A Fishing-Type Omega Always Wants to Possess Me - Chapter 1
The engagement ceremony was held on a bright, sunny day in early summer.
To make it in time, Yu Mianzhou bought a ticket on the earliest flight back home.
The sunlight in Song City was brilliant, the morning mist not yet fully dispersed, yet it carried a more vibrant and charming vitality than the rainy season in Country Y.
The moment she got off the plane, she checked the time—9 a.m. local time.
It took three years to leave Song City for Country Y, but only eleven hours to return.
The Jiang family’s car had been waiting outside the airport for a long time.
Seeing her approach, the butler immediately stepped forward, respectfully taking the luggage from her hands. “Second Miss, it’s been a long time.”
Even after so many years, hearing the title “Second Miss” still gave Yu Mianzhou a physiological sense of discomfort.
She didn’t show it, however, and replied calmly, “I didn’t expect Butler Sun to come pick me up personally.”
Butler Sun was a veteran employee who had worked for the Jiang family for decades and was deeply trusted by the current head of the family, Jiang Yingqiu. Normally, he would never personally handle such a minor task as picking someone up.
He smiled. “Today is a joyous occasion for the main family. The Eldest Miss is engaged to Miss Gu, so everyone is extremely busy. I’m the only one with some free time. Second Miss won’t mind an old man like me, will you?”
Yu Mianzhou acted as if she didn’t catch the implication in his words and curved her lips as well. “Of course not.”
“That’s good.” The butler opened the car door. “Please get in, Second Miss. Madam and Ms. Yu have been waiting at home for quite some time.”
The car drove into the city. Half an hour later, it passed through a grand avenue lined with plane trees and finally stopped at Shen Garden.
Compared to when Yu Mianzhou left, Shen Garden didn’t seem to have changed much.
It still stood on an exclusive plot of land, monopolizing both mountain and lake views, like an isolated palace, exuding the owner’s nobility and elegance in every detail.
The moment she stepped out of the car, she was greeted by a giant archway woven from pink balloons and white roses, wrapped with gilded light strips that glowed softly under the sunlight.
The air carried the sweet scent of champagne, the fragrance of fresh flowers, and the unique fresh aroma of grass and wood from the estate.
Well-dressed guests wandered among the neatly trimmed greenery, holding champagne flutes.
She had arrived at just the right time—the engagement ceremony was beginning.
To the sound of moving music and under the applause and cheers of the crowd, a perfect couple slowly walked down the red carpet toward the white gauze platform beside the fountain.
Almost the instant Jiang Zhi appeared, everyone’s eyes were involuntarily drawn to her.
She was wearing a lotus-pink gown today, her long hair pinned up to reveal a slender, fair neck. Her face was adorned with delicate light makeup, perfectly blending cool elegance with vivid charm.
Just by standing there, everything around her became a blurred background.
This face was almost etched into Yu Mianzhou’s soul. She turned, wanting to leave.
Before she could take a step, the butler smiled and blocked her path. “Where is Second Miss going? It’s such a happy occasion. Why don’t we stay and watch the whole thing? It’ll bring us some good luck, yes?”
This was the second time the butler had used the word “joyous occasion” today.
Yu Mianzhou had no choice but to stop and continue watching the ceremony.
Since the Jiang family didn’t want her to miss this perfect engagement, she would watch it properly.
In the center of the crowd, Jiang Zhi didn’t seem to notice her. She was holding the arm of the tall woman beside her—
Gu Wanlan, the Gu family’s daughter, one of the few registered S-class Alphas in the country.
A loud “Bang!” rang out as ceremonial cannons fired, and flower petals rained down from the sky, dreamy and romantic—like a fairytale blessing granted only at the happy ending.
One petal landed in Jiang Zhi’s hair.
Miss Gu stood tall and straight. When she looked down at Jiang Zhi, the tenderness in her eyes nearly overflowed.
She reached out and gently brushed the petal from Jiang Zhi’s hair. The motion was natural and intimate.
This gesture drew waves of envy from the surrounding guests, who offered their blessings one after another.
At this moment, the butler glanced at Yu Mianzhou. He saw that this unpopular Second Miss did not show any of the emotions he had expected—jealousy, unwillingness, or lingering attachment.
Instead, her expression was far too calm.
There was even a faint smile on her lips.
That calmness somehow made her expression appear eerie… even a little unhinged.
