After Transmigrating as a Scumbag Alpha, My Omega Underwent a Second Differentiation - Chapter 14
In the shadow beside an abandoned stage set in the northwest corner of the fifth floor stood a woman.
One hand rested on the somewhat loose prop railing in front of her, while the other held half a lit cigarette. The cigarette was loosely balanced between her fingers, its red tip flickering on and off in the dim, unclear room.
The sound of footsteps coming from behind made the sensor light at the entrance suddenly turn on.
By that light, one could glimpse the woman’s ear-length blond hair. It did not look dyed. Even the roots were entirely golden, without the slightest trace of black. It was short and neat.
Hearing the footsteps draw closer, she turned around the moment the person entered.
“You’re here.”
Her voice was somewhat hoarse, but not unpleasant. She wore a white tweed suit in a Chanel-inspired style, setting off the proportions of her upper and lower body just right. Paired with that overly fair face, so pale that the capillaries could almost be seen, she was much better-looking than most of the actors in this building.
The moment Yun Rong entered, she smelled a faint scent of smoke. After seeing the cigarette between the other woman’s fingers, a slightly disgusted look appeared in her eyes. Her feet did not move any closer. Instead, she stopped several meters away.
“Why did you suddenly want to meet? Is there something urgent?”
Yun Rong had just finished teasing Sheng Yinglan and was in a good mood at the moment, so she did not beat around the bush and asked directly.
Seeing that Yun Rong was unwilling to come closer, the woman lowered her head to look at the cigarette in her hand. A helpless smile appeared at the corner of her lips. Then she casually pressed the cigarette against the railing to extinguish it before taking a few steps toward Yun Rong.
Only when her appearance, clearly bearing foreign ancestry, was exposed beneath the sensor light did she stop.
“It’s not exactly urgent. It’s just some old, rotten matters from the Lin family. They aren’t easy to dig up, so it may have to be delayed a little longer than expected. I figured I should at least inform you in person.”
The woman’s Mandarin was very standard, but it always carried a stiff, proper quality, like she had practiced by following a broadcaster’s accent. One hand was in her pocket, while the other brushed aside the stray hair covering her forehead. Her movements carried a bit of boldness, but her tone was very casual.
This notice was not good news for Yun Rong. Her expression became somewhat grave, but she did not speak for a long time. Instead, she stared at the woman opposite her with a sharp gaze, as though trying to detect some clue from the smallest traces.
“Song Qi.”
After a long while, Yun Rong finally spoke.
“I’ll give you one month. I can temporarily leave that music production company under the Lin family alone.”
At this point, she paused. Her left eyebrow lifted slightly, revealing a carefree smile.
“However, I am a little curious. With your usual style of passing through countless flowers without letting a single leaf touch you, why are you suddenly paying so much attention to a little singer this time?”
It was not exactly gossip. It was just that she and Song Qi were currently in a cooperative relationship. If Song Qi had truly developed feelings, then Yun Rong would have to factor in some variables.
Song Qi narrowed her eyes as if she had heard something amusing and explained, “After all, I have to deal with my old man. Some small, obvious little tricks on the surface are too deliberate. I have to bring out something real before he’ll thoroughly believe that I’m serious. Don’t worry. It’s only one month late. It won’t delay the real business.”
She said this frankly and gave such an assurance that Yun Rong could be considered reassured.
Yun Rong had originally wanted to remind her of a few more things, but unexpectedly, the phone in her pocket rang.
It was Sheng Yinglan calling. Presumably, she was done with her matter.
Yun Rong did not want to answer the call in front of Song Qi, so she intended to signal that she would leave first.
Who knew Song Qi had already leaned over curiously? Seeing the name on the caller ID, she imitated Yun Rong’s gossiping tone from earlier and asked cheaply, “Progress on your side is faster than I imagined. I heard from Shang Luo that you couldn’t hold back that night and bit her. After being a monk for so many years, are you finally returning to worldly life?”
She stared at Yun Rong with ill intent and even boldly moved closer to sniff around her.
“I knew I smelled a bit of your pheromones. Don’t you usually cover yourself up completely? What happened today? Could it be because you knew someone was waiting, so you couldn’t hold back?”
Yun Rong was not polite at all. With some disgust, she pushed aside the head leaning close to her.
“Mind your own business.”
Her tone carried a hint of impatience. The ringtone was still ringing, and she had no time to tangle with Song Qi.
“In the future, there’s no need to specially call me over for this kind of matter.”
After saying that, she left without looking back.
When Sheng Yinglan heard the director finally speak and say that she had passed the audition and obtained the role, she did not show much excitement. After all, with her battle-tested ability, a small audition like this was naturally nothing difficult.
She politely thanked the director, exchanged contact information, confirmed the filming date, and then planned to leave.
Xiao Yuanxi, on the other hand, did not come back to her senses for a long time.
Sheng Yinglan’s performance had simply exceeded her expectations. Although Xiao Yuanxi was not a professional, even she could see that this acting skill was probably stronger than ninety-nine percent of the actors in this building.
Sheng Yinglan had once again overturned her understanding of her.
More importantly, after an ordinary actor finished an audition, whether they succeeded or not, they would usually stay at the scene to chat with the staff or the director. After all, in the entertainment industry, one more connection meant one more path. If they did not get this project, perhaps the director might remember them for the next one.
