Acting Out of Character (GL) - Chapter 22
Once Chen Ge started talking to her mother on the phone, she seemingly had no intention of stopping. They chatted continuously for over half an hour.
Luo Jingyi found it rather novel. After all, whether she called or video-chatted with her own mother, they always hung up within five minutes.
If a call lasted ten minutes, it could only mean that they had started arguing.
Chen Ge’s conversation with her mother was quite detailed. She talked about work and the little things in her daily life, patiently listening while her mother rambled about various trivial matters.
After hanging up, Chen Ge realized that Luo Jingyi had remained completely silent to create a comfortable atmosphere for her call. She had spent the entire half hour looking at her computer without saying a word, which must have felt rather restrictive.
Chen Ge said apologetically, “Sorry, Sister Luo. My mother lives alone in our hometown and usually doesn’t have anyone to talk to, so she tends to ramble a little whenever she calls me.”
So she was a child from a single-parent family. No wonder she seemed so mature and knew how to care about others.
Luo Jingyi shook her head. “Don’t rush to apologize to me. There’s something I need to tell you.”
Ever since graduating, the sentence Chen Ge feared most was, “There’s something I need to tell you.”
Under normal circumstances, it either meant she had done something wrong and was about to be criticized, or someone was about to deliver bad news.
Chen Ge nearly sprang to her feet and stood at attention.
“What is it…?”
Sitting before the desk, Luo Jingyi lifted her gaze from the laptop. Chen Ge’s nervous expression was somewhat amusing.
“Don’t be nervous. Relax. I meant to tell you earlier, but Xiao Su interrupted us, and I nearly forgot.”
After sending an email, Luo Jingyi calmly continued typing.
“I called the front desk earlier because I wanted them to add a bed for you. They told me it’s currently peak tourist season, and all the extra beds have already been taken. There aren’t any available now. So you’ll probably have to sleep with me tonight.”
After hearing her explanation, Chen Ge relaxed slightly.
“I thought it was something serious. That’s fine. As long as you’re comfortable with it, Sister Luo, I certainly don’t have a problem.”
Chen Ge: You’re gay and I’m straight. If you don’t feel uncomfortable, then I definitely won’t.
Luo Jingyi: Not bad. This little lesbian has a remarkably stable mentality. Though if you knew the person sharing your bed was someone you’d admired for years, I wonder whether you could remain this calm.
Sharing a bed was not particularly difficult for Chen Ge.
Throughout her childhood, her family had lived in a tiny studio apartment. She and her mother had always squeezed into the same bed. When she left for university, she shared a dormitory room with six other people.
Although they did not sleep in the same bed, the students in the dorm lived in close quarters. They stayed in the same room day and night. No matter what they did, someone always seemed to be nearby, leaving almost no private space.
After she began working, she remained poor and continued sharing apartments with others, constantly overhearing their private affairs.
Even though Chen Ge did not particularly like being too close to others and had always wanted a private space of her own, she had actually grown accustomed to the presence of other people in her life.
So when Luo Jingyi said they would sleep together, she genuinely did not feel much about it.
Chen Ge thought that even if Sister Luo was gay, she had just broken up with her ex and argued with her. She probably had no interest in thinking about anything else.
More importantly, Sister Luo appeared to be exceptionally refined and distant. She paid close attention to even a single fallen strand of hair, so she would never casually develop feelings for just anyone.
With that thought, Chen Ge’s heart settled safely back into place.
Luo Jingyi, however, was completely different.
On the day she began elementary school, she decided that she had already grown up and was no longer a five-year-old child. She strongly demanded that she and her mother sleep in separate rooms.
From then on, she had never shared a bed with anyone.
She disliked the ugly sight of people sleeping with their mouths open and their warm, scented breath, not to mention the possibility of thunderous snoring.
The first time Luo Jingyi traveled alone with Feng Yunxin during their student years, she insisted on reserving two separate rooms.
