After Becoming the Love-Brained Female Lead’s Best Friend - Chapter 18
In the classroom, the homeroom teacher looked at Fang Shu’s homework with utter disappointment. She also called Ye Wanyin up and said with bitter disappointment, “Why are you messing around too? I moved you next to Fang Shu’s seat, but not so you could let her copy your homework!”
Ye Wanyin explained, “She did it herself.”
The homeroom teacher almost laughed from anger. The grip she had on the homework was so strong it seemed as if she might crumple the test paper into scraps. Listen to that. How much hot air did it take to blow such a huge boast?
The homeroom teacher waved her hand at Ye Wanyin. “Enough. You don’t need to speak for her. You should also reflect on yourself properly. Go stand by your seat.”
Ye Wanyin did not move.
The homeroom teacher raised an eyebrow and asked, “Is there something else?”
Ye Wanyin patiently explained, “She really did it herself. But because we live together, I explained the questions to her.”
Since the questions had already been explained, of course Fang Shu could not fill in wrong answers anymore.
The homeroom teacher understood. For a moment, she was also somewhat speechless. In the end, she said, both amused and exasperated, “You’ve done the teacher’s job for me. Then what is the teacher supposed to do?”
Ye Wanyin lowered her head and stayed silent.
“All right, all right. Teacher isn’t blaming you. After all, you’re doing this for Fang Shu’s good too. It’s a good thing that you’re willing to help her study, but next time, remember to tell the teacher in advance.”
Then she said to Ye Wanyin, “Go call Fang Shu back in.”
The people outside the classroom all showed expressions of “as expected” when they saw Ye Wanyin. Li Ming even carried his test paper and walked up to Ye Wanyin, saying half-truthfully and half-resentfully, “If I’d known you’d already let Fang Shu copy, you might as well have brought along one for me too. Then I wouldn’t have to do questions out here.”
Ye Wanyin looked at him a little apologetically, then walked around him. “I’m here to get Fang Shu.”
Seeing Ye Wanyin bring Fang Shu inside, the others did not understand what was happening and gathered by the window, holding their test papers and pens as they watched the show.
They saw Ye Wanyin bring Fang Shu to the podium, then return to her own seat and sit down.
She sat down!
The people outside the classroom thought their eyes were playing tricks on them. Old Ban’s menopause had been undecided for years, so how could she let someone off so easily?!
When they saw Fang Shu also preparing to walk back to her seat, the people outside the classroom could not stay calm anymore. This should not be happening.
But in the next second, Fang Shu was stopped by the homeroom teacher.
“I heard from Ye Wanyin that she already taught you these questions. In that case, you should know how to do them now, right? Come up and do these two questions.”
The homeroom teacher handed Fang Shu a brand-new paper, then looked toward the group of students outside the classroom who were craning their necks and poking their heads in.
“You’ve all finished your homework, right? Anyone who has finished can bring it in now for me to check.”
As soon as she finished speaking, the people outside the classroom scattered in a swarm.
Inside the classroom, Fang Shu held the paper and did the questions at the podium. She thought for a relatively long time on the first question, but fortunately, these were all questions Ye Wanyin had taught her the night before, so she still had some impression of them. In the end, she managed to stumble her way through it.
By the second question, things went much more smoothly. It did not take long for her to solve it.
The homeroom teacher had been standing beside her with the answer key from the moment Fang Shu started, checking both her work and her steps. From time to time, she even nodded in satisfaction.
When Fang Shu finished, the homeroom teacher could not help nodding approvingly. “See? Before, you simply weren’t putting in any effort. Now that you’ve started learning, isn’t it quite simple?”
Fang Shu did not speak.
She was afraid that if she opened her mouth, she would easily anger Old Ban.
The homeroom teacher patted her shoulder and encouraged her. “Study properly. If there’s anything you don’t know how to do in the future, you can ask me or Ye Wanyin. Your grades will definitely improve.”
When Fang Shu returned to her seat, Ye Wanyin was working on questions. Seeing Fang Shu come back, she handed her a notebook. Fang Shu glanced at the questions on it. They were question types derived from the knowledge points they had studied yesterday afternoon.
Fang Shu worked for a while. At first, it went quite smoothly, but the later questions exceeded the range her intelligence could bear.
Over the course of two classes, Fang Shu completed two-thirds of them. One of the questions was only missing the final bit.
After the break-time exercises ended, Fang Shu planned to use the remaining bit of break time to finish that last part.
“Fang Shu, you’re way too disloyal. You actually secretly did homework at home by yourself!” Li Ming and Zhang Xiao had long legs and had followed closely behind them into the classroom. The moment Li Ming entered, he leaned against the ridiculously thick stack of textbooks in front of his desk and started chattering.
Fang Shu did not turn her head. “I reminded you during the holiday.”
Li Ming blurted out, “When did you—”
In the next second, something suddenly flashed through his mind, and his eyes widened. “Damn!”
Fang Shu was talking about the time he had been idling in the group chat.
But that also reminded him. He leaned over the pile of books on his desk and quietly harassed Fang Shu. “Hey, Fang Shu, you still haven’t said. Who’s your new boyfriend?”
Fang Shu looked at the final little part of the question in front of her, where she still had no ideas at all, and was just about to turn around and express her displeasure.
Ye Wanyin suddenly turned around first. She pointed at Fang Shu, then said very gently in a low voice to Li Ming, who was behind and slightly to the side, “She’s doing questions.”
