After The Scumbag Alpha Consort Chose To Lie Flat, The Princess Rebelled - Chapter 5
“Your Highness!”
Early in the morning, Silan heard Silver One come to submit the surveillance booklet. Silver One even said, “Chief, the consort seems to be sick. Last night, the consort suddenly seemed possessed, crawled up in the middle of the night to perform some kind of shaman dance, and then lay back down and couldn’t get up again.”
Silan listened in complete confusion. Fortunately, Silver Two had come along as well.
“Registrar, the consort appears to have developed a fever. This subordinate has already had the residence physician go over to examine her, but the physician says the consort’s illness is strange and hopes it can be reported to Her Highness, so Miss Yun can come take a look.”
Silan accepted the booklet and told the two of them to go back and continue watching the consort.
Then she turned and waited outside the princess’s sleeping chambers.
A quarter of an hour later, the princess finally woke.
While the princess was washing and dressing, Silan had the message passed inside, and only then did she see Meng Qianyan.
“What happened to the consort?” Meng Qianyan allowed the maids to dress her while raising her hand to accept the booklet Silan handed over. After reading through a few pages, she could not help frowning. “Why was this only reported now? Where is Yun Rou? Have her go over.”
“Yes, Your Highness.” Silan added, “Your Highness, the consort behaved strangely in the middle of the night. Should it be investigated?”
“Heh. There are too many strange things about her. One more makes no difference. There is no hurry. Saving her comes first.” Meng Qianyan said to her, “You go over first and take proper care of the consort. Do not let the servants neglect her. This palace will arrive shortly.”
“Yes.” Silan’s heart trembled slightly. Was this concern of Her Highness’s for the breeding of the red fruits, or for the consort herself?
If it was the latter, then she would need to be more careful when facing the consort in the future.
After Silan left, Meng Qianyan had the attendants dispense with the elaborate dressing.
“Keep everything simple. Move faster.” Meng Qianyan flipped through the booklet again. Silver One and Silver Two would not deceive her, so the records in the booklet were true. If the facts were truly as written, then the consort really did have an illness in the head, just as the rumors said.
Was such a person suitable to keep by her side?
Meng Qianyan pressed down that thought. She rose and saw that she was already properly dressed, then dismissed the maids and took her attendants and guards to the side room where the consort was staying.
Quite a few people were standing outside, and there were even more inside. All six residence physicians were in the room, and Yun Rou, who had been invited over afterward, was there as well. She was currently taking the consort’s pulse, while the six residence physicians craned their necks to watch, hoping to secretly learn a little of the famous physician’s skill.
Silan was waiting outside. When she saw Meng Qianyan arrive, she hurriedly went forward to meet her.
“Your Highness, the consort’s illness came on urgently, and there may be a risk of contagion. Your Highness must not approach. This subordinate can go in and attend to her.”
Meng Qianyan did not respond to her words. Instead, she asked, “What did Yun Rou say?”
“Miss Yun said there is a current of qi inside the consort’s body detoxifying her. It affected her heart meridians, which is why the consort remains unconscious.”
“Since she collapsed because of poison, there is no question of contagion. This palace will go in and look.” Meng Qianyan spoke, and Silan could only step aside.
As they walked, Silan said, “Although the consort’s body is frail, she was examined by an imperial physician on the day she entered the residence. How could there be poison inside her body?”
Meng Qianyan’s steps paused. She looked at Silan for a long time, then said coldly, “Do not mention this again.”
After turning it over in her mind, Silan understood.
The consort was a marriage the Eastern Palace had requested for Her Highness, and the imperial physician had also been assigned by the palace. Whether there was poison in the consort’s body or not—was that not simply a matter of the imperial physician’s word?
Silan’s thoughts grew even more conspiratorial, and the Crown Prince flashed through her mind. She broke out in cold sweat from the fright.
Could it be that the Crown Prince had planned to wait until the matter of the marriage alliance passed, then arrange for the consort to die?
When Meng Qianyan entered the room, everyone inside prepared to salute, but she excused them.
“Treating the consort comes first. Unrelated people, go outside and wait.” Meng Qianyan stood by the bed, looking down from above at the person who was sweating heavily and unconscious.
