After Transmigrating as a Beta, I Got Messed Up with an Alpha (BL) - Chapter 16
Perhaps because Huo Juan had been so forcefully hugging and holding him whenever he pleased before, Pei Yule found that he lacked any sense of awkwardness regarding physical contact with this person. He reached out directly and grasped Huo Juan’s hand, holding it for a few seconds as if they were performing a simple handshake.
“How is it?”
After a few seconds, Pei Yule looked up and asked, “Does this calm you down too?”
…It was the same near-instantaneous effect, as if by magic. The pain began to recede from the point of contact, perhaps even a bit faster than when Huo Juan was the one taking the initiative.
Long, thick eyelashes concealed the unreadable depths of Huo Juan’s eyes. He said, “It’s alright.”
Is it not enough?
Pei Yule didn’t think much of it and let go of Huo Juan’s hand. The other person didn’t try to hold on, which made Pei Yule suspect his earlier theory was correct: Huo Juan was likely forcing himself to endure the contact as well.
Since Huo Juan had said “you’ll know if you try,” Pei Yule remained in “testing mode.” He boldly extended his arm and hooked it around Huo Juan’s shoulder, much like he would with a buddy.
There was a height difference between them; Pei Yule had to stand on his tiptoes to reach.
At 1.82 meters, he was actually considered tall, but this guy was clearly over 1.85—likely around 1.87 or 1.88. In this world, Alphas were superior to ordinary people in every aspect, and height was no exception. Especially this top-tier Alpha, who was even more exceptional than the average.
How annoying.
Pei Yule decided to ignore the obvious height difference that bothered him. Pretending he wasn’t on his tiptoes, he asked curiously, “Now?”
This wasn’t the first time Huo Juan had been draped over the shoulder. He had grown up with Xu Yanxi and had a mischievous childhood; back then, his repulsion toward others wasn’t as severe as it was now, and he occasionally had this kind of contact with Xu Yanxi.
But that was before high school. In these three years of high school, the first person brave enough to do this to him was the Pei Yule in front of him.
This person had clearly been suppressed by his pheromones before, his body trembling uncontrollably, yet as they spent more time together, the fear in his eyes had gradually vanished. Sometimes the boy even glared at him and told him “no” quite decisively. And now, driven by curiosity, he was doing something like this with a fearless, casual attitude.
Where the arm touched his shoulder bone, the pain receded, replaced by a strange sensation of touch he hadn’t felt in years.
Though not short, the arm draped over his shoulder was far too thin—it didn’t even compare to Xu Yanxi back in middle school.
This was a Beta. He had no pheromones, only a faint scent of lemon—likely from his shampoo. Aside from that, there was a trace of cold cypress, a lingering mark of Huo Juan’s own pheromones.
This realization made Huo Juan’s heart stir subtly.
“Student Huo Juan?”
Having received no reply, Pei Yule turned his head and stared up at him.
Huo Juan looked down and met his eyes for a moment, then told the truth: “Only the area being touched calms down.”
So that’s why he’s always hugging me like an octopus? It was true that a hug provided the largest surface area of contact…
Pei Yule finally understood the root of his predicament. He frowned and thought for a moment, then came up with a new question: “Specifically, what are your symptoms, anyway?”
You couldn’t tell just by looking at him. He said it “calmed him down,” but he usually looked perfectly calm.
Huo Juan went silent for a few seconds, then reached out and grabbed Pei Yule’s hand. Before Pei Yule could ask what he was doing, a sharp pain shot through his knuckles. His face turned pale instantly. He gasped and instinctively tried to pull his fingers back, letting out a pained groan:
“It hurts…”
His knuckles felt like they were being crushed, yet he couldn’t pinpoint the exact center of the pain; it felt like his fingers no longer belonged to him, and only the pain was his own.
