A Scumbag Alpha Gets the Simp’s Script - Chapter 34
Pei Daowan glanced at the hangover soup. It was apple and hawthorn soup, and it looked quite appetizing, without the fruit dregs or sediment that usually appear after long simmering.
She had never actually had hangover soup before. In the past, after drinking, she would simply sleep it off and go straight to work. This was the first time someone had cooked it for her.
“Drink some soup first. I’m going down to make some steamed egg custard. You’ve slept for most of the day, so you must be hungry. Eat something light to line your stomach first, then we can have a nice dinner tonight, okay?”
Yu Jinzhao’s voice was gentle, her tone doting and soothing, leaving Pei Daowan with no reason to refuse.
Pei Daowan gave a slight nod in silent consent. She watched Yu Jinzhao leave before picking up the bowl. The apples were cut into perfect, uniform cubes, and the hawthorns had been pitted and even peeled.
The soup was at the perfect temperature. It started tart on the tongue, but a slow sweetness emerged in the aftertaste. Pei Daowan drank it bit by bit, finishing every piece of fruit inside.
She opened her phone and skimmed through today’s work. She had already told Liu Qingyi last night that she wouldn’t be in today, so Liu Qingyi had simply sent a summary of the project’s progress.
The original plan was to take Yu Jinzhao to the doctor today, but after what happened last night, tomorrow wouldn’t work either. She still felt weak, her waist and limbs sore; the earliest she could take her would be the day after tomorrow.
While Pei Daowan was lost in thought, Yu Jinzhao knocked and entered.
“The egg custard is ready! Eat it while it’s hot. Also, what would you like for dinner tonight?”
Pei Daowan felt a moment of speechlessness. Hangover soup, then egg custard, and dinner shortly after—did she really intend to feed her like a pig?
Her tone turned a bit prickly: “You decide. I don’t want the egg custard, and I want to sleep.”
Pei Daowan was feeling a bit petulant. She didn’t know why, but she just wanted to make things a little difficult for Yu Jinzhao.
Yu Jinzhao’s voice turned sugary sweet, with a playful lilt: “Good Sister~ just have a little bit. Eat a bit before you sleep, or you might get low blood sugar.”
Pei Daowan gave a huff of agreement. With a proud expression, she unceremoniously began to issue orders.
“Then I want Sweet and Sour Mandarin Fish, Longjing Prawns, Almond Tofu, and a Lotus Pond Stir-fry.”
None of the dishes Pei Daowan mentioned were simple; they were all somewhat labor-intensive to prepare. However, Yu Jinzhao didn’t show the slightest hint of displeasure or impatience. She agreed readily with a beaming smile.
“Then finish the egg custard before you nap. I’ll watch you finish it, take the bowl down, and call you once dinner is ready.”
Pei Daowan nodded. Yu Jinzhao was incredibly easy to talk to at the moment, giving her the feeling that no matter what she said or did, she wouldn’t be refused.
Since they were out of ingredients, Yu Jinzhao headed out to the supermarket downstairs. She walked with light, quick steps, humming a tune all the way. While she was lining up to pay for her groceries, a stranger bumped into her from behind.
“Oh, if it isn’t Sister Yu! First time seeing you at a supermarket. Marriage really changes a person; turned you into a henpecked spouse, has it? I sent you messages to come out for a drink, but you ignored me.”
Yu Jinzhao turned to look at the person. His hair was dyed a garish mix of colors, and he was covered in clinking accessories—fitting her stereotype of a boorish rich kid perfectly.
She vaguely remembered him from a corner of her phone’s contact list; he had messaged the original soul on her second day here. Since she didn’t know him and wasn’t interested, she hadn’t replied. She didn’t mean to attack his appearance, but she truly disliked his aura; it felt a bit sinister.
Her attitude was cold, her voice flat: “I’ve been busy. No time.”
She clearly wanted no further interaction with him.
The man, Deng Cheng, saw her coldness and assumed she was still angry about something in the past. He laughed and explained: “Hey! Don’t be like that. We’re close, aren’t we? Who does Pei Daowan think she is? What, can she actually control you? Didn’t we agree? Once you got married and bored of her, you’d let me have a turn with her.”
Yu Jinzhao’s gaze sharpened instantly. Her pupils locked onto Deng Cheng, her jaw tightened into a hard line, and her breathing became heavy. Seeing her lowered brows and narrowed eyes—glaring at him like a blade—Deng Cheng jumped in fright. What’s wrong with her?
“Wait, what’s up? Even if you don’t want to give her to me, just say the word. Why look at me like that? Didn’t we say Omegas are like clothes, but we’re brothers for life?”
Expressionless, Yu Jinzhao grabbed his arm that was draped over her shoulder and squeezed. She applied significant force to the space between his thumb and forefinger, making him cry out in pain.
Her eyes were cold and focused: “If I hear you say anything like that again, I will tear your mouth apart.”
“Get lost!”
Deng Cheng was terrified. He found Yu Jinzhao’s behavior baffling, but intimidated by her aura, he could only swallow his words. Even so, he muttered profanities as he walked away.