Once the servants had all gone out, the residence physicians thought for a moment and followed them out as well.
Those who could not help counted as unrelated people. They did not even understand what illness the consort had, so naturally, they counted too.
Soon, only Meng Qianyan, Silan, and Yun Rou remained in the room. Yun Rou was taking out needles and preparing to perform acupuncture on the consort.
“Silan, withdraw,” Meng Qianyan said.
Silan froze for an instant, then quickly withdrew as well, closing the door behind her.
Yun Rou was fully focused on practicing medicine. After sterilizing the silver needles and preparing to insert them, she discovered that all the people around her were gone.
“Your Highness? When did you arrive?” Yun Rou prepared to salute, only to be stopped by Meng Qianyan once again.
“Save the consort first.”
“I need someone to help support the consort and sit her up. I have to place needles along her back. Once these nine needles go in, they will help the consort expel the poison. The chaotic poison qi inside her body may cause her endless pain.”
Meng Qianyan instinctively wanted to call Silan in, only to remember that she herself had sent Silan away.
“This palace will do it.”
“Oh. Then help hold her down.” Yun Rou had come from the jianghu and loved researching medicine, but she did not have much money and could not buy many precious medicinal herbs. She could go gather herbs herself, but a few years ago, she had gotten lost in a deep mountain and fallen into a wild boar pit trap built by hunters, nearly losing half her life.
Fortunately, the princess’s guards had passed by while carrying out a mission and pulled her out.
To repay that kindness, she had come to the princess’s residence. Then she discovered that the hiring gift offered to physicians by the princess’s residence was simply far too generous, so she decided to transform from a wandering physician into the residence physician of the princess’s estate.
Because of that, she had long been used to living free and unfettered outside. Even after coming to the princess’s residence, she had little sense of rules.
Meng Qianyan did not mind this casual, informal way of doing things. As long as someone had talent and was willing to remain by her side, it did not matter even if they lacked manners.
“Hold her down. She may struggle violently in a moment,” Yun Rou warned her in advance, telling her to use more strength.
For the first time, Meng Qianyan climbed onto an Alpha’s bed in such an inelegant manner. Although this person was her consort, the two of them had never been intimate. When she helped Gu Xianyu sit up, she felt some unease in her heart, but very quickly, her attention was drawn away by the burning-hot person in her arms.
“So fragrant…”
Gu Xianyu murmured. Yun Rou, who was a little farther away, did not hear it, but Meng Qianyan, who was holding her in her arms, heard it clearly. The expression on her face changed again and again before she quietly pinched Gu Xianyu’s waist.
Her heat was due in the next few days, and her pheromone scent was more or less leaking out beyond her control. Other Alphas did not dare approach her. Those serving close at her side were either Omegas or Betas. No one dared behave like a lecher and tell her she smelled so good every single time they saw her.
“Your Highness, hold her down,” Yun Rou reminded her again. “Once this needle goes in, even a tiger or wolf would be half-dead from the pain.”
Meng Qianyan nodded lightly, but what she said was, “Needle her. Needle her harder.”
“…”
Yun Rou held herself back from arguing with the person who provided her food and clothing. Acupuncture was not something that could be done recklessly. It was not as if the heavier, the better.
The princess really was so concerned that it had clouded her judgment.
Yun Rou nodded, then inserted one needle.
Meng Qianyan watched Gu Xianyu twitch in her arms like a fish before death, then go still.
“What happened?” Meng Qianyan even reached out to test Gu Xianyu’s breath. Finding that she was still breathing, she finally let out a sigh of relief.
Yun Rou took Gu Xianyu’s wrist and checked her pulse, then frowned. “She fainted from the pain.”
“It doesn’t matter. One more needle will definitely wake her from the pain.” Yun Rou took another thick needle and stabbed it into the back of Gu Xianyu’s neck.
“Ah—”
Gu Xianyu woke up as expected, her eyes wide, her mouth gaping open. Tears the size of beans rolled straight out of her bloodshot eyes.
“Hold her down!” Yun Rou shouted.
Meng Qianyan used sudden force to firmly lock the person in her arms in place.
