A Female Lead Wants a Lifelong Union With Me (Quick Transmigration) - Chapter 21
An He slept very fitfully that night.
If there was so much as a rustle in the grass or the stir of a leaf, she would instantly snap her eyes open, terrified of running into danger.
On Lin Ruoxue’s side, nothing seemed amiss. She remained lying steadily on the bed, though a sword rested beside her pillow. An He knew, however, that the fox wasn’t sleeping soundly either; those green-glowing eyes were frequently open.
Time flowed slowly like this until the Hour of the Rat (midnight).
It was still pitch black outside. From time to time, faint, indistinguishable sounds drifted from afar, mingled with the howling of wild dogs.
An He rolled over to face Lin Ruoxue and swallowed softly.
She really had to go to the bathroom; she couldn’t hold it anymore…
Although An He usually wasn’t bothered by horror movies and could maintain a calm heart even when seeing a ghost, that didn’t mean she was brave. It was just that compared to ghosts, she had something she feared much more.
Bad people.
The area where she lived as a child was extremely chaotic. Just as a child, she knew of no fewer than three murder cases. Once, it happened in her own apartment building—two floors above them, the victim was a mistress. When An He heard about it, she was terrified, but when she saw the criminal’s face on the news, she broke into a cold sweat.
She had seen that man before. He had shared an elevator with her and had even patted her hair. From then on, a layer of courage was forcibly stripped away from her.
System: “So this tells us: don’t watch the news casually.”
An He: “Are you toxic?…”
System: “All beautiful things are toxic. Haven’t you heard that?”
An He: “Please be quiet, thank you. Otherwise, in the next world, I’m really going to apply for a complaint mechanism with your boss.”
“Eh, alright then,” the System replied. “If you don’t want me to talk, I won’t. Let’s not hurt each other, mwah!”
An He: “Mwah your ghost.”
Seeing the System fall silent, An He sighed and rolled over again.
Looking back at the events of the last two days, she still felt a lingering dread. If it weren’t for the sake of completing the mission, she definitely wouldn’t have waded into this mess. But since she was already involved, there was no way out; she had to overcome whatever hardships came her way.
Such as… going to the bathroom alone on a pitch-black night like this.
Before this, she had considered just closing her eyes, enduring it, and trying to fall asleep until morning. But that plan clearly wasn’t working. After tossing and turning several times, not only did she fail to fall asleep, but she woke up Lin Ruoxue, who was sleeping on the floor.
“Xixi, what’s wrong?” Seeing An He thrashing about on the bed, Lin Ruoxue thought she was unwell. She scrambled up, sat by the bed, and leaned down in the darkness to look at her.
She saw fine beads of sweat on An He’s forehead. Her face was flushed, and her eyes darted back and forth, looking like she wanted to say something but was holding back.
“You…” Lin Ruoxue paused. For a moment, her thoughts drifted toward the erotica she had found in the room earlier.
Among the little stories Lin Yueyue had simulated, there was a scene where An He was drugged by a villain. Fortunately, Lin Ruoxue arrived in time, drove the villain away, and helped alleviate the effects of the drug. She had read that part carefully and remembered that the An He in the book looked exactly like this—pitiful and alluring.
“Xixi.” Realizing this, Lin Ruoxue quickly kicked off her shoes and gently climbed onto the bed.
An He lay there watching her, completely oblivious to what she was doing. Why had she suddenly jumped onto the bed?
“You—” Before An He could speak, Lin Ruoxue had already moved, tenderly kissing her on the lips.
An He: ???
“No, wait, what are you doing?!” Her wrist was pinned by Lin Ruoxue, and she let out a low, terrified growl.
“Xixi, I know what’s wrong with you.” Lin Ruoxue showed no self-awareness; instead, she curled her lips into a smile and gently nuzzled An He’s arm with her tail. “I’ll help you.”
An He: “I need to go to the bathroom! How is she going to help me?!”
System: “Maybe it’s like toilet-training a child,” the System suggested. “Like holding you and whistling.”
An He: “…”
While she was in a daze, Lin Ruoxue had already quickly stripped An He’s pants and pressed her body down.
The room was dark, with no lights on, save for the faint glow from a small cluster of will-o’-the-wisps by An He’s pillow. This light reflected in Lin Ruoxue’s eyes, making them appear even brighter. That green glint actually made An He feel a bit unnerved.
An He: This damn fox doesn’t know what triggered her, but she wants to ‘eat’ me again, aaaaaah!
The System comforted her in her head, saying she’d get used to it. An He expressed that she really couldn’t.
Lin Ruoxue finished undressing An He and turned to take off her own clothes, her tail wagging back and forth. An He took this chance to sit up and reach out to stop her, looking like she was about to cry.
“Xixi, you…” Lin Ruoxue froze, her movements pausing.
“You’ve misunderstood! Really!” Seeing her stop, An He hurried to explain. “I just want to go to the bathroom! I really didn’t plan on doing this. Did you overthink it?”
“You… you didn’t want me to sleep with—” Lin Ruoxue began.
“Shh, shh, shh!” An He quickly covered her mouth. “No, no, no.”
The moment she said that, Lin Ruoxue’s tail drooped instantly, looking exactly like an aggrieved little wife.
“Scum!” the System cursed An He in her head again. “Let her sleep with you!”
“You come and let her sleep with you then!” An He roared back. “Sore waist, aching back, and leg cramps—the full-service package!”
Hearing this, the System went silent.
Despite feeling a bit regretful, Lin Ruoxue still accompanied An He to the bathroom to prevent her from holding it in until she got sick.
On the way from the room to the latrine, Lin Ruoxue spent the whole time bargaining. Finally, she successfully “booked” an appointment for tomorrow night. An He felt extremely disgruntled by the fact that she just wanted a bathroom break but somehow ended up “selling” herself.
The latrine was in the inn’s backyard. You had to go downstairs, through the kitchen curtain, and around the corner. Because of the terrifying ghost-killing incident during the day, no one was staying overnight to drink, so the lobby was deathly quiet.
The two of them tiptoed downstairs, finished their business, and were prepared to tiptoe back.
However, just as they reached the foot of the stairs, they heard a sharp sound from the entrance. It was a thwack, like an arrow hitting a wall.
An He paused, wanting to go out and look, but Lin Ruoxue held her back.
“Shh.” Lin Ruoxue put her index finger to her lips, then secretly manipulated the wind.
The wind surged, rushing forward like a wild wolf. The locked door was slammed open, and the scene outside was instantly exposed.
The outside… was completely empty.
Lin Ruoxue used the wind to search the area, but found no danger, except for the object pinned to the wall.
It was another tree twig. This time, there was no corpse hanging from it—only a piece of paper.
Lin Ruoxue stepped forward, took down the note, and glanced at it. There were only a few words written on it. The handwriting was wild and unrestrained, elegant and free—clearly the hand of a literate person.
“I have discovered your identity.”
That was exactly what was written on the paper.
