Accidentally Picked Up a Rich and Amnesiac Alpha (GL) - Chapter 53
S City Ningkang Hospital was the city’s finest private hospital.
When Jing Michu arrived with her cousin, Qiao An, Housekeeper Xiong, and a maid were already waiting at the hospital.
Song Tingxue, guided by the medical staff, accompanied Yan Qingqi through her checkup. The attending physician reviewed her condition, changed her medication and bandages, and finally wheeled Yan Qingqi back to the ward.
The private hospital’s VIP suite was every bit as good as the one at Huatian in B City, with better facilities—and, of course, a higher price.
Qiao An greeted them. “Hello, Cousin! Hello, Wife!”
Song Tingxue had met Qiao An a few times before and had even shared a meal with her. She felt warmly familiar with her now.
Yan Qingqi introduced her. “Songsong, you’ve met Qiao An, so no need for further introductions. She and Xiao Chu are getting married in two months.”
Song Tingxue: “Congratulations!”
Qiao An held Jing Michu’s arm, smiling happily. “Thank you!”
Yan Qingqi then introduced the housekeeper. “Songsong, this is Aunt Xiong, the housekeeper. Aunt Xiong has been with our family since my grandmother’s generation. Aunt Xiong, this is my wife. We registered our marriage in L City.”
Housekeeper Xiong’s eyes showed a flicker of surprise, but she quickly smiled, addressing Song Tingxue respectfully: “Hello, Madam! Please command me if you need anything.”
This was the first time Song Tingxue had been addressed as “Madam” so respectfully in real life. She felt a little flustered.
Yan Qingqi chuckled, gently pulling her hand. “Empress, are you stuck? You should tell her to rise.”
Everyone in the room laughed.
Jing Michu: “An An, why don’t you keep my wife company? Offer her some tea.”
“Of course.” Qiao An pulled Song Tingxue out. “Wife, let’s sit in the living room. I brought some tea for you to try. Do you prefer tea or coffee?”
Song Tingxue: “I like both. I usually drink coffee more often.”
“Then let’s have tea today. We can drink coffee together later.” Qiao An sounded a little excited, holding Song Tingxue’s arm. “I can’t believe a big celebrity is my sister-in-law! I’m so surprised and happy!”
Song Tingxue hadn’t realized Qiao An was a bit of a fan.
The two sat on the sofa. Aunt Xiong and the maid, Xiao Sheng, brewed tea, served pastries, and arranged several kinds of beautifully sliced fruit on small, elegant dishes, complete with delicate forks and accompanying hand towels.
Song Tingxue watched silently. The attention to detail and the well-trained servants indicated that the Wen family was indeed extraordinarily wealthy. Since Aunt Xiong served the family during A-Yan’s grandmother’s time, the Wen family’s prosperity had spanned at least three generations.
Inside the ward, Jing Michu waved her hand in front of Yan Qingqi’s face.
Yan Qingqi: “What are you doing? I’m not blind. Wave again, and I’ll break your hand.”
Jing Michu gasped. “It really is my cousin! That familiar, affectionate, yet vicious tone!”
Yan Qingqi gave her a look.
“Cousin, do you remember everything now? You know Aunt Xiong was with the family when she was young. Let me ask you, how old is Aunt Xiong this year?”
“Fifty-six. She was 55 last year. I gave Aunt Xiong a gold necklace and a pair of gold bracelets.”
Jing Michu instantly became excited. “Cousin, when did you recover your memory?”
“When I was shot and lying on the operating table, I remembered everything. Grandmother, Mom and Dad, Aunt, Uncle, and Manman.”
At the mention of Manman, an awkward silence fell over the room.
After a moment, Jing Michu asked, “What exactly happened the day you had the accident?”
Yan Qingqi’s eyes narrowed. “I received a phone call that day… later, I passed out on the surfboard. When I woke up, I was on the beach. A cleaning lady saw me. She must have been scared by how soaked and disheveled I was, looking like I had washed up from the sea. She ran off. I don’t know if she went to call someone or just ran away scared.”
Jing Michu handed her a glass of water. “What happened next? Did you meet your wife then?”
Yan Qingqi took the water, rested, and continued. “No. It was daytime then. I remember the sun shining on me. I crawled up from the sand, pulled the seaweed out of my hair. My mind was blank. I didn’t know what I was supposed to be doing.”
Jing Michu was startled. “What did you do after that?”