Gu Xianyu felt pain everywhere in her body, but her brain was still thinking.
In the latter half of last night, when she felt her body heating up, she had only then remembered that wood-type abilities did not only accelerate plant growth. They also had healing functions.
It was just that this healing function was rather strange. It would only activate when she faced a life-or-death crisis. So last night, had she almost died?
Yesterday, the wood-type ability sensed toxins and hidden ailments inside her body and began automatically repairing them after she fell asleep.
In the latter half of the night, the ability energy was suddenly exhausted, but the toxins had not yet been completely resolved. The tiny bit of remaining ability energy began concentrating itself, trying to protect her heart and lungs first. But her meridians were blocked and it could not get through, so it kept crashing wildly around inside her body.
Now, the place that had suddenly been blocked had been opened. That tiny bit of remaining ability energy plunged in all at once, nearly wrecking her completely.
To put it simply, there were three forces fighting inside her body.
Hidden ailments, toxins, and ability energy.
Right now, they were going back and forth in battle. Meanwhile, her ability energy was slowly being consumed and could not be replenished, so each attack it launched became fiercer than the last. It was trying to gamble everything in one final push. If it won, they would all perish together. If it lost, then even the fish would die and the net would tear.
In her daze, Gu Xianyu almost saw her great-grandmother.
No—
Not her great-grandmother. It seemed to be the princess.
The princess was actually holding her. Was this real or fake?
Gu Xianyu turned her head to look over, wanting to confirm whether it was real. But suddenly, a shock ran through her back. In the next second, her heart began beating violently, followed by a burning sensation spreading through her entire body.
All her meridians had opened, so…
“Awoo! Ahhh—”
For the first time, Gu Xianyu learned that tears really could shoot out.
Who was torturing her?
Gu Xianyu turned her head and looked at Meng Qianyan.
Go on, ask. I’ll confess everything!
Very soon, Gu Xianyu lost consciousness.
Meng Qianyan looked at her, unconscious once again, and her thoughts grew somewhat complicated.
She could tell that Gu Xianyu was in great pain. One moment, her body was icy cold to the bone; the next, it was unbearably hot. In this state of ice and fire, aside from crying out a few times, she surprisingly did not struggle much.
This person was rather good at enduring.
“Yun Rou, how much longer before she is well?”
“That depends on when the qi inside her body is used up. Speaking of which, it’s strange. I’ve never seen something that can heal itself before. It’s a bit like the gu from the south, but what is inside the consort isn’t a worm. It’s an indescribable mass of qi.”
Even though Meng Qianyan was knowledgeable and experienced, she still found these words surprising.
“Does this thing cause any harm?” Meng Qianyan asked.
Yun Rou shook her head. “I’m not sure about that. At present, it doesn’t seem to. That mass of qi is saving the consort. But once the qi is used up, I won’t know what to do. Right now, we can only hope that before that mass of qi is completely exhausted, it can first clear the toxins from the consort’s body.”
Meng Qianyan understood what she meant. It was like two armies facing each other; they could only see who occupied the crucial ground first.
As for the hidden ailments, it was said that the consort had brought them from the womb. They might not be curable. In the future, she could only be carefully nursed.
“I’ll add another needle to gather some of the scattered qi in her body together.” Yun Rou’s eyes were practically shining as she looked at the consort now.
This was a strange case she had never seen before, and the consort was an even stranger person unlike anyone she had ever encountered.
“Your Highness, if one day you grow tired of the consort, can you give her to me?” Yun Rou’s longing gaze stayed fixed on the consort. “I want to cut her open and see how her body is built.”
“…” Meng Qianyan opened her mouth, then finally replied, “Impudent.”
“All right then.” Yun Rou gave up very quickly. No matter how good her medical skills were, she still needed silver to eat. No matter how deeply she researched, she still needed Her Highness to provide medicinal herbs and a place to work.
It seemed the princess was deeply attached to the consort. Before the princess grew tired of the consort, Yun Rou could not bring this up a second time.
Yun Rou’s gaze still wandered over Gu Xianyu.
She really wanted to carry her away right now and study her properly.
