After Transmigrating as a Scum Alpha, a Cold Omega Stole My Heart - Chapter 7
Sitting on the sofa, Xie Shuyun was cramming knowledge about Alphas and Omegas. Although she knew the general framework of this world, she had to learn the finer details herself.
Naturally, she didn’t forget to instruct the maids to stew a pot of chicken soup, intending to give Cheng Lingxue a good nutritional boost once she woke up.
“Eldest Miss, here is what you requested,” Qin Yu said softly, handing a sheet of paper to Xie Shuyun.
“Thank you for the trouble. You can go back to your work now.” Taking the paper, Xie Shuyun flashed a smile at Qin Yu before looking down to read. This was the information she had asked for regarding Cheng Lingxue’s dietary preferences, dislikes, and allergies.
Scanning the list, there were no food allergies, and the girl didn’t seem picky; her diet was quite balanced, though she leaned more toward fruits and vegetables—unlike Xie Shuyun, who was a committed carnivore.
But recalling how it felt to carry Cheng Lingxue today, Xie Shuyun still felt the girl was far too thin. She began recording various recipes for supplementary soups that were beneficial for Omegas into her phone and sent them to Qin Yu, instructing her to have the maids make one every day to see if they could improve Cheng Lingxue’s complexion.
Suddenly, she noticed a white figure on the stairs. Looking up, she saw Cheng Lingxue standing there, watching her with a long, unreadable gaze. Xie Shuyun stood up immediately and hurried to the foot of the stairs.
“You’re awake! Do you still feel unwell? Should I call a doctor to check on you?”
“…No need.” Looking at Xie Shuyun, Cheng Lingxue slowly walked down the stairs to stand before her. “Who brought me back?”
So she wanted to ask that! Realizing this, Xie Shuyun quickly explained:
“I saw you were sleeping soundly and wouldn’t wake up after several tries. The school doctor said your nerves were likely too strained from the heat cycle and that you’d be fine after some rest, so I requested a leave of absence from school on your behalf.”
Cheng Lingxue’s lips parted slightly. She had too many questions, but she couldn’t bring herself to ask them. Xie Shuyun didn’t notice her internal conflict; instead, she pointed toward the kitchen.
“I had the maids stew a pot of chicken soup. You must be hungry after sleeping so long. It’s still a while until dinner; do you want to have some to tide you over?”
Facing Xie Shuyun’s earnest gaze, Cheng Lingxue didn’t refuse. She wanted to see just how long this person could keep up the act.
The steaming chicken soup was served. Cheng Lingxue stirred it gently with a spoon. The chicken was stewed until tender but not greasy, emitting a light fragrance of traditional herbs. The sight alone was enough to whet the appetite.
“Be careful, it’s hot. It was just ladled out, so don’t burn yourself.” As she spoke, Xie Shuyun asked the maid for a glass of warm water and placed it next to Cheng Lingxue’s bowl so she could rinse her mouth afterward.
Xie Shuyun rested her chin on her hand, watching Cheng Lingxue take small, elegant sips of the soup. It was a simple action, yet it radiated a grace and refined upbringing that Xie Shuyun felt she could never emulate.
Perhaps due to the hot soup, a faint flush appeared on Cheng Lingxue’s fair cheeks. The light steam rising from the bowl made her face appear somewhat hazy. Already a “Cold Fairy” with a sense of distance, she now seemed even more ethereal.
No wonder the original owner wanted to possess her. Xie Shuyun felt she understood the original owner’s mindset a bit—it was a dark human impulse to want to own beautiful things by any means necessary. There was likely a twisted sense of accomplishment in dragging a “fairy” down into the dust.
Of course, Xie Shuyun didn’t agree with that line of thinking. She wanted to live a long life and avoid a death flag. Thinking of this, she subconsciously touched the back of her neck. The memory of the pain there was still fresh. Can’t provoke her, definitely can’t provoke her.
After a while, Cheng Lingxue finished the soup. The moment she set the spoon down, a tissue was offered to her. Without looking up, she knew who it was. She didn’t stand on ceremony, taking the tissue to wipe the corners of her mouth while a maid removed the empty bowl.
“So, is there anything else you want?”
Lost in thought while rubbing her neck, Xie Shuyun snapped back to reality at the question and shook her head quickly.
“Nothing, nothing. You look like your color has returned.” Xie Shuyun racked her brain for a topic, but looking at Cheng Lingxue’s calm face and deep dark eyes, her mind went blank.
“Ah, right! I’ll send you today’s homework…” Mid-sentence, Xie Shuyun paused. She didn’t think… or rather, the original owner didn’t seem to have Cheng Lingxue’s contact information?
She stole a glance at Cheng Lingxue, figuring the girl wouldn’t want to give it to her anyway. Xie Shuyun tapped her head. “I’ll just write it down on a piece of paper for you. That’s clearer than a text or telling you verbally anyway.”
Cheng Lingxue, who had assumed this was all a ruse to get her contact info and had already prepared a rejection, was stunned by this sudden turn. She looked at Xie Shuyun with a complex expression, gave a slight nod, and stood up to leave.