Feng Yunxin was utterly confused. “Isn’t that incredibly wasteful? That bed is two meters wide. Another person could sleep between us, yet you still insist on sleeping separately?”
Luo Jingyi said, “Separately.”
“Do you think money isn’t money?”
At the time, Luo Jingyi had already published articles in several literary magazines and earned nearly a thousand yuan in writing fees every month. She threw out one sentence:
“I’ll pay. I’ll pay for your room too.”
“…”
Feng Yunxin immediately fell silent.
Before Chen Ge, Luo Jingyi had never found anyone whose company felt completely comfortable.
Even Feng Yunxin merely seemed less dirty than most people. Luo Jingyi could barely tolerate sitting on the sofa in her home.
But Chen Ge had never disappointed her in any of the small details Luo Jingyi had secretly observed.
This child should be quite clean.
It was the first time Luo Jingyi had felt secure around someone she barely knew.
Since she had finally encountered someone who put her at ease, Luo Jingyi wanted to test whether she could become more intimately comfortable with another person.
Chen Ge was her experiment.
It had been a long day. Luo Jingyi had filmed, cared for a sick person, and replied to several emails that evening. She was genuinely exhausted.
Yet when she and Chen Ge lay together on the same bed, she still could not fall asleep peacefully.
Chen Ge had turned her back toward her and curled up at the very edge of the bed. There was enough space for one and a half people between them, and Chen Ge occupied only a narrow strip, as though the slightest movement would send her falling to the floor.
Chen Ge understood proper manners and devoted herself entirely to maintaining the arrangement most comfortable for Luo Jingyi.
But Luo Jingyi still could not sleep.
She lay flat on the bed, closed her eyes, then opened them.
Closed them, then opened them again. She felt like a vampire lying inside a coffin, having lived for a thousand years and being unable to die no matter how hard she tried.
It seemed she still could not do it.
Not feeling disgusted was completely different from being able to share a bed naturally and comfortably with another person.
Luo Jingyi tried to empty her mind and search for sleep.
Perhaps because Chen Ge slept so quietly—Luo Jingyi could not see her sleeping face, could barely feel her breathing, and did not hear even the faintest snore despite the exhausting day—her thoughts gradually drifted until the shallowest layer of dreams finally captured her.
She did not know when she sank into sleep.
But the sensation of being awakened by a vibrating phone was exceptionally clear.
Bzz—
Chen Ge’s phone, placed on the bedside table on Luo Jingyi’s side, vibrated and woke both of them.
Chen Ge reacted extremely quickly, as though she had never truly fallen asleep. Almost the instant the phone vibrated, she reached out and grabbed it.
Afraid of waking Luo Jingyi, Chen Ge saw that it was an unfamiliar number and immediately declined the call.
She quietly turned her head and looked toward Luo Jingyi with concern.
Luo Jingyi was already fully awake, but she had not changed her position or opened her eyes. She appeared to still be sleeping soundly.
Chen Ge sighed in relief. Using her body to shield the phone’s light, she looked at the unfamiliar number in her missed calls.
Salespeople and scammers should already be asleep at this hour. Who would call her now?
An unpleasant feeling arose in Chen Ge’s heart.
Suddenly, the phone began vibrating again.
It was another call from the same number.
Chen Ge pressed the phone against her chest to reduce the sound of the vibrations.
Then she carefully climbed out of bed.
Fortunately, the mattress offered excellent support. Chen Ge could move on her side without creating the slightest disturbance on Luo Jingyi’s.
When Chen Ge carried her phone into the living room, Luo Jingyi opened her eyes.
Wonderful. Now she had no sleepiness left at all.
Luo Jingyi simply got out of bed to drink some water.
The bedroom door had been left slightly open. Chen Ge stood before the floor-to-ceiling window in the living room, staring at the pitch-black mountains outside.
During the day, Wuyi Mountain’s strange stones and solitary peaks appeared almost immortal. At night, however, they transformed completely into sinister ghosts lying in ambush beneath the dark sky.
