After Being Transmigrated into a Cannon Fodder Scum Alpha - Chapter 27
On the drive home, Yun Qi was still ruminating on those fleeting scenes: the inexplicably familiar ancient altar and the mysterious diviner.
She didn’t believe what she saw was a mere hallucination. She had kept the words the diviner once spoke to her etched in her heart; perhaps her arrival in this world wasn’t an accident after all?
Then there was the pendant around Xi’er’s neck. She felt it had to be connected to that ancient altar, and perhaps, to her as well.
Yun Qi thought about the Scum Value she had recently earned and the scroll in the mall that she hadn’t revisited since that first glance. She decided that once she got back, she would need to properly organize her thoughts.
By the time the sky was draped in a layer of ink, Yun Qi finally returned to the Ducal Mansion.
The butler had been waiting outside since receiving word of her return. Dinner had been prepared over and over again; to ensure Yun Qi and Lin Chen ate only the freshest food, the portions that had cooled were given to the other servants.
Yun Qi declined the dinner the butler had ready. Perhaps because her bodily functions had been altered by the agent, she wasn’t hungry at all.
She told the butler that Lin Chen was feeling a bit unwell, then she carried the little snowy owl back to her own bedroom.
[Scum Value +20.]
Yun Qi was stunned for a moment before realizing the butler must have misunderstood something again.
Yun Qi placed the little snowy owl on the bed. It curiously trod upon the soft surface beneath its feet, playing by itself.
Yun Qi opened the System Mall; the top-left corner showed her current Scum Value was 171.
She clicked on the “Surface and Inner Worlds.” In the Surface World, the other characters were as blurry as the first time she looked, but the appearance of the original host’s mother was clearer than before—she was a woman with a very brilliant smile.
She was wearing a white dress, waving at the camera.
[You can try clicking on it.]
Yun Qi followed the instruction and clicked on Demi’s scroll. After a dizzying sensation, she saw a cute girl—it was Demi in her childhood.
Demi was feeding a strawberry to a boy beside her. The boy kept refusing, but Demi forced it into his mouth anyway.
A crimson flush climbed up the boy’s earlobes, and laughter burst from the girl’s mouth.
The following scenes were all interactions between the boy and the girl, spanning the girl’s childhood and youth.
Anyone could see they were in a state of mutual secret infatuation.
The scene shifted: the girl heard her father was going to marry her off to an Alpha she had never met. After several failed attempts at rebellion, she cried out of anger and ran to the boy’s room to confess her love. The boy looked at his “Young Mistress” with confusion and rejected her confession. After Demi ran out, the boy dropped his facade and punched the wall.
The final scene showed the girl expressionlessly marrying the Alpha her father had chosen—the original host’s father.
Returning from the Surface World, Yun Qi opened the Inner World.
The first time she saw the Inner World, it was pitch black with nothing in it. This time, three figures appeared. Demi and Jack were embracing, lying on the sofa in the study—exactly the scene Yun Qi had witnessed before. The other figure was somewhat unexpected: the mysterious diviner, though her scroll was a bit dim.
The diviner was wearing purple robes, kneeling upon the altar.
The diviner was dressed exactly as Yun Qi had seen from the car, but the altar was different—the altar on the scroll was complete, not the dilapidated ruin she had seen in the Ross Forest.
Yun Qi tried clicking on the diviner, but nothing happened.
[You can only open it once you’ve unlocked the relevant memories,] the system explained.
“Fine.” She hadn’t held much hope anyway.
She closed the Surface and Inner Worlds.
“Purchase one Random Plot.” It would be great if it’s related to the diviner, Yun Qi prayed internally.
After experiencing the same darkness as last time, Yun Qi found her current body seemed to be tailing someone.
The young Alpha was tiptoeing behind a figure, hiding whenever the person in front turned around.
It’s Jack!
They reached a small alley.
“Come out,” Jack said to the space behind him.
The young Alpha stepped out. Seeing it was the young “Yun Qi,” Jack was somewhat surprised; he thought it would be someone sent by the Old Duke.
That time he had wanted to go upstairs to find Demi, he had unexpectedly run into “Yun Qi” coming down. “Yun Qi” told him the Old Duke wanted him to resign voluntarily to save face for both parties, so he knew the Old Duke already knew everything.
He understood that only if he went far away would the Old Duke spare Demi. Later, sensing he was being followed on the road, he thought the Old Duke was still bitter and had sent someone to kill him.
He had long since accepted his fate, as long as the Old Duke spared Demi. He just didn’t expect the one coming would be “Yun Qi.”
“Why would I tell Father about the filthy things you’ve done and soil his ears?” Facing Jack’s confusion, “Yun Qi” replied with a smile.
The Old Duke didn’t know about this matter; the decision to make Jack resign wasn’t his—it was made by “Yun Qi” on his behalf.
Jack looked at the young Alpha with some apology as she attacked. To an adult, a young Alpha’s attacks weren’t lethal.
Subsequently, the young Alpha opened fire on the person before her. Jack’s astonished expression was reflected in her pupils.
Jack seemed very guilty for what he had done, or perhaps he didn’t expect “Yun Qi” to hate him so much; he was completely defenseless against her actions.