“I wandered along the road for half a day in a daze. People who saw me looked at me like I was crazy. They deliberately walked around me, avoiding me. That night, I reached a villa area. I saw the lights on, and I suddenly remembered I could make a phone call. But I searched myself for ages and couldn’t find my phone. I decided to borrow a phone to call someone named Jing something.”
Jing Michu exclaimed, “Yes, yes! Call me!”
“I crossed the road. I had just reached the shade of the trees in front of a villa when suddenly, people rushed out with sticks and started beating me over the head. There were several of them. I was completely exhausted then and couldn’t fight them off. They quickly knocked me to the ground, hitting my head and back with the sticks. They kicked and punched me a bit and then stopped. When I crawled up, I realized I was bleeding from my head.”
Jing Michu was furious. “Who were those people?! How dare they beat you?”
But they only beat her and didn’t kill her, which meant they weren’t after her life.
“I don’t know who they were. I think I heard them drive away. Then I passed out on the roadside. The next thing I knew, I was in the hospital.” Yan Qingqi curved her lips. “Songsong picked me up and took me to the hospital.”
“Well, that was certainly a destined encounter between you and your wife.”
Jing Michu sat beside her, dropping her joking tone. “Cousin, I don’t know who is targeting you, but I have a feeling Yang Yifan is involved. You need to be careful of him.”
Yan Qingqi: “Why do you say that?”
“During the days you were missing, Yang Yifan happened to be on a business trip to Country A. I didn’t notice at first, but I accidentally overheard his subordinates muttering that he never takes international business trips, yet he went this time even though there was nothing particularly important.”
“Did you investigate?”
“I did. Indeed, he rarely travels abroad. He usually sends his subordinates on international trips. The most he travels domestically is to B City. But right around the time you went missing, he intentionally traveled abroad. Cousin, what do you make of that?”
Yan Qingqi’s eyes narrowed. “He’s guilty, so he deliberately established an alibi.”
Jing Michu’s eyes lit up. “Exactly! He did it to show everyone, ‘I have nothing to do with this.’ Cousin, you’re brilliant! Also, after your shooting, I immediately called Aunt Xiong. Only a very small number of people knew you were in H City.
“I asked Aunt Xiong who might have leaked the news that you were in H City. “Aunt Xiong assured me no one did. Only she and Xiao Sheng were responsible for mailing the vegetables. If anyone asked, she just said she was sending them to the Miss’s friend.
“Then I asked her if anything unusual had happened recently. “Aunt Xiong told me a small detail. She said the courier who picks up the packages told her yesterday that your beer was quite good and asked what brand it was. He regretted throwing away the can that day.”
Jing Michu sneered. “Cousin, you know, Yang Yifan had given him a can a few days earlier.”
Yan Qingqi pursed her lips. “Then he’s the one.”
At noon, everyone ate in the dining area outside. Yan Qingqi also sat at the table to eat with them.
Yan Qingqi was still recovering from surgery and ate lightly and sparingly, but she constantly put food on Song Tingxue’s plate. “You didn’t eat properly yesterday. Eat more today. Aunt Xiong and Xiao Sheng are here, so you don’t need to worry.”
Housekeeper Xiong saw this and smiled with relief. The Miss and her wife clearly had a deep affection for each other.
After lunch, Jing Michu and Qiao An prepared to leave. “Cousin, I’ll visit you again tonight.”
Yan Qingqi: “No need. You should rest and spend time with Xiao An. If you want to see me, come tomorrow. I’ll only see you once a day at most.”
As the two were about to open the door, it was opened from the outside.
A tall, slender figure appeared in the doorway, strikingly elegant, bringing with her a fragrant breeze.
Jing Michu’s eyes widened. “Sister Kong?! Why are you… here so early?”
The person was Kong Yueshu, the heiress of Sunshine Group.
Jing Michu quickly gave Qiao An a look. “An An, why don’t you briefly tell Sister Kong about my cousin’s condition? I’m going to check if my cousin is awake.”
With that, she almost sprinted into the inner ward.
Yan Qingqi had just lain down. Her eyelids flickered. “What’s wrong with you? I just said I’d only see you once a day, and you’re back again?”
“Cousin, Kong Yueshu is here!”
“Kong Yueshu?”
Yan Qingqi blinked, remembering the familiar name. Chairman Kong’s daughter, CEO of Sunshine Group.
“It’s an unfortunate coincidence. I received the call about your accident yesterday when I was in a meeting with her. I interrupted the meeting, saying I had an emergency. She followed me out, asking if something had happened to you, Cousin. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have rushed so much. “Since she guessed, I couldn’t completely hide it. I just said you had an incident and I had to fly out of town. She originally wanted to go with me to H City, but I persuaded her to stay.
