After Attending School A, I Differentiated into an Omega - Chapter 24.1
After giving statements at the police station and exporting the photos and recordings to the police for filing, Qin Fengyue separately added the Omega they picked up from the alley on WeChat. She sent him the files, telling him that if anyone ever bullied him again, he should show them these, and guaranteed no one in the whole grade would dare touch him.
Hearing this, the little boy’s gaze toward Qin Fengyue filled with even more admiration.
Jiang Zhao observed the entire process coldly, or otherwise cooperated with the police.
When she was called away for private questioning, Qin Fengyue and the Omega remained in the lounge chatting.
“Th-thank you.”
Qin Fengyue put down her phone and propped up her chin. “It’s nothing. Just a random act of courage; don’t take it to heart.”
The Omega stole a few glances at Qin Fengyue, and when caught, he lowered his head and giggled.
Qin Fengyue felt smug, using the gap to chat with her two best friends on her phone.
The Charming Beauty of Wind and Moon: 【Accomplished another good deed today.】
Sheep-Sheep-Sheep: 【Playing the hero saving the beauty again?】
The Charming Beauty of Wind and Moon: 【You bet.】
Sheep-Sheep-Sheep: 【Show off!】
Qin Fengyue sent a Corgi butt emoji and posted a few more flirtatious lines before Wang Miao tagged her.
Wang Miao: 【My sister asked you to come to my house for dinner this weekend.】
Qin Fengyue let out a sigh, leaned back lazily in her chair, and typed back: 【Not going.】
Wang Miao got a bit anxious: 【If you don’t come, she’s going to dock my allowance again!】
With no other choice—one must help a childhood friend in need—Qin Fengyue stalled and haggled for a bunch of benefits before agreeing.
Finally, remembering she had differentiated into an Omega and that Wang Xiao’s level of perversion was even worse than Jiang Zhao’s, she hedged again: 【Not this week. Tell her to wait until after my monthly exams; don’t let her interfere with my studies.】
Wang Miao: 【Fine, as long as you agree.】
Chu Yang watched the two chat in silence. Once the group went quiet, he sent a private message: 【Are you really going?】
Qin Fengyue: 【Yeah, who’s afraid of whom?】
Chu Yang: 【I’ll go with you.】
Fair enough.
Qin Fengyue put down her phone and looked up to see the little Omega across from her still stealing glances.
Realizing this belatedly, she scratched her head and asked, “Hungry?”
It was almost noon. Qin Fengyue had never ordered takeout at a police station and didn’t know how much longer they’d be, so she was a bit undecided.
As if seeing through her embarrassment, the boy’s eyes dimmed instantly. He murmured, “It’s okay, I’ll eat when I get back.”
Qin Fengyue hummed and nodded. Seeing the Omega in low spirits, she felt pity for him.
“Getting bored? Want me to show you a magic trick?”
Qin Fengyue spoke up suddenly, placing her right hand on the table. Her two fingers paced across the table like human feet—sometimes leisurely, sometimes at a brisk pace—building suspense and drawing all his attention to her hand.
Her lustrous knuckles had a pinkish glow, like polished white jade.
The Omega’s face turned red looking at her hand, and then he saw the lazy Qin Fengyue control her two fingers to stop slowly right under his nose.
“Watch closely,” the girl said softly. With a flip of her wrist, a paper flower appeared in her slender white palm.
“Wow!”
A smile danced in Qin Fengyue’s eyes. “Is it magical?”
“Mm-hmm!”
Kids are so easy to coax. He looked only fifteen; having this happen right after differentiating must have been hard on him.
After the police finished questioning Jiang Zhao—knowing she was familiar with the area and worked there often—they gave her some advice: “You should still focus on your studies.”
Jiang Zhao nodded. After cooperating, she became a person of few words again.
The officer checked his watch and led Jiang Zhao toward the lounge. “The female officers are out on a mission, and I’m an Alpha… I need someone to do some psychological counseling for that kid…”
Jiang Zhao gave a low huff, looking past the officer’s shoulder to see the lounge filled with a “pink bubble” atmosphere.