“Oh, oh, oh.” Perhaps underachievers had some inexplicable natural reverence toward top students. Hearing Ye Wanyin’s words, Li Ming sat down without another word. He even said to Zhang Xiao beside him, “Zhang Xiao, I reasonably suspect Fang Shu is dating a top student this time.”
Otherwise, there was no way to explain her bizarre studying behavior.
Zhang Xiao nodded perfunctorily. “You have a point.”
Li Ming continued analyzing, “Who do you think Fang Shu is dating? Someone from the top class? But I remember Fang Shu rejected quite a few of them before, right?”
“Could it be someone from another school?” Li Ming was still analyzing when he suddenly noticed that Zhang Xiao had been touching his phone and chatting with someone. He could not help asking strangely, “What are you doing?”
“I’m chatting with my girlfriend,” Zhang Xiao said sweetly.
Li Ming suddenly felt a sense of betrayal. “Didn’t we make a bet to see who could pursue Fang Shu first? How could you betray the organization?!”
Zhang Xiao said unconcernedly, “Have you ever considered the possibility that even if I break up with my girlfriend one day, you still won’t have managed to pursue Fang Shu?”
Li Ming secretly glanced at Fang Shu in front of them, then lowered his voice and said, “Can you face Fang Shu after doing this?!”
Zhang Xiao also lowered his voice. “Fang Shu belongs to everyone, but a girlfriend belongs to oneself.”
Li Ming widened his eyes at him, then lowered his voice even further. “So do you have anyone you can introduce to me?”
…
The third class was English. The bell rang, but Fang Shu still had not figured out the final bit she was stuck on. Ye Wanyin had originally wanted to ask Fang Shu if she wanted to hand in the homework now, but when she turned her head, she saw Fang Shu’s tangled expression switching back and forth between “I feel like I’m about to figure it out” and “Forget it, give up.”
Ye Wanyin did not disturb her.
She looked at the English teacher on the podium, whose hypnotic effect was a hundred times better than her teaching effect, and felt that it did not matter whether Fang Shu listened to this class or not.
After English class ended, Fang Shu still had not figured out the part she was stuck on. However, she had already given up.
She had thought it through. That point might be the gap between her intelligence and a top student’s intelligence.
Unfortunately, she was slapped in the face the very next second.
Ye Wanyin first showed her the question she had been unable to solve, then told her exactly where she had gotten stuck.
On the notebook, beside the auxiliary line Fang Shu had drawn, Ye Wanyin drew another auxiliary line. This time, without Ye Wanyin even needing to say anything, Fang Shu suddenly understood.
Fang Shu frowned. “Why does one question need two auxiliary lines?”
She had wasted so long trying to think of the answer from afar.
Ye Wanyin gave her a warning in advance. “Actually, it’s not limited to two. There may be three or even more.”
Fang Shu cracked. “That’s way too hard.”
Ye Wanyin said, “Actually, if you practice more, you’ll get it.”
Then she showed Fang Shu the previous few questions and explained each of them. After that, she handed the unfinished questions back to her.
The fourth class was physics. This time, Ye Wanyin did not let her do math questions during physics class.
After the class ended, the two went to the cafeteria to eat. Only after returning did they prepare to continue working on questions.
The two of them took out their notebooks and question banks together. One picked up a pen, and the other picked up a phone—
Ye Wanyin: “?”
She looked at Fang Shu beside her, who had picked up her phone, and asked, “You’re not doing them anymore?”
Fang Shu opened the comic she had not finished reading last night. “I need to continuously take in romance value so I can endure the hardship of studying.”
After saying this, she looked at Ye Wanyin as if remembering something. “Take out your phone.”
Ye Wanyin took out her phone without understanding why. Fang Shu swiped the screen, originally intending to have Ye Wanyin unlock it, but unexpectedly, the phone was not locked at all. So Fang Shu took the phone and started messing with it furiously. When Ye Wanyin got her phone back, she discovered several new apps had been downloaded on her home screen. Aside from the novel account, which could not be shared, Fang Shu had logged Ye Wanyin into her own comic and anime-tracking accounts.
She had even specially singled out the content she wanted Ye Wanyin to focus on.
“Remember to find time to watch it yourself tonight. Don’t wait for me to urge you.”
There were usually no teachers watching over them at noon, so Fang Shu happily spent the entire lunch break looking at her phone.
During the first class in the afternoon, Fang Shu could barely keep her eyes open.
But perhaps even heaven could not bear to watch her doze off, because the biology class that was originally scheduled for first period was switched with Chinese.
Fang Shu stood up.
She woke up.
The Chinese teacher even adjusted her reading glasses and said, “I heard from your homeroom teacher that you finished all your holiday homework and improved quite a bit. In that case, you should have memorized Epang Palace Ode too, right? Recite it for me.”
Fang Shu’s eyes drooped miserably. This time, she could not squeeze out even a single line.
The Chinese teacher looked at her strangely, then understood. “Oh. So my Chinese class isn’t worthy of you.”
Fang Shu: “…”
Then she stood for two classes.
The last tiny bit of sleepiness she had left finally completely disappeared under the influence of those two classes.
When she sat down, Ye Wanyin said to her, “Tonight, I’ll help you memorize Epang Palace Ode?”
But Fang Shu’s rebellious streak happened to flare up. “I won’t.”
Ye Wanyin: “…”
