After She Fell for Me, I Lost My Memory (GL) - Chapter 37
The two went to a Western restaurant near West Street.
While Zhao Zhao was ordering, Cen Luo sat at the table and looked around, then sighed:
“West Street has changed so much.”
“It has changed quite a lot,” Zhao Zhao finished ordering and handed the menu to Cen Luo. “Big sister, do you want to order anything else?”
Zhao Zhao had been to this area of West Street before. This Western restaurant was also recommended to her by a friend, so Zhao Zhao was more familiar with the area than the current Cen Luo.
So, while Cen Luo was looking down at the menu, Zhao Zhao chatted with her:
“Yuncheng has been developing westward over the years. West Street has been well-developed, and this area is much more prosperous than it was ten years ago.”
Cen Luo nodded, handed the menu to the server next to her, then said to Zhao Zhao in a joking tone:
“If I had known this, I should have bought two apartments in West Street earlier.”
Zhao Zhao smiled when she heard that. “You reminded me. I should be the one buying a house in West Street. Big sister, which apartment do you live in? How about I buy one near you?”
Every time Zhao Zhao brought Cen Luo back, she only dropped her off at West Street and didn’t drive her down to the apartment building, so she didn’t know exactly which building Cen Luo lived in.
Nearby?
Cen Luo thought for a moment. It would actually be nice to have a friend living nearby. She replied:
“West Street Happiness Apartment.”
Zhao Zhao nodded when she heard that. She smiled at Cen Luo, looking quite happy: “I like that name.”
If she likes the complex’s name, then fine, but why is she looking at me like that?
So strange.
Just then, Cen Luo suddenly felt their table being bumped. The menu on the table suddenly fluttered to the ground, and the glass of orange juice wobbled, spilling a few drops on the table.
Cen Luo instinctively reached for a napkin to wipe the table, and heard a man’s voice next to her: “I’m so sorry, I’m so sorry.”
He also picked up the fallen menu and put it back on the table.
There weren’t many people in the Western restaurant, and the distance between the tables was quite large. Bumping into them like this was “quite an achievement.”
But Cen Luo didn’t want to dwell on it and just replied, “It’s fine.”
After the person left, Cen Luo looked back at Zhao Zhao, but saw that she was slightly turning her face away, seemingly avoiding being seen.
Cen Luo then remembered that Zhao Zhao was a celebrity. It would indeed be bad for her to be seen like this.
Thinking of this, Cen Luo looked around the restaurant. There were only a few scattered people.
Two people were sitting not far to their right. One of the men slightly lowered his head and smiled at her, his expression looking like he was apologizing.
He must be the one who bumped into their table just now.
Cen Luo looked away. Remembering that she didn’t know Zhao Zhao very well, she asked:
“Zhao Zhao, are you from Yuncheng?”
“No, I’m from Miancheng.”
“Wow, Miancheng.”
Cen Luo blinked. She felt a natural affinity for Miancheng. If she had known Zhao Zhao was from Miancheng, she would have chatted with her more when she was hospitalized a few days ago.
Seeing Cen Luo’s expression, Zhao Zhao’s smile deepened a little. She said, “Has big sister still not remembered me?”
“Hmm?” Cen Luo was confused. She had amnesia. How could she remember?
“I’ve called you ‘big sister’ countless times since I met you again.”
Before Cen Luo could ask, she heard the next sentence that stunned her:
“So, big sister, when are you planning to marry me?”
As soon as the words left her mouth, the scene from back then flashed in Cen Luo’s mind.
It was something that happened ten years ago, but to her, it was only half a month ago.
“You’re that child?”
“Mhm.”
Zhao Zhao’s smile on her face didn’t fade. Cen Luo was the only one who was embarrassed.
Under Zhao Zhao’s gaze, Cen Luo turned her face and covered it with her hand.
She didn’t know! No one told her about this!
No wonder she kept thinking why Zhao Zhao loved calling her “big sister.”
The joy she felt from being from the same hometown, Miancheng, was instantly drowned out by embarrassment.
That malnourished child suddenly transformed into a big star.
