After Being Transmigrated into a Cannon Fodder Scum Alpha - Chapter 16
When Yun Qi woke up, the room was shrouded in pitch darkness.
Her head throbbed with a dull ache. She tried to roll over, only to realize with a jolt of alarm that she was being tightly entangled by someone. The sound of light, shallow breathing reached her ears, and the memories she had deliberately tried to suppress came flooding back—memories saturated with the scent of lilies and Sea Lavender.
Crimson cheeks, heated gasps, and passionate responses… the scenes flashed before Yun Qi’s eyes one by one, finally freezing on that figure driven by primal instinct. Even though that person shared her face, she felt utterly like a stranger.
Yun Qi felt she needed to go to another room to cool down and sort out her thoughts.
The Omega beside her was sleeping soundly. Yun Qi had to move with extreme caution, slowly detaching the arms and legs wrapped around her.
Left with an empty embrace, the Omega seemed uncomfortable and furrowed her brows. There was only one pillow, which Lin Chen was currently using. Yun Qi looked around and finally took a scattered pile of clothes from the bedside, balled them up, and tucked them into the Omega’s arms.
The pile included both Yun Qi’s and Lin Chen’s clothes, lingering with the pheromones of both individuals. After a night, the scent wasn’t as intense as it had been, but Lin Chen still clutched the bundle tightly in her arms.
An Alpha’s pheromones have a soothing effect on an Omega, especially when the Omega is in such a “special period.”
As Yun Qi prepared to stand up, she found the Omega’s hand had somehow grabbed her arm again. Lin Chen’s fair arm was exposed to the air due to Yun Qi’s movement. Yun Qi gently pried Lin Chen’s hand off, tucked it back under the covers, and wrapped the corners of the quilt tightly to keep the cold air out.
Then, Yun Qi went to the wardrobe, picked out several dark-colored items, and dressed.
Deprived of the comfort of the “humanoid Sea Lavender,” the Lily scent seemed somewhat restless. During this period, an Omega possesses an extraordinary dependence on her partner. She tossed and turned unconsciously on the bed, kicking aside the quilt Yun Qi had just tucked in, exposing large patches of skin while letting out dissatisfied murmurs.
Yun Qi looked at the scene with a headache. Recalling the physiology classes the original host had taken at school, she pulled a large, oversized garment from the wardrobe. Following what the teachers had taught, she saturated the fabric with a thick layer of her own pheromones, re-wrapped Lin Chen in the quilt, and draped the scented garment over her.
The garment happened to cover the lower half of Lin Chen’s face. She shrunk down, enveloping herself entirely under the fabric, and rubbed her face against it, finally regaining her calm.
Yun Qi could finally leave with a clear mind.
She had been negligent before; she had forgotten that she could directly question those who had personally experienced those years. She had the butler lead her to the room Jack used to occupy—the innermost room on the second floor.
“Jack lived here before he left. It used to be a single room, but the Old Master later converted it into a multi-person dormitory.” The butler led Yun Qi in after ordering the servants currently residing there to leave.
“The interior decoration was also changed back then. The Old Master was worried the Old Mistress would be sad seeing it.”
“What about the furniture? Did Jack take it with him?” The room had changed completely; there was likely nothing left to find.
“Jack left very suddenly,” the butler recalled. “It wasn’t like his usual style. He was very rigorous and organized in everything he did.”
After a moment of thought, Yun Qi “casually” explained to the butler—an elder who had watched her grow up—that she simply wanted to see how her mother used to live.
“What about the people who came here with my mother? Are any still in the mansion?”
The butler’s expression turned troubled. After hesitating, she spoke. “After Jack left, you fell seriously ill. When you woke up, you insisted the Old Master drive them all out, saying they were the ones who infected you.”
Yun Qi was stunned for a moment, then gave a perfunctory wave of her hand and stopped asking about those people.
She had the butler summon some of the oldest servants in the house to the living room to ask if there was anything unusual about Jack before he left.
The servants racked their brains but all stated he had been no different from usual. Just as Yun Qi was about to dismiss them, a maid spoke up hesitantly, saying she had once seen Jack trying to go to the third floor. He had hesitated at the staircase for a long time, and when he finally went up, he came back down very quickly, as if he hadn’t done anything.
“The third floor…” The third floor was where the original host’s parents lived. It was also where the original host lived, in the room next to her parents—though that room had since become a storage room.
So, was Jack trying to go up to find Demi back then? The original host, hidden in the wardrobe, saw their secret and, in her fury, told her father. Then the Old Duke had someone assassinate Jack.
The logic seemed to straighten itself out.
This explained why the original host, even after losing her memory, felt a sense of resistance toward her mother—and likely her father too, since photographs always featured the two of them together.
With that matter settled, a much more vexing problem was waiting for her: How was she supposed to face Lin Chen?
“Little Scum, are there any items in the Mall that can reverse time?”
[No. And even if there were, you couldn’t afford them.] The system, which had been locked in the “little black room” for a long time, spoke up irritably, feeling quite gratified by its host’s miserable expression.
“Fine.” Yun Qi had expected this result, but she was still disappointed.
