After Teasing the aloof Arch-Nemesis Omega - Chapter 1
In the most prosperous district of Domain A, neon lights of every color intertwined with the glow of streetlamps, driving away the darkness that should have belonged to the night.
Only the area around a certain villa was very dim. The bedroom on the second floor was even more pitch-black. Heavy curtains were tightly drawn, not letting in the slightest trace of light, making the entire room feel oppressive.
On the bed, Fang Zhijin’s body sank deep into the soft mattress. Her sleeping face looked very peaceful; only her unconsciously furrowed brows revealed her true state.
She was having that dream again.
In the dream, it was a rainy day. The sound of rain was deafening. She had collapsed in a run-down alley, her consciousness hazy, her body cold, her gland aching so badly it felt as if it had been gouged out.
She knew she was about to die, Fang Zhijin thought almost calmly.
In this kind of weather, there were no pedestrians around. Aside from the noisy rain, she could hear nothing else, as if the entire world had abandoned her here.
Until a trembling voice, mixed with pain and panic, pierced through the layers of rain and reached her ears.
“Fang Zhijin, Fang…”
The extreme pain seemed to stop the speaker from saying the rest.
Fang Zhijin could sense someone running through the heavy rain, drawing closer. Their steps were messy yet urgent.
Who was it?
That cry sounded so despairing. The person was running toward her so recklessly, as if their world had collapsed, as if they had lost their most precious treasure and were desperately trying to hold on to it.
Fang Zhijin did not know. In the final second before she lost consciousness, she could only make out a blurry silhouette.
Then, the world completely sank into darkness.
The dream ended there.
In the bedroom, Fang Zhijin opened her eyes.
The pain from the dream seemed to still linger in her body, leaving Fang Zhijin in a rather bad mood.
Outside the window, heavy rain had begun to fall. The sound of rain passed through the thick walls, becoming dull and muffled. Over the past few days, Domain A seemed to have entered some sort of rainy season, with rain falling continuously for quite some time.
Fang Zhijin did not like this kind of weather. It made her think of that unpleasant dream again.
She turned on the bedside lamp, got out of bed, and planned to drink some water.
Perhaps because it was the rainy season, the surrounding temperature had dropped a little. Fang Zhijin draped a coat over herself and, when she got out of bed to get her glass, casually tapped open the communicator on her wrist.
The communicator emitted a faint glow. Several people had sent her messages.
The first contact’s note consisted of only two cold words: Mother.
: Elite Academy starts tomorrow. Prepare properly. Don’t embarrass the family.
Fang Zhijin’s gaze swept over it. She did not reply and selectively ignored the message.
Instead, she continued scrolling down.
The second person who had sent a message was her attending physician.
The other party had sent her a picture. It was a medical examination report.
It showed various values, all of which were within the normal range, indicating that there was nothing wrong with her body.
The communicator’s cold white light fell across Fang Zhijin’s refined and handsome face, casting a small shadow.
Looking at the data on it, Fang Zhijin’s eyes darkened.
These past few days, she had been having the same dream. She dreamed that this world was an ABO redemption novel. The protagonist of the novel was a poor commoner from Domain D named Yu Yunlan, an Omega who disguised herself as an Alpha and got into Elite Academy. Her talent was astonishing.
But because of her humble background, along with her cold personality, the protagonist offended a certain powerful elite as soon as she enrolled. From then on, she began to suffer all kinds of isolation, targeting, and deliberate difficulties.
Yu Yunlan started shutting herself off, and her personality developed more and more toward that of an iceberg. It was not until the sunny official Alpha love interest enrolled midway and redeemed her through persistent companionship that this iceberg finally showed signs of melting.
As for Fang Zhijin, in this novel, she was merely a supporting character. At most, she could be considered the protagonist’s arch-nemesis. In the early stage, because the protagonist’s talent was on par with her own, she began suppressing the protagonist. In the end, after the protagonist achieved success and fame, her gland was ruined, turning her into a cripple. After losing the protection of her family, she died on a certain rainy night.