Why would I think that? the old butler shook his head. When he looked again, Yu Mianzhou had already turned toward him and smiled. “The ceremony is over. Can we go now?”
Her eyes were clear and transparent, as if everything he had seen earlier was just an illusion.
After three years, the old butler realized he could no longer see through this young woman. He turned and led Yu Mianzhou toward the main building. “Second Miss, please follow me.”
As soon as they entered the main building, two maids took her without explanation into a dimly lit small room. They pressed down on her shoulders, forcing her knees to slam onto the cold bluestone floor with a heavy thud.
The pain made her fingertips curl slightly. She didn’t even have the strength to groan.
A woman immediately rushed over and hugged her tightly, her voice choked with sobs. “Mianzhou, my Mianzhou! Mom missed you so much! How have you been these past few years abroad? When you weren’t here, I missed you so much I couldn’t eat or sleep properly. Now that you’re back, Mom can finally be at ease!”
The long-awaited embrace made Yu Mianzhou’s body stiffen involuntarily.
Really?
Suppressing the pain in her knees, she lowered her gaze to look at Yu Shu, who was holding her tightly—
Fashionable curly hair, exquisite manicure, and from head to toe, all the latest luxury items from the current season.
Despite supposedly being unable to sleep, there wasn’t a single fine line at the corners of her eyes.
Was this longing simply too deeply hidden, or had it been rendered insignificant under the nourishment of money?
Yu Mianzhou also curved her lips. “I missed you too, Mom.”
“The butler must have already shown you Zhi Zhi and Miss Gu’s engagement ceremony,” a cold voice suddenly sounded from above, interrupting the two.
Yu Mianzhou looked up and saw rows upon rows of ancestral tablets densely packed on the offering table, neatly arranged. Candle flames flickered in front of the tablets.
The smell of incense mixed with dust swirled in the space, casting flickering light and shadow across Jiang Yingqiu’s face.
Jiang Yingqiu—Jiang Zhi’s mother and the current head of the Jiang family.
She seemed to have been waiting here for a long time. “Mianzhou, since you’ve returned, you should know what you should and shouldn’t do. Today, in front of our ancestors, you must promise that you will behave yourself from now on and be a proper member of the Jiang family…”
Her voice was completely emotionless, like a machine.
Fortunately, Yu Mianzhou understood.
She couldn’t help but hook her lips. Behave herself? A proper Jiang family member?
These people hated what happened back then so much that they wouldn’t even mention it?
Besides, was she even worthy of being considered a Jiang family member?
Her prolonged silence made the already tense atmosphere in the ancestral hall even more suffocating.
Because of the engagement, many senior members of the Jiang clan were present, serving as witnesses.
More than a dozen pairs of eyes—large and small—stabbed into Yu Mianzhou’s lonely but straight back like sharp knives.
In the end, Yu Shu couldn’t bear the atmosphere any longer. She grabbed her daughter’s wrist, eyes red, and said, “Mianzhou, your Aunt Jiang is doing this for your own good.”
“Don’t be stubborn anymore. Just do as your Aunt Jiang says. If not for yourself, then think about Mom…”
Yu Mianzhou didn’t look at her. Instead, she raised her eyes and met Jiang Yingqiu’s gaze.
This cold, condescending look—she hadn’t seen it in a very long time.
She didn’t know what she was thinking.
After a long moment, she finally spoke:
“…I promise.”
“I, Yu Mianzhou, swear that in this life, I will behave myself, never cross the line, and never covet what does not belong to me.”
Her voice was hoarse, as if scraped by sandpaper. Her gaze returned to the ancestral tablets as she continued word by word:
“If I break this oath, may I be struck by lightning, lose all five senses, and die alone.”
The moment her words fell, two more figures appeared at the entrance of the ancestral hall.
Yu Mianzhou’s gaze had been unfocused, but she seemed to sense something and looked up.
The instant she saw that face clearly, a candle on the altar crackled loudly.
The world seemed to suddenly press pause, as if she had traveled through a long time tunnel.
She watched Jiang Zhi’s figure gradually emerge—from the blurry outline of the doorway to her clear brows and eyes. Every detail slowly came into focus.
Finally, when that face became fully clear, even the rhythm of light and shadow stirring the air seemed to stop.
Through the layers of ancestral tablets and candlelight, the graceful figure stepped into Yu Mianzhou’s sight.
The two had apparently just come from the engagement banquet; their clothes were still dotted with many flower petals.
