After Being Transmigrated into a Cannon Fodder Scum Alpha - Chapter 15
Yun Qi didn’t sleep well. In her dreams, she returned to that cramped wardrobe. The two people on the sofa seemed to have left, and the entire study was deathly silent.
As the sunlight streamed in, Yun Qi wanted to stretch her curled-up limbs. Looking at her open palms, she was surprised to find that she could actually control this body now.
After moving her body slightly to ensure the departed pair wouldn’t suddenly return, Yun Qi pushed open the wardrobe door and stepped out. The warm, cozy scene before her felt like a massive irony. She tried to push open the study door, wanting to see if there were any other clues in the Ducal Mansion during this time period, but she failed.
It seemed the dreamscape was limited to the small confines of the study. Yun Qi examined her surroundings; she felt this was a scene the original host’s subconscious could never forget, awakened by the memories she saw before bed. As for why she couldn’t leave, it was likely because the original host had once found something deeply impressionable in this room.
Yun Qi felt the clues must be hidden among the things that “disappeared” in later time periods.
Perhaps because of the experience of being curled up in the wardrobe all night, the original host grew to loathe it and discarded it; the sofa where the mother and that Beta male had their “exercise” was also replaced. Excluding these two options, Yun Qi focused her gaze on two pure white, flowerless vases by the window.
The moment her hand touched a vase, a memory flooded into Yun Qi’s mind.
A tiny “Yun Qi” was alone in the study, panting heavily, smashing one of the vases violently onto the ground. She even used her feet to crush the shattered fragments, where a glint of gold seemed to flash.
Snapping back to the present, Yun Qi overturned the vase, and a golden pocket watch fell out. It was engraved with exquisite patterns, and in the center was the crest of the Garcia family—the original host’s mother’s maiden name.
“A very old pocket watch.” Yun Qi opened it to find a small, yellowed photograph of her mother and that man from earlier. They looked very young in the photo, around twelve years old. The boy looked a bit stiff, his head turned to the left, unwilling to look at the camera, wearing what appeared to be servant’s clothes. The girl was much more outgoing, linking her arm with the boy’s and enthusiastically flashing a “V” sign at the lens.
“So they actually knew each other for a long time?” As Yun Qi looked at the photo, there was movement outside the door. Just as she was about to hide back in the wardrobe, the door opened—and she woke up.
She summoned the butler and asked if her mother had brought any personal servants with her when she married into the family. Out of consideration for her mother’s reputation, she didn’t directly ask about the Beta male.
The butler nodded, and Yun Qi requested that the records of those servants be organized and handed to her.
In the bedroom, Yun Qi leafed through the materials sent by the butler. She now felt a psychological shadow over the study and probably wouldn’t go there for a while.
Among the people in the records, Yun Qi didn’t recognize a single one from the current mansion staff; the original host had likely dismissed them all. Most were female Omegas. After searching for a long while, she finally found the Beta male from her memory.
Jack. A name so common it couldn’t be more ordinary. He was born into a family subordinate to the Garcias and was sent to the Garcia household at the age of eight to be the personal attendant for the newborn Demi—the original host’s mother.
After Demi married into the Yun family, he followed her, but he resigned and left when the original host was six. He was described as calm, steady, and gentle, maintaining good relations with many servants. However, his resignation was abrupt; he didn’t tell anyone, just stopped showing up one day. The old Duke later explained that Jack had submitted a letter of resignation.
Notably, Demi had argued with the old Duke over this, claiming that since Jack was from her family, he should have notified her before leaving. The atmosphere in the mansion was icy for a period, but fortunately, after a few weeks, the old Duke coaxed Demi back into smiles, and life returned to normal.
What Yun Qi didn’t notice was that a section of the scroll in the System Mall lit up.
“Perhaps Jack was discovered by the old Duke? Not a resignation, but a death. What do you think, Little Scum?” Yun Qi felt this guess was very logical.
[I have no thoughts on the matter,] the system replied dryly.
Yun Qi thought of Xu Jilin. Come to think of it, since she asked her to track down Yi Fei, no news had come back except for that one inquiry.
“Jilin, any clues on Yi Fei’s side?”
“Grand Duke, I am so sorry…” Xu Jilin sounded extremely guilty.
“It’s fine. Go look for news of Jack, a Beta male brought over from the Garcia family by my mother.”
“Understood.”
