After Transmigrating as a Scum Alpha, a Cold Omega Stole My Heart - Chapter 12
“Whew…” Xie Shuyun wiped the sweat from her forehead, grabbed a nearby bottle of water, tilted her head back, and took a large gulp.
She was currently in the Xie family’s private gym. The room was filled with high-end equipment, many of which she didn’t even recognize, so she stuck to the basics: the treadmill and dumbbell weights.
Looking at the 100-pound dumbbell on the floor, which she could lift easily with one hand, Xie Shuyun couldn’t help but marvel. An Alpha’s physical constitution was truly incredible—she had just run thirty kilometers on the treadmill in only an hour. In her original world, that would be world-class athlete level, yet she didn’t feel particularly exhausted; she felt she could run several more rounds.
However, looking at the records left on the treadmill, presumably by the original owner, the results were even better than hers. It was clear the original owner exercised regularly. She touched her firm abdomen, noticing she even had defined abs—a far cry from the soft belly she used to have.
Beep, beep, beep… Her phone alarm went off. It was nine o’clock—time for breakfast.
After washing off the sweat, Xie Shuyun walked downstairs feeling refreshed, only to freeze mid-step.
She saw Cheng Lingxue standing expressionlessly before the floor-to-ceiling windows in the living room, dressed in outdoor clothes. This surprised Xie Shuyun; on previous holidays, the girl had stayed in her room. What was happening today? Was she going out to have fun?
“Ahem…” Standing in the corner, Qin Yu couldn’t stand seeing her Eldest Miss standing dazed on the stairs, especially since she hadn’t changed into proper clothes yet. She let out a light cough to catch Xie Shuyun’s attention.
She caught it, but simultaneously, Cheng Lingxue noticed the movement and turned around. Her gaze fell first on Qin Yu, then shifted to Xie Shuyun. Seeing the latter’s casual gym wear, her eyes flickered slightly, though her expression remained unreadable.
Uh… the situation seems a bit off… Stared at by two pairs of eyes, Xie Shuyun scratched her head uncomfortably. She couldn’t read anything from Cheng Lingxue’s calm eyes and flat expression, so she could only look to Qin Yu for help.
“Eldest Miss, aren’t you going to the movies with Miss Cheng today? You forgot the time because of your workout again. Hurry and get ready; Miss Cheng has been waiting for you for over ten minutes.”
The movies? Xie Shuyun’s breath hitched. She looked at Qin Yu and then at Cheng Lingxue. Hadn’t she given the tickets to Qin Yu? How did they end up back with Cheng Lingxue? And… the girl actually agreed! This felt even more unbelievable to Xie Shuyun.
“The movie starts at ten.” These few words drifted from Cheng Lingxue’s lips, immediately snapping Xie Shuyun back to reality. Not daring to delay any further, she turned and ran back upstairs, leaving her voice hanging in the air:
“I’ll go change! Wait for me!”
In a luxury department store filled with glittering boutiques, the atmosphere was bright and upscale. Since it was a weekend morning—the time most people sleep in—it wasn’t very crowded, yet the two beautiful girls who walked in still drew a great deal of attention.
The taller girl wore a white shirt paired with the latest trendy denim jeans. The shorter girl wore a pale mint-green sleeveless maxi dress, the simple ribbon at her waist swaying gently as she walked, fluttering like a feather against the hearts of onlookers.
Though their outfits were simple, one was dashing and spirited while the other was elegant and refined. Standing together, they commanded attention not just for their top-tier looks, but for the innate nobility and aura in their gazes. The “turn-back rate” was easily 100%.
However, despite having such a perfect, enviable companion, the taller girl’s face was clouded with gloom.
What’s with this pink envelope? And why have the tickets multiplied? Xie Shuyun looked at the vouchers in her hand, feeling both shocked and speechless.
After a moment of checking the tickets, Xie Shuyun’s gaze fell on Cheng Lingxue. She noticed the girl seemed to be scanning her surroundings—more specifically, looking at the faces of passersby, as if confirming something. Xie Shuyun looked too, but saw nothing out of the ordinary.
“Looking for something? See someone you know?”
Hearing Xie Shuyun’s question, Cheng Lingxue’s body stiffened imperceptibly. She raised a hand to tuck a stray lock of hair behind her ear and turned around, her swaying skirt lightly brushing against Xie Shuyun’s knee, leaving a trace of an itch.
As if noticing her playful skirt, Cheng Lingxue took a step back. She didn’t answer the question, asking instead:
“Where is the cinema?”
“Ah… the cinema is on the seventh floor. Shall we take the elevator?” Xie Shuyun pointed toward the elevator where a few people were queuing, turning her head to seek Cheng Lingxue’s opinion.
After Cheng Lingxue nodded, the two took the elevator to the seventh floor. There were quite a few people in front of the cinema; it seemed most of the customers were gathered here.
Holding the tickets, Xie Shuyun first went to exchange them for two buckets of popcorn. She brought them to Cheng Lingxue like a treasure and asked with a bright smile:
“Do you like sweet or salty popcorn? I got both, pick whichever you like.” As soon as she finished, Cheng Lingxue didn’t stand on ceremony and pointed her finger at the sweet popcorn.
