After Seeing Through the Plot, the Cannon Fodder Supporting Female Lead Overturned Her Fate - Chapter 32
“What if one day I can’t do without you?”
The words were spoken very softly, yet they carried an inexplicable air of ambiguity. Ye An spoke without much thought, but she didn’t expect Xia Yihuan to take her seriously.
After a long pause, Xia Yihuan parted her lips and whispered a few words: “It’s alright. I think you will definitely meet someone better than me in the future, President Ye.”
As soon as she finished speaking, Ye An glanced sideways at Xia Yihuan’s face.
“Is that so?” She nodded gently, her gaze sweeping over Xia Yihuan’s eyes. She deliberately raised her voice and teased, “From the sound of it, you’ve already set your heart on leaving.”
“How could I?” Xia Yihuan shook her head in response and smiled. “I will always stay with you, President Ye.”
At least for the duration of the three years we once agreed upon.
“…”
More than half an hour later, Liu Yue and the others finally emerged.
“That soak was truly refreshing.” Seeing Ye An waiting in the lounge, Liu Yue stretched and hurried over. “Hey, An’an, do you have plans for tomorrow?”
“I have some things to do,” Ye An said. “Why?”
“Nothing, just asking.” Liu Yue grinned. “It’s a wonderful weekend; we should spend more time out on the town.”
“Let’s go play ball together tomorrow, then watch a show, and have dinner at that Japanese restaurant you like so much,” she suggested. “It’s rare that we have time to get together.”
The proposal was indeed tempting.
But remembering her plans for tomorrow, Ye An still shook her head.
The reason was simple: tomorrow was the day Teacher Yang would move back to her old home.
Since meeting Teacher Yang that day and learning her story, Ye An couldn’t quite put her mind at ease. Furthermore, since she was Xia Yihuan’s mentor, it was only right—both rationally and emotionally—that she provide some help.
The long-standing bickering between the developers and the property management had finally ended, with the management deciding to pay for a construction team to perform repairs. It so happened that the foreman was an old acquaintance of Ye An’s, so she added some money of her own, asking them to tidy up Teacher Yang’s room without changing the overall layout.
This included repainting the walls, replacing the old doors and windows with soundproof ones, and swapping out the dilapidated pipes and radiators…
Teacher Yang was deeply moved and grateful, hardly knowing what to say. She immediately stated she would pay back the money as soon as possible.
At that, Ye An shook her head: “Yihuan and I are close; her mentor is naturally mine as well. As a junior, this is only to be expected.”
“Furthermore, Teacher Yang once said I could visit your home whenever I had the chance. I’ve kept those words in my heart. Since I’ll likely be bothering you in the future, consider this an advance payment for my meals.”
One way or another, Xia Yihuan owed her another favor.
It would be truly unreasonable if she didn’t feed her another strawberry after this.
Thinking of this, Ye An smiled and was about to speak, but before she could, she saw Xia Yihuan actually bringing another strawberry to her lips.
The two of them always shared a strange, subtle chemistry in moments like these.
Ye An glanced at her sideways and leaned down to eat it.
Time flew by, and soon it was the next day.
Due to the busy workload lately, Ye An had been neglecting exercise. When she woke up, her legs actually ached a bit, making walking quite uncomfortable.
In contrast, Xia Yihuan acted as if nothing was wrong.
“Don’t your legs hurt?” After breakfast, while Xia Yihuan was clearing the dishes, Ye An asked casually.
“It’s okay,” Xia Yihuan said. “I’ve been running every day lately.”
“No wonder.” Ye An nodded. People with free time were truly enviable.
“If you’re willing, President Ye, how about we go together in the mornings from now on?” Xia Yihuan sat down beside her and poured her a cup of tea.
“We’ll see,” Ye An blinked. “There’s been a lot going on lately.”
“Mhm.” Xia Yihuan nodded and said nothing more. Instead, she suddenly reached out and gently placed her hand on Ye An’s calf.
Startled, Ye An reflexively pulled back. “What are you doing?”
Xia Yihuan laughed. “Giving you a massage, President Ye.”
The service was certainly thorough.
Ye An paused, then crossed her arms and looked at her, teasing, “If you keep this up, I’ll start feeling guilty. It’ll seem wrong if I don’t give you a raise.”
“You already give me more than enough,” Xia Yihuan said. She specifically warmed her hands and began to knead along the lines of the muscles.
It was indeed very comfortable.
Xia Yihuan’s warmth transferred over bit by bit, and her perfectly measured pressure effectively relieved the muscle soreness. Seeing her insistence, Ye An didn’t refuse further and simply relaxed to enjoy the massage.
Time passed quickly, and half an hour later, Xia Yihuan finished.
Ye An stretched slowly; the discomfort in her body had indeed significantly eased. This put her in an excellent mood. She reached out and flicked Xia Yihuan’s chin. “Let’s go. Time to help Teacher Yang move.”
