A Vicious Scum Alpha in a Heartthrob Novel - Chapter 12
Xu Qingshui hadn’t lied; with her high tolerance, that amount of alcohol was nowhere near enough to get her drunk.
She had pretty much sobered up the moment she stuck her hand out of the car window; she only kept it there because she found the situation amusing. However, Fu Jinghua’s sudden interjection had caught her off guard.
It left her momentarily unsure of the other woman’s intentions.
Her grandmother’s words echoed in her mind: Make Jinghua a little happier.
But her mouth was faster than her brain, and the words that tumbled out were anything but soft.
In a daze, the two of them began their usual verbal sparring again.
Inexplicably, Xu Qingshui looked up and caught the other’s expression in the rearview mirror. Those habitually cold eyes held a trace of playfulness, as if she were convinced Xu Qingshui was drunk. At the very least, there was no sign of the usual loathing.
Xu Qingshui felt a sudden, spontaneous urge to make the woman smile. With that thought in mind, she actually put it into action, letting out a childish, coquettish remark.
This time, she saw a genuine glimmer of amusement in Fu Jinghua’s eyes.
How beautiful.
It lasted only a fleeting second before the woman returned to her expressionless mask. Xu Qingshui felt a twinge of regret, but she knew that too much of a good thing could be counterproductive. One shouldn’t use the same trick too often.
So, she closed her eyes again and feigned sleep. But Fu Jinghua drove so smoothly that, before she knew it, she actually drifted into a deep, genuine slumber.
When they arrived home, Xu Qingshui vaguely sensed Fu Jinghua opening the car door. Her tone wasn’t particularly warm.
“Xu Qingshui, wake up. We’re home. Get out.”
Xu Qingshui forced her eyelids open, her thoughts finally clearing from the haze. Her vision focused on the woman standing before her. She had actually fallen asleep with someone else present.
How could she have let her guard down so completely?
Xu Qingshui looked into Fu Jinghua’s cold, weary eyes; the woman seemed troubled by her current state. It was a strange feeling—having someone tell her she was “home.” Even if it was likely just because Fu Jinghua didn’t want to carry her.
Xu Qingshui suddenly called out: “Fu Jinghua.”
Fu Jinghua frowned, finding it inexplicable. She wasn’t sure why Xu Qingshui was suddenly using her full name. She asked, “Something wrong?”
Xu Qingshui said, “Could you move? You’re blocking my way out.”
Fu Jinghua: “?”
However, she felt a sense of relief. It seemed Xu Qingshui wasn’t entirely out of it. Thinking that she wouldn’t have to deal with this “trouble” herself, she didn’t bother arguing and stepped aside. Still, she didn’t walk away; after all, the Alpha had been drinking with her grandmother, and she was afraid she might collapse the moment she stepped out.
To her surprise, although Xu Qingshui’s face was flushed, her steps were steady—as if she hadn’t been affected by the alcohol at all.
Sobering up that fast? A flash of doubt crossed Fu Jinghua’s eyes. It seemed more likely she hadn’t been that drunk to begin with. She tested her: “Were you really drunk when you were drinking with Grandma today?”
Xu Qingshui: “No. But when the elderly drink too much, it’s never a good thing in the end.”
Fu Jinghua’s suspicion deepened. Xu Qingshui actually possessed this level of emotional intelligence and attentiveness? It’s often in the small details that one truly sees a person’s character. This wasn’t just a bias; Xu Qingshui’s previous tricks had been genuinely clumsy.
But it felt like ever since the night of the wedding, she had become a different person. Fu Jinghua pondered this in silence for a long while.
Seeing this, Xu Qingshui asked curiously, “Why do you think I’m not drunk?”
Sometimes, being drunk doesn’t necessarily mean acting like a fool; if someone is intentionally trying to hide it, it isn’t that easy to detect.
Fu Jinghua glanced at her and said succinctly, “Intuition. After all, the way you just told me to move was as annoying as ever.”
Xu Qingshui: “…”
She really never misses a chance for revenge.
Not wanting to dwell on the issue, she went to the fridge to see if there were any dairy products.
Seeing this, Fu Jinghua spoke up: “There’s no dairy left in the house.”
There was a slight breeze outside. Xu Qingshui vaguely remembered a convenience store downstairs. Thinking a walk would help her fully sober up, she turned to Fu Jinghua. “Want to go to the convenience store?”
Fu Jinghua raised an eyebrow slightly. She felt Xu Qingshui was pushing her luck. Their relationship hadn’t reached the point where they could go to a convenience store together. “Go by yourself.”
Xu Qingshui had only asked casually and hadn’t expected Fu Jinghua to actually go with her. She took the rejection in stride. “Then I’m off.”
With that, she walked out, leaving the empty villa to Fu Jinghua alone.
Fu Jinghua thought: This is for the best. Finally, no one to be an eyesore.
There weren’t many people in the convenience store. A few people were eating, and while Xu Qingshui had intended to just pick up some milk, the smell of the food suddenly made her realize she was hungry.
Fu Jinghua had been driving for so long; she was probably hungry too. With that thought, Xu Qingshui picked up some low-calorie food. She remembered that celebrities had to watch their figures.
Once she had made her selections, she went to the counter to pay. Her hands were very white and slender; as she gripped her phone, the faint outline of her veins was visible through her fingers. They were hands that felt surprisingly powerful.
She was also very good-looking—like a star you’d see on TV. Her pores were fine, and while her eyes held a casual, lazy air, they somehow made one’s heart itch. The cashier couldn’t help but steal several extra glances.
Xu Qingshui didn’t notice this. After paying, she stepped out of the store. Just as she exited, a man brushed past her. She instinctively glanced at his wrist; he was wearing a Fu Jinghua fan tag. It looked like he was a fan.
She couldn’t help but frown, taking a mental note of the man’s appearance. It was undeniable that Fu Jinghua was popular, so having fans was normal. But for a fan to appear right here, so close to home… it felt like too much of a coincidence.
She turned to look at his back again, staying alert. As he entered the store, she managed to snap a photo of his profile, intending to check the nearby security footage when she got back.
Though it might seem like paranoia, given the nature of Fu Jinghua’s job, it was better to be cautious.
She returned home and unlocked the door to find Fu Jinghua still working in the living room. A true workaholic, Xu Qingshui thought.
She set the food on the table and said, “I picked up some things at the convenience store. You must be tired from driving; eat something before you get back to work.”
Fu Jinghua’s typing faltered. She said softly, “No need.”
Xu Qingshui ignored the refusal and changed the subject. She pulled out her phone and asked, “Do you know this person? I saw him at the convenience store downstairs. Looks like a fan of yours.”
Fu Jinghua realized the severity of the situation. She looked closely and saw that it was indeed a fan—and a somewhat extreme one at that. He actually followed me here…
Xu Qingshui’s eyes were unexpectedly sharp. This time, Fu Jinghua spoke up voluntarily: “Thank you.” Because she didn’t say it often to Xu Qingshui, her tone was a bit stiff.
Xu Qingshui didn’t notice. She said casually, “Don’t forget to eat. I’m going to shower.”
Fu Jinghua: “…”
So she just completely ignored what I said earlier?
She looked at the food on the table. After a pause, she tore open the packaging.
It was… actually quite delicious.
