A Rich Family’s Matrilocal Alpha Married to a Vegetative Omega - Chapter 12
Ye Fan was at a complete loss. Qin Shujian spoke up again: “Using stimulants while injecting suppressants—anyone can guess that’s bad for the body.”
“Then what should I do?” Ye Fan asked, feeling conflicted.
Her treatment had finally started showing results. If Su Yu and the others discovered she was secretly using suppressants at the same time, Qin Wan would likely drag out the contract to lecture her again. Yet, Ye Fan couldn’t just stand by and watch Qin Shujian suffer.
She couldn’t state her concerns too bluntly, so Ye Fan spoke euphemistically: “If I can’t control it, wouldn’t you…?”
Qin Shujian fell silent for a long while—but then, what reaction could a person in a vegetative state really have?
Just as Ye Fan was feeling a bit disappointed and was pondering whether to just take another suppressant shot anyway, the voice from the other side trembled. It seemed as though she had made a monumental decision.
“…You,” Qin Shujian said, “can give me a kiss.”
Ye Fan was stunned, unable to believe what she had just heard. She only managed to let out a single syllable: “Huh?”
“What do you mean, ‘huh’?” Qin Shujian’s voice sounded a bit like she was exploding with embarrassment. “I-I’m just giving you a chance for a temporary mark…”
“If you don’t want to, then forget it!”
With that, there was no more sound from the other side. It took Ye Fan a long time to react and realize that the rules for marking were indeed like this.
Realizing this, Ye Fan felt an inexplicable sense of disappointment. In her eyes, the word “mark” felt neutral leaning toward cold—it seemed like just a mundane solution. That was probably why Qin Shujian had proposed it so naturally…
Ye Fan pursed her lips. She knew that the best way to prevent a heat cycle was a temporary mark. She tried hard to convince herself: This is normal, it’s just a temporary mark; this way, I can control the pheromones.
But as she looked up and saw Qin Shujian’s face—serene as a sleeping beauty—Ye Fan’s breath hitched, and her mind instantly became a tangled mess.
She couldn’t find a single example of marking behavior in the original owner’s memories. Ye Fan could only carefully cup Qin Shujian’s face and slowly lean in.
The scent unique to an Omega rushed into her nose. The moment Ye Fan’s lips touched that softness, her vision blurred as if fireworks had exploded. Her body felt as though it had been injected with adrenaline; the heat that was already stirring took the opportunity to surge again. In a panic, Ye Fan turned and rushed into the bathroom.
But before she left, she gently laid Qin Shujian back down. Separated by a door, Ye Fan didn’t see that a faint blush had surfaced on the face of the “vegetative” woman on the bed, who shouldn’t have had any reaction at all.
To an outsider, it might have looked like a symptom of the induced heat, but only Qin Shujian knew that her heart was racing because of that one kiss.
Her body was still slightly warm, but with the Alpha’s comfort, that burning sensation receded. For the first time, Qin Shujian discovered that this feeling was actually warm and gentle. It was… actually quite nice?
The thought was too embarrassing to say out loud. Qin Shujian didn’t bother to urge Ye Fan out of the bathroom. In an act of self-deception, she murmured to herself: “It’s late, I should go to sleep too…”
She wanted to show concern for Ye Fan and tell her not to inject suppressants anymore, but upon reflection, she felt she didn’t have the standing to say such things.
So, she simply stopped talking.
Inside the bathroom, Ye Fan actually heard that sentence. Her door wasn’t fully closed; she was leaning her face against the edge of the cold sink with sheer willpower.
Qin Shujian’s voice drifted through the crack in the door, sounding faintly bashful and a bit ethereal. So… she actually felt something too, right? It wasn’t just her who was excited by that kiss, was it?
Ye Fan cupped her face and giggled silently. Her heart felt as sweet as if she had eaten honey, but she strictly restrained herself from showing it.
The burning heat of the pheromones slowly receded, yet the feeling of ambiguity remained.
Ye Fan washed her face and lay back on the bed. She closed her eyes as if to sleep, but her gaze kept drifting toward Qin Shujian beside her. Eventually, she didn’t even know when she drifted off.
The next morning, the two acted as if nothing had happened. Ye Fan continued to ramble on for long periods. To outsiders, she was just talking to herself; sometimes when Su Yu passed the door, the housekeeper would give her a subtle, complicated look.
Fortunately, the Qin family was well-bred. Even if they found Ye Fan’s behavior bizarre, Housekeeper Su at most just asked the doctor to check on her.
Once she discovered that Ye Fan was likely just a chatterbox, Housekeeper Su stopped caring much.
Taking advantage of this opportunity, Ye Fan secured a second trip outside. This time, Qin Shujian didn’t ask her to write anything, only instructed: “If the shop owner brings a Beta named Wei Xing who tries to test you with questions, answer her as completely as possible.”
Ye Fan nodded repeatedly. She grew more curious, and a thought suddenly struck her: “What about our relationship… like this mind-reading thing? Can I choose not to say anything?”
