After Becoming a Scumbag Alpha, the Green Tea Omega is Reborn - Chapter 23.1
Yu Li recalled that Dr. Liang had told her that a pheromone disorder could be life-threatening for Tao Ran. Because of this, Yu Li always kept a backup suppressant for Tao Ran in her bag. However, she hadn’t brought her bag into the utility closet and couldn’t leave immediately.
Tao Ran’s pheromone disorder would flare up periodically. The only way to treat it, other than suppressants, was… to mark her.
“Yu Li, I want…” Tao Ran’s eyes seemed to be veiled by a layer of mist, gazing at Yu Li without focus. Her biological instincts manipulated her to slowly hook her fingers into Yu Li’s collar, dragging Yu Li toward her face.
The thick scent of white musk filled Yu Li’s nose, more intense than usual, causing a desire in her heart to burst forth.
“I want you to kiss me.”
Before Tao Ran could finish her sentence, Yu Li had already leaned down to kiss her, circling her slender waist and meticulously tasting her slightly parted lips.
Desire scorched her lungs bit by bit. Yu Li struggled to resist the urge to pin her against the door; she wanted to push her away, but Tao Ran only clung tighter. Tao Ran’s hands wound around Yu Li’s neck like vines, as if trying to drag her down into an abyss together.
“Ranran, don’t… mmm…” Even Yu Li’s protests were swallowed and enveloped by her.
Yu Li used a bit of strength, pressing against Tao Ran’s shoulders to push her back.
She peeked outside through a crack in the door and whispered, “Ranran, don’t be like this.”
Tao Ran’s eyes overflowed with aggrieved tears. “Can’t I even have one kiss?”
Yu Li was torn. Holding Tao Ran, she coaxed in a low voice, “Baby, bear with it a little longer. We’ll go back to the car for the suppressant immediately.”
Tao Ran buried her head in Yu Li’s chest, nuzzling like a kitten acting spoiled. “But I feel so bad…”
Their compatibility was as high as 99%, and Yu Li’s cedar-scented pheromones also deeply attracted Tao Ran. Taking advantage of Yu Li turning her head, Tao Ran couldn’t resist planting a kiss on her gland.
Yu Li instantly grabbed her hand, watching her wide, innocent eyes. Her heart rate accelerated and her breathing became erratic.
I can’t endure this anymore. I’m just going to rush out!
Thinking this, Yu Li hugged Tao Ran and was about to open the door. However, in the next second, through the door crack, she saw a uniformed man walk over. He happened to stop with his back to the utility closet door and pulled out a cigarette and a lighter.
Good heavens, is he really going to smoke right in front of us at a time like this?
As if that weren’t enough, another uniformed man walked over and asked for a cigarette. The two began to chat.
“I think I saw a… female star just now.”
“For real?”
“Not sure. Looked familiar, wearing sunglasses. She vanished in the blink of an eye.”
Yu Li was so scared she didn’t dare breathe loudly. Yet, the “treasure” in her arms wouldn’t stay still, tugging at her collar and pouting tearfully.
“Yu Li…” Tao Ran whispered softly in her ear in a daze. “Why are you always ignoring me?”
Yu Li gave a bitter laugh and released her. “Don’t be like this. I’m an Alpha.”
The scent of her favorite pheromones flooded her nose; any Alpha would have surrendered.
Tao Ran’s gaze remained blurred. She let out a coy huff and said, “So you actually know you’re an Alpha.”
Tao Ran took Yu Li’s hand and moved it toward her own face. But in the next second, Lin Shen’s shouting echoed on the second floor of the bar.
“Hey! This jerk is trying to hit me! Are you guys going to do anything?!”
The two staff members smoking in front of the closet immediately sprinted toward the noise. Seeing the opportunity, Yu Li light-speed put masks and hats on herself and Tao Ran, pushed the door open, picked Tao Ran up, and sprinted downstairs.
Fortunately, the inspectors had all run to the private room where Lin Shen and Aubrey were, so no one noticed them. Carrying Tao Ran, she dashed out of the bar. Lin Lin immediately opened the car door for them, hopping anxiously on the side.
Yu Li put Tao Ran in the car and said to Lin Lin without looking up, “Get me the suppressant from the bag on the passenger seat.”
Lin Lin frantically rummaged through the bag, found the oral suppressant, and fed it to Tao Ran. As Tao Ran leaned in Yu Li’s arms, her breathing gradually stabilized. Yu Li, drenched in sweat from anxiety, finally let out a sigh of relief.
“Is Sister Ranran…?”
“Pheromone disorder.”
In layman’s terms, it was an irregular heat cycle that caught them off guard.
Lin Lin looked at Tao Ran worriedly. With Tao Ran’s pheromones in such a state, she wondered if Yu Li had taken advantage of her…
Yu Li suddenly slapped her forehead. “Oh right! Lin Shen is still inside.”
Just as she laid Tao Ran down and was about to pull the car door open, Tao Ran found a burst of energy to grab her sleeve, looking at her pitifully.
“Don’t go, Yu Li.”
