A Supernatural Live Stream: The Real Young Master is Trending Again - Chapter 10
Holding the kitten in his lap as he sat, Si Ye spoke unhurriedly: “My foster mother Liu Yunyan’s child died the moment it was born.”
“He has no blood relationship with the Shi family.”
Si Ye’s gaze was calm. Before Liu Yunyan died, he had seen the spirit of that deceased infant. At that moment, he finally understood why Shi Hai treated Shi Jingning with such indifference, and why Shi Hai allowed Shi Jingning to be bullied during the years Ji Mengxue was abroad with Shi Nian for medical treatment.
The family Shi Jingning yearned for had never existed from the very beginning.
“Then I’ll go… I’ll go deal with him!” Gu Mohan’s eyes lit up as he snapped back to his senses, making a swift decision.
“Is that okay, F—Brother?”
Gu Mohan looked expectantly at the youth, seemingly ready to act the moment he received an affirmative answer. Si Ye remained silent. The kitten in his arms looked up at him, rubbing its fluffy head against his palm.
“Shi Jingning… might have another identity. We can’t touch him for the time being.”
“There is some other history between him and me.” Si Ye’s expression was somewhat weary as he added dismissively: “I will deal with his matters personally.”
“Oh.” Gu Mohan wilted, though he still wanted to ask more.
Rocheville spoke up: “Let’s head back to my place. Some things aren’t convenient to discuss in public.”
Feeling a bit dizzy, Si Ye gave a light “Mm” in agreement.
The afterglow of the setting sun filtered through the gaps in the curtains, falling upon the sleeping youth as if clinging to his warmth, reluctant to leave. The kitten was held in his arms; it didn’t want to sleep, choosing instead to watch him quietly.
Closing the door softly, Rocheville turned and headed downstairs. Seeing him descend, Gu Mohan dropped what he was doing and stood up abruptly.
“Why are you letting Brother do things that will get him hurt?!”
He glanced upstairs and, suddenly remembering something, quickly lowered his voice. “If using his power will hurt him right now, why are you letting him go on that show?!”
Gu Mohan had been a sponsor for the variety show 《Peering Through the Mist》 for a year, using the opportunity to plant many of his own people in the production crew. He originally thought it was just to facilitate investigations into supernatural events.
But now he was being told that Si Ye was going.
Going was one thing, but given the show’s influence, the uncontrollable online discourse, and Si Ye’s current condition—Gu Mohan suppressed the anger in his eyes, his face full of confusion.
Why, after finally returning, did Father God have to experience such uncontrollable events again? They couldn’t help him sever his blood ties, and they couldn’t directly kill those people due to the Rules.
Having stayed outside the Tower all these years, it wasn’t as if he didn’t know about Father God’s past or what might happen if he were exposed directly to the public. His flesh and blood were the ultimate nourishment; if the Calamities hiding among the crowds discovered him…
The mere thought of anything that could make Si Ye leave them again, or cause him further harm—even just a single insult—made Gu Mohan feel suffocated.
Before he could finish, Rocheville interrupted him directly.
“Do you think I want this?”
Gu Mohan was stunned by the man’s sudden burst of anger. Rocheville raised a hand to rub his temples, calming his emotions.
“The Book of Vows and Si Ye cannot merge yet. Currently, most of his power is unusable. The only solution is to make the public generate emotions toward him. Those feelings are the energy the Book requires.”
Gu Mohan was still confused. “So what if he can’t use it?! Do you mean to say we can’t protect him right now?!”
Even as a lifeform that aged as slowly as the world itself, ten thousand years had long since stripped away his childhood innocence. After everyone around him left, he had no choice but to grow. He was no longer that child who needed family protection; he was now capable of shielding his important people behind him.
The man’s serious face carried a hint of wrath that would have given a boardroom full of executives PTSD.
Looking at the agitated Gu Mohan, Rocheville sat down on the other end of the sofa, crossing his legs naturally. He spoke coldly: “After the High Tower collapsed, the things imprisoned inside escaped.”
“The betrayers from back then, as well as the Calamities that couldn’t be resolved… they all escaped together.”
“Those are not the mere spirits we usually face. Those are Calamities born from the Seven Deadly Sins.”