Qin Shujian’s voice paused, then she gave a light laugh. “If you don’t want to say it, then don’t.”
It was clearly just a lighthearted remark, yet it seemed to carry a hint of pampering. Ye Fan’s heart trembled. She stammered a few nonsensical words and fled the room in a daze.
Once outside, as the wind blew, Ye Fan patted her cheeks, silently calming herself down. She muttered that she couldn’t be this shy in the future.
While mumbling, Ye Fan unknowingly arrived at the flower shop. This time she saw things more clearly: the girl was in the hall trimming flower branches. The stems piled on the steps were growing wildly; the woman sat in her wheelchair, clipping branches and occasionally adjusting her height with the chair.
Ye Fan knocked on the doorframe and called out, “I’m here to buy flowers. But, do you need any help?”
At the sound, the girl turned back in surprise. Seeing it was Ye Fan, she smiled but declined: “No need. Please look around, guest, and pick whatever you like.”
After speaking, she turned her wheelchair as if to leave. Ye Fan was puzzled and was about to chase after her to ask about the note when a woman with brown hair stepped out from the side.
Actually, Ye Fan still didn’t know how to distinguish between the three genders in this world. The locals seemed able to identify Alphas, Omegas, or Betas at a single glance.
Ye Fan maintained a strong curiosity about this ability, but the moment this person appeared, she finally got a clue.
If she wasn’t mistaken, this person was a Beta.
There was no other reason; it was just a gut feeling. The first moment Ye Fan saw her, she felt a bit unaccustomed.
It was because this person felt like a “blank space.” Setting aside the pheromones used to distinguish threat levels, Ye Fan suspected that if they weren’t in a cramped flower shop but on a busy street, she might not even notice such a person passing by.
She had… almost no presence.
Ye Fan’s eyes widened. she instinctively wondered if this Beta was the one Qin Shujian had mentioned, but she didn’t dare be too certain.
The Beta opposite her looked indifferent. She walked over, patted the girl beside her, asked something, and then looked at Ye Fan.
Ye Fan moved a bit further away out of politeness. She only saw the girl nod. Ye Fan blinked again, this time locking eyes with the Beta. The Beta smiled at her and suddenly introduced herself: “Hello, I am Wei Xing. This is my sister, Wei Rou.”
This, this, this… does this mean I found the right person?
Ye Fan suppressed her joy and didn’t speak, only showing a hint of confusion to look innocent. Wei Xing looked at her and pulled out a bookmark.
It was exactly the one Ye Fan had “accidentally” left behind.
Needless to say, the situation was clear. Ye Fan’s eyes lit up, and she followed Wei Xing into the back hall.
The younger sister didn’t pay any mind and went back to trimming her flowers.
By the time Ye Fan came out again, she had gained a significant amount of information. It turned out Wei Xing was Qin Shujian’s capable assistant and highly trusted. However, after Qin Shujian’s car accident, she had been forced out of her core position.
Wei Xing had assumed it was just a normal power transition—until her sister, Wei Rou, handed her the bookmark. Only then did Wei Xing realize something was wrong with Qin Shujian.
Seeing that the person who came wasn’t Qin Shujian herself, Wei Xing’s calm expression hid a deep unease. She repeatedly pressed Ye Fan: “Is the Eldest Miss under house arrest?”
Ye Fan could only say, “Her freedom… is indeed restricted.”
Given her previous considerations, Ye Fan couldn’t possibly say she was telepathic with Qin Shujian, so she could only fudge the details. Fortunately, Wei Xing didn’t suspect much; instead, she worried whether Ye Fan would be exposed.
Ye Fan shook her head. She had already established her cover when she left: she was going to pick out some flowers properly for Qin Shujian.
The housekeeper was delighted that Ye Fan was so attentive to the Eldest Miss, so she naturally approved and even told the bodyguards not to follow her inside. Although for the deep-scheming Housekeeper Su, her words usually had to be taken with a grain of salt, the bodyguards really didn’t follow her in.
Hearing this, Wei Xing didn’t feel much more at ease. She just asked in a heavy voice: “Then let’s be quick. What are the Eldest Miss’s thoughts?”
As the only one who knew what Qin Shujian was thinking, Ye Fan felt a small surge of pride. She raised an eyebrow and said: “Your Eldest Miss doesn’t want to have a child, but Madam Qin is forcing her. She hopes you can plan as quickly as possible to find a way to take her away from the Qin house, so the Madam can’t force a pregnancy.”
Wei Xing was slightly surprised, seemingly puzzled as to how Qin Shujian had fallen into such a predicament. Ye Fan suddenly worried she would ask too many questions and became nervous.
Fortunately, Wei Xing only paused for a moment before nodding. She instructed Ye Fan: “I will go prepare for this. Thank you for your help this time. Please continue to pass messages in the future and try not to show any flaws. I will find a way as soon as possible. Once a solution is ready, I will try to contact you.”
Even though she didn’t know what Wei Xing’s plan was, Ye Fan guessed her part was done for now.
She simply nodded. As she left, she happened to run into Wei Rou.
