After Seeing Through the Plot, the Cannon Fodder Supporting Female Lead Overturned Her Fate - Chapter 17
“To my love.”
Just a few short words, yet read by Xia Yihuan with a voice both sincere and melodic.
She was naturally stunning, her beautiful face resembling a piece of art meticulously sculpted by God, the kind of beauty that left a lasting impression after just one glance. But what was even more unforgettable were her eyes.
They were beautiful; when she stared at you quietly, it felt as though an endless stream of ambiguity and deep affection was flowing within them.
Ye An looked up into Xia Yihuan’s gaze and, for some reason, felt her heart skip a beat for a few seconds.
“It seems this little bear might be something very important to the owner.” After a long moment, Ye An let out a light cough and withdrew her gaze. It wasn’t a good thing to have a racing heart in front of a rival; it seemed she had swum for too long, and it was high time to take a break.
Xia Yihuan smiled in response. “It looks that way.”
“Are you tired, President Ye?” Noticing her intention to get out of the pool, Xia Yihuan gently extended a hand toward her. “Why don’t we go ashore and rest for a while? I happened to buy some fruit and drinks.”
“Sure.” Ye An nodded, lightly taking the hand offered to her.
The lost and found desk wasn’t far from the pool.
Once ashore, Ye An didn’t rush to sit down. Instead, she went with Xia Yihuan to hand the bear over to the staff member inside. The pool had a high volume of guests, so losing items was a common occurrence. The staff member quickly broadcasted a notification, repeating the description of the bear several times.
“To my love, to my love.” The originally sweet words were broadcasted back and forth over the loudspeaker, which somehow made one want to chuckle.
Ye An smiled and sat down in a nearby pavilion.
Xia Yihuan seemed to understand her preferences very well; the fruit and drinks she bought were all things Ye An liked. Ye An glanced at the time and realized she had been swimming for about an hour and a half.
It was indeed time to replenish some energy.
“Any plans for later?” she asked, casually popping a cherry into her mouth. The fresh cherry was juicy, sweet, and tart—very palatable. “How about we go to a nearby restaurant for a meal together?”
“Sure,” Xia Yihuan replied. “What kind of flavors are you in the mood for, President Ye? I’ll make a reservation now.”
“Anything is fine,” Ye An said. She looked up and saw a young couple hurrying toward the lost and found desk not far away. They looked young, perhaps college students who had just started their first year.
“Hello, is there a small blue bear in a dress here?” Because they weren’t far away, fragments of their conversation drifted over.
“Yes.” The staff member nodded. Seeing the girl’s anxious expression, they quickly brought the bear out. “Is this yours?”
“Yes, yes, that’s it!” The girl nodded, overjoyed, her tension finally easing. “Thank you so much.”
“You really love this bear, don’t you?” The boy also seemed relieved, reaching out to pat the girl’s head. “Good thing we found it.”
“But even if we hadn’t, it wouldn’t have mattered. I would have just bought you another one.”
“That’s not the same!” the girl shook her head. She sounded like she was complaining, but her tone was filled with an irrepressible sweetness. “This is what you gave me on our first date. It has sentimental value, don’t you understand?”
“I understand,” the boy nodded quickly. “I was actually afraid you wouldn’t like it back then.”
“How could I?” The girl smiled, clutching the recovered bear tightly in her palm. The two walked away hand-in-hand along the beach. “As long as it’s a gift from my lover, anything is the best.”
As long as it’s a gift from my lover, anything is the best.
Ye An couldn’t help but smile at those words. For so many years, she hadn’t even had family, let alone a lover. Having been alone for so long, she couldn’t help but feel touched when seeing a scene like this.
Actually, having someone to accompany you was quite nice.
“Is Thai food okay?” After a moment, Xia Yihuan’s voice suddenly sounded in her ear. “I found a Southeast Asian themed restaurant nearby. The environment and food seem quite good.”
Ye An snapped out of her thoughts. “Mhm, that’s fine.”
Xia Yihuan smiled. “Then I’ll make the reservation.”
“The flavors aren’t too heavy, are they?” Ye An asked.
“I checked the reviews; they’re just right.” Xia Yihuan nodded. After the reservation was confirmed, she set her phone aside. Then, she quickly picked up a lychee and carefully peeled it. “It’s quite sweet. Want to try it, President Ye?”