Xia Yihuan nodded. “Okay.”
The two got ready and soon drove to Teacher Yang’s temporary residence.
Teacher Yang didn’t have many things, so there was no need for a moving company; a private car was more than enough. As soon as she got in, Teacher Yang expressed her gratitude for the repairs once again.
“It’s no problem, we’re all on the same side.” Ye An instinctively glanced at Xia Yihuan, her lips curving slightly. “Don’t mention it, Teacher Yang.”
Xia Yihuan met her gaze, her eyes full of curiosity. “President Ye, you and she…”
“Focus on driving,” Ye An was too lazy to explain. “You’ll know when we get there.”
Before Xia Yihuan could say anything else, Ye An turned back to chat with Teacher Yang, a kind smile always on her face.
“Actually, Ye An is a really good person,” 023 suddenly piped up.
At that, Xia Yihuan uncharacteristically agreed: “Mhm.”
Since no one had lived there for a while, the house was quite dusty. Combined with the mess left from the construction, it actually took the group a whole day to clean up.
Teacher Yang knew how busy Ye An usually was. It was rare for her to have a day off, yet instead of resting, she had come to help. Feeling uneasy about it, Teacher Yang went downstairs to buy ingredients, insisting that Ye An stay for dinner.
Seeing her insistence, Ye An didn’t refuse. Furthermore, Teacher Yang’s cooking was truly delicious; having not tasted it for a while, she actually missed it.
“You really are lucky,” Ye An couldn’t help but sigh while waiting.
“Why do you say that, President Ye?” Xia Yihuan looked over.
“Nothing, just a reflection.” Ye An smiled. Her own family background was no secret. As time passed, she could now disclose those old scars to others with poise. “A privileged background, a harmonious atmosphere, good mentors, and helpful friends… you really have lived a very happy life.”
“It really makes one a bit envious,” she said, picking up the tea on the table for a small sip.
She spoke casually, as if just making idle conversation, not really expecting a response. However, the moment she finished, Xia Yihuan’s expression became much more serious.
“You will definitely be even happier than me in the future, President Ye,” she said suddenly.
Ye An felt like laughing at that, thinking it was nonsense; she knew her own fate well enough.
But seeing Xia Yihuan’s sincere gaze, she found it hard to argue. She could only nod along with her words. “Mhm, perhaps.”
“It’s not ‘perhaps’,” Xia Yihuan actually corrected her. Her lips curved slightly, and there was a beautiful light in her eyes. “It’s ‘certainly’.”
“Alright, alright.” Ye An couldn’t help but laugh. “Certainly, certainly.”
“In that case, if you aren’t doing well for yourself in the future, come find me,” she said. “I’ll still treat you with the same benefits you have now, how about that?”
At those words, Xia Yihuan actually hesitated.
“What’s wrong?” Ye An gently kicked her with her foot. “Scared I’ll change my mind? I, Ye An, always keep my word.”
Xia Yihuan finally laughed again. “Okay, it’s a deal then.”
“…”
Dinner was ready soon: four dishes and a soup. They were all common home-cooked dishes, but they tasted wonderful—so much so that Ye An felt a twinge of guilt, fearing her weight might go up by morning.
“The house is a mess, so I won’t keep you,” Teacher Yang said after dinner. The sky was getting dark, and she was afraid it wouldn’t be safe for them to return too late. “Come visit whenever you have time, President Ye.”
“Of course, I will.” Ye An smiled and bid Teacher Yang farewell, taking the elevator down with Xia Yihuan.
After hiking all day yesterday and being busy all day today, she was indeed exhausted. Ye An was out of sorts and yawned several times while waiting for the elevator.
This area was part of the old town; the space was too tight for easy parking, so they had parked the car a hundred meters away. At the time it didn’t seem far, but now she inexplicably felt like she couldn’t take another step.
“Wait here for a moment, President Ye.” Xia Yihuan saw her exhaustion and suggested, “I’ll drive the car over here.”
Ye An didn’t refuse. “Then I’ll trouble you.”
“Mhm.” Xia Yihuan nodded and turned to leave.
Ye An watched her back for a few moments, then looked down to play with her phone out of boredom.
Earlier that morning, Liu Yue had sent over the photos from yesterday’s trip. Ye An had been too busy to look at them then, but now she browsed through them. It had to be said that Liu Yue’s photography skills were excellent; the choice of scenery and composition in every photo was beautiful.
The people looked great, too—and the most prominent among them was Xia Yihuan.
She really is photogenic.
Ye An’s lips curved slightly. Her fingertip lingered on Xia Yihuan’s photo without swiping away. While she was staring intently, a text message suddenly popped up.
It was from an unknown number Ye An had never seen before, yet the content carried a strange sense of familiarity—especially the signature at the end.
[An’an, I’m back. Do you have time to meet? — Chi Yan.]
Despite being just a few short words, they caused Ye An to freeze in place instinctively.