After thinking for a moment, Chen Ge answered the call.
Before anyone spoke on the other end, a gentle strand of orchestral music entered Chen Ge’s ears.
The dreamlike flute melody was the opening of Debussy’s Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune.
The flute sounded graceful, drifting, and languid.
Soon, the velvety, rounded, soothing sound of a French horn blended with the flute, joined by the delicate notes of a harp. It was as though one had entered a beautiful, comfortable, yet uncertain dream where the ground might disappear beneath one’s feet at any moment.
But when Chen Ge heard the familiar, beautiful melody, it felt as though lightning had struck directly through her skull.
Her heart beat violently. Moonlight spread across her rigid face, like the gorgeous climactic instant in a tragic film when its most beautiful heroine fell to her death.
Chen Ge’s knuckles turned pale around the phone. Her throat felt blocked by a wad of waterlogged cotton.
She could not speak, and even breathing carried the danger of drowning at any moment.
After sharing her silence for a while, the person on the other end gave a quiet laugh.
That tiny sound alone was enough for Chen Ge to recognize her.
“Xiao Ge.”
The woman’s voice was articulate and carried a clear smile, smooth as jade.
The way she addressed Chen Ge was intimate, like calling a beloved pet cat.
Chen Ge did not respond.
The other woman did not mind her coldness and continued almost as though talking to herself:
“It’s been three months since we last met, hasn’t it? I heard you recently went to Li Village to film a web variety show. How pitiful. A promising young actress with such proper credentials has actually fallen this far.”
The woman continued:
“If this goes on, your career will be ruined. Do you regret it?”
Chen Ge closed her eyes and took a deep breath, forcing her voice to remain steady and refusing to let the woman provoke her.
“Whatever I do has nothing to do with you.”
The woman sat on a wide, soft leather sofa, holding a glass of Pinot Noir. The rim bore the imprint of her vivid lipstick.
She was inside her office. The busy, congested night scenery of Beijing’s eastern Third Ring Road reflected across the wineglass, compressed into a streak of light she could seemingly hold within her hand.
She took a small sip of the wine, whose balance of fruitiness and acidity pleased her greatly, then smiled.
“How could it have nothing to do with me? I still remember every detail of the night we spent together.”
Hearing those words, Chen Ge’s ears burned as though pressed against red-hot iron.
She lowered her voice.
“President Wei, please stop calling and harassing me. Otherwise, I will report you to the police.”
The woman surnamed Wei had teased her to this extent, yet Chen Ge’s voice remained quiet and controlled. She was clearly suppressing herself deliberately, as though she did not want to disturb someone nearby. It was different from their previous calls.
The woman surnamed Wei considered this for a moment and asked:
“Who are you with?”
Chen Ge had not expected her to be so perceptive. She gave no answer and ended the call immediately.
The call had neither beginning nor conclusion, like a piece of entertainment selected casually during a sleepless midnight.
To the woman surnamed Wei, it was merely a small joke. But to Chen Ge, it was enough to leave her emotions in turmoil.
Chen Ge blocked this number too and stood silently beside the window for a long time, still holding her phone.
Her head began aching faintly. After visiting the bathroom, she quietly returned to the bedroom.
Luo Jingyi was still lying in bed. Chen Ge felt relieved. She probably had not disturbed her.
Chen Ge returned to bed and lay down, unable to sleep.
She also did not dare turn over. She curled up in her previous position, pressed against that narrow strip at the edge of the bed.
She had worked hard and fallen ill during the day. Now she could not stretch out, had to maintain her balance with difficulty, and still needed to search for sleep.
This was Chen Ge’s current situation.
She worked hard to move forward yet could never find a direction.
…
Luo Jingyi opened her eyes and silently turned her head toward Chen Ge.
The blanket covered Chen Ge to the waist, concealing her lower body.
Her water-like long hair lay smoothly across the pillow. Beneath the cold moonlight, her narrow shoulders appeared fragile and lonely.