Qin Fengyue flipped her wrist and brushed the paper flower against the Omega’s face. “Your face is all messy from crying; use this to wipe it.”
The little Omega clutched the pink flower, looking reluctant. “It’ll break if I use it.”
Qin Fengyue gave a mischievous grin. “Afraid of breaking it? Hmm, then should I fold another one for you?”
Her tone rose, her voice dropping low.
The Alpha officer, a single straight man, felt something was very wrong. His hand itched as he fiddled with his handcuffs. He asked Jiang Zhao, “Is your classmate a human trafficker?”
Jiang Zhao’s eyes curved into crescents. As angry as she was inside, she looked just as happy. “Yes, go ahead and arrest her.”
Officer: “…”
Qin Fengyue caught sight of the two pairs of feet at the door, retracted her expression, and said, “Alright, wipe your face. Let’s consider this chapter closed. Don’t think about the bad stuff when you go back.”
The officer walked over, looked at the boy with the blushing face, then at the equally youthful Qin Fengyue, and teased: “It looks like I don’t need to find that female officer after all. You two can go back. Skipping class on a Wednesday—you’re going to get lectured when you return.”
Qin Fengyue rubbed her nose. The three of them left together, planning to part ways at the station entrance. Halfway, Qin Fengyue went to the restroom. When she returned, she saw Jiang Zhao and the Omega standing very far apart.
The rain had stopped long ago. The ground was damp, and the sun had reappeared, scorching hot.
Is Jiang Zhao’s rejection syndrome acting up? Qin Fengyue guessed.
Qin Fengyue hailed a taxi for the little Omega. While waiting for the car, her sleeve was tugged.
Qin Fengyue: “What is it?”
The Omega glanced at Jiang Zhao and pointed silently to a corner.
Qin Fengyue followed him, glancing back at Jiang Zhao. Her eyes were expressive: Did you scare the kid?
Jiang Zhao looked back with a shallow smile.
Qin Fengyue: “…”
Standing in the shade under a tree, Qin Fengyue checked her phone. The driver seemed to be taking a long way around and was asking for her specific location.
Upon hearing she was at the police station, he seemed a bit reluctant to come.
The Omega looked up at her, his lips trembling, his teeth chattering. Feeling it was rude to use her phone in front of him, Qin Fengyue put it away and met his gaze seriously.
One look told her something was wrong, and before she could speak, the Omega blurted out after a long struggle: “S-Sister, I like you.”
“…”
On the other side, Jiang Zhao stood by the roadside with her hands in her pockets. A drunk who had been picked up the day before woke up and was being kicked out. Walking out, he saw a slender, graceful figure.
“Hi, beauty,” the drunk called out casually.
Jiang Zhao gave a smile.
“…”
Perhaps the sun was too bright and blinded his eyes; the drunk adjusted his shirt and saw Jiang Zhao smile at him again.
The confession was sudden, but not entirely unexpected. Qin Fengyue gave a hum and started with an apology.
The little boy’s eyes reddened; it looked like he was about to break down. Qin Fengyue leaned down and said, “It’s not that you’re not good.”
At those words, the kid’s face turned even redder.
Qin Fengyue sighed inwardly. “I saved you because I was saved by someone when I was little, too.”
“Then… do you like her?”
Qin Fengyue looked at the sky. “Not really. Mostly, I just feel a bit of regret that I never got to give her the one piece of candy I had left.”
As she spoke, her gaze paused, drawn to two people under the sun.
An unkempt “female ghost” was pestering Jiang Zhao with an ambiguous smile, appearing as if she wanted to grab Jiang Zhao’s hand.
Jiang Zhao retreated a few steps, her footsteps messy. She dodged, her white teeth biting her lip, her head tilted to reveal a pale, helpless face.
Qin Fengyue’s mouth fell open. This was the first time she had seen Jiang Zhao’s “illness” act up so severely.
She ran over in a few steps to save the “beauty.”
“What are you doing? Being a hooligan right in front of the police station?”
The female hooligan was stunned, her gaze moving down to see Qin Fengyue holding Jiang Zhao’s hand. “Who are you?”