This fact, for Cen Luo, had only been half a month ago.
At the time, she just dismissed it as child’s talk. But now, this child had actually come looking for her.
But, she thinks she rejected her back then?
Thinking of this, the embarrassment in Cen Luo’s heart dissipated a little. She turned to Zhao Zhao and smiled: “Why are you joking about something someone didn’t agree to?”
Zhao Zhao didn’t speak, but the smile on her lips didn’t diminish at all. It was as if she was enjoying Cen Luo’s expression.
After a while, Zhao Zhao picked up the orange juice on the table and took a sip. She said softly:
“It’s okay, big sister. I have a lot of time. I can wait in line slowly.”
Zhao Zhao’s smile faded, and her expression became serious.
Cen Luo suddenly couldn’t think of anything to say to her.
To be honest, Zhao Zhao was truly beautiful, much more beautiful than she appeared on TV.
But since she woke up, she hadn’t developed any other feelings while interacting with Zhao Zhao in the hospital. In fact, because of their recent closeness, she felt that Zhao Zhao resembled Cen Xi a little. Sometimes, she would be momentarily lost, thinking that if Cen Xi were still around, she would be about the same age as Zhao Zhao.
It was only after Zhao Zhao’s reminder today that Cen Luo understood where that feeling came from.
Thirteen-year-old Zhao Zhao was sometimes arrogant and sometimes said things she didn’t mean. She would reject her help, but then anxiously ask her where she was going when she left, even following her as if afraid she would suddenly leave.
Just like her younger sister, she would say she hated her but often followed her around.
Cen Luo was still immersed in her thoughts when she suddenly heard Zhao Zhao’s slightly lowered voice:
“Big sister, look down.”
Cen Luo instinctively hummed in confusion. Before she could react, she smelled a clear gardenia scent.
Zhao Zhao suddenly got up and stood next to her, blocking her view to the right. She leaned down and whispered in Cen Luo’s ear:
“Someone on the right is secretly taking pictures.”
Cen Luo turned her face and saw that Zhao Zhao was already wearing a mask and a hat, completely covering her face.
Cen Luo had thought about it earlier when someone bumped into their table. As a currently popular celebrity, Zhao Zhao’s outings would definitely attract attention.
In fact, Zhao Zhao had already been in the news a lot lately because of her visits to Cen Luo. However, most of the news was about her being sick or something similar. She wasn’t photographed interacting with Cen Luo in the ward.
So some paparazzi only guessed that Zhao Zhao was sick, which was why she was often at the hospital.
But now was different. Being photographed in a restaurant would likely lead to dating rumors, which would not be good for Zhao Zhao.
Wait a minute. Celebrities also have the right to dine with friends.
“Is being a celebrity so strict? You can’t even have dinner with friends?”
Hearing Cen Luo’s words, Zhao Zhao let out a soft laugh: “You can certainly have dinner with friends, but not with you.”
Cen Luo frowned: “Why?”
Zhao Zhao: “I have ulterior motives.”
Cen Luo: “…”
Zhao Zhao wasn’t afraid of rumors. It didn’t matter to her what the media wrote about her, but Cen Luo was different.
Cen Luo was just an ordinary person.
When ordinary people were involved in celebrity rumors, the ones who were hurt more were the ordinary people. Celebrities had public relations and a team, but ordinary people didn’t.
Whether they were friends or not, once it was exposed by the media, there would only be one outcome.
This was the first time Zhao Zhao felt powerless about her identity.
“Then let’s go out first.”
Cen Luo thought for a moment and quickly realized that the person who bumped into their table earlier was definitely not a coincidence.
Vicious modern people.
Cen Luo was wearing a hoodie today. After saying that, she put on her hood, stood up, and pulled Zhao Zhao by the wrist toward the exit.
When they got to the cashier, Cen Luo let go of Zhao Zhao’s wrist and patted Zhao Zhao’s arm with great loyalty:
“You go wait for me in the car. I’ll pay and be right there.”
Zhao Zhao subconsciously nodded.
But after walking out the door, she came back to her senses and touched her wrist.