Luo Jingyi did not know when she fell asleep again. When she next awakened, daylight had already arrived.
The intense southern summer sunlight was barely blocked by the hotel’s heavy curtains, leaving a thin golden border.
Luo Jingyi discovered that she had shifted from lying flat on her back to sleeping on her side.
Chen Ge, meanwhile, was now lying face-up.
She was already awake and staring at the ceiling, lost in thought.
The distance between them had changed from enough space for one and a half people when they fell asleep to less than half a person now.
They were unexpectedly close…
Luo Jingyi could clearly see Chen Ge’s thick eyelashes.
The beautiful mole on her neck was also directly before her eyes.
But how had the distance between them suddenly become so small?
Luo Jingyi felt somewhat displeased.
Noticing that Luo Jingyi had awakened, Chen Ge instinctively turned her head.
“Sister Luo, you’re awake?”
Chen Ge probably had not slept well. There were faint shadows beneath her eyes, and the rims were slightly red and swollen. Her originally slender, healthy face now carried a hazy fragility.
They were already extremely close. When she turned, the tips of their noses nearly touched.
Chen Ge seemed to have misjudged the distance. The moment she sensed how little space separated them, she immediately turned her face away again.
Luo Jingyi sighed internally.
What was wrong with this child? She was not particularly well-behaved in her sleep. She had gradually moved closer during the night.
Just as Luo Jingyi silently complained, she suddenly realized that her leg was pressing against something soft.
It felt rather comfortable, so she even rubbed against it.
Chen Ge’s expression became extremely awkward at the movement, and her body trembled faintly beyond her control.
Luo Jingyi looked down.
Her long leg was bent and firmly resting on top of Chen Ge’s leg.
Originally, her knee had still been some distance away from a very sensitive place. But after that small rubbing motion, it seemed to have brushed directly against it.
Luo Jingyi: “…”
Chen Ge, who had been pinned down all morning and had not dared move: “…”
Luo Jingyi immediately withdrew her leg and noticed the large stretch of empty bed behind her.
So she was the one who slept restlessly.
She had rolled toward Chen Ge during the night, crowded her against the edge, then pinned her down and prevented her from moving.
The instant Luo Jingyi pulled her leg away, Chen Ge sat upright with her back turned toward her.
“Sorry,” Luo Jingyi said. “I haven’t really slept with people before, so I didn’t know I moved around so much.”
Chen Ge: “…”
Luo Jingyi: “…”
Luo Jingyi corrected herself. “I haven’t often shared a bed with anyone. I didn’t know my sleeping posture was so restless.”
Chen Ge stood and pulled on her bathrobe. “It’s fine. You only pressed me for a while. I could take it.”
Luo Jingyi: “…”
Chen Ge: “…”
Chen Ge added, “Your leg only pressed on me for a while. My leg could take it.”
Luo Jingyi nearly laughed.
What kind of conversation was this first thing in the morning?
Chen Ge asked, “Would you like to wash up first, Sister Luo?”
Luo Jingyi thought about it and agreed.
After Luo Jingyi entered the bathroom to brush her teeth and wash her face, Chen Ge went inside. She found the sink perfectly clean, with almost no sign that anyone had used it.
Sister Luo truly cared deeply about cleanliness and order.
While brushing her teeth with the hotel’s disposable toothbrush, Chen Ge suddenly remembered the phone call from the previous night…
Her heart sank. She shook her head, trying hard to forget it as quickly as possible.
When Chen Ge came out after washing up, Luo Jingyi was listening to voice messages on her phone. Her expression alternated between solemnity and amusement.
Seeing Chen Ge emerge, Luo Jingyi pointed toward the makeup bag on the dressing table.
The bag was closed, but beside it stood a neat row of travel-sized skincare products.
Chen Ge did not recognize the brand. Since Luo Jingyi told her to use them, she did.
