After Being Transmigrated into a Cannon Fodder Scum Alpha - Chapter 12
The haunted house was styled like an abandoned school, with a sign hanging at the top that read “Mingcheng Ghost School.”
Its predecessor was indeed a school, which had been turned into a prison by the rebel army to hold captives during the Empire’s wars of the last century. Every evil known to man could be found within its walls. It was said that the owner spent over 500,000 interstellar credits to purchase the original torture instruments used by the rebels at a high price, supplementing them with tools used by murderers in other notorious cases to make the experience more authentic.
The metal angel statue at the entrance was a 100,000-credit commission from a famous Imperial designer, crafted from approximately 10,000 blades. Every single blade was a weapon that had claimed at least one vibrant life.
The Grand Duke led Lin Chen and Lin Xi to “appreciate” the eight-meter-tall Blade Angel. In her view, a “vase-like” Omega would surely be terrified by the murderous aura, and young Lin Xi might even have nightmares upon returning home.
Watching a loathed Omega cry from fear—wasn’t that a wonderful scene?
Yun Qi resolutely refused to mention her own fright in the cinema earlier.
“Wow! This angel is so cool!” Lin Xi leaned in with delight to take a closer look.
Wait… this is slightly different from what I envisioned?
“Don’t touch, Xi’er. Be polite.” Lin Chen stopped Lin Xi from reaching for the blades, pointing to the hanging sign. “Look, it says here ‘No Touching’.”
“Oh.” Lin Xi was clearly disappointed, dragging out her response, but she obediently withdrew her hand.
Lin Chen looked with amusement at the person beside her, who had stiffened for a moment. Is this the extent of an Alpha’s “malice”? It was quite a shallow level of mischief.
“Let’s go in.” Adjusting her facial expression, Yun Qi went to the entrance to sign the waiver.
Remarkably, one had to sign a liability waiver to enter this haunted house. Rumor had it that the atmosphere inside was so oppressive and realistic that a Beta once got separated from their friends while running and committed suicide out of sheer terror while alone.
Yun Qi glanced at the two behind her, thinking she must keep a close eye on them later and not get separated.
“In truth, even with someone accompanying them, the scenes inside are a challenge for a fragile Omega, aren’t they?”
[I think purposefully ditching them would net you more Scum Value.]
“But if something actually happens, the plot won’t be able to proceed. ‘Long-term sustainability’ is the way to go.”
Without waiting for the system’s reply, Yun Qi led Lin Chen and Lin Xi into the ghost school.
The staff at the door gave Yun Qi two automatic cameras, explaining it was a rule of the haunted house. The owner hoped every visitor could film a “unique movie” of their own, with the copyright belonging to both the house and the visitors.
Every month, the owner would select one to be the haunted house’s promotional video.
Each area had a different theme. Without consulting Lin Chen, Yun Qi chose the nearest Library and walked straight toward the right.
Lin Chen held her daughter’s hand and followed silently behind.
“Shouldn’t you give me some Scum Value now?” Yun Qi asked the system in her mind.
[Are you sick in the head?]
“I brought Lin Chen and the kid on a family trip but didn’t consult their opinions at all. Everything is decided by me. Isn’t that ‘Alpha Chauvinism’ and ‘Straight-A Syndrome’?”
“And haunted houses, horror movies… these aren’t meant for a child that young, right?” The “Big Bluffer” continued her logic. “So, I should get points for bringing them here, points for not asking their opinion, and points when they eventually get scared.”
[Scum Value +30.]
“!”
Yun Qi had only intended to try her luck with some “lip service,” not expecting it to actually work. She promptly shut her mouth; it wouldn’t do to push Little Scum too far. One must learn the art of the long game.
The Library concept came from the hallucinations of a college freshman named Paula. She had suffered through a tragic life and eventually turned to drugs to alleviate her worries. As the dosage increased, Paula frequently saw hallucinations; she also suffered from anorexia and eventually welcomed death with a smile during a “beautiful dream.” While clearing her belongings, people found Paula’s diary, which recorded various monsters and demons from her imagination trying to devour her.
Upon hearing this, the haunted house owner bought the diary and recreated those fantasies one by one in the Library.
“Hmm…” Yun Qi looked around. The Library had three floors above ground and one basement. The basement was designated as the living and resting area for the librarian.
“Let’s go to the basement (B1).”
“Okay.” No matter what Yun Qi said, Lin Chen remained agreeable.
The light in the elevator was incredibly bright—a piercing white light rarely seen in a haunted house.
When the elevator slowly stopped at B1, Yun Qi, as the Alpha, was the first to step out. Ahead was a straight corridor. Two wires ran across the ceiling, hanging one white light after another, illuminating the area so thoroughly that not a speck of darkness could be found.
What kind of haunted house is this? Yun Qi felt a bit disappointed.
“Mama, look.” Lin Xi suddenly spoke up, tugging at Lin Chen’s sleeve and pointing her finger.
“Don’t… lose… the… light?” Lin Chen squatted down, struggling to make out the blurry handwriting on the wall. it looked like something the owner had scrawled in a panic.
It seemed the key to B1 was indeed these ubiquitous white lights.
“Tch.” The young Alpha sneered. “It seems this haunted house is just a name without substance.”
She walked forward quickly. For the first time, Lin Xi followed closely behind her “Mother” rather than her “Mama.”
After walking a distance, the Alpha stopped and turned to mock Lin Chen, who was moving with extreme caution.
“An Omega is just an Omega—always so cowardly and timid.” The arrogant Duke couldn’t help but mock her.
A flash of darkness crossed Lin Chen’s eyes. Although she knew Yun Qi didn’t harbor true malice, these words were truly unpleasant to hear. An Alpha who doesn’t know how to speak needs a teacher to give her a proper lesson.
Suddenly, a wall appeared between Yun Qi and Lin Chen, separating them.
“Long time no see. I heard from Nan Yue that you’re doing well.” A man who looked somewhat similar to Lin Chen appeared.
“Average.” With Yun Qi and Lin Xi gone, Lin Chen’s voice turned cold.
“Do you see anything different about me now?” The man ignored Lin Chen’s coldness and spread his arms before her in a boastful manner.
Lin Chen looked closely at the man and suddenly shouted at him:
“Mu Huo! Didn’t we say I would be in charge of this experiment?” Lin Chen’s chest heaved with anger; this was the first time she had shown such outward emotion in a long time.
“But the result is good, isn’t it?” Mu Huo remained smiling. “Want to see what will happen to our noble Grand Duke in a moment?”
Lin Chen was still slightly angry. “Don’t lay a hand on my Alpha and daughter!”
“I’ll find a chance to get Xi’er out later. I’ve always known what that person did before. Since she finally came to my place, letting her stretch her limbs will be good for her health.”
Mu Huo obviously knew he couldn’t let the Duke get injured on his turf, but a few small pranks shouldn’t hurt, right?
Lin Chen thought of the words the “stubborn-mouthed” Alpha had just said and fell silent. Perhaps this was a good opportunity to let the Alpha know what should and shouldn’t be said.
Besides, with her watching, nothing too serious would happen.
Seeing that Lin Chen didn’t object, Mu Huo smiled and led her into a secret room to chat.
