A Fishing-Type Omega Always Wants to Possess Me - Chapter 8
This was the first time Yu Mianzhou had received two text messages from that stalker in one day.
Even through the screen, she could feel the other person’s furious frustration.
Yu Mianzhou frowned and stared at the photo, coldly studying it.
When her gaze fell on the collarbone, it paused there for two seconds, and for some reason, her breathing grew a little heavier.
At that exact moment, Joyce’s message popped up, asking if she could accompany her tomorrow to meet the head of a studio.
Yu Mianzhou switched screens and replied, Okay.
After replying, she casually sent a message in the Tianji founders’ work group:
[From now on, when there are outsiders around, don’t call me Elowen.]
The people in the group were all partners of many years. With tacit understanding, none of them asked anything. One by one, they quickly replied, Received.
After finishing that, Yu Mianzhou switched back to the text message page.
Her fingertip hovered over the screen. Without the slightest hesitation, just like at noon, she deleted the text and photo completely.
Early the next morning, only Yu Shu was in the dining room.
“Morning, Xiao Zhou.” Yu Shu watched Yu Mianzhou sit down, then suddenly spoke in a gentle voice. “Oh right, that partner of yours… when exactly are you bringing her back for Mom to see?”
Yu Mianzhou’s hand paused as she spread jam.
“I’ll ask her today. It just so happens that I’m going out with her today—”
Before she could finish speaking, she felt a cold, damp gaze slowly rising like something from the depths of a well.
That gaze crawled up from the tips of her shoes, sticky and slow, carrying a wet chill like waterweed wrapping around her ankles.
Finally, it clung to the side of her neck, as if considering where to bite in order to kill in one strike.
Seeing Jiang Zhi walk over, Yu Shu immediately forgot what her daughter had just said. She hurriedly stood up with a smile.
“Zhizhi, you woke up so early today. Hurry and have breakfast.”
She eagerly poured Jiang Zhi a cup of black coffee.
Jiang Zhi sat down, her gaze falling nowhere in particular.
“Add sugar.”
Yu Shu froze for a moment.
Jiang Zhi had always ignored her before. Although she never gave Yu Shu a pleasant expression, she had never been as cold as she was today. Her whole body carried an eerie chill that made her difficult to approach.
And besides, hadn’t Jiang Zhi always taken her coffee without sugar?
Yu Shu’s gaze swept around the dining table. The sugar cube jar happened to be right beside Yu Mianzhou.
Yu Mianzhou also raised her eyes and noticed the sugar jar in front of her.
Yu Shu immediately became embarrassed.
If she asked Yu Mianzhou to pass it, she felt it would be inappropriate. But if she did not ask Yu Mianzhou to pass it, that would seem… very strange.
Every time something like this happened, she could not help feeling a little resentful toward Yu Mianzhou. Back then, why had she made things so stiff?
Just as she was about to call a servant over, Yu Mianzhou had already swallowed her last sip of milk.
She pressed down on the lid of the sugar cube jar, stood, walked to Jiang Zhi’s side, and set the jar down.
With a clank, the sound was especially jarring in the silent dining room.
Yu Mianzhou did not even look at Jiang Zhi. She turned to Yu Shu and said, “Mom, I’m going to work.”
Yu Mianzhou met Joyce at the agreed intersection.
As soon as Joyce saw her, she smiled brilliantly and handed over the iced tea in her hand.
“Your favorite brand. Sugar-free.”
The two walked into the office building together. Yu Mianzhou said helplessly, “Just say what you want. Don’t try to flatter me.”
Sure enough, Joyce could not hold it in. Her eyes sparkled as she asked, “Didn’t you say you were going to bring me back to meet your mom? When are we going?”
Yu Mianzhou saw through her at once.
“You want to go see Jiang Zhi, don’t you?”
“Aiya, you found me out.” Joyce was not embarrassed at all. Instead, her smile grew even brighter. “Jiang Zhi is half my idol. What’s wrong with wanting to see her? Besides, isn’t liking Jiang Zhi only human nature? You have no idea how amazing the videos of her performances are. That figure, that face, and those hands…”
“What a pity she already has a fiancée. If I were an Alpha, I would definitely kneel and beg her to marry me. You have such a wonderful older sister. You must have accumulated blessings in your previous life…”
Yu Mianzhou’s consciousness grew a little hazy again as memories barged brutally into her mind.
Three years ago, Songcheng had experienced its hottest summer in nearly a decade. The sun was so poisonous it felt like it could evaporate a person.
She and Jiang Zhi had hidden in the airtight attic, like two numb trapped beasts, tightly entangled.
Jiang Zhi had been drenched in sweat, all kinds of fluids mixed together, sticky and slick, yet she had still guided Yu Mianzhou’s hand slowly over her waist, her abdomen, her chest, and finally pressed it against her slender neck.
Those hands, born to play the cello and praised by countless people as beautiful, had tightly clasped Yu Mianzhou’s wrist like that, urging her to use more strength.
Yu Mianzhou could feel the scorching heat beneath her palm, almost melting her whole body.
She had never wanted so badly to tear a person apart and swallow them into her stomach.
Sunlight fell through the window in silhouettes, fully exposing Jiang Zhi’s slightly parted lips and faint panting. The slight suffocation made her eyes look even more like glass covered in a layer of mist.
How could she not know?
No one knew better than her.
Yu Mianzhou pulled back her thoughts and said to Joyce, “You really want to meet my mom? The place I’m living in right now is dangerous.”
Joyce’s mind was full of excitement over seeing Jiang Zhi. She had no energy to think about why Yu Mianzhou did not say “my home,” but instead used such a long description.