“Her friend!” Qin Fengyue was certain this drunk was no good. Who could be a good person coming out of a police station at noon!
“Look again and I’ll send you back inside for a second round!”
Female Drunk: “…”
Jiang Zhao pulled her hand away, holding it in her own palm and rubbing it. She tilted her head, and it was hard to tell if she was crying or laughing.
Once they were in the car, Qin Fengyue settled Jiang Zhao in the front passenger seat while she sat in the back with the kid. She was worried about Jiang Zhao’s illness and felt her arrangement was very appropriate. When she asked Jiang Zhao if she was okay, the other’s complexion still didn’t improve.
Qin Fengyue “tsked” and directed her fire at the driver. “Master, if you had come earlier, none of this would have happened.”
The driver rolled his eyes through the rearview mirror.
Qin Fengyue: “Go to the Central School first, then drop us off at the nearest restaurant on Hongyang Road.”
Hongyang Road was near Alpha High. The little Omega’s eyes lit up. “Sister, do you go to school there?”
Qin Fengyue gave a hum. “Don’t be afraid. If someone bullies you, you can come find me. I’m in Senior Class 2.”
“What I said today…”
“You’re just a tiny kid. If I were like you at your age, my dad would beat me to death.”
“Is your dad very fierce?”
“Fierce. A while ago, the dog at home didn’t listen—”
The topic drifted, and they chatted away happily, which fortunately extinguished the kid’s misplaced crush.
After dropping the kid at his school gate, Qin Fengyue even got out to buy him a popsicle.
When she returned, she handed one to Jiang Zhao. “Eat this to cool down your temper.”
Jiang Zhao’s closed eyes slowly opened. Qin Fengyue asked, “Where are we eating lunch?”
Jiang Zhao didn’t answer, tapping away on her phone.
Qin Fengyue’s phone vibrated. She looked down to see that Jiang Zhao had transferred her a sum of money, down to the last cent.
“What’s this?”
Jiang Zhao closed her eyes again. As the car turned a corner, the sun shone through the window onto her features. “The money you asked me to change for you before.”
Aside from the cash Qin Fengyue had borrowed, it was only a hundred or so yuan. Qin Fengyue hadn’t kept it in mind and had long forgotten. “I totally forgot.”
The second time they met, she had said she wanted to deposit the money with Jiang Zhao, with the intention of deepening their connection.
Jiang Zhao had seen through it then but didn’t say anything, waiting for her to make a fool of herself. Later, when Qin Fengyue actually did make a fool of herself, she didn’t want to be held back by this bit of money and let Qin Fengyue do as she pleased. Both had forgotten the matter, but it had unexpectedly become the catalyst for Jiang Zhao’s outburst today.
Jiang Zhao said flatly, “Aren’t you leaving? I’m returning the money. No need to keep it stored.”
Qin Fengyue gave a hum, remembering the situation. She opened her phone and sent a message to her family group chat. She decided to mention it subtly first so as not to scare them.
Baby Qin: 【Dad, Mom, I might need to withdraw from Alpha High.】
Mom Fang replied with a string of ellipses. Dad Qin didn’t say a word for a long time; he probably expected this from her.
Qin Fengyue put down her phone and peered at Jiang Zhao’s pale side profile. “Hey, did that drunk earlier touch you?”
Jiang Zhao: “No.”
Qin Fengyue sensed the atmosphere was a bit stiff and decided to stop talking.
When she stopped, Jiang Zhao spoke up again. “Did that kid just confess to you?”
Qin Fengyue hummed. “Too young. He was probably just shaken up. I didn’t agree.”
Jiang Zhao curled her lips. “If he were old enough, you would have agreed?”
Qin Fengyue looked up. From this angle, she could only see the pale side of Jiang Zhao’s neck and the back of her head. “No.”
Jiang Zhao seemed to glance at her through the rearview mirror. “Even if you agreed, you couldn’t do anything.”
Those words pinched Qin Fengyue’s sensitive spot. She narrowed her eyes. “What do you mean by that?”
Jiang Zhao said lazily, “Isn’t it true? You just differentiated. You have the heart but not the strength for anything you want to do.”
