After Transmigrating as a Scum Alpha, a Cold Omega Stole My Heart - Chapter 9
On the weekend, they chose to go to the school library. It had an extensive collection of well-maintained and managed books and was open only to students and faculty. In terms of environment, it was far superior to public libraries.
The library was massive, and it was unexpectedly crowded. Everyone was either reading or buried deep in practice problems. However, the entrance of Xie Shuyun and Cheng Lingxue immediately drew everyone’s gaze.
It couldn’t be helped; two girls with such high-tier visuals walking together was not only a feast for the eyes but also a sighting of the two leads of this week’s biggest gossip—the Young Head of the Xie family and the Xie family’s adopted daughter! The students instantly lost interest in their books; their eyes followed the pair, reluctant to look away, and some even pulled out their phones to start taking photos.
Adjusting the strap of her crossbody bag, Xie Shuyun scanned the surroundings and found that there were basically no side-by-side seats left. There were plenty of single seats, but those were clearly unsuitable for a discussion.
“What should we do? It seems we came too late; there are no seats.” To maintain silence, Xie Shuyun didn’t dare speak loudly. She leaned in close to Cheng Lingxue’s ear and whispered.
The sudden tingling sensation caused by the puff of warm air made Cheng Lingxue’s body jerk. She nearly swiped the book in her hand right into the culprit’s face. She gripped her handouts so tightly the paper nearly deformed.
Ultimately, Cheng Lingxue endured it. She lowered her head slightly, her hair obscuring most of her expression. She took a step back before raising her hand to brush aside her stray hair. Her fingertips lightly touched her somewhat warm earlobe as she stared at Xie Shuyun with a long, unreadable gaze that made Xie Shuyun shiver.
“Sorry… I didn’t do it on purpose.” Although Xie Shuyun didn’t know exactly what she had done wrong, apologizing first was always the right move.
Seeing how quickly Xie Shuyun bowed her head, Cheng Lingxue was momentarily speechless. She tapped her student ID on a panel and said indifferently:
“I’ve already reserved a spot in the second-floor discussion area.”
Hearing this, Xie Shuyun breathed a sigh of relief. As expected of the female lead—she had foresight. Seeing Cheng Lingxue head upstairs, Xie Shuyun quickly followed.
The area upstairs was much better than the ground floor. It consisted of small semi-private spaces created with flower walls. The large ones could hold over a dozen people, while the smaller ones had four-person tables with sofa chairs. She couldn’t help but marvel at the school’s deep pockets.
Although the spaces weren’t completely enclosed, as long as they spoke softly, they wouldn’t disturb others.
Since there were only two of them, they naturally rented the smallest cubicle. Without hesitation, Cheng Lingxue sat in the innermost seat. Xie Shuyun looked around; sitting right next to the female lead was out of the question. After a thought, she sat in the outer seat, maintaining a diagonal, maximum distance from Cheng Lingxue.
“Should we start discussing the problems now?” Xie Shuyun asked for Cheng Lingxue’s opinion, pulling out a thick stack of test papers.
The Mathematical Olympiad was divided into three parts.
The first round was an individual competition. Rankings were based on test scores, which also served as the basis for entering the next stage. The individual scores of team members were added together; only the top thirty teams could advance to the second round. So, while it was called an “individual” round, working entirely alone was unrealistic.
The second round was a team competition. The top thirty teams were divided into ten groups to answer fifty questions in a “buzzer-beater” format. The highest scorers moved on.
The third round was a relay race, the ultimate test of chemistry. One person would start solving while the other waited behind a curtain; they would swap every five minutes for an hour. This meant the two teammates had to understand each other’s thought processes perfectly, or they would significantly drag down the solving speed.
“Solve the problems first, then discuss,” Cheng Lingxue said slowly, opening her pencil case and taking out a pen.
“Alright.”
The sound of pens scratching against paper soon filled the small cubicle. Aside from that, there was no other sound—a stark contrast to the low murmurs coming from other stalls.
Resting her chin on her hand, Xie Shuyun couldn’t help but marvel at how smart the original owner actually was. She hadn’t inherited her memories, but she had inherited her brain. Looking at the problems, the steps appeared in her mind automatically. Yet, even so, the original owner had still been ranked second. This showed just how formidable Cheng Lingxue was.
Thinking of this, Xie Shuyun’s gaze involuntarily drifted to Cheng Lingxue.
The girl’s cold face was now full of seriousness, her eyes reflecting deep focus. Outside the window above her, the faint sunlight spilled over her, giving her a hazy, ethereal beauty. While it added a touch of warmth to the girl, it also made her look as beautiful as a painting.
The girl raised her slender wrist, her fingertips gently brushing a stray lock of hair away from her face and tucking it behind her ear, revealing a small, pinkish earlobe. Unfortunately, it was only for a fleeting moment; as her fingers moved away, it was covered again, leaving a trace of disappointment in the observer’s heart.