After Chen Ge applied each layer, Luo Jingyi finished listening to the WeChat messages and said:
“The mystery has been solved.”
Chen Ge asked, “What mystery?”
“Your food poisoning.”
The more Luo Jingyi thought about it, the more ridiculous it seemed.
“My phone ran out of power last night, remember? I left it charging near the sofa and didn’t touch it again. When I checked it just now, Feng Yunxin had sent me over ten WeChat messages. She said the entire production has collapsed. Almost everyone is currently in the hospital.”
“Huh? Why?”
“They all have symptoms similar to yours—vomiting, diarrhea, and dizziness. Most of them are even worse than you.”
“They all have food poisoning?”
Luo Jingyi nodded. “I previously thought you had become sick because of the roasted squab I specially brought you. It seems I falsely accused the hotel. Apparently, someone else was responsible for harming both you and the entire production. Guess who?”
Chen Ge thought for a moment. “It couldn’t be… Song Ruyu, could it?”
“You’re clever. It was her.”
It was not surprising that Chen Ge guessed correctly. There had been signs.
Chen Ge had never been able to tolerate the boxed meals provided by the production. They were far too salty and spicy. One bite could leave her searching for water for the rest of the day.
Therefore, she could easily list everything she had eaten over the past several days.
The only food she had eaten from outside the production’s usual meals was the wild vegetables Song Ruyu brought back.
After filming ended yesterday morning, Song Ruyu and Qian Yu said they were going for a walk around Li Village.
When they returned, no one knew where they had obtained a bamboo basket containing half a basketful of wild vegetables.
Song Ruyu claimed the villagers had given them the vegetables. She said they were fragrant and tender, would taste wonderful stir-fried with eggs, and would also be good served cold.
“We can add another dish for everyone!”
Since Song Ruyu said the villagers had given them the vegetables, no one thought anything might be wrong with them.
The production’s boxed meals were genuinely awful and monotonous. No one objected to adding another dish.
The aunt responsible for cooking for the production washed the wild vegetables, serving half cold and stir-frying the rest with eggs.
Chen Ge happened to arrive when the aunt brought them out.
She smelled their fresh fragrance and did not know Song Ruyu had brought them back.
She had not been eating comfortably over the past several days, so she thought a few bites of a light cold vegetable dish might help soothe her stomach.
Chen Ge ate earlier than the rest of the production and consumed only a few bites, so her symptoms appeared first around noon.
Luo Jingyi had not eaten a single bite, which was why she remained unaffected.
Feng Yunxin, who had initially been confused by Chen Ge’s vomiting and diarrhea, began developing similar symptoms half an hour after lending Luo Jingyi the car.
It was not only her. The entire production began rushing frantically toward the bathrooms.
The farmhouse had only three floors, with one or two toilets on each. With so many people suffering acute diarrhea, there were nowhere near enough facilities.
Those who reached the bathrooms first remained inside for ages. The people waiting outside pounded on the doors until their palms turned red, pacing around while clutching their stomachs and barely able to stand.
Feng Yunxin was among those unfortunate people.
Later, Director Hu and several others were on the verge of exploding. With no other choice, they rushed to the small hill behind the courtyard and found a secluded place to relieve themselves, startling an entire flock of wild ducks into flight.
The moment they finished below, they felt the urge to vomit above.
The production failed to film anything throughout the entire afternoon. Everyone was too busy emptying themselves from both ends simultaneously.
Feng Yunxin resembled a rotten vegetable leaf left beneath the sun for a month, collapsed in a chair and groaning continuously.
Everyone in the production developed the same symptoms. Some were even worse, becoming so dizzy that they could no longer speak.
Even though Feng Yunxin felt as though her internal organs had been stirred into a pot of porridge, she realized that this was probably a case of mass food poisoning.
If they did not receive treatment quickly, something serious could happen.
Using the final traces of her awareness, Feng Yunxin called emergency services.
The ambulances arrived to save them, but they could not possibly carry so many people at once. They had to transport them in several groups.
