A Scumbag Alpha Gets the Simp’s Script - Chapter 7
Pei Daowan’s first instinct was to refuse, but the savory aroma of the noodle soup wafted to her nose, causing the words to catch in her throat. She hadn’t eaten all day, and Yu Jinzhao’s cooking had unexpectedly piqued her appetite.
There was another factor: looking at Yu Jinzhao, she could somehow read a faint, careful, and hidden expectation in the girl’s eyes. It made Pei Daowan temporarily unable to say no.
Seeing Pei Daowan hesitate, Yu Jinzhao realized this was a golden opportunity to build some goodwill. She set the bowl on the table without further discussion.
“Eat this one first. It’s no trouble at all; I’ll be quick.”
With that, she turned back into the kitchen and closed the door, blocking Pei Daowan’s view as she started a new pot for herself.
Pei Daowan’s gaze was pensive as she stared at the bowl. It was just a simple home-cooked bowl of noodles, but the poached egg was fried perfectly—neat and round. Clearly, this wasn’t her first time in a kitchen.
Suddenly, Pei Daowan felt a spark of curiosity about Yu Jinzhao’s past. What had she done before coming here?
“Tell me, what did Yu Jinzhao do before?”
The System was flattered. The Host rarely took the initiative to ask it anything; usually, she just ignored it. It immediately spilled everything it knew like pouring beans from a jar.
“This Yu Jinzhao has been an excellent student since childhood. Her life was smooth sailing all the way through university. Her family wasn’t wealthy, but they were comfortably middle-class.”
“She studied Business Administration. After graduation, she started as a management trainee at a famous listed company, and later she started her own business. Her personal capability is actually very high.”
“And then?”
Rarely seeing the Host in an inquisitive mood, the System dumped every detail about Yu Jinzhao’s life until the kitchen door opened again, interrupting the data stream.
The first thing Yu Jinzhao saw was the bowl of noodles—still in the exact spot she had placed it, untouched. She felt a wave of awkwardness and embarrassment, wishing for a hole to crawl into.
Pei Daowan was also startled. she hadn’t expected Yu Jinzhao to be so fast, nor did she realize she had spent so long listening to the System.
“Sorry, I was lost in thought just now. I’ll eat it now.”
For the first time, Pei Daowan felt an urge to flee from Yu Jinzhao. Specifically, she didn’t dare meet her eyes; she was suddenly afraid those subtle, hidden emotions would vanish.
She picked up the bowl and left faster than Yu Jinzhao, without even saying thank you. She blamed this momentary lapse in composure on the fact that “Yu Jinzhao is currently acting like a genuinely good person.”
She didn’t want to truly hurt a good person.
Watching Pei Daowan leave with the noodles, Yu Jinzhao stood still for a long time before letting out a long sigh.
Her mission was to help Pei Daowan topple the Yu family, build her career, and let her feel the beauty of the world.
To put it bluntly, it was a “savior” plot. But the mindset of a savior was inherently arrogant—like the pity of a superior being toward an inferior one.
Yu Jinzhao shook her head, casting these ill-timed thoughts aside. She ate her own noodles bite by bite as the stars began to emerge outside the window.
After finishing her noodles, Yu Jinzhao was about to wash the dishes when Pei Daowan returned with an empty bowl. She had finished it all, leaving only a little broth.
Instantly, Yu Jinzhao’s mood brightened. The confusion about the future and her subtle anxieties were temporarily suppressed.
The corners of her mouth lifted, her voice carrying a hint of excitement. “Just leave the bowl here; I’ll take care of it.”
Pei Daowan shook her head slightly. Since Yu Jinzhao had already cooked, letting her do the dishes too felt wrong.
She had reflected on herself since returning this afternoon. This person was different from the one before. Though she still thought of the past when she saw Yu Jinzhao’s face, still…
Her train of thought was cut off as Yu Jinzhao smilingly took the bowl from her hands before she realized she had let go.
“It’s fine. I haven’t tidied the kitchen yet anyway. It’ll be quick.”
Seeing Yu Jinzhao’s firm stance, Pei Daowan didn’t insist. She gave a soft thanks and turned to leave.
Yu Jinzhao was in a great mood. She could tell Pei Daowan wasn’t in a bad mood—she was much calmer than when they first met. This was a good sign; slowly but surely, she could overwrite the bad impression left by the original soul.
Back in her bedroom, Pei Daowan was unusually quiet. She asked the System, “Continue. You said Yu Jinzhao had someone she liked in university?”
“Oh, that? It wasn’t exactly ‘love,’ Host. That girl was Yu Jinzhao’s junior. They met because of the opening ceremony and later became friends. After Yu Jinzhao graduated, they went to different cities and lost contact.”
Pei Daowan sneered. “That is what you call ‘liking someone’?”
The System felt wronged. It didn’t think it had actually used the word “love”—the Host had said it herself—but it didn’t dare argue, so it kept its head down.
“Continue!”
Another hour passed. The System really had nothing left to say; finer details were known only to Yu Jinzhao herself.
The System was a bit smug. Yu Jinzhao practically had no negative traits; her two mothers had raised her very well.
“See, Host? I told you Yu Jinzhao’s character is absolutely trustworthy. You can use her with peace of mind. She’s the only one I found out of tens of thousands.”
“Shut up!”
