After Teasing the aloof Arch-Nemesis Omega - Chapter 2
The cold tone carried a natural sense of distance. Combined with her expressionless face, Yu Yunlan’s words sounded almost like a provocation.
The Alpha thought so too. He was furious, gritting his teeth as he snarled, “You actually dare to provoke me!”
But in reality, Yu Yunlan simply found his voice extremely unpleasant.
These Alphas had rough, hoarse voices and had been chattering nonstop since earlier, like annoying mosquitoes.
Yu Yunlan tried her best to stay upright. There was a swelling pain in the gland at the back of her neck. She knew her heat period was approaching.
Fortunately, she had injected herself with a special suppressant that morning. This type of drug was banned in the empire and had strong side effects, but it could effectively mask an Omega’s pheromones.
Even during her heat, she didn’t have to worry about her Omega identity being exposed.
Yu Yunlan’s fingertips curled slightly. After enduring another wave of pain, her gaze unconsciously drifted toward the second floor again.
Fang Zhijin, however, had no idea about the protagonist’s small movements. She had already left her previous spot and was heading downstairs.
She wanted to watch the show — and while she was at it, trip up the protagonist a little.
Therefore, Yu Yunlan did not see the person she was looking for on the second floor. Her gaze paused for a moment.
The person from earlier is gone. Was she an Alpha? She was really beautiful.
This thought flashed through Yu Yunlan’s mind and quickly disappeared.
Across from her, the Alpha grew even angrier when he saw that Yu Yunlan was ignoring him. He prepared to walk over and teach this ignorant poor person from District D a lesson.
His friend noticed his intention and quickly stopped him: “Hey, wait. Don’t go over there.”
The friend raised his chin with a look of condescending disgust: “Did you forget? District D is full of garbage. The people there probably grew up in trash heaps. If you go over, what if you get something dirty on you?”
The Alpha hesitated. He glanced at Yu Yunlan.
It was the enrollment period at the Elite Academy, yet Yu Yunlan was not wearing the custom uniform. Instead, she wore a simple, somewhat worn-out set of private clothes. Although they were clean and tidy, it was obvious they had been worn many times.
District D was the most chaotic and backward place in the empire, known as the garbage zone. People who lived there didn’t have enough money to leave and could only live among the trash.
Thinking of this, a flash of disgust appeared in the Alpha’s eyes. He no longer wanted to approach her. “You’re right. This kind of rat from District D isn’t worth my time. Who knows how dirty she is.”
He looked at Yu Yunlan: “Hey, since you’re from District D and haven’t seen much of the world, I’ll let it go this time. Kneel down, apologize to me, and I’ll forgive you. How about that?”
“Why should I apologize to you?” Yu Yunlan’s expression remained indifferent.
Even after being publicly scorned, her face showed no change.
The Alpha: “Because I almost fell earlier! You were clearly standing right next to me, but you didn’t help me. You let me step into that puddle. Do you know how expensive my shoes are?”
“So why should I have caught you?” Yu Yunlan’s voice became even colder than before.
The Alpha was stunned: “What?”
Yu Yunlan: “You’re dirty. I didn’t want to touch you.”
She glanced at the Alpha’s shoes. They looked expensive, but after stepping into the puddle, they were completely soaked, and there was even some mud on the side.
“You—!” The Alpha’s face turned purple with rage. “Fine! You really want me to teach you a lesson, huh!”
With that, he openly released his Alpha pheromones.
A smoky, gunpowder-like scent gradually spread through the area. Although his pheromone level wasn’t top-tier, he was full of confidence. He believed it was enough to make the person in front of him kneel and beg for mercy.
When Alpha pheromones clashed with each other, they only triggered a sense of competition. Like animals marking territory, one side would eventually submit.
No one around spoke. The atmosphere was stretched taut like a bowstring.
Before the smoky scent could reach Yu Yunlan, a voice laced with amusement cut through the tension: “It looks quite lively here.”
Not far away, Fang Zhijin’s figure slowly came into view.
At that moment, a breeze picked up, lifting the ends of Fang Zhijin’s hair and the hem of her clothes. It also blew away and diluted the pheromones the Alpha had just released.
The gunpowder scent was like a match soaked in water — reduced to a thin wisp of smoke that scattered with the wind.
Fang Zhijin walked toward them. With just a simple sentence, she drew everyone’s attention.
The powerful presence of a high-ranking Alpha made the people around unconsciously step aside, clearing a path for her.
Like the center of attention, she arrived in front of Yu Yunlan.
Whispers spread through the crowd.
Someone asked uncertainly: “Oh my god, is that Fang Zhijin?”
Someone else replied proudly: “Yes, it’s her. My family attended the Fang family’s banquet last year. I’ve seen her. That’s Fang Zhijin.”