The entire production being hospitalized became major news. By early that morning, every large platform was reporting it.
Feng Yunxin had undergone gastric lavage at the hospital and had only just awakened when she sent Luo Jingyi those WeChat messages.
After hearing Luo Jingyi’s explanation, Chen Ge forgot to blink.
“That… is terrifying.”
Luo Jingyi said, “What’s even more infuriating is that when the production questioned Song Ruyu afterward, she continued insisting for ages that the villagers had given her the wild vegetables. She insisted the food poisoning couldn’t possibly have been caused by them. In the end, Qian Yu finally confessed honestly. The two of them had wandered into the woods and seen an entire patch of glossy wild vegetables that looked edible, so they foolishly decided to pick them and bring them back as an additional dish. He sincerely admitted they had caused harm despite good intentions, and only then did everyone learn the truth.”
Chen Ge felt lingering fear. Fortunately, she had eaten only a few bites. Had she eaten more, she had no idea how severely ill she might have become.
“How is everyone now?”
“No one died, but they’re all half-dead. Some had their stomachs pumped, while others are receiving IV drips. Feng Yunxin said they probably can’t film today either. Everyone needs time to recover.”
Luo Jingyi planned to visit Feng Yunxin at the hospital.
Although her old friend had tricked her countless times, she was currently half-dead, so Luo Jingyi still needed to see her.
Even if Feng Yunxin genuinely died, Luo Jingyi could at least give her a grand burial.
At that point, Chen Ge suddenly realized something and quickly switched on the phone she had turned off after receiving the unpleasant harassment call the previous night.
She discovered thirty-nine missed calls from Sister Si.
Chen Ge: “…”
She immediately returned the call. Sister Si answered almost instantly.
“Sister Si.”
The moment Sister Si heard Chen Ge’s voice, her tears nearly burst out.
“Chen Ge! Are you still alive?!”
Sister Si shouted so loudly that even without speakerphone, Luo Jingyi heard every word clearly.
Chen Ge said, “I’m still alive…”
“How are you? Are you all right? I just landed! Where are you?!”
“Landed?”
“I’m at Wuyi Mountain Airport!”
“You already came here?”
“How could I not come after something this serious happened? It isn’t only me. I imagine every agency’s managers are rushing toward Wuyi Mountain! You still sound somewhat energetic, so you should be doing better, right? No one is answering Xiao Song’s phone. I’m worried she might be dead! You’re at the hospital now, aren’t you? How is Xiao Song?”
Chen Ge glanced at Luo Jingyi.
“I’m not at the hospital, and I’m not with Xiao Song.”
Sister Si said, “Come pick me up at the airport! I can’t contact a single person from the production!”
Sister Si genuinely sounded anxious. Chen Ge said, “All right, all right. I’m not far from the airport. I’ll go now. Wait for me for a little while.”
Chen Ge ended the call and told Luo Jingyi, “That was my manager.”
Chen Ge did not need to explain. Luo Jingyi had heard everything perfectly clearly.
Sister Si’s volume made Luo Jingyi wonder whether she had originally trained as a stage actress.
Luo Jingyi asked, “Can you drive? You can borrow Feng Yunxin’s car.”
“I can!”
Chen Ge had been unemployed for an entire year, so with nothing else to do, she had obtained her driver’s license.
Although she had the license, the unfortunate truth was that she had never possessed the budget to buy a car and had not even entered the license-plate lottery.
She could drive but had no car to drive. That perfectly described her.
Luo Jingyi gestured toward the coffee table with her chin.
“Then take the car and pick up your manager.”
In truth, Luo Jingyi wanted to accompany Chen Ge, since she could visit the hospital along the way.
But Chen Ge’s manager might recognize her, and managers from across the country were rushing here. Luo Jingyi did not want her identity exposed yet.
Therefore, she planned for them to separate. She would take a taxi to the hospital herself.