For some reason, Pei Daowan’s voice suddenly turned cold. She had been listening with interest just a moment ago, but now her brow was clouded with severity. The System shrank back, not daring to make a sound.
Yu Jinzhao had been lying in bed for a long time without falling asleep. Perhaps she had slept too much during the day, or perhaps she just wasn’t tired. She tossed and turned, her mind sharp and clear.
Pei Daowan’s room was right next door. This house was a small villa; the first floor consisted of the living room, dining room, garage, and the butler’s quarters. The second floor was for the masters.
Yu Jinzhao was in the master bedroom. It was massive—so big that it made her feel empty. She had never slept in such a large room, and being in a “book” only intensified her sense of loneliness.
Pei Daowan was in the guest room next door. Although called a “guest” room, its specifications were top-tier, only slightly smaller than the master.
Yu Jinzhao couldn’t help but wonder: Is she asleep?
The System said her mission was to help Pei Daowan, but it never told her what Pei Daowan actually wanted. Furthermore, Pei Daowan was still very guarded.
Yu Jinzhao hadn’t drawn her curtains. The pale moonlight filtered into the room, adding an unnameable, subtle atmosphere. She sighed and checked the time: 2:00 AM.
She had looked through the original owner’s phone. It was like a “senior phone” from her world—no entertainment apps, nothing interesting. She had scrolled through it all and found nothing useful except the contact list and some text messages.
Unable to sleep, Yu Jinzhao threw on a robe and stood up. She decided to look at the moon—to see if the moon in this world was any different from her own.
Walking onto the balcony, she suddenly caught a faint scent of tobacco mixed with a cold fragrance. That cold scent was similar to the one she had smelled before fainting.
It was faint, like fresh snow over hidden flower branches—the scent of snow and flowers blending together. As the sun came out, the two intertwined and rose into the air, drifting into Yu Jinzhao’s nose.
Yu Jinzhao instinctively turned her head. Sure enough, she saw a familiar figure on the adjacent balcony.
The balconies of the master and guest rooms were connected, separated only by a hollowed-out screen. In the moonlight, though the silhouette was hazy, it didn’t stop Yu Jinzhao from seeing the whole picture.
With the moon behind her, Pei Daowan was cast in shadow, her features obscure. She had one hand resting on a lounge chair, and between her slender fingers glowed a spark of crimson.
Yu Jinzhao’s gaze traveled up from that crimson spark. Though she couldn’t see clearly, the pale blue smoke made the woman’s features even more blurred.
She saw long, curled eyelashes and downcast eyes that weren’t focused on anything, just drifting in the empty air. Inexplicably, Yu Jinzhao read a sense of decadent, intoxicating beauty in the scene.
She had seen people smoke before, including women. When she was starting her business, she met many people—beautiful men and women alike. She had seen them smoke, but never like this. Yu Jinzhao found herself unable to look away.
Her logic told her that smoking was a bad habit, but her emotions were currently winning. The woman held the cigarette between her red lips, her slender frame outlined by her clothes, revealing a large patch of porcelain-white skin at her neck.
Bare skin, haze, intoxication, and smoke—it was like a richly colored oil painting.
Yu Jinzhao’s breath hitched. She realized belatedly that this was very rude—not to mention that in this world, she was an Alpha and the other was an Omega, and she herself was naturally attracted to women.
Like her two mothers, she was naturally inclined toward women. She loved the intricate, hidden, and complex emotions of love and hate between women.
She had a great deal of affection for women and didn’t mind them peeking into the depths of her soul. But at this moment, she suddenly felt a sense of retreat. She was ashamed to show her soul, and she instinctively took a step back.
The movement startled Pei Daowan. She turned her head and met Yu Jinzhao’s flustered face.
By instinct, Pei Daowan frowned. She hadn’t expected Yu Jinzhao to still be awake at this hour, let alone to catch her like this.
The moment Pei Daowan looked at her, the haze and dream-like quality vanished. Yu Jinzhao felt a wave of annoyance at herself; her appearance had disturbed the other’s peace.
“Sorry… I couldn’t sleep and wanted to look at the moon. I didn’t mean to disturb you.”
Pei Daowan’s frown deepened. Why is the first thing out of this person’s mouth always an apology? Can’t she say anything else!
Sensing Pei Daowan’s resistance, Yu Jinzhao became even more restless. Her cheeks began to burn; she seemed to always be bothering her.
And when she looked at her, a subtle, hidden emotion welled up in her heart that she didn’t know how to handle. Unlike with friends or family, where Yu Jinzhao could be perfectly considerate and charming, her emotional intelligence seemed to evaporate in front of Pei Daowan. Other than “sorry,” she truly didn’t know what to say. She could only attribute these feelings to the fact that this was her “mission target.”
“The moon is full on the fifteenth, but rounder on the sixteenth. You can keep looking tomorrow night.”
Having said this, Pei Daowan crushed the cigarette butt. The crimson spark fell away, taking all the lingering romance with it, as she turned back to her room.
Yu Jinzhao heard the click of the door lock, followed by the faint rustle of curtains being drawn. A moment later, everything returned to silence, leaving only the full moon and Yu Jinzhao alone—as if everything that just happened was an illusion.
A barely audible sigh escaped her lips. Yu Jinzhao suddenly lost all interest in moon-gazing. She also turned back to her room, but she didn’t draw her curtains or close the balcony door. She slowly drifted off to sleep bathed in the moonlight.
