A Scum Alpha Tool Character's Code of Conduct - Chapter 5
After impulsively choosing to do tandem skydiving with An Lingqing, Wen Jiao suddenly felt a little shy.
As an Alpha, she was supposed to be confident and proactive. But the moment she remembered her identity as cannon fodder, she immediately shrank back into cowardice.
“Are you scared?”
Leaning close to An Lingqing’s ear, Wen Jiao whispered softly.
Unfortunately, something embarrassing happened.
The simple-minded Wen Jiao forgot she was still wearing a microphone.
As a result, her “quiet whisper” was broadcast directly to everyone at full volume.
The smile on An Lingqing’s face finally collapsed.
Expressionless, she stared at the enlarged face leaning toward her and, for the first time, felt that being good-looking alone wasn’t necessarily a blessing.
Remembering to bring one’s brain when leaving the house was much more important.
Wen Jiao also realized that her private question had become a public announcement.
Immediately sitting upright, she adopted a cold expression, as though the words had never come out of her mouth.
Fortunately, she didn’t have time to dwell on her embarrassment.
It was their turn to jump.
As they prepared to leave the helicopter, An Lingqing grabbed the harness straps and openly rested her head against Wen Jiao’s shoulder.
The safety personnel behind them checked their equipment.
Wen Jiao suddenly realized that if she lowered her head slightly, she could kiss the top of An Lingqing’s hair.
Her accelerating heartbeat made it impossible to tell whether her nervousness came from the distance between the sky and the earth…
Or from the warmth of another person seeping through their thin clothing.
Gripping the cabin door tightly with both hands, Wen Jiao felt her throat go dry.
She didn’t know whether An Lingqing, who was afraid of heights, was currently frightened.
She wanted to find something to talk about to ease her nerves.
Unfortunately, her mind was completely blank.
“Don’t worry. I’m really good at skydiving. I’ll make sure you land safely.”
Although she was saying comforting words, her brain had already stopped functioning.
Warm breath brushed against her ear.
Without Wen Jiao noticing, An Lingqing’s ears had already turned bright red.
“We’re about to jump.”
Wen Jiao reminded her softly.
Then she released her grip, spread her arms, and arched her body backward.
From above, their landing zone was located near the edge of a forest.
Normally, Wen Jiao loved looking down at the earth from great heights.
Yet now she had started stuttering.
“D-Don’t be scared. Just relax. Can you see the camera? That’s the thing you’re most familiar with.”
An Lingqing slowly opened her tightly shut eyes.
Following Wen Jiao’s instructions almost instinctively, she quickly found the camera and reflexively revealed a perfect smile.
As a celebrity, An Lingqing demanded the highest level of professionalism from herself.
Even at a moment like this, she insisted on showing her best side.
Meanwhile, Wen Jiao carefully calculated their descent altitude and deployed the parachute at exactly the right moment.
She had no idea that on camera she resembled a busy little cat—cold-faced yet somehow inexplicably adorable.
“We’re about to land.”
Even though she knew An Lingqing understood skydiving perfectly well, Wen Jiao couldn’t help reminding her.
“You be careful too.”
An Lingqing replied softly.
Her voice disappeared into the wind.
Once their feet touched the ground, both women were standing on solid earth again.
Wen Jiao immediately took a deep breath.
Then she silently applauded herself like an excited seal.
Successful landing. The heroine looks perfectly fine. This tool character has fulfilled her duty!
Mentally checking another task off her list, Wen Jiao packed up their equipment and handed it to the staff before quietly returning to An Lingqing’s side to wait for her next opportunity to be useful.
“You two finally made it.”
Qi Yujie, the troublemaking Omega, approached.
As usual, nothing good came out of his mouth.
“The person who was afraid of heights looks perfectly fine. I was hoping to hear Miss Wen hit some dolphin-level high notes.”
Wen Jiao glanced at him indifferently.
She couldn’t even be bothered to talk to him.
“Miss Wen, could you show a little Alpha-style gentlemanliness toward Omegas?”
Qi Yujie looked at her with a wounded expression.
Wen Jiao: ?
Still not fully accustomed to the world’s secondary genders, she took two extra seconds to process his words.
Her narrow eyes narrowed slightly, carrying a trace of coldness.
“I only show manners to people I find pleasant.”
After dropping that sentence, she turned and walked away.
This time, Qi Yujie’s fake grievance became genuine grievance.
So angry he nearly exploded, he took several deep breaths before turning to seek support from someone else—namely Su Ze, who had just done tandem skydiving with him.
Su Ze smiled brightly and offered a few words of comfort.
However, he clearly had no intention of confronting Wen Jiao on Qi Yujie’s behalf.
And he calls himself a straightforward Alpha? More like a coward.
Silently cursing Su Ze a few times, Qi Yujie followed everyone else to the first gathering point.
A survival show sounded difficult enough from the name alone.
To ensure that difficulty became reality, the production team decided to start with the very first meal.
“Your first meal will be entirely self-sufficient.”
After dropping that bombshell, the crew members sat down and opened their boxed lunches.
They even made sure all six guests got a clear look at the chicken drumsticks inside.
That was excessive!
Wen Jiao felt like tears were about to flow from the corners of her mouth.
Looking at the sky, it really was lunchtime.
