A Rich Family’s Matrilocal Alpha Married to a Vegetative Omega - Chapter 11
Ye Fan couldn’t say for sure, but she knew one thing—
“One must have hope. The world is fickle, but heaven never blocks every path.”
Just like now; if the person Ye Fan had encountered wasn’t Qin Shujian, and if she couldn’t communicate with the slumbering woman, she didn’t even dare to imagine what her life would look like.
But none of that happened. Instead, she now had a comrade-in-arms.
For Ye Fan, this was lucky enough. As for Qin Shujian… Ye Fan thought about it and cheekily leaned in.
“Don’t you think that meeting me is actually a very hopeful thing too?”
To meet is to draw the best possible lot.
The voice from the other side went quiet. Ye Fan turned her head to look; the sleeping Qin Shujian seemed to have no reaction at all, but Ye Fan knew she had taken the words to heart.
Ye Fan’s eyes crinkled. Suddenly, she began rummaging around, pretending to be busy.
Within a few minutes, Qin Shujian couldn’t help herself and took the initiative to ask: “…What are you looking for?”
The heavy moment from before seemed to be skimmed over just like that, but Ye Fan felt their relationship had grown invisibly closer. She coughed lightly and pulled out an old movie disc, her tone pleasantly surprised: “I can’t believe I found this film. I thought no one here would watch something like this.”
Since this was a book world, Ye Fan hadn’t expected to see a familiar name. She was lost in thought for a moment until Qin Shujian asked for the title.
Ye Fan answered truthfully. Qin Shujian paused for a moment before saying: “…No impression of it. Are you sure you found it in my bedroom?”
“Well… it’s not like I can conjure things out of thin air, can I?”
Ye Fan followed Qin Shujian’s lead in doubting herself, but the disc in her hand was solid; there were no signs of it vanishing.
She tilted her head and suddenly took Qin Shujian’s hand, saying with a smile: “Perfect. Since you haven’t seen it, watch it with me. I really like this comedy; I guarantee it’s funny and fun~”
This was her way of saying she didn’t care where it came from. Qin Shujian let out a soft sigh and didn’t mind, nodding her agreement.
Ye Fan was delighted. Even though she knew Qin Shujian couldn’t see, she excitedly went to play the movie. With the familiar intro and characters, Ye Fan had actually rewatched it many times, but she still found herself immersed every time.
Originally, she wanted to recommend it to Qin Shujian so they could enjoy it together. In the end, it was Ye Fan who was doubled over laughing at the film, while Qin Shujian couldn’t even hear the movie’s audio—she only heard Ye Fan’s laughter.
Qin Shujian didn’t know whether to laugh or cry, yet she didn’t interrupt to remind her. She just listened quietly, thinking about that extremely ambiguous word: “Lucky.”
Lucky?
It was indeed lucky. When she first discovered that Ye Fan could hear her voice, Qin Shujian hadn’t been able to maintain her composure at all.
She had considered many possibilities, even wondering if this was a new conspiracy. But so what? In a way, they were both “lost souls at the edge of the world.” Did that word “lucky” really only refer to their meeting?
Qin Shujian’s heart stirred. she didn’t want to say much; just listening to Ye Fan’s joy and laughter was quite nice—she never thought she would have such a peaceful day.
When the movie ended, Ye Fan was still craving more. She reluctantly turned off the projector and began discussing the plot with Qin Shujian.
Heaven knows Qin Shujian hadn’t followed a single plot point, so how could she respond? She simply played along vaguely and shifted the topic to the flower shop.
That flower shop was the escape route Qin Shujian had prepared for herself. She thought the day she’d need it would never come, but she hadn’t expected it to arrive so quickly.
She had underestimated the possibility of an accident back then. If it weren’t for Ye Fan, she wouldn’t have the ability to restart this fallback plan now.
Thinking of this, Qin Shujian’s voice turned serious as she asked about the characteristics of the girl at the flower shop. This left Ye Fan bewildered. She asked in confusion: “…You didn’t say anything back then. If you’re asking for descriptions now, I only remember she was in a wheelchair; I don’t recall much else. If I gave it to the wrong person, I can’t exactly rush back and take the note back, can I?”
Qin Shujian was rarely at a loss for words, but she felt a bit choked up. She laughed helplessly: “It’s just to be safe, just a confirmation. You didn’t give it to the wrong person.”