The union of a top Alpha and a top Omega was, just by mention, a beautiful story.
Moreover, these two matched perfectly in appearance, talent, and family background.
What a perfect match they made.
Yu Mianzhou suddenly smiled. Her voice was soft and gentle, like a prayer to God:
“I wish Sister Jiang Zhi and her future partner a harmonious marriage and a lifetime together until old age.”
Jiang Zhi didn’t even glance at her.
Gu Wanlan, however, widened her eyes in pleasant surprise.
Jiang Yingqiu stared at Yu Mianzhou for a long time, trying to discern the truth in her words.
But she couldn’t find any flaw. The blessing in Yu Mianzhou’s eyes was so sincere.
Combined with the extremely vicious oath she had just made, Jiang Yingqiu glanced at her watch and finally chose to believe her. “You child, I only asked you to make a promise. Why did you swear such a heavy oath? Since you’re back, rest well at home for a while.”
With that, she had work to attend to and didn’t have time to linger. She quickly left the ancestral hall with her people.
As soon as Jiang Yingqiu left, Yu Shu seemed to collapse from relief, losing all strength and slumping to the ground.
She looked at Yu Mianzhou, her tone carrying a hint of complaint. “Xiao Zhou, what were you being so stubborn about just now? Why did you hesitate for so long? How many times do I have to tell you? You’re just a Beta, useless to the family. We’ve been living in the Jiang family all these years, eating their food and using their resources. We should be grateful. Don’t tell me you’re still—”
Yu Shu suddenly stopped mid-sentence and carefully glanced toward the entrance of the ancestral hall.
Fortunately, Jiang Zhi hadn’t noticed.
Yu Shu sighed with red eyes. “In the end, it’s Mom who’s useless. At least your Aunt Jiang has now agreed to let you stay in the country. Xiao Zhou, from now on you must behave and keep your word…”
Yu Mianzhou listened to Yu Shu’s endless nagging and found it extremely noisy.
She tried to push herself up from the floor, but her legs had gone numb from kneeling for too long.
Fortunately, a perceptive maid came over and helped her up.
“Is this Mianzhou meimei?” As soon as they walked out of the ancestral hall, a gentle female voice sounded beside her.
Gu Wanlan walked slowly to Yu Mianzhou, her expression calm and courteous. Her long black hair was smooth and draped over her shoulders, immediately marking her as a well-bred young lady from a scholarly family.
She smiled softly. “I’ve heard others mention you before. I heard you were studying abroad. Have you graduated and returned home?”
Yu Mianzhou’s background was an open secret in their circle. She hadn’t expected a proper heiress like Gu Wanlan to call her “meimei.”
She was silent for two seconds before finally squeezing out a smile. “Miss Gu, is there something you need from me?”
Seeing Yu Mianzhou smile, Gu Wanlan breathed a sigh of relief. She had been worried that Jiang Zhi’s stepsister would be difficult to deal with.
She also remembered that this girl had just blessed her in the ancestral hall.
Gu Wanlan said gently, “It’s like this. My wedding with your Sister Jiang Zhi is next month. I didn’t know you would be back, so I didn’t include your name on the invitation.”
“Now that you’re back, I’d like to formally invite you to attend our wedding next month—”
A loud “buzz” rang out as if all the air in the living room had been instantly sucked away.
Then it was crushed by an invisible block of ice, making even the flow of air feel freezing.
All the servants in the room turned their heads toward them in unison, their movements stiff and synchronized. The sight made Gu Wanlan’s back inexplicably go numb.
Wh-what’s going on?
Amid everyone’s tense expressions, only Yu Mianzhou was still smiling.
She didn’t know whether this Miss Gu truly didn’t know or was pretending not to know.
In her peripheral vision, she saw Jiang Zhi sitting on the sofa, calmly admiring the gardenia flowers outside the floor-to-ceiling windows.
Until she heard Gu Wanlan’s words. Her previously calm, water-like gaze finally crawled up the back of Yu Mianzhou’s neck like a venomous snake.
Yu Mianzhou suddenly found it very interesting.
The entire Jiang family avoided her like a plague, afraid to let her get close. They had only dared let her watch the engagement from afar.
Yet this person dared to invite her to the wedding.
As one of the main characters’ guests, no less.
Time passed second by second until the atmosphere in the living room grew unbearably oppressive in the silence.
Yu Mianzhou’s interest was piqued. The corners of her lips curved into an extremely docile smile:
“Sure.”