So the one who killed Jack was the original host. Yun Qi realized everything she had deduced before was wrong. The Old Duke wasn’t involved; the original host had personally killed this “stain”—her mother’s stain.
What surprised her was that, from an observer’s perspective, she could see Jack had the chance to kill the original host, yet he had only performed pure defense. Even when he was finally killed by the original host with a gun, his eyes held only astonishment, not hatred.
Back in the bedroom, Yun Qi recalled that when she had Xu Jilin investigate Jack last time, they already had a file on him.
That must have come from the Old Earl. The original host’s first murder… she must have acted strangely upon returning home, which was then noticed by her father. Discovering that Jack’s resignation coincided with his daughter’s strange behavior, he sent people to investigate him, Yun Qi thought.
What about Demi? Did she discover that her favorite daughter killed the person she loved most?
Or perhaps, Demi eventually discovered Jack’s death was related to someone close to her, but mistakenly thought it was the Old Duke’s doing—which led to that great fire, and why only the original host survived?
Yun Qi pressed her temples, feeling a bit of a headache.
She still wanted to know the memories related to the diviner, that altar, and the pendant in her hand.
Yun Qi observed the pendant in her hand, which she had borrowed from Xi’er in the car.
She had chatted with the teachers on the way back, leading the conversation toward the altar and the small gifts.
According to the teachers, the gifts in previous years were usually rare herbs from the Ross Forest or potions developed by Professor Lu Nian. They were also surprised to see a pendant today.
Yun Qi asked who was responsible for the gifts, and they said it was the Principal.
Perhaps she should have Jilin go meet the Principal of Xi’er’s school.
Knock, knock. Knock, knock.
A knock came from outside the door, with some considerable force.
“Come in.”
It was the butler. Yun Qi remembered saying she wanted to rest and didn’t want anyone to disturb her.
At this late hour, why would the usually rule-abiding butler violate her words?
“The Madam is with child!” The butler excitedly shared the good news with Yun Qi.
After the Master told her the Madam was unwell, she had summoned a doctor to examine her. After checking Lin Chen, the doctor told her with a smile that the Madam was pregnant.
Hearing such good news, even though the Master had said she didn’t want to be disturbed, she still came to report it.
“!” Yun Qi’s pupils dilated in shock.
Another tether…
She didn’t want any tethers to the people of this world because she would eventually leave to return to her own. Yet, under the influence of pheromones, she had broken the boundaries between her and Lin Chen time and time again.
Yes, in Yun Qi’s heart, all her strange feelings toward Lin Chen were driven by pheromones; a 100% compatibility could make one lose themselves. Perhaps there was also some pity for the protagonist after reading the whole plot.
Yet, an unstoppable joy bubbled up from the depths of her heart. Yun Qi firmly believed this joy came from an Alpha’s instinct—the instinct to reproduce—rather than from herself.
Even if her mind went through a thousand twists and turns, the curl of her lips betrayed her.
Seeing Yun Qi happy made the butler happy too. This at least proved Yun Qi liked and anticipated this child.
The little snowy owl also pitter-pattered over; it had heard too.
It had seen Yun Qi when it hatched, so it treated her as its mother and Lin Chen as its mama. Now that Lin Chen was pregnant, in its mind, it meant Lin Chen “had an egg.” It was going to have a younger brother or sister.
It pecked at Yun Qi excitedly, wanting her to take it to see the “freshly produced egg” immediately.
The butler looked with some surprise at the little white creature chirping at Yun Qi’s feet. She had seen the Master holding a bundle of white earlier but hadn’t asked, thinking it was a pet duck or something. Now seeing it fully, she realized it was a creature she had never seen before, but it looked quite well-behaved.
“The doctor said the Madam is newly pregnant and may need ‘irrigation’ from her partner’s pheromones.” Seeing Yun Qi hadn’t reacted, the butler prompted.
Irrigation? Is it what I think it means?
While Yun Qi was at a loss, Lin Chen came up wearing pajamas.
The Omega looked at Yun Qi with a shy smile.
Lin Chen actually had a premonition back in the Ross Forest, but she hadn’t been certain. Today, after hearing the doctor’s words, the thought “as expected” appeared in her mind.
In her memory, the young Yun Qi had always loved snow-white rabbits. They had once raised a Netherland Dwarf rabbit together, but then the rabbit died, and Yun Qi changed…
The current Yun Qi gave her a sense of familiarity. The little snowy owl was also pure white; if the young Alpha saw it, she would probably love it.
She had prepared these pajamas long ago—pure white, with fluffy rabbit ears and even a rabbit tail on the pants. Finally, she had a chance to bring them out.
If the effect was good, she could have someone customize pajamas that looked just like Xiao Xue.
The Omega in a pure white rabbit outfit was quite striking. Perhaps due to the pregnancy, the originally pure little rabbit looked a bit seductive.
It was a sight Yun Qi could not resist.
Giving birth is very painful, and the ten months of pregnancy are very hard. Anyway, another child isn’t a loss for me. If I don’t let her sleep here and she has a miscarriage, Lin Chen won’t have to suffer for ten months.
After explaining to Little Scum, Yun Qi tacitly agreed to let Lin Chen move into her bedroom.