Her eyes followed those hands, watching as Cheng Lingxue used a hair tie to gather her soft, long hair. Her snow-white neck was suddenly exposed, appearing almost translucent under the warm sun. The anti-bite device on her neck became even more prominent, making it impossible to look away.
Gulp… For some reason, Xie Shuyun felt a bit thirsty. She began to understand why Cheng Lingxue was the female lead… who else was qualified? It’s just that her background was so tragic, and her life before meeting the “destined” Alpha was so miserable. Sigh… being a female lead isn’t easy.
“What are you looking at?” The girl’s gaze swept over, filled with displeasure and scrutiny. Xie Shuyun snapped out of it, quickly retracting her gaze. She had actually been mesmerized and got caught… how embarrassing!
Cheng Lingxue watched as Xie Shuyun tucked her head in like an ostrich, showing only the top of her dark hair, as if doing so could erase what just happened. She was momentarily speechless.
She had only been observing for a few days, but Cheng Lingxue had sensed a lot. The old Xie Shuyun was annoying and gloomy, sharp-tongued, and loved petty tricks. Now, the person had changed significantly—she was softer, more considerate, a bit cowardly, but in some ways, also more shameless.
Rubbing her temples, she still couldn’t figure out what this person was trying to do. If Xie Shuyun could maintain this state, it would at least lower Cheng Lingxue’s stress levels. As long as she didn’t interfere with her plans… a flash of coldness crossed Cheng Lingxue’s eyes.
A chill rose from Xie Shuyun’s tailbone, making her shiver. She rubbed her arms. Who is talking about me behind my back?
And so, with one daydreaming and the other deep in thought, neither focused entirely on the Olympiad papers. However, their high IQs allowed them to both finish a set of problems in about an hour.
After a discussion, they discovered their problem-solving patterns were very similar. This meant the future coordination process should be quite smooth.
Perhaps bolstered by this good start, they finally put all their energy into the questions. Their speed increased significantly, and despite completing nearly half the work, it was already lunchtime.
“Should we take a break? The cafeteria is open today; want to go get lunch?” Xie Shuyun stacked the completed papers and tapped them on the table to neaten them. She looked at the time on her phone and made the suggestion.
“There’s a dining area in the library. We can buy food and bring it back.” As she spoke, Cheng Lingxue gestured in a certain direction with her pen.
Xie Shuyun stood up slightly to look. It was a glass-walled space in the corner of the first floor. She could see many people eating from lunchboxes there. Likely because it was still within the library premises, it wasn’t noisy, so many people were reading while they ate.
“Should you come with me to the cafeteria, or should I bring something back for you?” Xie Shuyun looked outside. Seeing the midday sun growing more intense, she felt it wasn’t right to let Cheng Lingxue go out in this weather. If that fair skin got sunburnt and affected the female lead’s beauty, it would be a major sin.
“I’ll go with you.” Putting down her pen, Cheng Lingxue didn’t hesitate much. The person seemed to have changed, but who knew if she was just waiting for her to let her guard down? It was better to handle her own food.
“Okay. Please wait for me for a moment; I’m going to the restroom. I’ll be right back.”
Receiving a nod from Cheng Lingxue, Xie Shuyun followed the signs to find the restroom. She looked at the facilities along the way; they weren’t just large, they looked brand new. Do they replace everything every year? This place felt incredibly extravagant.
Xie Shuyun entered the restroom and came out shortly after, drying her hands with a paper towel. She tossed the towel into the bin and prepared to head back.
But as she neared her seat, the unthinkable happened: she was being cornered—and over a romantic matter!
Standing before her was a petite Omega boy, a head shorter than her, with a “sweet and milky” appearance and light makeup. He looked at her with tearful, accusatory eyes, as if she were a “scum woman” who had wronged him. Xie Shuyun felt a wave of goosebumps.
She reminded herself that this world was different from her original one—this person was an Omega; she shouldn’t scare him.
However, before she could finish her self-hypnosis, the boy spoke in a soft, delicate voice that matched his image, laced with a hint of sobbing:
“Senior Xie, you promised to go out with me this weekend… how… how could you stand me up… I waited for you at our meeting spot for three hours! Wuwu… how could you do this to me…” By the end, the little Omega boy was sobbing, looking utterly aggrieved and pitiful.
The boy’s voice wasn’t muffled, and it quickly drew the attention of many. People began pointing and whispering, leaving Xie Shuyun at a complete loss.
And when she met the dark, deep gaze of Cheng Lingxue—who had stepped out of the cubicle at some point—she shivered even harder.
This… this is all a misunderstanding! This is the original owner’s fault, not mine!
