After Seeing Through the Plot, the Cannon Fodder Supporting Female Lead Overturned Her Fate - Chapter 31
The rain fell for a good while before finally coming to a stop.
As the dark clouds dispersed, the surroundings brightened once again. The sky was a brilliant, washed blue, and the flowers and grass were covered in crystal-clear water droplets.
“Alright, the weather has cleared up.” Ye An looked into the distance, seemingly spotting Liu Yue and the others. She stood up and quickly slipped out from under the thin blanket. “Let’s pack up and get ready to head out.”
“Okay,” Xia Yihuan answered softly.
Soon, the five gathered once more.
The mountaintop was still about a third of the way away. Having had a brief rest, their physical fatigue had eased significantly. The group’s pace up the mountain was noticeably faster than before, and they finally reached the summit at noon.
The summit featured several restaurants and hot springs, as well as small shops specifically selling local specialties.
After hiking all morning, Liu Yue was so hungry her stomach was touching her back. She didn’t have time to admire the scenery or take photos, quickly ushering everyone to go eat first.
“I pre-booked a place,” she said. “This establishment has facilities like hot spring courts inside. We can rest and play right there after we eat.”
“Sounds good,” Ye An smiled. Soaking in a hot spring at the top of a mountain was indeed relaxing.
“I won’t be soaking,” Xia Yihuan smiled. “It’s not very convenient.”
Ye An knew she was referring to the injury on her back.
“Then just wait for us in the lounge outside,” Ye An said. “We’ll be out in a bit.”
Xia Yihuan had no objections: “Okay.”
While they were talking, Liu Yue had already rushed ahead to order. The ingredients at this restaurant were quite fresh; besides local mountain specialties, there were many large, delicious seafood dishes. It brought a sense of satisfaction along with a full stomach.
Everyone ate happily, and with the chatting and laughing, time flew by.
After the meal, the group moved to the hot springs.
Xia Yihuan’s wounds hadn’t fully healed and weren’t supposed to touch water. Fortunately, the lounge area had plenty of facilities: massage chairs, VR, and a chess room.
“You guys go in first.” Ye An felt a bit uneasy, fearing Xia Yihuan would just sit there waiting blankly with her usual lack of desires. She asked, “Do you know how to play chess?”
“A little,” Xia Yihuan said.
Ye An waved her over: “Come here, I’ll scan a code for you so you can play against the machine.”
“You don’t need to worry about me, President Ye.” Xia Yihuan quickly understood her intention and sat down in the designated spot, looking up at her. “I’m not a child; I’ll be fine on my own.”
“Just consider it my own peace of mind.” Ye An arched an eyebrow. The temperature in the lounge was high, causing a faint flush to rise on her cheeks. Ye An looked down at the person before her and teasingly flicked her chin. “Hiking is exhausting enough as it is. If I accidentally lose my assistant on top of that, it would be quite a loss.”
Lately, the relationship between the two had become much closer. This gesture from Ye An was completely spontaneous; she didn’t even realize anything was inappropriate.
Xia Yihuan paused, looking down at Ye An’s fingertips. After a moment, the corners of her lips slowly turned upward. “Alright then.”
She smiled, her voice gentle: “I hope you have a great time, President Ye.”
“You too.” With that, Ye An turned to leave.
After settling Xia Yihuan, Ye An quickly headed to the changing room.
Liu Yue and the others had been inside for a while. Ye An assumed they would have already started enjoying themselves, but she unexpectedly bumped into someone in the changing room.
It was Ji Chu.
She currently had her back to Ye An, seemingly on a phone call. Because she was so engrossed in the conversation, she didn’t notice Ye An’s arrival.
The somewhat narrow space couldn’t hide many secrets. Soon, Ye An heard Ji Chu’s voice: “What? It’s still not settled?”
“What are you all even good for?!” Ji Chu laughed out of sheer anger, her tone completely devoid of her usual cuteness and softness; instead, she was enveloped in an aura of hostility. “Fine, I’m in no rush. There are still three days anyway.”
“If you still can’t get it done, you’re all fired!”
The cold tone made even Ye An instinctively freeze.
As if she didn’t want to talk further, Ji Chu finally put away her phone. She sighed and habitually turned around, only to discover someone behind her.
The atmosphere was quiet for a few seconds. A moment later, Ji Chu smiled warmly: “Oh, President Ye.”
“Ah, what a coincidence.” Ye An paused for a few seconds, her lips curving slightly. “Why haven’t you gone in yet?”
“A friend happened to call, and I was joking around with her for a bit,” Ji Chu said, her expression as gentle and pure as always. “I accidentally lost track of time.”
“Xiao Wen and the others must be getting impatient waiting.” She looked at Ye An’s face and asked tentatively in a small voice, “Um, shall we go in together?”
“Sure,” Ye An responded. Ji Chu’s speed at changing faces was so fast it made her a bit uncomfortable, but she didn’t say anything and walked in with her.
The moment they entered the water and saw Sheng Shiwen, Ji Chu instantly broke into a wide smile.
“Xiao Wen~” she said, her eyes and brows full of sweetness. “This is my first time in a hot spring. It feels so magical.”
