- Chapter 10 - Hurry and Feed Me
Fang Ruoya finished her makeup and walked over.
But she vaguely felt she might have chosen the wrong seat. Xu Zhixia wouldn’t spare her a single glance, and Ji Mian kept her head down, avoiding her too.
One was intensely gazing, the other was avoiding eye contact. Fang Ruoya wondered if something had happened between the two of them.
“Mian Mian,” Xu Zhixia suddenly spoke, staring at the piece of steak on Ji Mian’s fork, she smiled and opened her mouth, saying, “Ah.”
Ji Mian’s fingers stiffened for a moment, and she silently ate the steak herself.
Xu Zhixia forced a smile, inwardly screaming: Such a straight Alpha! Straight Alpha! I want to eat what you’re eating!
“Mian Mian,” seeing Ji Mian cut another piece, Xu Zhixia opened her mouth and called out plaintively, Don’t embarrass me!
Ji Mian ate it again, pointing to Xu Zhixia’s own steak: “Don’t you have your own? If you don’t eat it, it will get cold.”
“But I want yours,” the other woman said shamelessly.
“Why?”
“Food from someone else’s plate always tastes the best.”
Ji Mian: “…” She guarded her food. “No.”
Xu Zhixia, having failed to amuse herself, let out a “Hmph.”
“Then help me cut mine.”
“Don’t you have hands?”
“I just want to eat yours.” Xu Zhixia repeated the “Ah.”
Ji Mian had no choice. She picked up Xu Zhixia’s fork, but her delicate hand pressed down on it.
“Why don’t you use your own fork to feed me? Are you disgusted with me? Are you disgusted with my saliva or yours? Don’t worry, I won’t be disgusted with you,” Xu Zhixia raised an eyebrow. Ji Mian wasn’t sure if her rut had passed, but seeing her playful expression, her heart suddenly softened, tingling like a feather stroke.
Her hand seemed to move on its own, cutting a piece and slowly feeding it to Xu Zhixia.
Xu Zhixia finished it with satisfaction, not forgetting to say how delicious it was.
Fang Ruoya ate her own food blankly. She felt like she had missed something. The relationship between these two seemed even more ambiguous than before. No, my eyes must be playing tricks on me. No, my ears must be broken. Xu Zhixia actually said things like that! Unbelievable, absolutely unbelievable!
“By the way, Ziqing just finished her work and heard you were here, Zhixia, so she was thinking of coming over to catch up. If you two are free, we might as well go play a scary escape room,” Fang Ruoya finished reading a message and smiled at them.
“Scary escape room?” Xu Zhixia had never played before, but she enjoyed reading horror novels, so she instantly became interested.
She asked Ji Mian, “Mian Mian, are you going? If you go, I’ll go.”
Ji Mian thought the time was still early, so she agreed.
She hadn’t even finished agreeing before Xu Zhixia showed a shy expression: “Mian Mian, you have to protect me, okay? I knew you would protect me~”
Ji Mian: Can your brain function normally!!
Fang Ruoya finished her steak, wiped her mouth, and said contentedly, “Regardless, thank you for treating us to dinner. It would be even better if all seven of us were here.”
Xu Zhixia recalled their group reality show and how happy she was back then—a joy she hadn’t experienced in years. She nodded slightly, “That day will come.”
Ji Mian was startled. What is she talking about?
After the three finished eating, Lan Ziqing arrived at the restaurant entrance.
She was one of the few group members Xu Zhixia could talk to at length. Since both were talented and admired strength, they had a mutual affinity.
“I didn’t expect four of us from theabo to reunite. I’m so happy.” Lan Ziqing took Xu Zhixia’s arm.
Xu Zhixia quietly pulled her arm away and gently linked arms with Ji Mian instead.
She smiled and said, “Yes, it’s been a long time since we saw each other.”
Fang Ruoya giggled, “Of course it’s been a long time since you saw her.”
Ji Mian twitched her mouth, “Let’s go play first.” She was genuinely afraid the three of them would start arguing if they kept talking.
They arrived fully geared up at a large escape room facility nearby.
They were told only six people could play together, so they teamed up with a male Alpha/Omega couple who had just arrived.
The male Omega tightly held the male Alpha’s hand, nervously saying, “Oh dear, I’m so scared.”
The male Alpha comforted him, “Don’t be afraid, your husband is here! If you see anything scary later, just jump right into my arms.”
The male Omega’s eyes welled up with tears, and he said emotionally, “Husband, you’re so sweet. Give me a kiss, mua.”
Xu Zhixia watched the entire scene, pondering something. She tugged on Ji Mian’s sleeve and said, “You’ll protect me, won’t you?”
Ji Mian glanced at her sleeve: “If you keep pulling, you’re going to tear my shirt.”
Xu Zhixia let go but linked her arm with Ji Mian’s again: “I’ll be scared if you don’t protect me.”
“Then be scared.”
Xu Zhixia: “…” You hurt my feelings too much.
“If I get scared, can I hide in your arms?” Xu Zhixia blinked, shaking Ji Mian’s hand.
To get rid of her, Ji Mian had no choice but to nod in agreement.
The other woman then pushed her luck, “Then, should we exchange a mua now?”
Ji Mian: “…”
A little later, the staff came over and told them they could enter.
The theme of this horror escape room was a haunted inn.
Standing at the entrance, no one dared to go in first.
Ji Mian bravely volunteered to go first, with Xu Zhixia following closely behind her.