“She called me several times yesterday, asking about your condition and insisting on flying to H City to see you. I told her you had successful surgery, passed the danger period, and were asleep, and that you planned to transfer back to Ningkang in S City today. It took a lot of convincing for her not to rush to H City. I didn’t expect her to show up this early today.”
Jing Michu wiped the sweat from her forehead. “Cousin, your memory is back now. You must know how Sister Kong feels about you. She doesn’t know you’re married, and she doesn’t know your wife exists. You were single before you disappeared and had no romantic partners. You need to handle this yourself. I’m leaving.”
Yan Qingqi: “…”
She was a patient who had just returned from the gates of hell. Why did she have to face so much all at once?
In the outer living room, Qiao An was telling Kong Yueshu about Yan Qingqi’s condition, the location of the wound, when she transferred to Ningkang, and how the danger period was over…
But Kong Yueshu’s attention was immediately drawn to the other woman in the room—a very beautiful, elegant person, cool as snow, exuding an air of aloofness when she didn’t smile.
She stared intently at this woman.
Her innate Omega intuition told her that this cool, snow-like woman had an unusual relationship with Wen Shuyan.
“I recognize you. You’re the celebrity, Song Tingxue, right?”
Song Tingxue also looked at the woman before her—dressed in designer clothes, poised and sharp, carrying the air of a business magnate like Jing Michu. She nodded slightly, offering a polite smile. “I am Song Tingxue.”
Qiao An paused awkwardly, trying to introduce them. “This is Miss Kong. The Wen and Kong families are old friends. Miss Kong is also a good friend of my cousin and Xiao Chu. And this is, ahem, this is my cousin’s…”
Jing Michu burst out of the inner ward like a whirlwind, grabbing Qiao An. “An An, we’ve disturbed them long enough. Time to go.”
Qiao An was eager to escape the awkwardness between the legitimate wife and the woman who wanted to be the wife. She told Song Tingxue, “Then, Xiao Chu and I will come back tomorrow. We’re leaving now.”
Song Tingxue nodded. “I’ll see you out.”
“No, no need! Really, no need!”
In the living room, Kong Yueshu frowned, tasting the words “I’ll see you out.” It sounded like the woman was asserting herself as the hostess.
Kong Yueshu quickly dismissed the thought. Perhaps this celebrity was here for some reason and was just overly enthusiastic toward Jing Michu and Qiao An. As for the reason, she would soon find out. She would ask Wen Shuyan.
Kong Yueshu avoided Song Tingxue’s gaze and headed toward the inner ward.
Song Tingxue followed closely, intending to enter as well. Kong Yueshu paused, turning her head coldly. “Stay outside.”
Song Tingxue: “…”
Aunt Xiong, witnessing this, was about to say something when a voice drifted from the half-open door of the inner ward. “Songsong, come in too.”
Kong Yueshu was slightly taken aback. As Song Tingxue responded and walked into the ward, a look of surprise crossed Kong Yueshu’s face.
“Shuyan.”
“A-Yan.”
The two voices spoke almost simultaneously.
Yan Qingqi looked up at the two Omegas approaching her, one on the left, one on the right.
Kong Yueshu quickly rushed to the bedside and leaned down. “Shuyan, how do you feel now?”
Yan Qingqi avoided her concerned look. “I’m much better now. I’m fine. Thank you for your concern.”
“I haven’t introduced you two yet.” Yan Qingqi smiled at Song Tingxue and took her hand. “Songsong, this is Miss Kong.”
Song Tingxue: “I know. An An introduced us just now. Your families are old friends.”
Yan Qingqi turned to Kong Yueshu, who was staring intently at her hand holding Songsong’s.
“Yueshu, let me introduce you. This is my wife, Song Tingxue.”
Kong Yueshu’s mind went blank. She felt something collapse inside her. Her blood froze, and her heart stopped beating for a moment.
“She, she is your wife?” After a long pause, Kong Yueshu managed to turn her head, her face pale, staring intensely at Wen Shuyan, desperately trying to keep her voice from cracking. “You’re married? Since when?”
Hearing this, Song Tingxue couldn’t help but look at Miss Kong again.
“I left S City for a few months, as you probably know. I unexpectedly met Songsong while I was away. I love her very much, and she loves me very much, so we registered our marriage. That’s it.”
“That’s it?”
“Yes, that’s it. Songsong and I love each other. Isn’t it normal for us to get married? I don’t care if she’s a celebrity or an ordinary person.”