The dream just now was the scene of her death in the novel. Her knowledge of the original plot only went as far as that. As for how the redemption story developed afterward, Fang Zhijin did not know.
But she guessed that it was probably just the clichéd routine of the two protagonists ending up together.
What a boring story.
As for the person in the dream who called her name, Fang Zhijin did not know that person’s identity, nor did she currently want to waste unnecessary energy thinking about it.
Fang Zhijin’s fingertip lightly tapped the glowing screen of the communicator, landing on the result that said “everything is normal.”
Since both her body and mind were normal…
The corners of Fang Zhijin’s lips curved slightly. In that instant, her face gave off a gentle feeling like a spring breeze brushing past, yet her eyes grew darker and darker.
Then that dream might be real.
The glass in her hand felt very cold. Fang Zhijin took a sip of water before reopening the chat page with her mother and lazily typing three words:
: Got it.
The communicator turned off. Fang Zhijin rubbed the pad of her finger against the glass, letting the cold temperature seep into her skin.
Thinking of Elite Academy, she lowered her eyes in thought. After a long while, she revealed a faint smile.
If she remembered correctly, tomorrow, that protagonist named Yu Yunlan would also be enrolling.
…
It had been raining heavily in Domain A for several days straight. Even during the day, the sky was dark and gloomy.
Elite Academy’s teaching buildings stood at the very center of Domain A’s imperial capital. The opening ceremony would begin that afternoon in the grand cathedral.
A youthful and pretty Omega was holding her smart terminal, chatting with her friend.
Her friend asked: How are you doing in Domain A? Don’t you start school today?
The Omega replied on her smart terminal: Yeah, I have to attend Elite Academy’s opening ceremony this afternoon.
Her friend asked: Wow, then doesn’t that mean you’ll get to see Fang Zhijin?
The Omega thought for a moment, then replied: Yes. She’s the freshman representative, so she’ll be giving a speech at the opening ceremony.
Her friend instantly became excited and hurriedly said: Oh my god, I’m so jealous. I heard people from Domain A say she’s super beautiful, and especially gentle too. Anyway, she’s basically perfect.
Looking at her friend’s screen full of praise, the Omega silently complained to herself. How could there be such a perfect person? Domain A had always been known as a gathering place for the powerful and wealthy. Many people there carried a vague sense of arrogance, not to mention that Fang Zhijin was among the very top of Domain A’s elites. She did not believe Fang Zhijin had a good personality at all.
She lowered her head and looked at her communicator, so focused on chatting that she did not notice a small pit beside her at all.
It had rained heavily for days, and a puddle had gathered inside it. Just as she was about to step into it, a force suddenly tugged at the hem of her clothes.
She was pulled back in time.
“Careful.”
A gentle voice sounded beside her, light and soft, like a feather brushing past her ear, bringing a faint ticklish sensation.
The Omega raised her head in a daze. Beneath Elite Academy’s solemn and majestic buildings and the dark, gloomy sky, a beautiful face suddenly entered her vision without warning.
It was an Alpha a little taller than her. Elite Academy’s uniform looked noble and beautiful on her. Her soft, glossy black hair fell behind her shoulders, making her skin appear even more luminous.
Right now, she was holding onto the Omega’s clothes and looking at her with focused eyes. Her bright black eyes were filled with a smile, and the nameplate on her academy uniform displayed the Alpha’s name.
—Fang Zhijin.
The Omega felt as if her heart had been struck by something invisible. It was clearly cloudy today, yet as long as she looked at that face, she felt as if the entire surroundings had brightened.
The other girl let go of her. “Classmate, are you all right?”
The Omega suddenly snapped back to her senses. “I-I-I-I-I’m fine!”
