After I Became A Divine Beast In An Immortal Sect [Transmigration into a Book] - Chapter 14
The farce Meng Li’an caused on Xianmiao Peak soon spread throughout the entire sect.
Taken lightly, the matter was nothing more than disciples privately helping one another. It was rather far-fetched to implicate a Peak Master over it.
If Elder Lingxi had truly wanted to support a particular disciple’s rise to power, she had plenty of ways to do so without anyone noticing.
Moreover, Xianmiao Peak was famously open and upright. Meng Li’an’s actions were the truly suspicious part.
He clearly knew that, for the sake of fairness, the Sect Master had forbidden Xianmiao Peak and Suhui Peak from interfering in the Peak Master selection. Yet he had still brought out the Ice Jade Chalice during the trial.
If Xianmiao Peak had not instructed him to do so, then he must have deliberately been trying to frame them.
Perhaps someone had even ordered him to scheme against Xianmiao Peak!
When Meng Li’an heard the rumors, he nearly died of frustration.
When he first devised the plan, he truly had not considered everything so thoroughly. He had only thought that since Xianmiao Peak and Suhui Peak were at odds, publicly displaying his loyalty inside the Heart-Tempering Realm might win the trust of Elder Lingxi and the Sect Master.
He had never expected Elder Jingming to seize upon the matter and turn it into a weapon against Xianmiao Peak.
Had he known this would happen, why would he ever have schemed against Yunsheng?
In the end, not only had he failed to establish a connection, but he had also offended everyone involved.
He had truly failed to steal the chicken and lost the rice used as bait as well.
……
Several more days passed in the blink of an eye.
By the time Hua Ling finally replaced all the down covering her body with sturdier feathers and learned how to glide for short distances, her caretaker suddenly proposed taking her outside.
Hua Ling tilted her head and examined her caretaker from top to bottom.
Cheng Suxi had disguised herself as a scholar.
“What is it? Do you no longer recognize me?”
Cheng Suxi had neatly tied up her hair with a green ribbon. A faint smile rested on her lips as she extended an arm for Hua Ling to jump onto.
Hua Ling felt that her caretaker looked somewhat different from usual.
After hesitating briefly, she flapped her wings and flew onto the offered arm.
The flying sword sped swiftly through the air.
Afraid that such a tiny ball of fluff might be blown away, Cheng Suxi stuffed Hua Ling into her robes the moment she stepped onto the sword.
“Chirp, chirp, chirp!”
Hua Ling stuck out her head and cried out in protest, only for a hand to press against her forehead and push her back inside.
“You are not allowed to come out.”
Cheng Suxi “threatened” her, “Otherwise, today’s Ice Crystal Fruit will be reduced by half.”
Hua Ling immediately curled up obediently inside her caretaker’s robes and did not dare move again.
Her staple foods were still spirit grain and Spirit Jade Marrow, but neither had much flavor.
Therefore, Ice Crystal Fruit was currently her absolute favorite snack.
Every time her caretaker used it as a threat, Hua Ling had no choice but to behave.
This is not surrender. It is a strategic retreat. How can I oppose my caretaker without first eating my fill?
Everyone said the Peak Master of Xianmiao Peak was coldhearted and detached, but Hua Ling thought her caretaker was extremely wicked. She was always teasing her.
Once Hua Ling grew up, she would definitely take revenge.
After traveling for approximately three or four hours, Cheng Suxi finally withdrew her flying sword and descended from the sky.
Having been confined for far too long, Hua Ling impatiently flew out of her robes. She glided a short distance before landing on the ground.
“Chirp, chirp, chirp!”
After exhausting all her strength from flying such a tiny distance, Hua Ling sprawled righteously on the ground and summoned her caretaker.
Cheng Suxi helplessly stepped forward, picked her up, and placed her on her arm.
Hua Ling patted her belly with one wing and chirped twice in a flattering manner.
Cheng Suxi understood immediately.
“Hungry?”
Hua Ling nodded.
She is becoming increasingly delicate from being spoiled…
Cheng Suxi sighed inwardly but still coaxed her gently.
“Endure it a little longer. I will take you to eat something good soon.”
Hua Ling blinked her glossy black eyes and rubbed against her caretaker’s neck in agreement.
After walking for a short while, they arrived at a small city called Jiangyong.
Jiangyong City was located along the border between the Qianyuan Sect and the Danxia Sect. It was home to both cultivators and mortals.