While she wanted to figure out the other’s intentions, facing this version of Xie Shuyun was making her feel uncharacteristically unsettled. She needed time to reorganize her thoughts.
Seeing Cheng Lingxue leave, Xie Shuyun took a first-aid kit from a nearby cabinet, planning to change her own dressing. She had showered after getting home, and the bandage was damp. To prevent infection, it was better to swap it for a fresh one.
However, she stared at the kit in a daze. How did I know the kit was kept here? Did someone take it out in front of me before?
As she pondered, she tried to pick at the edge of the adhesive patch with her fingertip. Either the adhesive was too strong or the water had made it stickier, but she couldn’t get it off after several tries. She ended up reddening the skin around it, causing a stinging pain.
Just as she was considering calling someone for help, a warm breath brushed against her neck. Xie Shuyun’s hair stood on end, and she bolted upright from her seat with a sharp gasp.
Clutching her neck, she spun around only to see that Cheng Lingxue had turned back at some point and was standing right there. One of her hands was still raised, while the other was bracing the back of the chair. If she hadn’t held the chair, Xie Shuyun’s forceful standing would have likely sent the chair slamming straight into Cheng Lingxue’s abdomen.
“I… I’m sorry! I just… I got startled. Are you okay? Did I… did I hurt you?” Panicked, Xie Shuyun moved the chair aside and looked Cheng Lingxue up and down, terrified that the collision might have caused an injury.
Cheng Lingxue looked at Xie Shuyun’s expression and hid the complexity in her own eyes, deftly dodging Xie Shuyun’s attempt to grab her hand to check for injuries.
“I’m fine.” She pointed to the medicine Xie Shuyun had left on the table. “Apply the medicine.”
Does she mean she wants to help me again? Xie Shuyun blinked. She couldn’t understand Cheng Lingxue—one moment she didn’t want to be near her, and the next she was approaching of her own accord. The logic completely eluded her.
But under the gaze of Cheng Lingxue’s increasingly dark pupils, she obediently pulled the chair back and sat down with her back to her.
Hot breath once again brushed against Xie Shuyun’s neck, sending shivers down her spine. The adhesive patch seemed to give Cheng Lingxue trouble as well, as her fingertips lightly scratched and moved over it.
Unlike Xie Shuyun’s clumsiness, Cheng Lingxue’s movements were gentle, like a feather. She worked at the same spot for a long time, creating a wave of tingling itchiness. Combined with her breathing, Xie Shuyun felt like she was sitting on pins and needles—it was even harder to endure than the application at noon.
It wasn’t that the wound or skin hurt; it was a soul-deep itch that left her unsure whether to scratch or stay still. Ultimately, she chose to grip the seat cushion and lower her head, enduring the agonizingly slow process.
Rip… After much effort, the patch was finally removed. Cheng Lingxue used a tissue to clean away the residue. Fortunately, it hadn’t worsened; thanks to the ointment, the swelling had mostly subsided, though the teeth marks were still quite prominent.
She reapplied the medicine and placed a new patch, covering that embarrassing history. Cheng Lingxue took a step back.
“Done.”
“Oh! Okay! Thank you.” Touching her neck and feeling that everything was fine, Xie Shuyun stood up to thank her.
Before she could even process the shock of Xie Shuyun saying “thank you,” the sharp-eyed Cheng Lingxue noticed several stinging glares lingering on her from afar. She lowered her eyes to hide the coldness rising within them.
She shoved the ointment back into Xie Shuyun’s hand and turned to leave. This time she didn’t look back, heading straight upstairs and disappearing from view under Xie Shuyun’s dazed gaze.
She really has a personality… Tapping her head, Xie Shuyun reached out to clear the table, but out of the corner of her eye, she noticed several shifting figures. It was the group of young maids in their early twenties peeking from the kitchen door, whispering about something.
“What are you all doing?”
Perhaps not expecting Xie Shuyun to speak to them, the maids panicked slightly. With flushed faces, they tidied their uniforms and nudged each other awkwardly.
“Ah, Eldest Miss, we… were just…”
“…It’s break time…”
“Yes, yes! We’re going back to work in a moment!”
“Is that so? Rest well, then. Just don’t wander off, or Qin Yu might scold you. Keep up the good work.” Xie Shuyun smiled at them. She maintained a level of respect for those who served her.
“Thank you, Eldest Miss! I’ll take care of this!”
“No, no! Let me do it! Leave it to me!”
Xie Shuyun watched as the table was cleared in a whirlwind of efficiency. She couldn’t help but marvel that the people the Xie family hired were so enthusiastic and helpful, even competing to work during their breaks. Should I mention this to Qin Yu later and suggest a bonus to motivate them?
“Oh no! I haven’t given Lingxue the homework yet!” Suddenly remembering the task she had overlooked, Xie Shuyun hurried upstairs and jogged into her room. At her desk, she began to quickly transcribe the notes based on the messages Shang Yan had sent her.