Yu Jinzhao truly wanted to drag him back and beat him up. After steadying her emotions, her expression remained dark. Just how many pieces of trash did the original soul know? In her month here, she’d received many messages—drinks and dinners were minor compared to those involving drugs, gambling, or worse. To avoid trouble, she hadn’t replied to any, but she hadn’t deleted them either.
Now, she considered whether she should change her number. She needed to completely isolate herself from the original soul’s old circle. Even if people grew suspicious, what could they do? It’s not like they could force her into a DNA test.
On the way back, Yu Jinzhao’s mood remained low. The fact that this man disrespected Pei Daowan so much proved the original soul never valued her wife either, treating her more like a trophy to boast about.
With a mental spit of disgust, Yu Jinzhao pulled out her phone and found the contact for the man she just met. Deng Cheng, right? Good, she noted it. Since she occupied the identity of a rebellious second-generation heir, why not use it? She sent a text message to a certain contact and then deleted Deng Cheng.
It wasn’t until she reached the flower stall at the entrance of her building that her mood finally improved a little. Her innate romantic streak surfaced. She thought: I should buy a bouquet to go with tonight’s dinner.
Yu Jinzhao picked out the stems herself, arranging a large bouquet based on what she guessed were Pei Daowan’s preferences. She gave it a light sniff—a faint floral scent, not overly sweet. Perfect.
Returning home, she found it was still early and Pei Daowan hadn’t woken yet, so she began preparing for dinner.
When Pei Daowan finally woke, it was nearly 6:00 PM. Occasional sounds drifted up from downstairs as Yu Jinzhao worked. Her body felt clean; Yu Jinzhao must have bathed her after last night… she’d even changed her undergarments, pajamas, and the sheets.
The warm water hit her skin, causing a slight sting. Pei Daowan half-closed her eyes, leaning against the bathtub with a heavy heart. Her fingers traced… the swelling from the friction had not yet receded. She frowned slightly, one leg curling up, her fair skin emerging from the water. She splashed water over herself, watching it curve along her inner thigh. She couldn’t describe the feeling—a bit empty, a bit lonely, yet also like she’d tasted something she now craved. Her physical needs were temporarily met, but the psychological void was wider, leaving her at a loss.
She had never experienced these things before. In both lives, she had always used suppressants for her heat cycles. It wasn’t that she had a “mental purity” complex; she simply found Alphas to be dirty. Because she didn’t want to be near them and had no one she liked, she had endured for years. Last night’s experience had truly opened a new door for her.
A sense of disconnect and desire struggled within Pei Daowan. She suddenly stopped, turned off the tap expressionless, dried herself, and put back on the pajamas Yu Jinzhao had changed her into before heading downstairs.
In that moment, she realized that without Yu Jinzhao, it all felt tasteless, so there was no point in continuing.
When she reached the bottom of the stairs, she saw Yu Jinzhao arranging a large, vibrant bouquet. The girl was careful, checking from every angle, placing the flowers in the most prominent spot on the dining table—right where someone coming down the stairs would see them immediately.
As if sensing something, Yu Jinzhao looked up. Pei Daowan was standing at the corner of the stairs, looking down at her—the exact spot where she greeted her every morning. Because of the distance, Yu Jinzhao couldn’t see her expression clearly, so she simply scooped up the large bouquet and bounded up the stairs.
“Pei Daowan, look! Isn’t it beautiful?”
Yu Jinzhao held the flowers out to her: tulips, champagne roses, daisies, and several flowers Pei Daowan couldn’t name. Combined, the colors were vivid but not gaudy. Pei Daowan had never liked bright colors, thinking them too flashy and unsuited to her. For the first time, she felt brilliance was beautiful—the impact of the blended colors was far more striking than any single hue.
A thousand words gathered in her throat, finally condensing into: “Beautiful!”
At those words, Yu Jinzhao’s smile spilled over, so bright it was hard to look at. The curve of her mouth revealed a glimpse of her canines, and her eyelashes fluttered, catching a golden shimmer.
Yu Jinzhao’s voice was bright and airy: “Should I put them on the table?”
Pei Daowan nodded, but she didn’t let Yu Jinzhao carry them back; she took the bouquet herself and cradled it in her arms. Seeing that she truly liked them, Yu Jinzhao’s eyes sparkled. “Then sit for a moment. One more soup to go. It’ll be ready in minutes.”
Pei Daowan placed the flowers beside her, at a height she could reach just by extending her hand. The flowers were in full bloom, bright yet not overly delicate. Pei Daowan had never realized flowers could be this beautiful.
She wasn’t a romantic person. Most of the time, she was quite dull; outside of work, nothing really piqued her interest. While Yu Jinzhao was busy in the kitchen, Pei Daowan couldn’t stop looking at the bouquet, her lips curving into a smile. A faint joy spread from the bottom of her heart.
The annoyance caused by Yu Jinzhao’s recklessness last night vanished completely the moment she saw these flowers.