Kong Yueshu curved her lips, her smile worse than a cry. “It seems you really love her.”
“Mhm. I love Songsong very much. I’m grateful that I met Songsong.” Yan Qingqi’s lips curved upward. “I never knew what I wanted my partner to be like, but when I met Songsong, I knew. She is the person I want to spend my life with.”
Kong Yueshu looked into those bright, clear eyes, which reflected the sunlight streaming through the window, sparkling like stars.
It was an expression of joy and vitality she had never seen before.
Kong Yueshu dug her nails fiercely into her palm. The pain radiated through her body, allowing her to remain standing steadily in front of Wen Shuyan. Her chest ached sharply, and she struggled to breathe, as if she were the one with the injury.
Yan Qingqi saw her looking so distraught. Although she felt pity, she knew this day would come sooner or later.
She was aware of Kong Yueshu’s feelings for her, but she truly only ever considered her a friend—an old friend she had known since childhood, like a cousin.
When her aunt tried to match her with Kong Yueshu, Wen Shuyan had clearly refused. Later, she spoke to her aunt privately, explaining that Kong Yueshu was not a bad choice—quite the opposite; she was exceptional in looks, background, education, and ability—but she had simply never considered her romantically.
Since then, she had intentionally minimized her one-on-one contact with Kong Yueshu, having Jing Michu handle their joint projects. However, Jing Michu still told her that Kong Yueshu would ask about her every time.
A long silence filled the ward.
“Yueshu,” Yan Qingqi wanted to ask, Are you alright? But the words stopped short. Afraid of giving her unrealistic hope, she changed her question. “Have you been too busy recently?” She called Aunt Xiong. “Aunt Xiong, please make Miss Kong a cup of tea.”
“No, no,” Kong Yueshu suddenly snapped back to reality, forcing a terrible smile. “Congratulations, Shuyan. Congratulations! Since you’re fine, I should leave. Goodbye.”
She almost fled, her high heels clicking rapidly on the polished floor tiles as she rushed away in a panic.
Song Tingxue stared at her retreating figure, her expression complicated.
She was an Omega and an actress. She could clearly see the unusual distress of Miss Kong.
“A-Yan, does Miss Kong… like you?”
Yan Qingqi sighed heavily. “Yes, she had feelings for me. I found out two years ago when my aunt asked for my intentions at the New Year’s family dinner. She wanted to matchmake Yueshu and me.
“I’m sorry, I call her Yueshu because she, Xiao Chu, Huiyu, and I used to play together often as children. We have a good relationship. I always saw her like a cousin, and I used to call her Sister Kong, following Xiao Chu. Huiyu prefers to call her Sister Yue.
“When she returned from studying abroad three years ago and started taking over Sunshine Group, she asked me not to call her Sister Kong anymore. She said we were the same age, and calling her ‘Sister’ made her feel old.”
Song Tingxue smiled slightly.
No girl wants to hear the person they like call them “Sister.”
“I clarified my feelings to my aunt.”
“I told her, ‘Aunt, how could I have those kinds of feelings for my cousin or sister? You understand what I mean, right? It’s like I couldn’t have those feelings for Xiao Chu either.’”
Song Tingxue couldn’t help but laugh. “What was your aunt’s reaction?”
“What reaction could she have? My aunt was shocked. She immediately said we couldn’t ruin Miss Kong’s chances and said she would drop hints to her.
“Before she left, my aunt worriedly asked me if there was truly no romantic potential between Xiao Chu and me. And if Xiao Chu had developed feelings for me.
“Listen to that. My aunt’s imagination is something else.”
Song Tingxue was in good spirits and said casually, “What would you do if Jing Michu really liked you, her cousin?”
Yan Qingqi’s eyes flickered. She lowered her head, seemingly remembering something. “Impossible. We are sisters. I only have sisterly affection for her.”
In a luxury box at a bar late that night, Kong Yueshu was drinking wildly.
Close to 11 p.m., almost exactly on schedule, her phone rang.
Kong Yueshu picked up her phone, seeing the familiar caller ID. A surge of blind, intense anger rose within her. She coldly swiped to answer.
“Hello, Sister Yue. Are you still busy?”
“No, I’m not. Say what you need to say.”
“I went to see Sister Shuyan today. She’s much better. We ate Kung Pao chicken together today. She cooked it herself. You know Sister Shuyan’s cooking is always excellent. The Kung Pao chicken wasn’t too spicy; I could even eat some.” Wen Huiyu spoke slowly on the phone, like she was just chatting casually.