The reply immediately earned many envious looks.
Many people were eager to strike up a conversation with this top-tier elite from Area A.
After all, not only was Fang Zhijin from a powerful family and known for her gentle personality, but her personal strength was also outstanding. Her pheromone level had reached high-rank long ago, and she had achieved full “S” grades in this year’s entrance assessment!
“F-Fang… Classmate Fang! Hello!” Even the Alpha who had been aggressively confronting Yu Yunlan now looked at Fang Zhijin with fervent eyes.
“Hello.” Fang Zhijin glanced at him. The smile on her lips looked very friendly, but her next words caused a trace of unease. “I think I sensed someone releasing pheromones just now.”
“This… I…”
Fang Zhijin looked at Yu Yunlan and happened to meet her gaze.
Her smile deepened: “Releasing pheromones on school grounds seems to violate the school rules.”
Someone in the crowd looked confused and whispered, “Did Fang Zhijin get it wrong? Wasn’t it only one Alpha who released pheromones?”
The person next to them gently bumped her: “Don’t talk nonsense. Fang Zhijin is a high-ranking Alpha. Maybe that person from District D also released pheromones, but we just couldn’t smell it.”
“Alright, alright.” Though still doubtful, the person shut their mouth.
“It’s not good to break school rules.” Fang Zhijin said understandingly, “So I already sent a message to the school authorities.”
“W-What?” The Alpha’s expression changed.
He hadn’t expected Fang Zhijin to escalate such a small matter to the school. If things went as expected, violating school rules would result in a demerit.
Getting a demerit right at the start of school would make him a laughingstock.
The Alpha tried to salvage the situation: “I didn’t do it on purpose…”
“I know you might not have meant to.” Fang Zhijin interrupted calmly. Her expression showed some reluctance. “But since we’ve just enrolled, I think we should still follow the rules.”
“If we don’t handle this properly, school discipline will fall apart in the future.”
If someone else had said this, they would probably be mocked for being naïve.
But when these words came from Fang Zhijin’s mouth, no one dared to object.
The people around nodded in agreement.
“Yeah, yeah.”
“The school rules clearly state that you can’t release pheromones casually. If we let this slide, then anyone can do it later, right?”
Under these voices, Fang Zhijin felt extremely pleased. She looked at the protagonist again.
From beginning to end, the other party had barely spoken. She had simply been watching her.
What? Are you unhappy that I might get you a disciplinary record? Good.
Fang Zhijin said: “Classmate, why aren’t you wearing a uniform? Are you from District D?”
“Your expression is so cold. Why aren’t you saying anything?”
She slowly stepped closer to Yu Yunlan, her gaze sweeping over the protagonist’s tall, slender figure.
Even in slightly worn clothes, Yu Yunlan looked cold and dignified. Because of her approaching heat, her face was a little pale. Up close, one could even see a faint sheen of sweat on her forehead.
Looking at the protagonist like this, Fang Zhijin remembered the dream again — and her own ending in that dream.
Any normal person who knew the plot would try to build a good relationship with the protagonist, right?
But Fang Zhijin refused.
She continued looking upward slowly until her gaze landed on the topmost button of Yu Yunlan’s clothes.
From the dream, she knew this person hated others getting close to her or touching her — even her official Alpha partner was no exception.
Fang Zhijin thought: Then I’ll deliberately provoke her, anger her, and make her hate me even more.
She leaned down, bringing their upper bodies very close.
She waited for the protagonist’s reaction — disgust? Revulsion? Hatred?
But she didn’t get any of those.
Yu Yunlan didn’t dodge. She simply asked a question: “Why are you leaning so close?”
Everyone else thinks people from District D are dirty, yet why are you leaning so close?
To Fang Zhijin’s ears, this was proof of the protagonist’s aversion. Satisfied, she tilted her head, pretending to be puzzled: “Is that not allowed?”
This was their first conversation.
From a distance, their bodies looked almost pressed together, exuding an inexplicable intimacy.
“I was just a little curious…” Fang Zhijin deliberately lowered her voice so that only the two of them could hear. “Classmate, do you know… you smell really good.”
Smell good?
Yu Yunlan silently repeated the words in her mind. Her fingertips curled at her side. She didn’t know if it was because of her heat period, but she felt that Fang Zhijin’s breath was very hot. When it landed on her neck, it felt like it could burn the skin beneath her clothes.
The aching, swollen sensation in her gland returned. Her Omega pheromones surged beneath her skin, trying to break through, only to be suppressed again by the drug.
Yu Yunlan lowered her eyelashes slightly, concealing a ripple of emotion in her eyes, and said:
“Please show some self-respect.”
