to…
Noticing that someone had entered, An He froze. She looked back at him and shouted anxiously, “What are you coming in for? Run!”
“Run? Run for what?” the man asked, bewildered and full of confusion.
“What do you mean run for what? Obviously, it’s an earth—” An He stopped mid-sentence.
The surroundings were deathly quiet. Every object was placed exactly where it belonged, without a hint of swaying. Beneath her feet, she couldn’t feel the slightest vibration.
At this point, An He was finally fully awake from her dream state. She also realized the fact that the trashy System had been lying to her.
An He: “…” What a sin.
The man in front of her was still staring, waiting for her to finish, his expression inevitably a bit frantic. An He sighed, turned back to sit on the edge of the bed, and gently closed her eyes.
When she reopened them, she had returned to her usual unruffled, calm demeanor.
“It is nothing,” she said, arching an eyebrow and speaking softly. “I was just ‘enlightening’ this young lady beside me. I accidentally became a bit too invested, so my behavior was somewhat extreme. It is no matter now.”
Hearing this, Lin Ruoxue felt she ought to cooperate with the performance. Thus, she straightened her posture, mimicking those who practice Buddhism by pressing her palms together. She bowed to An He and murmured: “Many thanks for the Great Immortal’s enlightenment.”
“Mm,” An He responded. She raised a hand and gave Lin Ruoxue’s head two “fake” ritualistic pats, then whispered, “Go now.”
“Right.” Lin Ruoxue nodded, put on her shoes, and walked out without looking back.
The man standing in the room was completely hoodwinked by An He’s act. When he looked at An He again, his gaze was noticeably different—filled with pure worship.
“What is your business?” An He asked. “If it’s nothing, I wish to rest.”
“There is something! There is something!” Seeing it was his turn, the man hurried forward a few steps and stood before An He, looking a bit hesitant to speak.
“What happened?” Seeing him hesitate, An He could only ask with forced patience.
The man paused, his expression looking very heavy and conflicted. Finally, he gritted his teeth and spilled everything to An He in one go.
An He hadn’t taken him seriously at first, thinking it was some trivial matter. But hearing him speak now, her expression turned grave as well. Even the skin on her back and scalp began to tingle.
“You’re the only one we can rely on,” the man said after finishing his explanation of the situation. He returned to his original spot, his voice carrying a plea. “You must help us, otherwise our future days will never be peaceful!”
An He listened to him and fell silent for a moment, not responding. The man thought she was considering the request, but he didn’t realize she was actually chatting with the System.
An He: “If I really handle this well, does it count as promoting positive energy? Will you give me extra points?”
System: “Handle it first, then we’ll talk…”
An He wouldn’t let it go: “Tell me first, does it count?”
“Fine, fine, fine! It counts, it counts!” the System sighed.
“With that word from you, I’m at ease.” Having received the System’s confirmation, An He smiled. Then she spoke again, her tone carrying a hint of resolve.
“Don’t worry. I’m helping you with this to the very end.”