“Then I’ll bring you again in the future,” Sheng Shiwen said, a smile quickly appearing on her lips. “What took you so long to come in? Did something happen?”
“Nothing,” Ji Chu shook her head. She looked back toward Ye An. “I just made a quick call, and then happened to run into President Ye and chatted for a bit.”
“Right,” Ye An nodded.
Hearing the confirmation, the smile in Ji Chu’s eyes deepened slightly. She whispered a “thank you,” then quickly turned back to continue being affectionate with Sheng Shiwen.
They were so close it even made Liu Yue envious: “Sigh, I think Xiao Wen is not far from being off the market.”
“I used to think Xiao Wen would be the last of the three of us to find someone,” Liu Yue sighed, resting the back of her head leisurely on her arms and murmuring softly.
Ye An couldn’t help but be curious: “Why do you say that?”
“Did you forget the past?” Liu Yue said. “Xiao Wen is famous for having high standards. So many people confessed to her, and she didn’t like any of them. I thought she’d stay single her whole life, but who knew she’d be won over by Ji Chu.”
“What do you call this?” Liu Yue organized her thoughts. “Fate?”
Fate. Ye An liked that word.
She smiled and looked back toward Sheng Shiwen and the other girl. They were in perfect harmony and sweetness—truly an enviable, natural pair.
Even though Ji Chu didn’t seem to be quite the person she portrayed herself as, Ye An could tell that she genuinely loved the person in front of her.
However, as a friend, while she supported them, she shouldn’t hide things. Ye An paused, deciding to find an opportunity to drop a subtle hint to Sheng Shiwen another day.
“An’an,” at some point, Liu Yue brought the topic back to her. “When do you think you’ll meet your fated person?”
“How would I know? I’ll leave it to chance.” Ye An smiled. While she said “chance” out loud, she already had an answer in her heart. Love was something she was destined not to have, so she no longer sought it.
“Sigh, you have high standards too.” Liu Yue sighed, then added after a few seconds of silence, “Actually, to tell the truth, Xia Yihuan is quite good.”
“If she wasn’t your rival, I’d actually want to play matchmaker for you two. You’re both so beautiful and capable, and you used to work in the same field—you’d be a perfect match.”
“Alright,” Ye An couldn’t help but laugh. “Stop trying to force a match.”
“I’m just saying~” Liu Yue winked at her.
While they were talking, a waiter brought over some drinks. Liu Yue stopped talking and focused on her drink.
Ye An wasn’t very thirsty and simply leaned against the edge of the pool to rest with her eyes closed.
The spring water was warm and soft, very comfortable against her body. Ye An closed her eyes, and she should have felt peaceful, but for some reason, Liu Yue’s words came back to her again.
Being with Xia Yihuan.
Ye An paused, finding the idea truly hilarious. But perhaps because Liu Yue had sounded so sincere, in the next second, Ye An actually imagined that scene.
It might actually be described as happy.
In the morning, Xia Yihuan would make breakfast for her and listen to her arrangements for the day. Since they both worked in the same field, they would have much to talk about; perhaps some difficult problems would be solved quickly with her suggestions.
Then they would head out together, Xia Yihuan driving her to work and picking her up on time in the evening. They had similar tastes in food; if they were tired, they’d grab something nearby, and if not, they’d go to the supermarket for ingredients and cook dinner together.
Even on weekends spent at home, there would be many plans: they could go to the gym, swim, play sports, or watch movies together…
This was likely the life Ye An longed for most in her heart.
At this thought, Ye An unconsciously curled her lips, but she quickly snapped back to reality. Not only did she only have three years to live, but even if she had a choice, that person certainly couldn’t be Xia Yihuan.
Everything just now was nothing but nonsense.
The group soaked for a long time, but Ye An was the first one to come out.
Having not been in a hot spring for a long time, she eventually felt dizzy and weak in her limbs. Ye An shook her head, went to the changing room, and put on a yukata. Before she had walked far, she came face-to-face with Xia Yihuan.
Xia Yihuan reached out to support her: “How are you feeling, President Ye?”
“Alright,” Ye An said. “I just soaked for a bit too long.”
“Come sit here,” Xia Yihuan said, leading her to a rattan chair. Ye An wasn’t feeling great and didn’t pay much attention to Xia Yihuan’s movements. After closing her eyes to rest for a bit, she suddenly felt something small and cold being brought to her lips.
Ye An opened her eyes: “A strawberry?”
“Yes,” Xia Yihuan nodded. “It’s chilled; it should make you feel better.”
“That’s very thoughtful of you, Yihuan,” Ye An said, struggling to lift her hand. “I’ll eat it myself.”
“It’s fine, I’ll feed you.” Xia Yihuan smiled. “If you’re not feeling well, don’t force yourself.”
She was always able to take care of her in every way.
Ye An pursed her lips, met her gaze for a few seconds, and eventually lay back down. She really didn’t want to move right now and simply let Xia Yihuan have her way: “Alright then.”
“You’re being a bit too diligent as an assistant,” Ye An sighed, murmuring softly.
“What if one day I can’t do without you?”
