After Being Transmigrated into a Cannon Fodder Scum Alpha - Chapter 13
On the other side of the wall, Yun Qi gripped Lin Xi’s hand tightly. She tried calling out to Lin Chen on the opposite side, but received no response.
[Watch your character persona.] The system suddenly reminded her. Thanks to the system’s voice, Yun Qi regained her composure.
As the protagonist of this world, Lin Chen wouldn’t meet her end in a place like this. Forcibly separating companions was likely one of the planned segments of the haunted house design.
It’s just hard on Xi’er.
Yun Qi looked at her daughter helplessly. Bound by her setting, she couldn’t pick up the child and comfort her properly. With her “Mama” not by her side, Lin Xi was visibly quieter than before.
Lin Xi looked at Yun Qi timidly. The cramped space triggered her nightmare-like memories.
It was also in a dim, narrow room where the person beside her, wearing a wild laugh, had brought the whip down on her Mama time and time again. Fear and terror had made her cry uncontrollably; she had reached out to grab her Mother’s hand, begging her to stop.
The demon in her memory had indeed stopped. She had looked down at the daughter clinging to her leg as if she had been touched by something filthy, furrowing her brows in disgust, and turned the whip in another direction. However, the high-raised whip didn’t land on Lin Xi; Lin Chen had used her body to shield her from the harm.
Lin Xi had watched with wide eyes as her Mama’s lips turned white from pain and sweat slid down her forehead.
Lin Xi didn’t know why her Mother loathed her and Mama so much. She had once tried hard to earn her Mother’s praise and affection, but to no avail. That yearning for parental love had been worn away by repeated punishments.
Then one day, Mother suddenly changed. Although she still appeared disgusted, she stopped bullying her and Mama, and her movements became gentle.
She had asked Mama if the old Mother would ever come back. Mama told her that Mother had recovered from an illness and returned to normal.
Being able to come out for her birthday with Mother and Mama today was the happiest thing in her life, but in this environment with only Mother beside her, she was instinctively afraid.
[Scum Value +15.]
“?” Yun Qi was confused by the sudden increase. “Little Scum, are you doing charity work?”
As soon as she asked, Yun Qi felt silly; it must be because Lin Xi was scared.
“Hold on tight, don’t run around, understand?” the Alpha said to her daughter with some impatience.
“So unlucky. Why is the ‘drag-along’ on my side?” The woman grumbled, sounding increasingly irritated.
“This is the ‘good’ you were talking about?” Mu Huo pointed at the person on the screen. “Someone with this attitude toward their own biological daughter can be called good?”
“But she hasn’t let go of Xi’er’s hand, has she?” Lin Chen ate the dessert on the table with total composure. She suspected Mu Huo wouldn’t find an opportunity to take Xi’er away after all.
Unlike the peace on Lin Chen’s side, Yun Qi was struggling to find an exit.
Exiting the corridor, they found a medium-sized living room with a round table in the center holding a white lamp.
Suddenly! The corridor lights began to go out. Yun Qi looked back and saw a humanoid monster emitting a ghostly glow appearing at the end of the hall. It was clearly visible even in the dark, wearing red prison clothes. The upper half of its face had no features—wrinkles replaced the eyes—while the lower half was covered in row after row of non-human teeth. It was as if a face had grown out of teeth, and the sharp fangs moved constantly. One look was enough to drop one’s SAN value.
Although she knew it was fake, the realistic special effects made Yun Qi uncomfortable, though it was much better than facing a ghost.
Yun Qi was afraid of ghosts. That was a secret she had kept tightly in her past life; no one knew except her grandfather. But monsters and such didn’t bother her much.
As the corridor lights went out one by one, the humanoid monster drew closer. Yun Qi quickly shut the door between the corridor and the living room, grabbed the lamp from the table, and led Lin Xi deeper into the rooms.
The living room connected to two bedrooms: one had no door but had a light; the other had a door but was pitch black. Thinking of the words Lin Chen saw earlier, Yun Qi prepared to head toward the doorless room—she could always block it with something else.
But as she approached, she saw a line of text on the door saying that only one person could enter a room, otherwise “things no one wants to see” would happen.
They really were dedicated to separating everyone. Yun Qi felt her pre-visit research hadn’t been enough; had she known it was like this, she would have chosen a different haunted house.
Yun Qi pushed Lin Xi into the doorless room, sternly telling her to stay put and not run around. Then, she took the lamp into the adjacent bedroom.
“A room without a door definitely can’t hold out, right, Little Scum?”