“…”
Seeing Pei Yule’s face change, Huo Juan’s eyes darkened slightly. He loosened his grip. Pei Yule yanked his hand back immediately, no longer draping his arm over the shoulder. Like a startled cat with its fur standing on end, he scrambled back a large step, rubbing his fingers and complaining:
“You’re way too strong.”
The squeeze had hurt like crazy. Pei Yule looked baffled. “Why did you pinch me all of a sudden? That really hurt—”
Looking at Huo Juan’s calm expression, Pei Yule stopped mid-sentence. He suddenly remembered the question he had just asked and the answer about only the “touched area” being calmed. A spark of realization hit him. Just as he was about to grasp it, Huo Juan said in a flat tone: “The symptoms are a bit like that.”
Only the pain was finer, more pervasive, and seeped into every pore.
Pei Yule understood.
Having read so many ABO books, he wasn’t without gains. At the very least, he could now organize the information into a pattern.
First, touching him calmed Huo Juan down, and the relief was localized to the contact point. Despite hating contact, Huo Juan hugged him like an octopus; combining that with the explanation, Pei Yule guessed his regulatory dysfunction manifested as pain—likely full-body pain.
Pei Yule remembered the books saying mild cases involved fatigue or dizziness, but severe cases could be quite debilitating. Full-body pain wasn’t surprising.
He understood the logic now.
But could you at least show a little bit of pain on your face! Why was he so calm? It made Pei Yule feel embarrassed for crying out after just a single pinch.
If Huo Juan truly felt that kind of pain all over his body, it must be agonizing. Why didn’t he show it? Was it the pride of a top-tier Alpha?
Brother, being too concerned with “face” is a disease in itself.
Huo Juan noticed Pei Yule’s gaze turning strangely complex, but the boy quickly retracted it. He seemed to be mulling something over, his brow furrowed slightly without him even realizing it. Alphas and Omegas were the “blessed” ones in this world, and their looks were always the most striking in a crowd.
The boy in front of him was a Beta. He lacked the sharp handsomeness of an Alpha and the refined delicacy of an Omega. His natural curls were scattered freely, and his light hair color made his skin look exceptionally fair. Beneath those curly bangs were a pair of bright, dark eyes. He wasn’t exactly “handsome” or “pretty” in a traditional sense, but he had a very comfortable, gentle, and kind appearance.
True to his looks, this Beta was soft-hearted. After thinking seriously in silence for a while, he seemed to reach a decision. He stared directly at Huo Juan with those bright eyes and said in a very serious tone:
“In your case… won’t taking medicine help?”
Huo Juan’s expression remained unchanged. “No.”
It made sense. If medicine worked, this guy wouldn’t be so fixated on him. He could tell Huo Juan really didn’t enjoy being close to people.
How was he lucky enough to become a “specific medicine”?
No wonder when he hugged him on the day he transmigrated, Fei Yisa said Huo Juan’s reaction was different from usual. This guy must have realized it at that very moment and sought him out the next day to confirm it. Thinking back to the first time they entered this empty classroom—he had thought the guy was being a “hooligan,” but he was just confirming the truth. Everything finally clicked.
In that case…
Pei Yule took a deep breath and said to Huo Juan, “Three rules.”
Huo Juan rarely had trouble following someone’s train of thought, but Pei Yule quickly clarified: “I understand why you do what you do now. To be honest, I still really don’t like it… but if you’re willing to agree to three rules, I’m not unwilling to help you.”
Pei Yule decided to take the lead. He couldn’t let Huo Juan do as he pleased anymore. The fact that the Alpha was willing to tell him these things now meant he probably didn’t want Pei Yule to keep resisting like before. If you’re physically uncomfortable and your “medicine” is disobedient, it’s a headache.
And ultimately, even if he was unwilling, this guy probably had ways to make him submit, like before. So, talking things out and setting rules was the best solution. If he could turn the situation around a bit, they might find a way to coexist happily.
Huo Juan repeated slowly, “…Three rules?”
