A Fishing-Type Omega Always Wants to Possess Me - Chapter 2
The moment those two words left her mouth, everyone in the living room seemed to freeze, as if someone had pressed the pause button.
The servants stood stiffly in place, even their breathing becoming lighter.
Yu Shu’s face instantly turned deathly pale. She felt as if needles were pricking her back and nearly fainted on the spot.
She was about to scold Yu Mianzhou to salvage the situation, but Gu Wanlan spoke first.
She had noticed the strange atmosphere and found the faint, elusive smile on Yu Mianzhou’s lips rather unsettling. Such a beautiful face, yet when she smiled, it made one’s heart crawl.
Assuming it was because Yu Mianzhou had just returned and wasn’t yet adjusted, Gu Wanlan maintained her grace and said gently, “Then it’s settled. We’ll be waiting for you at the wedding, Mianzhou meimei.”
That word “meimei” sounded particularly grating.
Yu Mianzhou looked at the servants standing around like they were facing a great enemy, the curve of her lips unchanged.
These people pretended not to pay attention to her, but in reality, they were all watching her like hawks.
She spoke softly, “I will definitely arrive on time and give Sister Jiang Zhi and Miss Gu my most sincere blessings.”
As soon as her words fell, the invisible pressure in the room suddenly dissipated, and the air began to flow again.
Yu Shu was no longer dizzy. Afraid her daughter would say something even more shocking, she quickly turned to Gu Wanlan and said, “Wanlan, the engagement banquet must have been tiring. You’ve been busy all morning. Take Xiao Zhi upstairs to rest.”
Gu Wanlan nodded, walked over to the sofa, and extended her hand toward Jiang Zhi. “Let’s go, Zhi Zhi. We still have an appointment with the designer this afternoon to look at wedding dresses.”
Zhi Zhi was Jiang Zhi’s nickname.
In front of her fiancée, Jiang Zhi showed no temper at all.
She stood up and even gave Gu Wanlan a sweet smile.
That smile was completely non-threatening—gentle, light, and delicate in a way that made anyone want to cherish it.
As she walked past Yu Mianzhou, the hem of her dress stirred a faint breeze.
That breeze carried the scent Yu Mianzhou knew best, mixing with the fragrance of the flowers outside the window, making her breath catch for half a beat.
In that second, Jiang Zhi’s steps seemed to pause for the briefest moment—so short that even Gu Wanlan didn’t notice.
She still didn’t turn her head. Those eyes that had gazed at Yu Mianzhou countless times now only reflected the shadow of her fiancée.
This kind of dignified indifference hurt Yu Mianzhou more than any humiliation, chilling her to the bone.
Yu Mianzhou’s fingertips curled imperceptibly at her side.
Once Jiang Zhi left, the servants in the living room finally came back to life and quickly scattered to their tasks.
Looking at the rapidly emptying living room, Yu Mianzhou lowered her eyes.
Three years was enough time for many memories to fade and blur.
She had almost forgotten.
That Jiang Zhi could smile at another woman like that.
“Yu Mianzhou!”
Yu Shu could no longer suppress her rage. Her well-maintained face twisted slightly. “Who gave you permission to agree to attend Jiang Zhi’s wedding? Have you forgotten what you just promised your Aunt Jiang?! I told you to behave yourself. You’ve only just returned to the country—are you not afraid of being driven out again for ano—”
“Mom,” Yu Mianzhou interrupted her indifferently.
This so-called “long-awaited” mother-daughter reunion hadn’t even lasted an hour.
Her dark eyes lowered, like an unfathomable cold pool under moonlight. “I’m tired. I’m going to sleep first.”
“You only know how to sleep! Your wings have hardened now—you won’t even listen to your own mother. Would I ever harm you?!” Yu Shu was both angry and resentful. Overcome with emotion, she staggered two steps and leaned against the back of the sofa, looking as though she didn’t want to continue.
Yu Mianzhou didn’t press the issue and simply turned to leave.
She called over a maid, who picked up her luggage and led her upstairs.
When they passed the second floor, the maid didn’t stop. Yu Mianzhou glanced toward the end of the second-floor corridor before continuing to follow.
On the third floor, the maid stopped in front of a room and spoke in a mechanical tone, devoid of any extra emotion: “Second Miss, your room has been moved here.”
When Yu Mianzhou had first been brought to the Jiang family, her room was on the second floor, directly opposite Jiang Zhi’s.
Now she was living alone on the third floor.
There were only two rooms on this level. The room opposite hers was Jiang Zhi’s music room.
After the maid left, Yu Mianzhou pushed open the door to her room.
The location had changed, but the interior layout was exactly the same as when she had hurriedly left three years ago.
Desk, lamp, bed, and even the clothes in the wardrobe were still hanging neatly—though covered in a layer of dust and carrying a stale scent.
It was as if she hadn’t been exiled abroad, but had simply gone on a long trip.
Everything had been deliberately preserved, like a constant reminder of where she once stood.
Too exhausted to dwell on it, she collapsed onto the bed and quickly fell into a deep sleep, using rest to fight off the overwhelming jet lag.
She didn’t know how long she had slept when there was a soft knock on the door.
“Second Miss, dinner is ready.”
Yu Mianzhou opened her eyes. The sky outside the window had already turned completely dark.
When she went downstairs, Gu Wanlan had surprisingly returned.
She was sitting on the living room sofa with Jiang Yingqiu, discussing something.