[I think the light is the most important part.]
“Don’t I have the light in my hand? A room without a door can’t block anything. The room I entered has a sturdy door, plus my light—it’s seamless.”
Yun Qi twirled the lamp in her hand, seemingly boasting to the system. “How scummy. Even though the danger is fake, ‘I’ still pushed my own daughter into the more dangerous room.”
[Just say what you want.] The system was disgusted by Yun Qi’s melodramatic tone.
“Scum Value.” Yun Qi was brief; she knew the system understood.
[…Scum Value +5.]
“Why so little?” Yun Qi was unsatisfied; this didn’t even cover the effort of her talking.
[You’ve added enough today. You’re hitting the daily cap soon.]
“There’s a cap?!”
Even though the living room door was being pounded with loud thuds, Yun Qi, bickering with the system, felt the noise was more like background music.
In the other bedroom, Lin Xi was led into the secret room. The surveillance had been turned off before she arrived.
Lin Chen picked up the daughter who lunged at her.
“Hello, Uncle Mu.” After snuggling with her Mama for a while, Lin Xi greeted the man beside them.
“It seems she still—”
“Was Xi’er scared just now?” Before Mu Huo could finish, Lin Chen began questioning her daughter, giving Mu Huo a secret glare to tell him not to speak out of turn.
“I wasn’t scared. Mother held my hand the whole time.”
Lin Chen handed a snack to Lin Xi, slowly stroking her soft hair.
Yun Qi’s side wasn’t going so well. The humanoid monster soon broke through the living room door. Because Yun Qi had taken the light, the monster passed through the living room unimpeded and reached the bedroom door, slamming against it with force.
Looks like I chose correctly before.
The haunted house designer wouldn’t want visitors to be completely defenseless; there must be other secrets to find in the bedroom.
While Yun Qi was searching the room, the lamp suddenly went out, and the door was burst open by the humanoid monster.
It quickly launched an attack. Yun Qi initially raised her arms in a symbolic defense, but the force hitting her arms told her this monster was for real.
Gradually, Yun Qi began to treat this encounter as a real battle, using her Alpha strength to brawl with the opponent. However, perhaps because it was her first time using this power, she was unpracticed and ended up bleeding during a block.
Just as Yun Qi was about to strike back, the monster froze, motionless.
A person in a staff uniform ran over frantically. “So sorry, so sorry! The system malfunctioned. We’ve caused you trouble, guest.”
Seeing the blood on Yun Qi, he called for medical staff to bandage her.
“I am so sorry. This visit will be completely free of charge.” The staff member said, handing over a gold card. “This is our haunted house gold card. It allows for reservations-free, free visits. No binding requirements, no limit on the number of people.”
“Where are my wife and daughter?” Yun Qi didn’t move, instead asking for Lin Chen’s location.
She had thought everyone was played by staff or robots and that there was no danger, but if the system malfunctioned, an Omega’s strength wouldn’t be able to resist. She had just glanced at the other bedroom door and hadn’t seen Xi’er.
“Please rest assured, they have both been invited to the lounge to rest.”
“Lead the way.” Having been in this world for so many days, Yun Qi unconsciously used a commanding tone when speaking.
At the lounge, Yun Qi’s heart finally settled when she saw Lin Chen and Lin Xi were perfectly fine.
“Are you alright?” Seeing the bandage on Yun Qi’s arm, Lin Chen’s face overflowed with heartache and self-blame. She shouldn’t have believed Mu Huo’s “prank.” Didn’t she already know what Mu Huo’s personality was like?
“Can’t die from it,” the Alpha said sarcastically. Getting injured playing in a haunted house… such an embarrassing thing must never be known. The regretful Duke didn’t want to stay a moment longer; she just wanted to leave quickly and bury this incident forever.
As for dealing with this haunted house, wouldn’t there be plenty of opportunities later? She’d just have the servants find an excuse. Right now, the priority was not exposing her identity. The Duke didn’t plan to continue the amusement park trip either. She was unhappy—why should she spend time making two people she “loathed” happy?
Once Lin Chen and Lin Xi were ready, the Duke ignored the staff member chasing after them to offer compensation and quickly exited the haunted house.
Because of the arm injury, Lin Chen took the initiative to offer to drive.
Contrary to her impatient exterior, Yun Qi was feeling extremely joyful inside.
I’m rich! I’m rich! Yun Qi hadn’t carefully calculated how much Scum Value was added this time, but it wouldn’t be a small amount. If possible, she wanted to buy a piece of the plot regarding the original host’s parents.
