A Scumbag Alpha Gets the Simp’s Script - Chapter 29
Yu Jinzhao practically jogged down the stairs. From the fifth floor, she didn’t even wait for the elevator, appearing at the lobby entrance in less than a minute.
Steadying her ragged breathing, she feigned composure. As soon as she stepped out, she saw the familiar car parked by the curb. Stepping quickly, she knocked on the passenger door and slid inside.
Before she had even sat up straight, she flashed a wide grin. “Hehe, I was pretty fast, wasn’t I?”
Pei Daowan smiled and leaned over to help buckle her seatbelt. Her long hair brushed against Yu Jinzhao’s cheek, a mixture of cold fragrance and the clean scent of shampoo.
In an instant, Yu Jinzhao felt the back of her neck grow inexplicably hot. She swallowed hard, her hand instinctively flying to her nape as if trying to suppress some inner restlessness.
Pei Daowan didn’t miss the gesture. Her gaze flickered; after a moment of hesitation, she reached out and pressed her hand directly against Yu Jinzhao’s neck.
In that second, Yu Jinzhao felt all the blood in her body rush to her head. Her neck felt like it was actually burning.
“Pei…”
Pei Daowan’s expression grew solemn. Usually cold when silent, she was now frostier than ever. “Don’t move!”
Yu Jinzhao froze immediately. She could feel Pei Daowan’s fingertips brushing aside her stray hairs, the tactile pressure of fingers against her skin making her feel like she was about to explode.
Pei Daowan seemed to catch a faint scent of mint—like morning dew or a spring breeze. It felt instantly refreshing.
Is this the scent of Yu Jinzhao’s pheromones?
The glands were slightly red and swollen. Has she never had them checked?
The previous beast’s glands had been ruined by her; it was impossible for them to emit that disgusting odor anymore. So, was this current scent coming from Yu Jinzhao herself?
“Have you had your glands checked since you were hospitalized?”
Yu Jinzhao blanked for a moment before realizing what she meant. Though she had crammed knowledge about ABO biology, it didn’t come up much in her daily life. Aside from some swelling and pain the day she arrived, she’d had no major reactions, so she’d almost forgotten about it.
“It didn’t feel like a big deal, so I haven’t been to the hospital.”
“Do you have any idea how swollen your glands are!”
Pei Daowan’s voice was void of emotion, and combined with her expressionless face, she was actually quite intimidating. Yu Jinzhao gave her sleeve a little tug, her voice turning coaxing.
“It’s fine. It doesn’t affect me daily, so I didn’t pay much attention. It just gets a bit hot and swollen occasionally, then it goes away after a while.”
Pei Daowan felt a lump in her throat and a pang of guilt. Ultimately, she blamed herself; she was the one who fed the prohibited drug to the “beast,” ruining the glands. She hadn’t expected Yu Jinzhao to end up in this body.
“Don’t go to work tomorrow. I’m taking you to the hospital to get your glands looked at.”
Yu Jinzhao acted nonchalant. “It’s fine. I didn’t have glands to begin with, so it doesn’t make a difference to me.”
Hearing this, the veins on Pei Daowan’s forehead became visible, her eyes darkening. “Do you realize what it means for an Alpha to have no glands and be unable to release pheromones?”
“I do!”
She certainly knew what it meant in this world, but she wasn’t from here. To her, what difference did it make to have them or not? If she could choose, she’d definitely pick being a Beta—no heat cycles to worry about, no biological constraints.
Pei Daowan was too angry to speak. Her hands gripped the steering wheel tightly. “I don’t think you do!” she said coldly.
This was arguably the first time Pei Daowan had shown such significant anger. In Yu Jinzhao’s memory, she was always lukewarm, occasionally showing a flicker of vulnerability before masking it. Or she was the charismatic, poised professional in a crowd. Now, Yu Jinzhao could clearly see her lips thinned into a sharp line, her knuckles white, her pupils like cracked ice.
“I…”
“I don’t want to hear you speak right now.”
Pei Daowan started the car. The roar of the engine drowned out Yu Jinzhao’s weak protest. She was irritable. Not just at Yu Jinzhao, but at herself. She couldn’t even pin down the exact source of her anger, so she vented it awkwardly on the girl.
Her temples throbbed; she could almost hear the blood rushing against her skull. Though they were in the city, she pushed the speed toward 40. The railings on the side of the street seemed to twist into distorted shapes.
A ten-minute drive was compressed into less than seven. By the time they parked, the lingering anger on Pei Daowan’s face hadn’t dissipated.
Yu Jinzhao wanted to do something, but feared making her angrier. She followed closely behind her, her tall frame looking constrained and cautious, which made Pei Daowan feel a twist of unease in her heart.
Sensing that the atmosphere had softened slightly, Yu Jinzhao boldly grabbed Pei Daowan’s sleeve, her voice sweet: “Good Sister~ Please don’t be angry. I promise I’ll go to the hospital first thing tomorrow morning.”