An Omega is very fragile after a flare-up and needs an Alpha to hold them tenderly for a short while. But Yu Li was worried about Lin Shen’s situation and whether she would end up with a criminal record for helping her.
Fortunately, after only a few seconds, Lin Shen came out. Aside from a bit of disheveled hair, she walked with ease, looking as if nothing had happened.
She sat in the passenger seat, massaged her arm, and turned to ask Yu Li: “I handled it. What about you? Did you get hurt anywhere?”
“It was nothing. That woman might be an Alpha, but she plays too much; her physical functions have declined significantly. You should pay attention too—don’t wait until you’re old to regret it.” Lin Shen was about to light a cigarette when Lin Lin shot her a glare, so she desisted.
Yu Li let out a snort. “You should talk! Pay attention to your own health, so you don’t become ‘inadequate’ before you even find an Omega.”
Lin Lin asked, “By the way, what happened to Aubrey and Shi Yi in the end?”
“Shi Yi ran off long ago out of fear. As for Aubrey, the moment the inspectors arrived, she started wailing like a baby. If it weren’t for the surveillance footage, people would have thought I was the bully.” Lin Shen remembered something and added, “Don’t worry, Tao Ran was sitting in a blind spot of the cameras; she couldn’t be filmed. Even if she was, she was wearing a mask and wouldn’t be recognized.”
Yu Li’s heart finally settled, and she instinctively pulled Tao Ran a bit tighter.
As the van approached Yu Li’s villa, she gripped Tao Ran’s hand, looked at the two in the front seats, and said solemnly, “Lin Lin, Lin Shen, thank you.”
Lin Lin gave a touching smile. “It’s what I should do.”
Lin Shen brushed her blonde hair behind her ear, biting an unlit cigarette, and grinned casually. “Let’s not make this a habit.”
Yu Li’s heart was full of emotion. When she first arrived in this world, it felt like all the friends around her were ill-intentioned—either calling her out to carouse or questioning why she had changed. Not a single friend approved of or understood her choices. Only Lin Shen, despite acting as if she didn’t care about anything, gave Yu Li complete respect and protection.
After returning home, Yu Li told Lin Lin to drive Lin Shen home and carried Tao Ran into her room. For some reason, while Tao Ran’s breathing had calmed, her body was still hot, especially the gland area on the back of her neck.
Is the medicine not working? Yu Li was getting anxious. Just as she was about to call Dr. Liang, the phone in Tao Ran’s pocket vibrated incessantly.
Yu Li picked it up and saw that Liu Xia had called Tao Ran more than a dozen times. To prevent Liu Xia from worrying, Yu Li answered.
Before Yu Li could speak, Liu Xia’s voice came rapid-fire like a machine gun.
“Ranran, are you okay? I already called the inspectors! How are you?”
Yu Li froze for a moment and said, “So it was you.”
She had wondered why the inspection was so perfectly timed; it turned out Liu Xia had intentionally caused it.
“Yu Li? Why are you answering? Where’s Tao Ran?” Liu Xia panicked and shouted, “I’m warning you! If you dare touch Tao Ran again, I won’t let you off!”
“Tao Ran is fine. She left the bar and is home. I won’t hurt her, don’t misunderstand…”
“Misunderstand you? You think I don’t know? You beat her up on your wedding night; her wounds haven’t even healed yet!” Liu Xia was a mix of fury and hatred. “Put Tao Ran on the phone right now!”
Explaining the pheromone disorder was too complicated, and Liu Xia spoke too fast and was too agitated. Yu Li simply hung up and tossed the phone aside. The priority now was getting Dr. Liang here.
Yu Li called Dr. Liang and briefly explained the situation. The doctor promised to come over immediately.
Tao Ran’s body temperature was high. Following Dr. Liang’s instructions, Yu Li used a towel soaked in cold water to wipe her neck and face. However, the moment Yu Li’s hand touched Tao Ran’s face, she was suddenly pushed away.
“Don’t… please don’t touch me…”
“It’s me. I’m Yu Li.”
Yu Li gently held her hand, but it was violently flung away.
“I hate you! Yu Li, I hate you! Why did you treat me like this… why…” Tao Ran began to sob quietly.
Is she remembering the wedding night? Yu Li looked at her with pity and sighed. It wasn’t her who did it, but she had to carry the blame; both she and Tao Ran were victims.
Yu Li placed the towel on Tao Ran’s forehead and turned to leave, but Tao Ran suddenly grabbed her hand and whispered, “Don’t go…”
“You aren’t Yu Li. Don’t go.”
“What?” Yu Li bent down in surprise, leaning close to Tao Ran.
Tao Ran embraced Yu Li, her lips like blooming flowers pressed against Yu Li’s ear as she repeatedly murmured, “You aren’t her… you aren’t her…”
Yu Li pressed Tao Ran’s hand down and straightened her body stiffly.
Does Tao Ran know something?
Before she could think further, Dr. Liang messaged saying she was at the door. Yu Li hurried out to meet her. Dr. Liang conducted an exam and prepared to use a wet towel to wipe Tao Ran’s back and abdomen to lower her temperature.