Fang Ruoya and Lan Ziqing went in second, and the two male Alpha/Omega partners went in last.
Unexpectedly, there were three entrances inside, so the groups were separated.
Ji Mian and Xu Zhixia stuck close together. The lighting inside was dim, and something could pop out at any moment.
Xu Zhixia pretended to be very afraid, leaning on Ji Mian. Her delicate, small chin rested on Ji Mian’s shoulder, causing a slight ache, but mostly a much stronger ache.
“Xu Zhixia, you stepped on my foot!”
“I’m sorry.” Xu Zhixia gently moved her foot, secretly trying to see Ji Mian’s expression, but the lighting was too dark to tell if she was angry or indifferent.
The two walked a few steps, feeling the space open up significantly. A small bed was placed in front of them.
She glanced sideways and saw a skull hidden underneath the bed—a prop skull. She had even touched one while filming a movie, so she just scoffed internally.
An inconspicuous box was placed on top of the bed.
Ji Mian opened the box. Inside were two small cards.
She was about to sit on the edge of the bed to read the contents when she accidentally kicked something. It seemed to hit an object under the bed.
Bending down to look, she saw a skull staring right at her. Its bare teeth seemed to be grinning, and its two pitch-black, hollow eye sockets looked like deep abysses.
This was the first time Ji Mian had seen a skull. Although she knew it was fake, she couldn’t help but jump, crying out faintly, and quickly stumbled backward a few steps.
She bumped into Xu Zhixia behind her, falling into her embrace. A rich scent of mint instantly hit her, similar to the scent when she tackled Xu Zhixia a few days ago. It smelled wonderful, and Ji Mian’s ears suddenly felt intensely hot. Xu Zhixia smiled and patted her back, chuckling, “Don’t be afraid, don’t be afraid. Mommy’s here.” The pheromones in Ji Mian’s body automatically started to release. Xu Zhixia greedily inhaled the scent, her heart starting to race.
“The orange-scented pheromones smell really good.”
Ji Mian quickly took control, glancing at the half-smiling Xu Zhixia. She remembered how terrified Xu Zhixia was moments ago, and now she was protecting her. She’s faking it. She must be faking it.
“What’s written on the card?”
“Just the story of this inn, nothing much.” Ji Mian quickly scanned the contents.
Xu Zhixia said “Oh,” and tightly held her hand. “Let’s go look elsewhere. I need to hold your hand, just in case you abandon me.”
Ji Mian: “…”
The two walked a few steps forward, passing through a long living room where many clothes were displayed.
They were mostly from the Republican era. A small, vintage telephone sat quietly on the table, quaint and serene, appearing utterly lonely in the dark environment.
Xu Zhixia suddenly let out a startled “Ah,” which made Ji Mian turn around and ask, “Why are you making such a fuss for no reason?”
Xu Zhixia put on a pathetic expression: “Do you think the NPCs might be hiding nearby? They could be watching us from somewhere, maybe right by the window!”
The NPCs hidden behind the curtains, who happened to hear her, couldn’t help but praise her inwardly: This one’s quite smart.
Ji Mian said, “I don’t know if they’re by the window, but I’m sure they’re right under your feet.”
Xu Zhixia feigned fear, pressing herself against Ji Mian and using her Movie Queen acting skills: “I’m so scared.”
Ji Mian was pushed against the wall. She had to push her away and shout, “Can you just be normal?”
Xu Zhixia stopped, looking down helplessly, like a child who had been scolded for misbehaving.
“Does Mian Mian think I’m annoying?”
Yes, absolutely! Ji Mian swallowed, deciding it was best not to speak. She made eye contact with her and swallowed again. What an enchantress, what an enchantress. With eyes so pitiful, who wouldn’t be charmed?
Suddenly, the phone rang.
The ringing sound was particularly jarring in the silent surroundings.
Ji Mian picked it up. All she heard was an emotionless recorded voice.
Heh… such a tired horror trope!
Xu Zhixia was still standing by the wall. The nearby curtain suddenly moved, and a large hand reached out and grabbed Xu Zhixia’s shoulder.
Xu Zhixia’s entire body tensed up. She spun around confidently, first kicking the NPC twice, then crying and screaming as she fled into Ji Mian’s arms, saying tearfully, “Mian Mian, I’m so scared. That person grabbed me…”
The NPC was so frightened that he quickly left the scene, eventually collapsing on the floor, gasping in pain and shouting, “Can we get some normal people here! It’s too hard being an NPC these days!”
Sensing the beautiful woman trembling in her arms, Ji Mian actually thought she was genuinely terrified, so she comforted her, “It’s alright, it’s alright. You scared him away.”
Xu Zhixia lifted her pitiful face, her eyes filled with tears, “Do you think I’m very fierce?”
You’ve always been very fierce.
Ji Mian chuckled, “No, not fierce.”
“Then do you think I’m a coward?”
The NPC ran away from you. Why would you be a coward? Ji Mian smiled, “No, I’ll protect you.”
Upon hearing the word “protect,” Xu Zhixia’s heart burst with joy. She happily continued to lean on her. Before she could settle in, Ji Mian ruthlessly shoved her away.
Xu Zhixia: “…” Filming is so effing exhausting, and she doesn’t even understand me!!
Ji Mian opened the curtain in front of them. Seeing something, her body suddenly jumped backward, and she once again fell into Xu Zhixia’s arms. This time, Xu Zhixia absolutely would not let go.