Ye Fan breathed a sigh of relief. Thinking of those few lines, she couldn’t help but complain: “What does that sentence even mean?” It sounded overly “artsy” and a bit like sentimental whining. Ye Fan was too embarrassed to say the last part aloud.
Qin Shujian seemed to see through her thoughts. A laugh escaped her voice as she said helplessly: “A friend wrote that. I don’t quite understand the meaning either. If you’re curious, go to the flower shop again in a few days and you’ll find out.”
“Sounds like more legwork,” Ye Fan muttered. “Alright, enough talk. Sleep, sleep. I’ll think about it tomorrow.”
However, Ye Fan didn’t go out the next day. Qin Shujian suggested she stay low for a few days so the Qin family wouldn’t sense anything was wrong. Ye Fan thought about it, agreed, and didn’t leave the house.
But after dinner, Ye Fan huddled in the hall, not daring to go back to the bedroom. The doctor had just injected her with the pheromone stimulant at noon.
Normally it would be fine—after a few days of adjusting, Ye Fan could handle the large needle. But the side effects…
Actually, Ye Fan had adapted to those too. She could now suppress the heat. But what if, like yesterday, her uncontrollable pheromones induced Qin Shujian?
After thinking it over, Ye Fan felt it was better for Qin Shujian if she stayed outside, to avoid stimulating her.
But don’t forget, Housekeeper Su was still out there watching her.
Seeing that she refused to go back, Su Yu drifted over and said in a faint voice: “Miss Ye Fan, it’s time to go back and care for the Eldest Miss.”
…Sometimes Ye Fan truly wondered if they knew or not.
If she went in now, that wouldn’t be “care.” Qin Shujian would probably want to slice her in half. Ye Fan wasn’t some scumbag woman looking to take advantage, so naturally, she didn’t want to strike while the iron was hot.
However, Housekeeper Su’s gaze was as cold as a blade. Ye Fan couldn’t quite withstand it and scurried back into the room.
Once inside, she stood by the door, not daring to take a single step toward Qin Shujian.
Qin Shujian was confused. She had clearly heard the sound of Ye Fan entering, so why was there no sound now?
She tentatively called Ye Fan’s name a few times. Unknowingly, hearing her name called made Ye Fan’s heart surge with inexplicable emotion. She couldn’t believe she was so easily moved; for a moment, her face burned even hotter.
Unwilling to let Qin Shujian think she was a hooligan, Ye Fan gritted her teeth and rushed out the door again, grabbing the suppressant she had found earlier and bringing it back.
On the other side, Su Yu didn’t see clearly what Ye Fan was doing. Thinking she was trying to escape, she was about to call the bodyguards when Ye Fan voluntarily returned to the room.
Su Yu was full of question marks. Though puzzled, she gave up on pursuing it and simply told the bodyguards to pay more attention to the movements around the bedroom.
Inside the bedroom, Ye Fan wanted to rush into the bathroom the moment she returned. But the confused Qin Shujian directly stopped her, asking: “What’s wrong? Did Su Yu make things difficult for you? Where are you going in such a hurry?”
Her speaking speed was rarely fast; she sounded genuinely worried. Ye Fan’s movements paused. Not knowing how to explain, she coughed twice and asked: “…Do you feel anything unusual?”
While asking, Ye Fan was thinking: if Qin Shujian didn’t feel anything unusual, maybe she didn’t need to take the suppressant?
Ye Fan was still very afraid of needles. She wasn’t at the point of fainting, but fear was fear; if she could avoid it, she would.
Unfortunately, Qin Shujian paused after hearing this.
That brief silence made Ye Fan hug the suppressant in her arms tighter out of fear. She couldn’t care about anything else and could only say hurriedly: “It’s nothing! I’m going to the bathroom to inject the suppressant now. Don’t worry, it’ll be over soon!”
She started running toward the bathroom, but then Qin Shujian sighed. “What’s the rush? Don’t you know the side effects of suppressants?”
Ye Fan froze. As a transmigrator, how could she possibly know what the side effects of pheromone suppressants were?
She only knew that the stimulant was truly inhumane. Ye Fan felt a wave of heat surging through her whole body; it looked like she was about to lose her sanity. Ye Fan was confident she could control herself, but how was she supposed to control the pheromones?
This was completely beyond the information stockpile of a transmigrator!