But Sheng Yinglan had no such intention at all.
From beginning to end, she calmly completed the audition, finished what she needed to do, and then politely said goodbye, as though she had some urgent matter.
Xiao Yuanxi came back to her senses and hurriedly chased after her.
“Are you going back now? I happen to be going back too. Wait for me to say goodbye to the director, and we can go together. It’s on the way anyway.”
Actually, Xiao Yuanxi wanted to ride home with Sheng Yinglan and indirectly chat with her. After all, she felt that this person before her was far too different from the person she had come to know through the trending searches.
Sheng Yinglan was stopped by her. No special expression appeared on her face, but her speech sped up slightly.
“Thank you for today. The audition went very smoothly. We’ll inevitably see each other during filming later, so I hope we can cooperate well then. But I still have something to do today. I made an appointment to meet someone, so I can’t wait for you. Let’s leave it at that for now. Goodbye.”
She did not give Xiao Yuanxi another chance to speak. After politely and thoroughly expressing her meaning, she left directly.
Seeing that Sheng Yinglan really seemed to have something urgent, Xiao Yuanxi did not try to keep her.
However, when she went back inside, Director Wang pulled her aside.
“Which agency is your friend from? Has she acted in anything before? With acting like that, she should have become famous a long time ago. But I don’t have much impression of her.”
Xiao Yuanxi only half understood things herself. After all, among the rumors about Sheng Yinglan online, she had never heard that Sheng Yinglan was also an actress.
She shook her head at Director Wang.
“I’m not too clear on that. We haven’t known each other for very long either!”
She laughed it off, but then heard Director Wang say thoughtfully, “But I feel like she looks a little familiar. It’s like I’ve seen her somewhere in the past couple of days.”
Xiao Yuanxi immediately thought of the trending searches that had lasted all day yesterday. Then she pretended not to know and asked back, “Really? Maybe you accidentally ran into her before while filming some project.”
She did not want Director Wang to have any preconceived impression of Sheng Yinglan. After all, the other woman truly had ability, so she did not tell the truth.
Fortunately, Director Wang was not intentionally pursuing the matter, so nothing was exposed.
When Sheng Yinglan arrived downstairs, she saw Yun Rong standing below the steps from far away, her back facing the building, as though she had already been waiting for quite some time.
Yun Rong had outstanding looks and a good figure. Even in a place where actors came and went, she was extremely eye-catching. Many people passing by would unconsciously glance at her.
However, perhaps because of her cold temperament and the expensive car parked behind her, no one rashly rushed up to her.
Sheng Yinglan had originally been walking down quickly, but now that she saw her, she instead slowed her steps.
She adjusted her breathing and looked herself up and down. After confirming that nothing was inappropriate, she walked over.
After receiving Sheng Yinglan’s call, Yun Rong had directly left the building. She had not waited long when she heard footsteps behind her and turned around.
“Are you done with your matter?”
The moment Sheng Yinglan saw Yun Rong, she unconsciously remembered what had happened in the corridor earlier.
She coughed lightly, hiding her emotions, before nodding.
“I forgot to ask earlier. How is it such a coincidence that you also appeared here?”
Only after such a long time had passed did she finally remember to ask this. It felt a little like she was trying to find something to say, and also like she was worried Yun Rong would mention what happened earlier, so she took the initiative to change the topic first.
Yun Rong did not intend to expose her. Instead, she answered seriously.
“There’s an investment matter for a film that needs to be discussed, so I came over to take a look. I just didn’t expect to run into you.”
She stopped there. Although her words did not ask why Sheng Yinglan had come here, for some reason, they made Sheng Yinglan feel guilty for hiding it from her.
Sheng Yinglan had not intended to hide it from Yun Rong in the first place. It was only because the result had been uncertain earlier, and she had been worried that it would be embarrassing if she mentioned it but failed.
Now, she had no such burden. Before Yun Rong could ask, she eagerly explained on her own.
“I went to audition for an MV just now. The director made the decision, and I passed. Filming will start in a few days.”
Yun Rong was genuinely somewhat surprised. After all, the information she had never showed that Sheng Yinglan had any talent in this area.
Moreover, a few days ago, Sheng Yinglan had still been extremely dejected. Now, she had suddenly become active, even confirming work. This kind of execution ability was indeed impressive.
Yun Rong had originally thought her proposal would be extremely attractive to Sheng Yinglan. Now, she could not help feeling a little worried.
However, she was used to not showing any emotion on her face. After her surprise, she still maintained her composure.
“That really is good news. It deserves a proper celebration. But I didn’t expect you to like acting.”
Sheng Yinglan had considered that returning to her old profession might cause others to suspect the original owner. But she had to eat, after all. Besides, Sheng Yinglan had never had any proper job before, so people who were not familiar with her probably would not pay too much attention to this point.
“I’ve liked it for a long time. I just never had the opportunity before.”
She gave an ambiguous explanation, hoping not to arouse Yun Rong’s suspicion.
Fortunately, the other woman only nodded and did not seem to intend to dig deeper.
Just as Sheng Yinglan relaxed slightly, Yun Rong moved a little closer to her and bent down.
This familiar movement suddenly made Sheng Yinglan’s scalp go numb. Just as she was about to take two steps back, Yun Rong stopped her.
“Don’t move. Let me check.”