She lowered her head shyly, yet could not help stealing glances from the corner of her eye. “I’m fine. Um… thank you.”
Fang Zhijin’s tone was gentle. “Are you also a freshman this year? You look very nice in this outfit. It would be a shame if it got dirtied by muddy water.”
After saying that, she curved her eyes and let out a soft laugh, making her entire person seem even more dazzling.
The Omega was so dazzled by that face that her mind went dizzy. It was not until Fang Zhijin’s figure had gone far away that she barely came back to herself.
Looking in the direction where the other girl had left, she covered her wildly beating heart, her earlobes bright red. She opened her smart terminal and typed excitedly:
Help, I take it back, I totally take it back! I just saw Fang Zhijin. She really is so beautiful. A gentle goddess, ahhhhhhh!
…
On the other side, after passing a certain corner and making sure no one could see her, the gentleness on Fang Zhijin’s face disappeared, as if she had taken off a mask she had worn for a long time.
She casually brushed aside the long hair that had just fallen over her chest and looked toward a certain place ahead.
Logically speaking, she should be at the grand cathedral right now, preparing for her opening speech.
As for why she had appeared here, it was purely because she wanted to see something interesting.
For example… a certain protagonist.
Thinking of the things in her dream, the corners of Fang Zhijin’s lips curved into a slight arc. There was a wickedness about her that was completely incompatible with her gentle appearance. She walked in that direction.
The corridors of Elite Academy were spacious. Black and white marble tiles crisscrossed each other, laid out like some sort of chessboard. Fang Zhijin stepped, one step at a time, only on the black tiles.
When she arrived at a certain place, she heard the noise of an argument.
“I was wondering why you were so rude. Turns out you’re a poor student.”
“Elite Academy really does recruit just anyone nowadays. Aren’t they afraid certain people will bring germs in?”
“You dirtied someone’s shoes and didn’t even apologize. As expected of a poor commoner who’s never received any higher education.”
Fang Zhijin stopped walking. Standing on the second floor, she looked down.
Downstairs, several tall Alphas wearing Elite Academy uniforms were blocking a figure in the middle.
The person in the center only revealed a small part of her side profile. Through the gaps between the people, Fang Zhijin could vaguely see that the person’s ponytail was tied high, her figure tall and graceful, like a green bamboo standing upright.
Fang Zhijin lightly tapped her fingertip, staring at that figure.
Sure enough, she had not remembered incorrectly. The novel’s protagonist, Yu Yunlan, had appeared.
This was the beginning of the novel.
Perhaps her gaze was too direct, because the person below seemed to sense something. She turned her head and looked up toward the second floor.
Separated by the height of one floor, Fang Zhijin and this so-called protagonist met each other’s eyes.
Fang Zhijin was finally able to see this protagonist’s full appearance clearly.
For someone who could become the protagonist of a novel, Yu Yunlan’s looks were naturally far from ordinary.
On the contrary, she was very beautiful. Her brows and eyes were like a painting, and her cold, distant aura was like rime ice on a snowy mountain. The gaze she cast over was indifferent. She was a beauty who had the words “stay away from me” written directly on her face.
As a high-level Alpha, Fang Zhijin’s five senses allowed her to see some details on the other girl’s face clearly. She could also notice that this protagonist’s complexion was somewhat pale. Her lips were pressed together, and she looked as if she felt very unwell.
Of course Fang Zhijin knew what was going on. When this protagonist first enrolled, her heat happened to arrive, and she had not yet had time to inject a suppressant.
The two of them continued looking at each other. Neither was the first to look away.
One of the Alphas who had originally been surrounding Yu Yunlan saw that she had directly ignored him and was looking up at who-knew-what. He could not help becoming furious.
“I’m talking to you! Did you not hear me?”
Yu Yunlan finally withdrew her gaze. She looked coldly at the person in front of her. Her thin lips parted slightly, and she spoke her first words after enrolling.
“You’re noisy.”