“Zhi Zhi didn’t like that designer’s drafts. We plan to visit the wedding dress shop under the Jiang Corporation tomorrow,” Gu Wanlan said gently.
Jiang Yingqiu held her teacup and replied calmly, “The wedding is only a little over a month away. These things need to be finalized quickly.”
As she spoke, she glanced at Jiang Zhi, who was flipping through a magazine nearby, with a hint of reproach. “Look at you, always going on business trips recently. Couldn’t you have taken leave from the orchestra? Everything is so rushed now. This wedding represents the reputation of both our families. There cannot be a single mistake.”
Jiang Zhi acted as if she hadn’t heard, her fingertips sliding across the glossy pages.
Gu Wanlan looked a bit distressed and quickly said, “Don’t worry, Aunt Jiang. I’ll take care of everything. Let Zhi Zhi rest for a while.”
Then she turned her head, saw Yu Mianzhou coming down the stairs, and immediately smiled while waving her over. “Mianzhou meimei, come eat.”
Jiang Yingqiu’s gaze also swept over, neither cold nor warm.
She had clearly already heard about Gu Wanlan inviting Yu Mianzhou to the wedding. Since one of the main figures of the wedding had extended the invitation, it wouldn’t look good for her to refuse.
This was also a good opportunity to see Yu Mianzhou’s true attitude.
At the dinner table, Gu Wanlan and Jiang Yingqiu did most of the talking, covering wedding preparations and the guest list. The atmosphere was not particularly lively, but not cold either.
Yu Mianzhou ate quietly, her presence barely noticeable.
After dinner, Jiang Yingqiu went upstairs with Gu Wanlan and Jiang Zhi.
Just as Yu Mianzhou was about to get up, Yu Shu grabbed her arm.
“Mianzhou, come with Mom.”
Yu Shu pulled her down onto the living room sofa. The moment she sat down, she caught a very faint scent. Her eyes suddenly lit up with intense excitement. “Mianzhou, have you undergone secondary differentiation?!”
The incense in the ancestral hall during the day had been too strong, so she hadn’t noticed it earlier.
Now, a light mint fragrance lingered in the air. It was faint, almost blending into the surroundings, yet it had an undeniable presence.
Cool and refreshing, like mint leaves unfurled by the wind in morning mist, carrying a slight natural bitterness that spread gently.
As she spoke, Yu Shu excitedly reached out to check the back of Yu Mianzhou’s neck—
If Mianzhou had really differentiated into an Alpha or Omega, her value to the Jiang family would skyrocket!
Over ninety percent of people in the country were Betas. Alphas and Omegas together only made up thirty percent of the population!
Even if Mianzhou differentiated into an Omega, she would be a huge asset to the Jiang family. If she was lucky enough to become the rarer Alpha…
The skin on the back of Yu Mianzhou’s neck tightened subconsciously. The mint scent in the air suddenly turned sharp, like an ice blade hidden in its sheath.
She didn’t dodge. She simply said calmly, “I didn’t undergo secondary differentiation. I just sprayed on some perfume.”
Yu Shu’s hand froze in mid-air.
She looked up at her daughter’s expression.
Yu Mianzhou was always like this—her face cold and indifferent, making it impossible to guess what she was thinking. Even the look in her eyes when she faced her own mother often carried a trace of chill.
Yet it was precisely this extremely indifferent demeanor that made people inclined to believe her words.
The light in Yu Shu’s eyes dimmed at an astonishing speed. She sounded reluctant to accept it. “R-really?”
She had failed to become the official Madam of the Jiang family for three years. With no other abilities or assets, she desperately hoped her daughter would differentiate into a rare A or O.
That scent felt so alive, carrying the natural warmth of a living being.
What kind of perfume could produce such an effect?
Disappointed, Yu Shu picked up a stack of documents from the coffee table and spread them out in front of Yu Mianzhou.
They were all photos and profiles of young women.
“Look, these are all the ones Mom picked for you. Clean family backgrounds, all Betas like you.” Yu Shu didn’t lower her voice, but her tone was urgent. “You’re not getting any younger. Don’t aim too high. Pick one quickly and Mom will arrange a meeting for you.”
The thin stack of papers felt like a net, wrapping tightly around Yu Mianzhou until she could barely breathe.
She had known that the moment she returned to the country, she would face endless scrutiny and testing from the Jiang family.
She also knew that Jiang Yingqiu, who had supposedly gone upstairs, had not returned to her room. At this moment, she was standing on the second-floor corridor, looking down from above.
Yu Shu deliberately chose to say this in the open living room instead of in the bedroom so the Jiang family could see everything clearly.
Even after she had made such a vicious oath, these people still didn’t believe her.
Many gazes swept over from all directions—some from servants, perhaps some from other Jiang family members. She couldn’t tell who was who.
“Mianzhou, what are you waiting for? Hurry up and choose!” Seeing that she wasn’t moving, Yu Shu shoved the documents directly into her hands.
Choose?
Yu Mianzhou thought: Did she even have the right to choose?
The gaze behind her was filled with scrutiny.
“No need.”
Yu Mianzhou finally spoke. Her breathing was slightly heavy and suppressed.
She pushed the stack of documents away.
Under the oppressive feeling of that gaze that seemed intent on piercing through her, she said clearly, word by word:
“I already have a girlfriend abroad.”
“Her flight arrives tonight. She’ll be here tomorrow.”