After hanging up, Yun Qi sprawled out on the bed in an “X” shape. She wasn’t sleepy, just tired. Having dreamed all night, she felt she was about to transcend mortality.
Knock, knock.
Knock, knock.
Yun Qi didn’t want to respond. She remembered telling the butler long ago not to disturb her without a request. But the person outside kept knocking at a steady, unhurried pace, as if she intended to keep going until Yun Qi let her in.
“Enter!” The persistent knocking left her no peace. Yun Qi wanted to see who exactly was at the door; without a good reason, she might get very angry.
She didn’t realize that while maintaining the original host’s persona, her behavior and psychology were subconsciously drifting closer to the original host.
Lin Chen walked in carrying bandages and a first-aid kit, accompanied by a faint, lingering scent of lily.
“The butler told me you didn’t let anyone change your bandages last night.” The Omega looked at Yun Qi’s injured arm with concern.
If Lin Chen hadn’t mentioned it, Yun Qi would have almost forgotten. Her thoughts had been occupied by Jack and her mother, but with Lin Chen’s words, her right arm began to throb slightly.
Because she felt disgusted by certain “activities” in the memory, she hadn’t wanted to touch anyone else, nor did she call a doctor. She had simply taken a bath while being careful not to let the water hit the bandage.
She nodded and agreed.
Lin Chen came to serve me of her own accord. A Scum Alpha is trash, not an idiot; no point in refusing a free service.
[If you had bought the Basic Body Strengthening Agent yesterday, this little wound would have healed completely in a few hours,] the system chimed in, ignoring Yun Qi’s excuse.
Lin Chen slowly unwound the bandages. Some had started sticking to the flesh and needed to be peeled away with extreme care.
“Wasn’t the Random Memory I bought yesterday more valuable?” Yun Qi didn’t regret last night’s choice.
“Do you think my sister is pretty?” the Omega asked softly while keeping her head down to tie the bandage.
Lin Yaoyao? Yun Qi didn’t have much of an impression of her. Her presence in the plot wasn’t strong, though because of her mother, Yun Qi didn’t particularly like her.
“A rather cute Omega. Much better than some wooden ones who don’t know how to dress themselves,” the Duke replied with a smile, recalling who Lin Chen was talking about.
Lin Yaoyao was much cuter than her sister, possessing a youthful charm. Her coquettishness was very soothing, and she was very tactful, never disturbing when she shouldn’t.
“True,” the Omega echoed, “otherwise you wouldn’t have specifically sought out those books to lend her.”
Lin Chen’s voice remained soft and cotton-like. She kept her head down, and Yun Qi couldn’t see her expression, but the tone made Yun Qi’s skin crawl.
“What, are you trying to control me now?” The Duke felt uncomfortable with Lin Chen’s questioning. What right did she have to interrogate her?
Suddenly, a rich lily fragrance exploded into the room, surging from Lin Chen’s gland directly toward Yun Qi, catching her off guard.
Lilies and Sea Lavender are the most compatible; that was why Demi and Lin Chen’s mother had arranged the betrothal in the first place.
Lin Chen slumped onto Yun Qi somewhat painfully, as if it were all an accident.
“Sorry, I think… my heat has arrived.” Due to the influence of the heat, Lin Chen’s body became extremely sensitive and… greedy.
To Lin Chen, Yun Qi’s body felt icy and cool—perfect for alleviating the burning heat in her own. Driven by instinct, she rubbed against Yun Qi incessantly, yet remained unsatisfied.
Lin Chen leaned her head against Yun Qi’s neck, her soft hair brushing against Yun Qi and making her itch.
Yun Qi vaguely remembered that an Alpha prince in the Empire had once angrily denounced the transformation from pure human to ABO as a regression, saying that through the long river of time, humans had finally turned back into beasts—beasts driven by pheromones and heat cycles.
Sea Lavender ultimately couldn’t withstand the temptation of the Lily. It emerged hesitantly and began a series of activities not permitted by Jinjiang censors.
Yun Qi felt her head swimming. Her logic seemed to have flown to the horizon, no longer belonging to her; every action was based on primal instinct.
In a daze, Yun Qi seemed to hear Lin Chen asking whether she thought she was prettier or her sister was. Yun Qi didn’t remember what she answered, or if she answered at all. She only knew that afterward, Lin Chen clung to her even more passionately, a beautiful melody escaping her crimson lips.