She felt a very subtle sensation.
But in a little while, Zhao Zhao realized that in Cen Luo’s perception, holding wrists was probably a very normal behavior between friends.
It was only her own joy.
The two had ordered food but hadn’t touched a single bite. It was noon now, and Cen Luo was a little hungry.
She wondered if there was any secretive place nearby.
“How about we…”
Before Zhao Zhao could finish her sentence, she heard Cen Luo’s voice:
“How about we meet up another time?”
Zhao Zhao was probably going to say the same thing, Cen Luo thought.
“I really don’t know how to cook. If I did, I would have invited you to my place,” Cen Luo sighed, then said, “Xiao Ran told me that my cooking skills were pretty good before I lost my memory. What a pity.”
Actually, it’s okay if you don’t cook. I just want to spend some time with you.
Zhao Zhao didn’t say these words because she saw two men with cameras looking around in the rearview mirror.
They seemed a little frustrated because they couldn’t find anyone and started swearing at each other.
Thinking about the risk of being followed by the two, Zhao Zhao’s gaze turned cold. She said to Cen Luo gently: “I’m sorry, big sister. I wasted your time.”
Cen Luo shook her head: “It’s fine. You’re a celebrity, after all. There are many things you can’t control. I understand.”
“Then let me take big sister home first? To West Street Happiness Complex?”
“Mhm, mhm.”
Cen Luo thought there was a noodle shop downstairs. She could go try it.
“Which floor?”
“Thirteenth floor,” Cen Luo answered without thinking, thinking about what to eat.
Then she realized, was Zhao Zhao planning to take her all the way upstairs?
However, Zhao Zhao didn’t say anything else. She glanced in the rearview mirror and started the car.
A few minutes later, Cen Luo got out of the car.
She waved goodbye to Zhao Zhao, then ran toward the noodle shop downstairs. The wind was a little strong, and Cen Luo’s hair was fluttering in the air.
Zhao Zhao looked at Cen Luo’s retreating figure, a little lost in thought.
She is free.
Suddenly, this sentence came to Zhao Zhao’s mind.
In just a few seconds, Zhao Zhao looked away and scoffed at herself:
What a joke. Who isn’t free?
As soon as Cen Luo entered the noodle shop, she was met with many people’s stares.
One uncle, in his fifties, was staring intently at her, which made her stop in her tracks.
“Xiao Luo, where have you been all these days? Why didn’t you come to pick up the photo album and camera as you said you would?”
Oh, so it’s someone she knows.
Cen Luo randomly chose a table against the wall and sat down. She replied, “I had a little accident. I forgot. Sorry about that.”
This answer stunned Uncle Liu for a moment, then he smiled and said, “It’s good that you’re okay. It’s good that you’re okay.”
“I ran into your girlfriend a few days ago. I asked her to take the camera and photo album to you. Did you receive them?”
A few days ago? Girlfriend? Jian Mu?
No wonder the photo album and camera were with her.
But, she came these past few days?
“Uncle, are you sure my girlfriend personally took them?”
Although Cen Luo really didn’t want to use the word “girlfriend” to describe Jian Mu, she could only talk to this uncle this way now.
Uncle Liu frowned: “You child, why aren’t you calling me Uncle Liu anymore? Calling me ‘Uncle’ sounds so distant.”
After all, they had known each other for two years.
Cen Luo was eager to hear the answer, so she humored him and called him “Uncle Liu” a few times.
Only then did Uncle Liu continue: “It was the person in your camera, right?”
It was indeed Jian Mu.
Cen Luo scratched her head. She didn’t know if she had ever mentioned Jian Mu to Uncle Liu before, but she still explained: “I don’t have anything to do with her anymore.”
But what made Cen Luo more confused was, did Jian Mu know she owned a house in West Street? And did she know which apartment she lived in?
Didn’t Xiao Ran say Jian Mu didn’t know?
Didn’t she say she was worried Jian Mu would ask her to move out of Nanyang Yulou if she knew she owned a house?
Looking at it now, it seems Jian Mu knew all along?