Gu Mohan’s pupils constricted. A storm erupted in his heart.
Rocheville lowered his eyes, gently stroking the ring on his finger. “If the things Brother personally locked away return and find that the Book of Vows hasn’t merged with him… if they find he isn’t as strong as he once was, what do you think they will do?”
“Have you forgotten what Greed did to Brother back then?” Rocheville’s gaze was icy.
“Those things are not like the entities we’ve faced before or now. You know Brother cares about every life living in this world. It is his duty, his shackle, and essentially his curse. If that day truly comes, do you think—even if we can protect him—Brother wouldn’t do the exact same thing he did in the past for the sake of others?”
The man’s voice was very calm, his eyes flashing with a strange indifference mixed with an indescribable sorrow.
Gu Mohan clenched his fists, his expression becoming extremely grim. A bone-chilling cold crawled through his limbs, and his heart felt as if it were pressed under a giant boulder.
As a child raised by Si Ye, he naturally understood the weight of that responsibility. Gu Mohan hung his head powerlessly.
Ten thousand years ago, everyone gained the concept of “home” because of Si Ye. They were bound by emotion and blood, growing up together in intimacy. Only Rocheville had always remained somewhat apart; he was the earliest lifeform born after Si Ye and also the most distant.
Back then, “dangerous,” “powerful,” and “cold” were his synonyms. When hunting spirits together, Rocheville only cared about the resolution, almost never caring for others, always fighting alone. Except when Si Ye was present, almost no one collaborated with him, and he wouldn’t collaborate with them.
It was the same ten thousand years later. But they all knew that Rocheville was the only companion who could give Si Ye a slim chance at life, which is why they followed his lead.
Before his “Sister” died, she told Gu Mohan to ask nothing, to not be afraid, and to simply follow Rocheville. She said they would all meet again. He didn’t know what his Sister and Rocheville had discussed. Rocheville told him nothing. He didn’t understand the Rules or Fate; he just wanted his family back and for them never to be hurt again.
After a long silence, he finally spoke: “If we follow this plan… can you guarantee… Brother won’t get hurt?”
Rocheville looked up. “I will never let anything happen to him again.”
His voice was light, almost devoid of emotion, yet the dense aura of danger in his eyes grew heavier.
[Live Stream Comments: Ning-bao! Are you sick? Your face looks so pale!]
[Ning-ning, when is the new song coming out? Looking forward to it!]
Kicked in the shin by his manager, Shi Jingning snapped back to his senses. Looking at the comments scrolling through the stream, he forced a smile. “Sorry everyone, I’ve had a bit of a cold lately. It’s nothing.”
The youth looked well-behaved, his hair dyed a soft milky yellow, and his smile appeared exceptionally tender.
[Ah, another day of being crit-hit by Ning-ning’s beauty.]
[I’m licking the screen! Lick lick lick!]
[Everyone in the Shi family is so good-looking. I suspect their whole family won the genetic lottery.]
Looking at the various comments concerned for him, a flash of disgust crossed Shi Jingning’s eyes, but it vanished instantly.
The manager beside him noticed his off-state, waved at the camera, and said apologetically: “Everyone, because Jingning isn’t feeling well, today’s stream will end here. We’ll make up the time later.”
[Eh! It’s been less than twenty minutes, wuwuwu.]
[It’s okay, let Xiao Ning rest well!]
[Kissies to Xiao Ning! Get some rest!]
The stream shut down. The manager rubbed her temples in frustration. “Jingning, what’s been up with you lately? How are you going to handle the upcoming performances in this state?”
Shi Jingning looked up with a pale face, said nothing, and walked straight out the door. The manager looked helpless.
A staff member nearby laughed and consoled her: “His name is Shi Jingning—he’s a young master of the Shi family. He’s just in the industry for fun, why bother stressing over it?”
The manager just shook her head and didn’t answer. While she didn’t understand why Shi Jingning insisted on squeezing into this industry when he clearly disliked it, she knew he was usually quite professional. She could keenly sense that something was very wrong with him lately.
Canceling performances several times in a row, refusing meet-and-greets on the grounds of illness… it was far too unusual.