The six participants, possessing neither food nor tools, fell silent for a moment before considering how to become self-sufficient.
“What would you like to eat?”
After pacing in circles twice, Wen Jiao walked directly over to An Lingqing.
Her eyes calmly rested on An Lingqing.
Though they appeared emotionless, An Lingqing somehow felt as if she was being cared for.
When did I become this narcissistic?
Avoiding Wen Jiao’s gaze, An Lingqing looked toward the sea.
Following her line of sight, Wen Jiao immediately came to a conclusion.
Clearly, An Lingqing wanted seafood.
Unfortunately, after carefully examining the ocean twice, Wen Jiao concluded that catching fish without any tools would be somewhat difficult.
But what should one do when faced with difficulties?
Obviously, charge straight at them and overcome them!
As a qualified tool character working to earn the heroine’s favor, she was determined to catch fish today.
Walking away from the smooth beach, she soon found several tidal pools scattered among the rocks.
Tiny fish darted around inside, agile and lively.
Wen Jiao sighed in relief.
As long as there were fish, there was hope.
“You can try using this.”
A sweet voice sounded behind An Lingqing.
Startled, Wen Jiao jumped slightly.
Turning around, she looked at An Lingqing in surprise.
The near-noon sunlight shone brightly upon her fair skin, making her seem wrapped in a halo of light.
She was smiling.
In her slender white fingers was a sharpened bamboo spear.
“Okay.”
Wen Jiao’s cheeks suddenly reddened.
She reached out and accepted the spear.
Then her expression immediately changed.
“You’re hurt?”
Throwing the bamboo spear aside, she grabbed An Lingqing’s hand.
Sure enough, there was a shallow cut across one of her fingers.
Wen Jiao’s heart sank.
She had failed as a tool character.
It was only the first day, and the heroine had already gotten injured.
Feeling guilty, she stared seriously at the tiny wound.
Her already expressionless face appeared even colder.
That coldness caused An Lingqing—who was exceptionally sensitive to emotional changes—to feel a faint surge of irritation.
“It’s just a small injury.”
Pulling her hand back, An Lingqing looked at Wen Jiao’s exquisite profile.
Suddenly, she felt like an idiot.
Why did she always so easily believe that Wen Jiao genuinely cared about her?
Just like now.
An Tianlang and Su Ze also occasionally pretended to care about her.
The difference was that Wen Jiao’s act looked much more convincing.
At this rate, once the show aired, Wen Jiao might genuinely become famous.
Hiding her injured finger behind her back, An Lingqing’s almond-shaped eyes filled with complicated emotions.
“You should probably ask the crew for some disinfectant and a bandage.”
Unaware of why An Lingqing had suddenly become distant, Wen Jiao hesitated before offering the advice anyway.
“This is a survival show. If I go asking the crew for medicine over a tiny scratch, will you take responsibility when everyone criticizes me?”
An Lingqing said with a playful smile.
Seeing that smile return, Wen Jiao felt alarm bells ringing in her head.
That tone.
That expression.
Wasn’t this exactly how An Lingqing treated An Tianlang and Su Ze?
After several seconds of intense self-reflection, Wen Jiao reached a conclusion.
The heroine had probably become unhappy because she was hungry.
After all, hungry people were always easier to irritate.
Completely reasonable.
Satisfied with her diagnosis, Wen Jiao sighed and went off to catch fish.
Meanwhile, An Lingqing watched her straightforwardly head toward the shore.
The smile on her face became even more perfect.
As expected.
All Alphas were the same.
Equally annoying.
Thus, the two women—who were somehow incredibly “in sync”—began walking in completely opposite directions.
“Hmm? Didn’t you bring Miss Wen the fish spear you made? Why didn’t she ask you to stay?”
Zhang Lanyi was sitting on a rock, taking a break.
Her red-painted nails glimmered seductively under the sunlight.
“My fishing skills aren’t very good. I’d only get in the way. So I came back to see if there’s anything else I can help with.”
An Lingqing answered earnestly.
Combined with her obedient expression, she looked both beautiful and adorable.
“Sister Lanyi, what were you doing earlier? Is there anything I can help you with?”
If her previous answer had been defense, this question was her attack.
Zhang Lanyi knew survival shows were difficult.
She just hadn’t expected them to be this difficult.
Apart from Wen Jiao, who had immediately announced she was going fishing and left, the others had begged the production team for ages before finally obtaining three rather dull knives and a water bottle for each person.
Since seawater wasn’t drinkable, and the group would later need to cross the forest to reach the other side of the island, the two Alphas had taken everyone’s empty bottles and gone into the forest searching for fresh water.
As for Qi Yujie, while still an Omega, he possessed more physical strength than most female Omegas and had headed toward the edge of the forest to look for fruit.
As a result, only An Lingqing and Zhang Lanyi currently had nothing to do.
“How exactly are we supposed to start a fire?”
An Lingqing glanced at the utterly relaxed Zhang Lanyi before approaching the crew and asking the most important question.
The staff smiled warmly.
“The weather has been good recently, and there are plenty of dry branches near the forest. Friction fire—rubbing sticks together—is an excellent option.”
Their expression was so friendly that they made starting a fire by friction sound as easy as flicking a lighter.
