A Scumbag Alpha Gets the Simp’s Script - Chapter 8
For many days in a row, despite living under the same roof, Yu Jinzhao and Pei Daowan rarely crossed paths. Pei Daowan was busy—almost overwhelmingly so—leaving early and returning late every day. Yu Jinzhao seldom ran into her, and some nights, she didn’t come back at all.
Compared to Pei Daowan, Yu Jinzhao lived like an idle wanderer. She slept until she woke up naturally, went to the market to buy groceries, and spent her afternoons either taking a short walk or simply staying at home.
A new butler still hadn’t been hired. Pei Daowan seemed to have forgotten about it, and Yu Jinzhao didn’t bring it up. After that one night on the balcony, Yu Jinzhao had looked at the moon again the following evening; it was indeed rounder and brighter, just as Pei Daowan had said.
Yet Yu Jinzhao looked at it with a sense of dejection. The moon was beautiful, but it was too far away—it didn’t belong to the world of mortals.
The half-month marriage leave had flown by, leaving only tomorrow as the final day. Once it was over, she would have to go to work at the so-called Yu Corporation. She didn’t mind working, but she felt a profound internal aimlessness.
Currently, she was sitting on the sofa in the first-floor living room, standing up occasionally to check the time and pacing back and forth. she looked anxious.
She was waiting for Pei Daowan to return. She had been waiting for nearly three days.
A few days ago, she had received a call from Yu Xincheng. He told her that on the final day of her marriage leave, she was to bring Pei Daowan to the ancestral residence for a meal and to introduce her to some people.
Yu Jinzhao’s first instinct was to refuse, but Yu Xincheng gave her no room to argue, his tone laced with warnings.
“I do not like Omegas showing their faces too much in public, especially one who has married into my Yu family. If you cannot control her, I will do it for you.”
The words were rude and patronizing, but Yu Jinzhao lacked the capital to refuse. Everything she currently possessed was provided by the Yu family. Although she didn’t covet these things, the identity of “Yu Jinzhao” was still useful. she didn’t want to give it up, or she wouldn’t know how to help Pei Daowan.
She had to go back. This world didn’t belong to her; she had zero sense of belonging here, so she had to keep using this identity as a tool.
But…
She didn’t know if she could even catch Pei Daowan today. Tomorrow was already the deadline.
She wanted to contact her, but after scouring her phone, she found no contact information, nor did she know where to find her. She had called out to the System, but no voice responded, adding to her mounting frustration.
Clinging to this uneasy mood, Yu Jinzhao waited until evening. She hadn’t done a single thing all day. If she couldn’t wait for Pei Daowan, she would have to go to the ancestral home alone tomorrow.
There was also a hidden, shameful thought: she was a little afraid. Not of Yu Xincheng, but of the unknown.
In this world, the only person on the same side as her was Pei Daowan. She was here because of her. Now, after many days without progress, Yu Jinzhao was starting to get worried.
In the past, she did things step-by-step, unraveling problems bit by bit. Rarely did things escape her control; she had been the “model child” since she was young because she could always keep everything organized.
But since arriving here, everything had spiraled out of her control. In this strange world, she had to pull in her horns and grope her way forward, and Pei Daowan was her only source of confidence.
Just as Yu Jinzhao was about to fall asleep while waiting, the sound of a key turning in the front door exploded in her ears like a thunderclap.
She sat up with a start, her body tensed, staring unblinkingly at the door.
Creak—
The sound was faint, but Yu Jinzhao didn’t even dare to breathe, as if afraid of scaring something away.
It wasn’t until the person behind the door fully revealed herself that Yu Jinzhao breathed a silent sigh of relief and allowed her body to relax.
Pei Daowan hadn’t expected Yu Jinzhao to be in the living room, let alone staring at her so intensely. She thought the girl wouldn’t be home at this hour; previously, she had been absent during these times.
“Um… you’re back.”
Pei Daowan placed her keys and bag in the foyer, nodding slightly as a response.
As she changed her shoes and noticed Yu Jinzhao still staring, a trace of confusion flickered through Pei Daowan’s mind. Yu Jinzhao rarely looked at her like this.
“Is something the matter?”
“A few days ago, Yu Xin—my father called me. He wants us to go to the ancestral home tomorrow to catch up.”
The word “father” was exceptionally forced, sounding as if she were being strangled while saying it.
Pei Daowan nodded, indicating she understood. After all, she had come back specifically for this.
Yu Xincheng hadn’t just called Yu Jinzhao; he had called her as well. That old fox deserved to die. Despite how subtly she had been making her moves, that old fox could still sniff out a trail. He was truly troublesome.
Yu Jinzhao hesitated for a moment, then suddenly said: “Actually, it’s fine if we don’t go. I can say…”
“It’s fine. It’s time to head back anyway. Coincidentally, I have nothing else to do tomorrow.”
Pei Daowan seemed to have no particular emotion regarding the visit to the ancestral home, accepting it calmly. This left Yu Jinzhao feeling a bit unsettled.
She wanted to say something, but she had no standing or identity to do so. She could only ask awkwardly, “Have you eaten yet?”
Upon hearing this, Pei Daowan seemed to smile. It was a very faint smile, so quick that Yu Jinzhao thought it was an illusion.
“I just got back. Not yet.”