Because of its advantageous geographical position, it was famous for its markets. Many cultivators sold pills and magical artifacts there, while mortals also offered all kinds of unusual trinkets.
Hua Ling stared at the dazzling variety of goods lining both sides of the street and felt that she did not have enough eyes to take everything in.
Unfortunately, not only was she completely penniless, but she was also being financially supported by her caretaker.
She could only feast her eyes.
Cheng Suxi had intended to buy a small bell for her divine beast to wear, but Hua Ling’s sharp, miserable shrieks quickly made her abandon the idea.
Hua Ling: I will never wear a bell. I would rather die!
When they arrived in front of a restaurant, Cheng Suxi was about to enter when a person suddenly flew out from inside.
Hua Ling was startled. Losing her balance, she toppled from her caretaker’s shoulder.
Cheng Suxi reacted quickly and caught her with one hand.
After landing flat on her back in her caretaker’s palm, Hua Ling chirped angrily. She hopped upright and looked toward the ground.
An old man with a face covered in stubble was lying there, barely conscious.
He wore coarse hemp clothes riddled with holes and clutched a filthy bundle in his arms. Dark circles shadowed his eyes, and his face was deathly pale.
A young waiter then emerged from the restaurant and pointed at the old man while cursing.
“You blind old fool! You dared come to our Bichun Pavilion and cause trouble? You must have swallowed the courage of a bear and a leopard!”
Someone nearby who knew the situation sighed.
“Old Zhang has gone mad. That broken object his son brought back from outside has already been examined by countless Perfected cultivators, and all of them said it was an ordinary mortal item. Yet he insists it is a treasure left behind by an ascended senior. He actually ran up to Perfected Hu earlier and embarrassed himself. Of course he was thrown out!”
“Exactly! Even Perfected Puping from Hele Workshop said it was nothing but a pile of scrap metal!”
After roughly understanding what had happened from the crowd’s conversation, Cheng Suxi had no desire to meddle.
She was about to walk around the old man when the little ball that had been sitting obediently in her hand suddenly glided through the air in a graceful arc and landed on the bundle in his arms.
“Chirp, chirp, chirp!”
The little creature raised one claw and tugged forcefully at the cloth wrapping the bundle, looking as though she had discovered a treasure and was proudly showing it off.
Cheng Suxi found the sight both amusing and infuriating.
“Tuanzi, stop making trouble!”
Cheng Suxi bent down and reached out to catch her, but Hua Ling nimbly dodged.
“Chirp, chirp, chirp!”
Buy it! Buy it! Buy it!
Afraid that her caretaker would fail to understand, Hua Ling spread her wings over the bundle, resembling a mother hen protecting her chicks.
Cheng Suxi looked at the cloth, which was so filthy that its original color could no longer be seen, and then at the divine beast stubbornly refusing to leave it.
She drew in a deep breath and repeated inwardly:
I raised her myself. I raised her myself. I raised her myself…
Seeing her caretaker’s expression gradually become dangerous, Hua Ling felt a chill run down her back.
Her body suddenly rose uncontrollably into the air.
When she opened her eyes again, her entire body was being held in her caretaker’s hand, leaving only her two tiny claws kicking helplessly in the air.
“Chirp!”
Hua Ling strained her neck toward the bundle.
Cheng Suxi fell silent.
This was the first time she had seen the little divine beast insist so strongly on something.
Left with no other choice, Cheng Suxi could only negotiate with the old man.
He was merely an ordinary mortal. After receiving several heavy kicks from the waiter, he had already fainted from the pain.
Everyone nearby watched coldly, and not a single person dared step forward.
However, Hua Ling’s commotion prevented them from leaving. Instead, they remained to continue watching the excitement.
“What kind of bird is that? It looks a little like a sparrow.”
“Do not speak recklessly! That young master clearly has an extraordinary bearing and might be a Perfected cultivator. Could a bird raised by someone like that possibly be an ordinary sparrow? It must be a spiritual beast at the very least!”
“Can spiritual beasts really be that small?”
“Why not? Some people even raise bees and ants! Besides, look at that bird. Although it is tiny, it is lively, clever, and understands human nature. One glance is enough to know it is extraordinary!”
Hearing someone praise her, Hua Ling puffed out her chest.
“Chirp!”
She was not a spiritual beast.
She was a divine beast!
Author’s Note
Cheng Suxi: I hatched the little thing myself. What else can I do except spoil her?