She didn’t want to stay in the Ducal Mansion anymore. Whether it was an illusion or not, she felt the entire estate was permeated with the scent of lilies, cluttering her thoughts and tempting her back to her bedroom. Yet, looking at others’ reactions, it seemed she was the only one who could smell it.
Yun Qi didn’t know that this was a normal post-mating reaction. What the physiology teachers hadn’t taught was that after bonding, not only does the Omega become more dependent on the Alpha, but the Alpha’s desire for control over the Omega also intensifies. They feel the urge to watch their Omega at all times, guarding their prey, using their fangs to inject pheromones into the glands, circling the Omega to declare sovereignty.
Just then, her communicator rang. It was one of the original host’s friends, inviting her out for a gathering.
Grateful for the chance to leave, Yun Qi agreed.
Before going, Yun Qi told the butler that Lin Chen was in a “special period.” She knew the butler would handle things.
Isn’t this the perfect display of my scumminess? Running out right after bonding. While the Omega is in such desperate need of Alpha care, I’m out drinking. Truly scummy. I only told the butler because I want her to know I don’t like this partner; otherwise, I wouldn’t run out during such a critical time.
Sure enough, the butler frowned disapprovingly upon hearing Yun Qi’s words. But since Yun Qi was the master, she couldn’t say much; she could only prepare extra supplements for the poor Madam later.
[Projected the image of a world-class Scum Alpha to the butler. Scum Value +20.]
At the designated meeting place, Yun Qi saw someone she hadn’t expected—Jin Mo.
Ever since their last unpleasant encounter, Jin Mo hadn’t contacted her again. She had thought that given the star’s pride, she wouldn’t want to see her again.
Qi Luo, a blonde Alpha, winked at Yun Qi, saying he had to invite Jin Mo for a long time before she agreed to come out, and told Yun Qi to properly coax the beauty beside her. The Qi family was a titan on par with the Lin, Fang, and Zhou families. Like Fang Qing, Qi Luo was the second child of the main lineage. The difference was that Fang Qing was a prodigy in others’ eyes, while Qi Luo was a socialite loafer.
Jin Mo looked at the sky and the ground—anywhere but at Yun Qi. She was clearly still angry.
The careless Qi Luo didn’t smell the lily pheromones clinging to his friend, but Jin Mo, being an Omega herself, was exceptionally sensitive to it. However, she didn’t show it; she remembered Yun Qi saying she didn’t like “disobedient” people who tried to control her.
“Got it,” Yun Qi replied flatly.
After entering the private room, Yun Qi realized quite a few people were there. Many faces were familiar—people the original host used to hang out with. Every Alpha was surrounded by an Omega. After bringing Yun Qi in, Qi Luo returned to his seat, leaving Jin Mo to Yun Qi.
The atmosphere was a bit awkward, but fortunately, other friends hadn’t seen Yun Qi in a long time and kept offering her toasts.
Before Yun Qi transmigrated, the original host would come out several times a week to party with these friends, living a life of debauchery. Sometimes they even “exchanged” Omegas. Due to her status, the original host had always been the leader of the pack.
Later, someone—it wasn’t clear who—brought Jin Mo into this small circle, and she became the Omega who stayed with the original host the longest. Although the original host brought other Omegas, the turnover rate was high; after Yun Qi brought them once or twice, they were never seen again. In the eyes of this group of friends, Jin Mo was already considered Yun Qi’s private Omega, off-limits to others.
Despite how lively the room was, it didn’t stir a single ripple in Yun Qi’s heart. she felt it was all quite dull.
After enduring it for a while, she told Qi Luo her head hurt. Ignoring her friends’ pleas to stay, she left the room. There were always rooms reserved for them here; the original host used to sleep here directly if she played too late.
Yun Qi planned to stay the night here today as well; she still didn’t know how to face Lin Chen.
Jin Mo followed Yun Qi out and entered the room with her. For certain reasons, Yun Qi didn’t refuse.
Seeing that Yun Qi didn’t object, Jin Mo released her pheromones, shyly touching Yun Qi’s own.
It was the scent of jasmine, but Yun Qi only felt disgusted. Having reached a conclusion she didn’t want to reach, she drove Jin Mo out. Due to her mood, her movements were somewhat rough.
Jin Mo stared at Yun Qi in disbelief, but she obediently left anyway.
Lying back on the bed, Yun Qi felt at a loss. It wasn’t just any Omega’s pheromones that could trigger her body’s impulses; even Jin Mo, the “number one beauty,” couldn’t do it.
Perhaps the reputation of the number one beauty was a bit exaggerated. Before, Lin Chen wore the most conservative, old-fashioned clothes and didn’t bother with her hair, which masked her true looks. Now, if Lin Chen and Jin Mo stood together, no one would choose Jin Mo as number one.
Lingering with the scent left behind by Jin Mo’s pheromones, Yun Qi felt a bit nauseous—as if she had been spat on. She went into the bathroom and showered for a long time.
Finally, Yun Qi reached a conclusion: it was just that Sea Lavender and Lilies had too high a compatibility. It wasn’t about the person; she was simply driven by instinct. Then, she lay on the bed and fell asleep.