Ye An did indeed want to eat some lychee.
This person always seemed to be able to read her mind, managing to take care of her every need. Ye An reached out to take it, and for some reason, her previously gloomy mood suddenly improved quite a bit.
She realized belatedly that she wasn’t actually without company.
Even if that person was Xia Yihuan, someone she usually couldn’t stand.
Just as Xia Yihuan had said, the lychee was indeed very sweet. Ye An chewed it slowly, the corners of her lips unconsciously curving upward.
Actually, this was quite alright.
They arrived at the restaurant right at noon.
The decor was very immersive, with many plants and trees in the lobby, a mural of blue sky and white clouds, and golden statues scattered about. The seating consisted mostly of comfortable sofas and rattan chairs, with a stream flowing slowly beneath their feet.
Such a scene naturally made one feel leisurely and relaxed.
By now, many customers had gathered. The two sat down at their table, and a waiter brought over two fruit drinks and the menus.
Ye An had eaten breakfast, so she wasn’t that hungry. She scanned the menu and only ordered a salad for herself, then left the rest of the choices to the person across from her.
Xia Yihuan didn’t decline; she decisively ordered several items and handed the menu back to the waiting waiter.
Ye An suddenly felt a bit sleepy. “Let’s head home right after lunch.”
She stared at the large screen not far away, watching a loop of Thailand’s scenery and local customs. “You should go back and get some rest, too, Yihuan.”
Xia Yihuan nodded. “Okay.”
“This restaurant is quite crowded.” Ye An smiled, lazily propping her chin on her hand. “It seems the food is indeed…”
Before she could finish, the content on the large screen suddenly changed. The magnificent Grand Palace faded away, replaced by a sweet and warm lifestyle photo.
Then more photos followed, one after another, in different seasons and settings, but the subjects were always a man and a woman.
One of them was the girl who had just taken their order.
“What a coincidence,” Ye An quickly realized. “We caught a proposal.”
Xia Yihuan smiled. “How did you know, President Ye?”
“I saw it.” Ye An stirred the juice in front of her, gesturing with her chin toward Xia Yihuan. “Look at that boy standing below the stage.”
“He’s been standing there since the photos started switching,” Ye An said. “He’s holding a small ring box, nervously whispering something to himself.”
Xia Yihuan followed her gaze. “You’re right.”
Ye An blinked, sincerely sighing, “How happy.”
With that, the photo slideshow ended. In an instant, the lighting changed, and the boy walked up with a serious expression to speak into the microphone.
Ye An listened quietly and discovered that he was the owner of this Thai restaurant. He and the girl in the photos were old acquaintances from a long time ago. They had started the business together three years ago. Back then, there weren’t many customers and business was slow, but fortunately, they supported each other and worked hard, finally achieving success after a long night.
Human empathy is a powerful thing; even listening to the story of strangers and watching their happy lives, one can be deeply moved.
The boy shared a few more memorable stories until the heroine below the stage could no longer hold back her tears and ran up to embrace him.
At that moment, thunderous applause rang out, and several customers were so moved by their happiness that they also quietly shed tears.
It made Ye An a bit emotional, too, and she reached up to gently rub her eyes.
Just as she lowered her hand, a tissue appeared in her field of vision.
“What are you doing?” Ye An felt a bit embarrassed. “I’m not crying.”
“Mhm.” Xia Yihuan nodded, slowly wiping the corners of Ye An’s eyes with the tissue. “It’s just that your eye makeup is a bit smudged.”
“…” Ye An sighed. After a moment, the corners of her lips curled up helplessly as she teased, “Can you be any more thoughtful?”
“Like what?” Xia Yihuan’s lips also curved into a smile, just like hers.
Ye An crossed her arms and looked at her. “I should be asking you that.”
Xia Yihuan immediately followed up: “How about a hug?”
Her tone was full of mirth, the perfect response to Ye An’s teasing.
Ye An froze. Her previous emotion vanished instantly, and she even felt like hitting her twice. “In your dreams.”
She pretended to be angry, but the laughter still couldn’t be hidden from her eyes. She looked up at the person in front of her and jokingly scolded, “Get lost.”
