A Vicious Scum Alpha in a Heartthrob Novel - Chapter 13
After her simple meal, Fu Jinghua dove back into her work.
The phone beside her suddenly lit up. She gave it a brief glance, but seeing it wasn’t hers, she didn’t pay it much mind.
A few seconds later, a call came through. The name “Yu Xin” appeared on the screen. Fu Jinghua didn’t know the person personally, but she had heard the name before—a textbook “rich second-generation” playboy whose primary skills were squandering family money and seeking pleasure. Fu Jinghua couldn’t help but frown; she didn’t understand why Xu Qingshui associated with such people.
But then she reconsidered. Hasn’t her social circle always been like this? Always drinking and chatting with that group of fair-weather friends.
Easier to move mountains and rivers than to change one’s nature.
Fu Jinghua’s gaze gradually turned cold. She stopped looking at Xu Qingshui’s phone and refocused on her work. However, her brow remained knit, her expression grew solemn, and she appeared even more distant.
Xu Qingshui was oblivious to what was happening outside. She had been drinking, and while it didn’t impair her, it did leave her with a touch of drowsiness, so she finished her shower quickly.
By the time she emerged, she was fully settled. Wrapped in her pajamas, she walked into the living room and found Fu Jinghua still reading. Xu Qingshui caught a glimpse of the title—it was the script for a movie the woman was preparing for.
According to the original plot, Fu Jinghua would perform exceptionally in this film, gaining acclaim both at home and abroad, and ultimately securing the Best Actress crown. However, there would be a small setback midway through: rumors would circulate questioning if she had obtained the role through “unspoken rules.” While such things were common in the entertainment industry and Fu Jinghua would handle it well, the “dirty water” would inevitably leave a scar. Later, misinformed onlookers would often use it as a professional stain on her career.
In Xu Qingshui’s view, she might as well become a director herself; after all, it was her professional background.
Seeing that Fu Jinghua was busy, Xu Qingshui didn’t want to disturb her and picked up her phone to browse some shows. Just as she picked it up, she noticed Fu Jinghua’s frown.
Thinking the woman had encountered a professional hurdle, Xu Qingshui proactively asked, “What’s wrong? Are you stuck on something? If you tell me, I might have some ideas.”
Before she could finish, Fu Jinghua’s frown deepened, as if she had encountered something difficult—but there was more than a hint of loathing in it.
Loathing?
Xu Qingshui had a bad premonition. Sure enough, Fu Jinghua spoke up a second later. “Someone called your phone just now. It was very noisy.”
…So that was why.
Is such an unavoidable thing worth being this angry over?
Xu Qingshui opened her phone and saw the caller ID, immediately forming a guess. She probably thinks I’m going out to play with those ‘friends’ again.
But… could it be concern?
Xu Qingshui asked bluntly, “Did you see who called?”
Fu Jinghua, thinking she was being interrogated, grew instantly displeased. “Your screen was so bright; isn’t it normal that I saw it?”
So she did see it? And her tone is still so sharp.
Xu Qingshui was fairly certain of the reason: it was indeed because of the “bad crowd.” The original owner was a nouveau riche, and many of her so-called “friends” actually viewed her as a joke, respecting her far less than they respected her partner, Fu Jinghua. That was exactly why, despite her not going out for days, no one had bothered to check on her.
So this phone call was indeed quite bizarre.
It was no wonder Fu Jinghua was angry; she likely assumed Xu Qingshui was still in contact with that group.
Xu Qingshui explained, “I haven’t contacted them. I don’t know why they called; they probably have the wrong number.”
Fu Jinghua’s expression faltered, softening slightly, but she quickly snapped back: “It’s not like I asked you for an explanation.”
Stubborn. Xu Qingshui had already figured out Fu Jinghua’s temperament; she could understand the woman’s thoughts just by observing her body language and expressions. It seemed the anger had dissipated.
Xu Qingshui gave an “Oh” and moved her phone away. “I’m going back to the room first.” She paused, then asked, “Should I leave a light on for you?”
God as her witness, Xu Qingshui had no ulterior motives when she said this; it was a simple inquiry. Yet she saw Fu Jinghua suddenly close her laptop and say, “I’ll go with you.”
After a beat, she added, “I’ll shower first.”
Xu Qingshui raised an eyebrow, her gaze almost scrutinizing Fu Jinghua. The latter remained expressionless, acting as if she hadn’t heard anything.
If their sleep schedules were different, it would be fine, but when they aligned—especially between an Alpha and an Omega—it inevitably felt a bit awkward.
Is she doing it on purpose? Or did she just finish her work?
Xu Qingshui couldn’t tell. Looking at the woman’s somewhat cold back, she felt her own suspicions were baseless. She wasn’t a person driven by lust, nor did she have any intention of using pheromones to suppress the other. Though her understanding of this world taught her that an Alpha’s attraction to a previously marked Omega during their cycle was incredibly strong, she knew how easily she could “induce” the other.
But their contract existed to avoid such risks. And Xu Qingshui didn’t want to do that.
She thought of Grandmother’s words—how she hoped Fu Jinghua could have a happy family. Fu Jinghua would eventually become powerful enough to escape those who wanted to possess her; surely she would find someone better. Xu Qingshui didn’t want to get in her way right now.
So, while Fu Jinghua was showering, Xu Qingshui neatly arranged two separate blankets on either side of the bed. She took her side and even slept with her back toward Fu Jinghua’s end.
She closed her eyes, creating a clear “boundary” between them. By the time Fu Jinghua came over, Xu Qingshui had already fallen into a deep sleep.
Xu Qingshui had left a small bedside lamp on, its warm glow making her features look soft and beautiful. Despite Fu Jinghua’s reluctance to admit it, Xu Qingshui truly did have a lovely face. This was likely why she hadn’t managed to “destroy” the woman back then.
Xu Qingshui seemed to be sleeping soundly. She turned slightly in her sleep, accidentally revealing the mole on her collarbone. Against her pale skin, the mole looked particularly striking.
Even though Xu Qingshui was doing nothing and releasing no pheromones, Fu Jinghua couldn’t help but stare at the mole for a few extra seconds.
Once she realized what she was doing, Fu Jinghua was first stunned, then grew annoyed.
It’s all Xu Qingshui’s fault.
She had clearly given the woman signals earlier, yet Xu Qingshui was acting like a block of wood and had actually fallen asleep. Fu Jinghua knew her irritation came from the disappointment that Xu Qingshui hadn’t picked up on her meaning.
But she also realized she had been perhaps too subtle. Still, she was so angry.
How can someone so clever usually be so dense now? Couldn’t she have just asked?
Now she couldn’t get any pheromones.
Xu Qingshui really… doesn’t know what’s good for her!