With a heavy sigh, Pei Daowan finally compromised. She grabbed Yu Jinzhao’s collar somewhat roughly, but her movements turned gentle as she brushed aside the hair at the nape of her neck. She took out a suppressant patch she’d brought from the car and applied it to Yu Jinzhao’s glands.
“This is a suppressant patch. It’s AO-universal. It helps reduce swelling and heat. You need to keep these on you from now on. If your glands feel uncomfortable, put one on immediately and go to the doctor. Do you understand?”
Yu Jinzhao’s eyes sparkled as if she’d been given a reward. No one would have guessed she’d just been given the cold shoulder for the whole drive.
“Mm-hmm, I know. Don’t worry, really.”
The suppressed anger threatened to flare up again—Yu Jinzhao simply didn’t take her own health seriously. “Forget it,” Pei Daowan said, sounding helpless. “I’ll take care of them for you.”
If she left it to Yu Jinzhao, who knew when it would get done? Besides, Yu Jinzhao might not know which patches were high-quality. It was better to handle it herself.
“It’s not that I don’t care about my health. It just doesn’t feel like it has a big impact on me. Plus, I’ve been busy lately. I was planning to go to the hospital after this busy period passed.”
Pei Daowan remained displeased. “It had better be.”
Yu Jinzhao lightly patted the back of Pei Daowan’s hand to reassure her. For a moment, Pei Daowan was genuinely moved, but her pride kept her from admitting it. “How disrespectful,” she muttered.
Yu Jinzhao pouted. “Good Sister, you’re only three years older than me.”
Pei Daowan didn’t respond. In her last life, she died at thirty-seven. Calculating it properly, she was a full twelve years older. Her gaze darkened, and her steps slowed. She was a full generation older!
She knew about the “older sister” preference in the community, but at her true age, she wasn’t a “sister”—she was an “aunt.” Feeling a bit disgruntled, her movements nonetheless remained tender. She leaned in slightly to fix Yu Jinzhao’s suit collar and checked the sleeves for wrinkles.
“Did you bring a hair clip?”
Yu Jinzhao had her hair in a high ponytail today, making her look crisp and capable—like a young manager.
“No,” Yu Jinzhao admitted. She’d left in a hurry and hadn’t brought many personal items.
Pei Daowan pulled a black clip from her own bag, tucked the stray hairs behind Yu Jinzhao’s ears, and pinned them personally so nothing would stick out when she walked. As she finished, her hand brushed past Yu Jinzhao’s jawline. She stared at her, lost in thought.
So handsome. Like a little princess about to go to battle—noble, elegant, and full of poise. This was perhaps Yu Jinzhao’s true self.
Seeing Pei Daowan dazing out while looking at her, Yu Jinzhao felt for a moment that the woman truly cared. Those details weren’t just one-sided. She felt she should do something; her fingers twitched, and she tentatively reached out. Sensing no rejection from Pei Daowan, she rested her hand in the woman’s palm.
As their fingers touched, Yu Jinzhao felt a cool temperature, slightly lower than her own. In the next second, she gripped those hands tightly, their posture shifting from a light touch to walking arm-in-arm.
“Let’s go.”
Pei Daowan showed no dissatisfaction, allowing the series of movements. They entered the banquet hall arm-in-arm.
Since Pei Daowan had organized the gathering, her face was familiar to everyone, but the person beside her was a stranger to most. Occasionally, gazes fell upon them. Pei Daowan acted as if she didn’t notice, pulling Yu Jinzhao half a step ahead into the center of the room.
Yu Jinzhao didn’t care either. This wasn’t her first banquet; she showed no sign of constraint. When she met someone’s gaze, she responded with a smile. For a moment, she felt like a “kept man” being brought out to see the world by her benefactor, Pei Daowan. The thought brought an odd sense of excitement.
Some people had already guessed her identity, their expressions a mix of emotions. Pei Daowan had never brought anyone to such a semi-private event before, and with the rumors that the Yu family Alpha was pursuing her, the identity of the person beside her was clear.
Soon, Pei Daowan introduced her. Yu Jinzhao acted incredibly well-behaved, leaning close to Pei Daowan. To an outsider, it looked like Yu Jinzhao was the Omega and the one “marrying down.”
Pei Daowan felt a bit amused, yet her heart softened. She knew why Yu Jinzhao was acting this way. She tightened her grip on the girl’s arm, keeping her firmly by her side.
Many guests had their suspicions confirmed. Some were dismissive—no matter how strong Pei Daowan was, she still had to climb the “Yu family branch.” Others marveled; Pei Daowan was already a business genius, and with a Yu alliance, they’d better stay on her good side.
Yu Jinzhao ignored the politics. Her goal was clear: be a “trophy” for Pei Daowan. She did nothing but act as eye candy and offer polite pleasantries.
Some people with hidden agendas tried to strike up a conversation with her, but Pei Daowan subtly blocked them all, leaving those people gritting their teeth.
This was Yu Jinzhao—the only Alpha heir of Yu Xincheng. If they could make a connection, they’d be set for life in Jiangcheng.