She only assumed Yu Mianzhou was afraid her family would not approve. With a bit of rich young lady pride, she said, “You’re afraid your mom won’t be satisfied with me? Don’t worry. Isn’t it just pretending to be your girlfriend? It’s not like I haven’t done plenty of things like this over the years. You can trust my acting.”
“The dangerous one isn’t my mom,” Yu Mianzhou said.
Joyce froze. She had just been about to ask what else could be dangerous when the elevator doors opened with a ding.
The design company’s manager was already waiting at the entrance and warmly welcomed them inside.
Yu Mianzhou and Joyce had come today to design a humanoid image for their company’s AI, Lingxi.
Tianji Technology had extremely high requirements for Lingxi’s image. Not only did they need to design a unique appearance, they also had to find a professional model for holographic motion capture, striving to make Lingxi infinitely close to a real person when projected as a hologram.
Both sides repeatedly discussed and revised the proposal. Before they knew it, it was already noon.
The designer handed the final proposal to Joyce.
Joyce was not especially fluent in Hua language yet. Seeing several awkward professional terms, she was just about to turn and ask Yu Mianzhou when Yu Mianzhou’s phone on the table suddenly vibrated.
It was an unknown number.
Yu Mianzhou glanced at it and directly declined the call.
She took the proposal and had not even read two lines when that number called again.
She declined it again.
The third time, the phone stubbornly rang once more.
Joyce could not help saying, “Why don’t you answer it first?”
Yu Mianzhou pressed her lips together and answered the call. A gentle yet unfamiliar female voice came from the receiver.
“Second Miss, Eldest Miss has been punished by Madam and sent to the confinement room again.”
“She has already knelt inside for the entire morning. Now the time is up, but the door to the confinement room won’t open.”
Hearing this, Yu Mianzhou’s brow twitched heavily. Her eyes went empty for an instant before her voice cooled.
“You shouldn’t be telling me this.”
The voice on the other end remained unhurried.
“Miss Gu is busy with work and cannot be reached. If Second Miss has time, could we trouble you to come back? If you return, perhaps Eldest Miss will be willing to come out.”
After saying that, the other person did not wait for her answer and took the initiative to hang up.
Yu Mianzhou held the phone, her brows knitting even tighter.
She did not know whether she was angry that she was the backup option when Gu Wanlan could not be contacted, or angry that Jiang Zhi clearly knew what would happen if she went back.
She did not like this feeling of being forced.
Perhaps her expression after hanging up was too grave, because Joyce leaned over and asked quietly, “What’s wrong? Is there an emergency at your house?”
“It’s nothing.” Yu Mianzhou put down her phone. The screen went dark, reflecting her bloodless face.
After saying that, she fell silent for a few seconds. In the end, she lowered her eyes and tapped on Gu Wanlan’s profile. Last night, after dinner, while they were waiting for Jiang Zhi to drive over, Gu Wanlan had taken the initiative to add her contact information.
After sending Gu Wanlan a message, she placed her phone face-down on the table and picked up the proposal in her hands, as if nothing just now had happened.
The proposal still had to be brought back for the others at the company to revise. The other party’s person in charge warmly invited the two of them to stay for lunch, choosing a cha chaan teng downstairs from the company.
As soon as they sat down, the server poured each of them a cup of hot tea.
Boom—
A muffled thunderclap suddenly sounded outside the window. The person in charge looked up at the gray sky and sighed, “Ah, June weather really changes whenever it wants. Why is it suddenly about to rain?”
Hearing that it was about to rain, Yu Mianzhou’s movement of picking up her teacup stopped.
She thought of Jiang Zhi again.
She did not know what things had been like before, but from the time she arrived at the Jiang family, Jiang Zhi had spent no less time in the confinement room than in her own room.
Yu Mianzhou had seen that room.
Cold, damp, without a single window. When the door was shut, not even a sliver of light could enter.
It was under such restraint, beneath Jiang Yingqiu’s strict gaze, that Jiang Zhi had grown into a proper, flawless young lady of a prestigious family.
A standard heir.
But because she had knelt on the cold floor for years, her knees were not very good.
Especially on rainy days.
Yu Mianzhou looked at the tea leaves floating and sinking in her cup. Before her eyes, she uncontrollably saw Jiang Zhi from the past, pale-faced and curled up in her arms, softly asking her to rub her knees.
She clearly hated that confinement room so much.
“Why…” Yu Mianzhou unconsciously murmured to herself.
“Hm?” The server beside her did not hear clearly and asked with a smile, “Miss, what did you say? I was asking what you’d like to eat.”
Yu Mianzhou returned to her senses and casually pointed at two dishes on the menu.
The phone on the table vibrated again. It was a message from Gu Wanlan.
[Sorry, Mianzhou. I saw your message, but I have a very important meeting today and really can’t leave. Could I… trouble you to go back and check on her first?]
Trouble her?
Yu Mianzhou almost immediately typed a line into the chat box:
[She’s your fiancée. You don’t even have this much time?]
After typing it, she felt it was absurd and deleted it word by word.
Then she asked:
[Are you sure?]
She deleted it again.
Suddenly, she let out a cold laugh and placed the phone face-down on the table.
Everyone at the table noticed that something was obviously wrong with her. Joyce wanted to ask, but seeing her face as cold as ice, she swallowed her words back down.
Boom!
Another thunderclap exploded across the sky. Pale lightning instantly lit up Yu Mianzhou’s face.
Something spread in ripples through the depths of her eyes.
Her emotions were like a spring compressed to the limit by an external force. Finally, they rebounded out of control.
Yu Mianzhou picked up the car keys on the table and abruptly stood.
“Sorry, I won’t be eating with you,” she said, her voice carrying no emotion. She left only one sentence behind.
“I have something urgent. I need to go home.”