“Yes,” Pei Yule nodded. “I understand your situation. I’m willing to help, but I have three requirements.”
Huo Juan didn’t speak. Pei Yule couldn’t read his expression, but he steeled his heart and continued: “First, I want my lunch break to be my own. Don’t force me to come here during lunch anymore. I want to have private time to eat with my friends.”
This would make him less conspicuous at school. After all, staying in an empty room with Huo Juan every day made people wonder. He wanted to end that so people would stop speculating. He wanted to distance their relationship at school in one go.
Pei Yule added: “Second, I hope you stop using your pheromones to suppress me. If you have a request, just tell me properly, and I’ll consider it. If I can help, I will. As for the third…”
He hadn’t thought of a third point yet. Pei Yule said, “I’ll reserve the third point for now. If you’re willing to do the first two, you can pick a time outside of lunch and class for ‘contact therapy,’ and I won’t refuse anymore.”
Ideally, it would be after school when everyone had left, so it wouldn’t draw too much attention even if they stayed behind.
After speaking, Pei Yule looked at Huo Juan nervously, fearing he would refuse. “What do you think?”
He had said a lot, and his throat was dry. Huo Juan just watched him quietly, his thoughts still unreadable.
Pei Yule reflected. Was his tone too forceful? Did he express his requests clearly? Would Huo Juan think he was being arrogant? After all, if the Alpha didn’t want to comply, he could just use pheromones. Would he be unhappy about these unilateral demands?
Seriously, give me a reaction! Pei Yule coughed and asked again, his tone instinctively softening slightly: “Or, do you have anything to add? We can negotiate.”
Huo Juan stared at him for a while, then inconspicuously lowered his eyes to hide a flicker of light. He said words that finally set Pei Yule’s mind at ease: “Alright. We’ll do as you say.”
Great!
Pei Yule’s eyes lit up. Just as he was about to say more, Huo Juan added: “I pick the location.”
As long as he agreed, the location shouldn’t be a problem. Pei Yule said generously, “No problem. Speaking of locations, I also hope you don’t talk to me at school anymore. Do you know how popular you are? Being stared at every day isn’t fun. I just want to study quietly and get into university.”
This time, Huo Juan didn’t make him wait. He said flatly, “Alright. I understand.”
Huo Juan was so easy to talk to today! Pei Yule decisively slammed his hand on the desk. “Then it’s a deal.”
Having resolved the issue and subtly taken control, Pei Yule felt wonderful. But he would soon regret it.
Because Huo Juan’s chosen “location” was his home.
Pei Yule just didn’t know it yet.
The next day at school, Huo Juan kept his word. He didn’t make eye contact or say a single word to him, acting as if he didn’t exist. As soon as lunch started, he left with Xu Yanxi, truly leaving Pei Yule alone in the classroom.
Seeing the confused looks from those around him, Pei Yule was overjoyed. If this continued, people would quickly lose interest and stop speculating about their relationship.
Fei Yisa happened to pass by the hallway and was puzzled to see Pei Yule still in the classroom. He poked his head in. “What’s up? Why are you still here today?”
Wasn’t he usually taken to the private territory by Huo Juan?
Pei Yule just smiled and said nothing.
He spent his free time completely free of Huo Juan’s harassment. When school ended, he packed his books, ready to honor his promise. Once the classroom was empty, he looked at Huo Juan, who was still sleeping on his desk. He poked him with a finger, prepared for “contact therapy.”
The tall Alpha stood up. It was impossible to tell if he had actually been asleep. His beautiful, upturned eyes swept over him, and he murmured: “Let’s go.”
He took the lead. Pei Yule followed, thinking they were going somewhere convenient for the therapy, but he watched Huo Juan head straight out of the school gates.
After following for a while, seeing they were about to leave the campus entirely, Pei Yule couldn’t help but ask, “Huo Juan, where are we going?”
Huo Juan didn’t look back.
“My place.”
Author’s Note: It’s more convenient at home.