Kong Yueshu’s eyes grew colder. She suddenly remembered that when she saw Song Tingxue today, she was wearing a hat. Her hair was short—too short for most Omegas.
“What about your sister’s hair? She had brain surgery. Her hair should have been shaved off, right?”
There was a slight pause on the other end. “Her hair was shaved, but it’s growing back now. It’s about five or six centimeters long.”
Kong Yueshu sneered. “Why are there no pictures?”
“Pictures? Pictures… Sister Shuyan doesn’t want pictures taken. She’s afraid of having ugly pictures taken…”
“Enough!” Kong Yueshu gripped the phone, her pent-up fury roaring out. “Wen Huiyu! How long are you going to keep lying to me?! Wen Shuyan was never in B City! The one who had the craniotomy was Song Tingxue, wasn’t it?!”
Wen Huiyu was frozen stiff on the other end of the line, her blood stopping cold. “You, Sister Yue, I…”
“I saw Wen Shuyan today! And I saw Song Tingxue! They were in S City!
“If I hadn’t run into your sister, how long would you have kept lying to me?!
“Is lying fun? You’ve deceived me like this for so many days. Don’t you think it’s tiresome? Or do you think I’m stupid and easily fooled? So you get your kicks by messing with me every now and then?
“It’s no secret that I like your cousin. You must know that too. When you were telling me these lies, tricking me, did you think it was hilarious that I was so hopelessly devoted and stupid?
“Like playing with a stray cat or dog that’s been hungry for days. You throw out bait, and it takes the hook. You take it home, and then you can manipulate it as viciously and wickedly as you please.”
“No, that’s not what I meant,” Wen Huiyu clarified in vain. “I’m not that twisted. I would never treat a small animal with such malice.”
“The three of you are all rotten! Jing Michu has been bad since childhood, so I’ll forgive her for lying, but I can’t believe even you would deceive and hide things from me?! Were you just waiting to see me make a fool of myself?! Waiting to see me foolishly run to your sister?!”
“No, that’s not it… I never wanted to see you make a fool of yourself.”
“Is my liking your sister a heinous crime? Do I deserve to be laughed at by you all?!”
Kong Yueshu could no longer hold herself up. She cried brokenly, remembering Wen Shuyan holding Song Tingxue’s hand and saying she was the person she wanted to spend her life with. Kong Yueshu broke down again, sobbing and cursing. “Wen Huiyu, get out! I never want to see you again!”
The call was abruptly cut off.
Wen Huiyu stood frozen, petrified.
A night breeze blew in through the window. Autumn had long passed, and the air held a distinct chill.
It should have been a cool, refreshing wind, but Wen Huiyu felt her heart turn ice-cold. She was shivering all over.
Was she hated now?
Sister Yue must detest and despise her now!
Wen Huiyu slumped into a chair. Her clothes were stained with spots of blood. She had rushed back from the hospital, and in her hurry to call Kong Yueshu at their almost-fixed time, she accidentally tripped on the stairs, supporting herself with her elbow on the ground. However, she bit her lip, which bled profusely.
The housekeeper rushed over to help her up. “Miss, where are you hurt? Ah, you’re bleeding! Should I take you to the hospital?”
“No need. Just get me some iodine and gauze.”
Wen Huiyu limped away to clean her wound herself. She sat down at her desk, pressing gauze to the wound to stop the bleeding, and picked up the stack of draft papers to call Kong Yueshu.
Wen Huiyu sat blankly, glancing at her desk. It was covered in sheets of paper—the drafts of the conversations she prepared for Sister Yue. She wrote down everything she saw and heard during her daily checkups with Song Tingxue, adding her own estimations based on the expected recovery speed. This gave her a reason to call Sister Yue.
Listening to her voice, talking to her, it felt as if Kong Yueshu was right there beside her.
But this was ultimately her own fantasy.
The reality was, “Wen Huiyu, get out! I never want to see you again!”
Wen Huiyu looked up. She twisted open the bottle of iodine. The gauze she pressed to her lips had already fallen away. She picked up a cotton swab and soaked it in iodine.
The iodine burned intensely on the wound.
Wen Huiyu seemed not to feel it. Her lips twitched reflexively, then returned to their usual defeated resignation.
Author’s Note:
Kong Yueshu: I’m heartbroken.
Wen Huiyu: I’m also heartbroken.
Yan Qingqi: I almost had a literal heart break.
Song Tingxue: If A-Yan were heartbroken, I’d be even more heartbroken.