“This one.” Her tone went up slightly and she lifted her chin, looking like a proud cat. It made one want to reach out and pet her head. Xie Shuyun curled her fingers, suppressing that dangerous thought, and coughed lightly.
“Okay. It’s almost time to enter. These are hard to carry, I’ll give it to you once we’re inside.”
Perhaps because it was a morning show, the theater wasn’t large, and the audience was sparse—mostly couples. This setting made Xie Shuyun feel a bit uneasy, so she kept her head down and led Cheng Lingxue to their seats.
One had to admit, Shang Yan was good at choosing; the tickets were for two seats right in the center of the hall, providing the best view.
Cheng Lingxue was about to take a handkerchief from her bag, but she paused as Xie Shuyun leaned over slightly and carefully patted down the chair. Only after confirming it was clean did she gesture to Cheng Lingxue:
“You can sit here. Watch the step.”
Giving Xie Shuyun a complex look, Cheng Lingxue smoothed her skirt and slowly sat down, taking her cup of popcorn from the other’s hand.
Seeing that she was settled, Xie Shuyun finally sat down herself. At the same moment, the movie was about to begin, and the lights dimmed.
In the dark environment, one could only see blurry silhouettes, which naturally amplified one’s senses.
This was especially true for Xie Shuyun; an Alpha’s senses were far sharper than an average person’s. She could almost hear Cheng Lingxue’s shallow breathing, and a trace of warm air seemed to drift over, carrying a sweet milky scent mixed with the freshness of coconut, making her throat feel dry.
Curling her fingers, Xie Shuyun held her breath. She wasn’t sure if she was doing it so her own heavy breathing wouldn’t disturb Cheng Lingxue, or if she wanted to savor that sweet, subtle fragrance.
Suddenly.
Gurgle… Her stomach let out a muffled growl. Xie Shuyun quickly covered it, stolen a cautious glance at Cheng Lingxue. Seeing no reaction, she breathed a sigh of relief. She had worked out for a long time this morning and came out without eating breakfast; she hadn’t felt it while nervous, but now that she was relaxed, the hunger hit her.
She grabbed a few kernels of popcorn and stuffed them into her mouth. The slight saltiness was moving; what was normally just ordinary popcorn tasted like a gourmet feast to a starving person.
She ate quickly but didn’t dare chew loudly. If she made a loud crunching sound, it wouldn’t be good. So, she just held the popcorn in her mouth until it softened before chewing. This was not only silent but also made the flavor last longer. Unfortunately, the cup of popcorn was only as large as a palm; it was finished in ten minutes.
Holding the empty paper cup, Xie Shuyun licked her slightly salty lips, her eyes full of helplessness.
What now? There are still eighty minutes left in the movie, the food is gone, and that tiny amount didn’t even touch the sides—it just made me hungrier. Being hungry was fine, but if her stomach started growling… that would be beyond “social death.”
What she didn’t know was that Cheng Lingxue, who appeared to be focused on the film, was actually watching her every move out of the corner of her eye. She had seen the entire “gobbling” display, and seeing her now like a dejected large dog made a trace of a smile flit across her calm eyes.
Cheng Lingxue looked down at the popcorn in her hand. Compared to her purpose for being here, a small cup of popcorn seemed trivial. Nevertheless, she took one kernel and put it in her mouth, feeling the sweetness on her tongue, before thrusting the paper cup into Xie Shuyun’s hand.
In such a transaction, physical contact was inevitable. Compared to Cheng Lingxue’s lower, cooler body temperature, Xie Shuyun was like a small furnace. If it were winter, this temperature would probably be very comfortable… The thought flashed through Cheng Lingxue’s mind, causing her to frown slightly and quickly withdraw her hand.
Xie Shuyun didn’t have as many complicated thoughts. She looked at the popcorn in her hand, somewhat overwhelmed by the favor. She leaned in toward Cheng Lingxue, remembering that the girl didn’t like being too close, and whispered from a head’s distance away:
“Thank you. I’ll buy you something to eat once we get out.”
Cheng Lingxue simply waved her hand, not putting much thought into the small gesture. She rested her chin on her fist and looked at the flickering screen, her eyes out of focus, clearly lost in her own thoughts.
No longer devouring it like before, Xie Shuyun ate slowly this time, kernel by kernel, finally turning her attention to the movie. However, she was immediately struck by the clichéd plot and character designs.
She wasn’t sure if it was intentional, but the protagonists Shang Yan had chosen were strikingly similar to them: a wealthy, cynical Alpha and a beautiful, tragic Omega with a ruined family. In the first half, they were enemies; in the second half, they reconciled and fell deeply in love.
Watching the two leads embrace, lamenting the past and declaring their love, Xie Shuyun was stunned. She didn’t understand how the director had compressed what should have been a long, drawn-out saga into a two-hour film. Was “distilled” really “the essence”?
But this uncannily similar background made her panic. The popcorn in her mouth suddenly lost its flavor.
This… this kind of trash plot… what if Cheng Lingxue misunderstands? She didn’t have those kinds of intentions at all, she swore!