Yu Jinzhao felt a sudden surge of joy. She couldn’t help but take a step forward. “Then I’ll cook! What would you like to eat?”
The moment the words left her mouth, she regretted it. she had forgotten again what kind of impression the original owner had left on Pei Daowan. Pei Daowan didn’t know the soul had been swapped; this was too abrupt.
“What are you good at making?”
Just as Yu Jinzhao was feeling awkward, Pei Daowan spoke. Her tone held a hint of inquiry, her eyelashes fluttering. Unlike the hazy intoxication of that night, she looked somewhat serious now.
“Anything in the stir-fry category is fine.”
Yu Jinzhao smiled softly, her eyes filled with hidden anticipation.
“Stir-fry, then.”
“Any dietary restrictions?”
“I don’t like heavy flavors, especially spicy food.”
“Me too.”
After saying this, Yu Jinzhao turned and dashed into the kitchen as if escaping, her voice drifting back from a distance: “Rest for a bit. It should be ready in less than an hour.”
Pei Daowan didn’t move, nor did she go back to her room. Instead, she sat on the sofa. The kitchen was well-insulated; only a faint sound reached her. Pei Daowan couldn’t hear exactly what she was doing. Her expression was pensive.
“What has Yu Jinzhao been doing these past few days?”
“Replying to Host: Yu Jinzhao hasn’t done anything. Sometimes she sleeps until she wakes naturally; sometimes she wakes up early for a run. Before coming home, she visits the vegetable market to buy groceries and then cooks. In the afternoons, she either goes out for a bit or just stays home reading and sleeping.”
Hearing this, this Yu Jinzhao was indeed low-maintenance.
“Oh, right. During this time, Yu Jinzhao’s old friends asked her out, but she refused and stayed home.”
“Old friends?”
The System realized it had slipped up and hurriedly corrected itself: “The previous Yu Jinzhao’s friend, Jiang Jie.”
At the mention of Jiang Jie, the look in Pei Daowan’s eyes turned cold and sharp. She had almost forgotten that scumbag. He and that beast (the original Yu Jinzhao) were two of a kind—both Alphas who used their biological advantages to commit countless atrocities.
She hadn’t even noticed that she had gradually begun to separate the current Yu Jinzhao from the person before. Now, when she thought of “Yu Jinzhao,” it was just this Yu Jinzhao.
Inside the kitchen, Yu Jinzhao was debating what to cook. After all, she didn’t know Pei Daowan’s favorites.
She opened the fridge and looked at the fresh groceries she’d bought today, falling into a dilemma: pork or beef?
“The Female Lead prefers beef.”
The System, which hadn’t appeared for a long time, suddenly spoke. Yu Jinzhao was startled for a moment before realizing it was the System’s voice—she hadn’t heard it in nearly half a month.
“I called for you many times before. Why did you never appear?”
The System’s heart tightened. That’s because I’m not your System! It could only enter Yu Jinzhao’s mind now because Pei Daowan had authorized it; otherwise, it wouldn’t dare.
Just as the System was about to laugh it off, it received an instruction from Pei Daowan. It immediately answered according to her words.
“Because we both exist for the sake of the Female Lead. I can only appear when I am near her; otherwise, I cannot manifest.”
“I see.”
Yu Jinzhao didn’t doubt it. At this point, she had no choice but to trust the System.
Yu Jinzhao chatted idly with the System while cooking. she didn’t ask where Pei Daowan had been all these days, nor did she ask exactly what she needed to do to complete the mission.
Instead, she inquired about “inconsequential” trifles—like what Pei Daowan liked or disliked.
While she was talking to the System, she finished the meal. Pei Daowan checked the time—just over half an hour. Truly fast. It seemed Yu Jinzhao was quite experienced in the kitchen.
“It’s Savory Eggplant and Tomato Beef Brisket.”
After speaking, Yu Jinzhao peeked at Pei Daowan’s expression. She was a bit taller than Pei Daowan, so she could clearly see the slight upward curve of the woman’s lips. It seemed the System was reliable.
It was lucky the System didn’t know what she was thinking, or it would have broken into a cold sweat. Those words had been dictated by Pei Daowan; it hadn’t dared to add a single extra word.
“Go wash your hands and let’s eat.”
“Okay.”
Pei Daowan’s aura was gentle now. She was wrapped in a floor-length, raven-gray dress, her long hair swept to one side and held loosely by a simple claw clip. Her entire demeanor was quiet and elegant, like a pristine spring orchid.
For some reason, Yu Jinzhao felt her face grow hot. She looked away, not daring to stare. Such a person should be treated well; how could she be allowed to be stained by the mundane smoke and fire of the world!
Once again, she felt a deeper surge of contempt for the original soul. Aside from having decent taste, she was utterly worthless.
Yu Jinzhao knew she had always been attracted to women. She loved their resilience and their gentleness. At this moment, a protective instinct rose within her. Such beauty shouldn’t be destroyed by anyone. This wasn’t necessarily about romantic love; it was the most basic urge to cherish a beautiful thing.
Taking a deep breath while Pei Daowan went to wash her hands, Yu Jinzhao adjusted her emotions. She wasn’t the original owner, nor was she the Alpha of this world. She suppressed her ill-timed thoughts.
Beautiful things shouldn’t be possessed; they should be allowed to bloom so everyone can see their splendor. She just needed to do her part.