Seeing the smooth, delicate skin revealed on Tao Ran’s stomach, Yu Li’s eyes heated up. Just as she was about to look away, Dr. Liang suddenly blurted out, “You actually haven’t marked her yet.”
Dr. Liang looked up at her, a gaze that seemed to pierce through to her heart. Yu Li said nothing. Dr. Liang didn’t ask further, though she remained puzzled.
The massive amount of pheromones released during an Omega’s disorder is no different from an aphrodisiac; no Alpha should be able to resist. Furthermore, as a married couple, Yu Li could prevent the disorder simply by marking her. Why wouldn’t the notoriously philandering Yu Li do it?
Tao Ran’s hands moved in her unconscious state, suddenly grabbing Dr. Liang’s coat and calling softly, “Yu Li…”
Both the doctor and Yu Li froze for a moment.
“Is Tao Ran okay?” Yu Li asked.
“No major issue. The persistent heat is just a side effect of the disorder. Remember to take the medicine on time in the future.”
“Okay. Thank you, Doctor.”
“It’s no trouble.” Dr. Liang put her mask back on, looked at Tao Ran, and smiled. “I see you two have a good relationship. Treat her well in the future and don’t let her get hurt again.”
“I understand. Thank you.” Yu Li saw the doctor out, her mind a mess.
It wasn’t that she hadn’t thought about marking Tao Ran. Their compatibility was extremely high, and Tao Ran was naturally attractive to her, especially during heat…
But she couldn’t get over the hurdle in her heart. Although they were married, there was no emotional foundation. Contrary to the “Scumbag Alpha,” Yu Li was conservative and somewhat traditional at her core; she believed that emotions and physical actions should be in harmony.
Toward Tao Ran, she felt both pity and compassion, and she liked her, but it was only liking. Tao Ran, on the other hand, seemed to be currying favor. Every day since the marriage, Yu Li could feel that she had never truly been close to Tao Ran’s heart.
But if there was no genuine feeling, how to explain Tao Ran calling her name just now?
Yu Li looked at Tao Ran’s tranquil sleeping face with mixed emotions.
Half an hour later, Tao Ran woke up and saw Yu Li sitting nearby, resting with half-closed eyes.
Tao Ran sat up and carefully moved next to Yu Li, embracing her.
“Hmm?” Yu Li woke up in a daze and hugged her back. “How are you? Are you okay?”
“I’m fine.” Tao Ran shook her head, pressing against Yu Li’s back and hugging her tight. “Yu Li, thank you. And… I’m sorry for causing you trouble.”
“As long as you’re okay. But why did you go to the bar to find Aubrey?”
“There was something I wanted to confirm. Now, I don’t need to.” Tao Ran released her and crawled into her embrace, looking directly at her with bright eyes. “I don’t need to know the answer anymore.”
“But I do.” Yu Li was rarely angry, but her brows were slightly knit, adding color to her statue-like features. “No matter what happens, don’t go to those places anymore. If you must go, you have to tell me, and I will go with you.”
Yu Li was still feeling the aftershocks of fear. If she had arrived late, what would a lonely Tao Ran have done?
Tao Ran pouted and didn’t explain. Instead, she asked, “Then will you take me with you the next time you go to a place like that?”
“I won’t be going.”
“But I know you went to a bar the night of the ribbon-cutting ceremony.” Tao Ran instinctively gripped the hem of Yu Li’s shirt and let out a huff. “And you didn’t tell me.”
Yu Li’s eyes widened. It really was “birds of a feather.” This was going to be complicated to explain.
“I went that time to have a final showdown with Aubrey, nothing else. But how did you know?” She had made sure the smell of alcohol was gone before coming home.
“You didn’t even dare look at me. I guessed you were hiding something.” Tao Ran smiled and gave Yu Li’s waist a gentle squeeze. “You aren’t allowed to lie to me anymore.”
“And what about you?” Yu Li grabbed her mischievous hands. “Will you dare do it again?”
“I won’t. I’ll listen to you from now on.”
Yu Li wanted to continue the lecture, but Tao Ran feigned a few coughs, and Yu Li immediately panicked, coaxing her to lie down.
As Dr. Liang said, the heat was just a side effect of the disorder. Her health recovered quickly, and she was back on the set with Yu Li the very next day.
Flower Branch was a simple literary film with a small budget and a short shooting schedule. It was nearing wrap-up after about a month. Director Wang planned to finish today. The workload for the two leads was heavy, but they were the actors who complained the least and worked the hardest.
The morning scene involved Tao Ran and two supporting actresses. The plot: while the lead is working in a factory, the two colleagues find out she is dating the female boss. Out of envy and jealousy, they mock her old leather shoes.
When Tao Ran walked onto the set today and saw the two actresses, she raised an eyebrow playfully. The two caught her gaze and looked away awkwardly.
Talk about a “narrow road for enemies.” These were the same two actresses who had competed for the lead role and mocked her shoes in the restroom. Now, Tao Ran was the lead, they were the supporting roles, and the final scene they were filming together still revolved around shoes.