Chen Ge picked up the keys, then looked down at the bathrobe she was wearing and froze.
The clothes she had removed earlier were stained and soaked with sweat from the hot weather.
Even without being a clean freak, she could not easily put them back on.
Luo Jingyi considerately said, “I’ll find you some clothes.”
Chen Ge was immensely grateful. “Thank you, Sister Luo.”
Luo Jingyi took a shirt and trousers from her suitcase.
A white cotton T-shirt with ribbed trim around the collar, paired with sandy-yellow trousers.
“These are yours,” Luo Jingyi said.
Chen Ge did not think much about it. She changed into the clothes. They were comfortable and fit well. It was rare for her to find trousers that were not too short. These were even slightly long.
Luo Jingyi looked at her and laughed. “You put the shirt on backward. The inside is facing out.”
Chen Ge: “!”
She hurried back into the bathroom, pulled the shirt over her head, and tried to put it on again. Unexpectedly, the collar was narrow, and her head became firmly stuck.
Luo Jingyi saw her in the mirror, her face covered as she struggled frantically without success. Helpless, Luo Jingyi approached.
“Stop moving. I’ll take it off for you.”
Chen Ge immediately became still, like a tiny sparrow pinned beneath an eagle’s claw.
While helping remove the shirt, Luo Jingyi finally obtained a close look at the abdominal muscles that had caught her attention before.
The faint lines of her abdomen were genuinely beautiful. They were not always visible, appearing and disappearing with her movements.
Chen Ge’s body resembled a sculpture shaped by an artist: perfectly proportioned, with an even balance of bone and flesh, filled with youthful strength, firm yet graceful.
Luo Jingyi’s gaze lingered on Chen Ge’s sexually striking abdomen for a moment, then shifted toward her raised arms, still trapped inside the shirt.
When Luo Jingyi finally pulled the shirt off, Chen Ge’s face, buried beneath her disheveled hair, had turned slightly red.
During the process of removing the shirt, she had been wearing only her bra…
Didn’t that mean…
She had practically exposed herself completely to Sister Luo?
Afraid Chen Ge might become stuck again, Luo Jingyi prepared to help her put it back on.
Chen Ge hurriedly said, “I-I-I can do it myself.”
Luo Jingyi did not object and left the bathroom.
Chen Ge finally dressed properly. When she emerged, she said, “Then I’ll leave now.”
Luo Jingyi asked casually, “Are you sure you can manage? You’ve only just begun feeling better.”
“I’m fine. I’m very strong.”
As she spoke, Chen Ge bent her slender arm to display her muscle.
Admittedly, the lines of that slim arm were genuinely beautiful.
Just as beautiful as her abdominal muscles.
Luo Jingyi reminded her, “Don’t exhaust yourself. If you feel uncomfortable, stop and rest.”
Hearing Luo Jingyi’s words before she left, Chen Ge felt grateful.
Apart from her mother, no one had ever cared this much about what happened to her.
“Mm. I will.”
Chen Ge answered almost as though making a solemn promise.
The corner of Luo Jingyi’s mouth moved, forming the faintest answering smile.
Chen Ge left the room and walked quickly toward the elevator.
From behind a wall at the far end of the corridor, Su Qun secretly looked over and silently studied Chen Ge…
Chen Ge picked up Sister Si at the airport.
Sister Si had not even brought a suitcase. She carried only one bag, showing how hurriedly she had left.
Sister Si had never expected Chen Ge to arrive in a car, much less a large Mercedes-Benz…
She had barely reached the car and had not yet asked about the details of the food poisoning when she noticed something astonishing.
Chen Ge was wearing the fighter jet of luxury fashion: a shirt and trousers from Brand H, both new pieces from the current season, costing several thousand yuan despite consisting of only a few pieces of fabric.
Sister Si gripped the car door and froze. She did not even dare enter immediately, staring at Chen Ge as though she were some kind of monster.
Sister Si asked, “Did you rob a bank?”
Chen Ge: “???”
