After Transmigrating as the Omega Fiance of the Cannon Fodder Top - Chapter 3
Just as the book described, Shu Baiyu was still in university.
When he returned to the dormitory that night, he found no one else there. Thinking of the crowd of “fair-weather friends” that used to surround the original host, Shu Baiyu decisively chose to ignore them and went straight to bed.
However, because he had returned so late, he was bleary-eyed when he woke up the next morning and had to rush to his early classes.
Many people looked back at him along the way. At first, he didn’t take it seriously; he walked into the classroom with heavy eyelids and, after a brief scan of the room, sat directly in the corner of the back row.
The original host’s university and major were identical to his own: Finance. He hadn’t been much of a student before transmigrating, and that certainly hadn’t changed now. As soon as he sat down, he pulled up his hoodie and slumped onto the desk to catch up on sleep.
This was a large lecture class—crowded and noisy. He had been lying there for a while when the surrounding chatter grew even louder.
That would have been fine, but it seemed to be a mid-class break. The people in front of him turned around to talk, their voices unrestrained and so loud he couldn’t sleep at all.
“Brother Lu, so whose little Omega did those pheromones on you last night belong to? Come on, tell me. I won’t tell a soul.”
Wei Li had twisted half his body around, speaking toward the person sitting silently in the far corner with lowered eyelids.
When Lu Xingzhou finally heard him and looked over, Wei Li immediately raised his hand to swear to the heavens. “Hey, I’m the most loyal guy in our group. Trust me. I won’t tell the bros you had a romantic encounter. And I definitely won’t tell your fiancé… Not that he’d care; he deserves it for leaving a top-tier Alpha like you hanging while he runs off chasing other people.”
Lu Xingzhou didn’t speak, but his gaze toward Wei Li was one of blatant disgust.
“No, really, I’m saying—”
Wei Li was used to that look and instead leaned in closer to continue whispering. But the person who had been sleeping beside them suddenly lifted his head.
Wei Li froze as the Omega he had seen just last night lifted his eyelids and swept a cold, indifferent gaze over him. Although he didn’t speak, the low pressure radiating from him made his annoyance clear.
“Wait…?” Wei Li blurted out as his brain short-circuited. “Aren’t you that fickle fiancé?”
Shu Baiyu’s expression didn’t flicker. He glanced at him and then lowered his eyes again. “You’re noisy.”
Wei Li choked.
Sitting in the innermost seat, Lu Xingzhou turned his gaze over. He had recognized Shu Baiyu from the start, but the other party had sat down right next to him as if he hadn’t even seen him, trapping him in the corner. When Wei Li returned from buying breakfast, he had been forced to sit in the row in front of them.
Lu Xingzhou remained silent, curious to see when Shu Baiyu would finally notice him.
After saying those words, Shu Baiyu slumped back down, showing no further reaction.
Wei Li, realizing he had just gossiped about the person right to his face, broke into a slight sweat. It wasn’t until he saw Shu Baiyu fall back into a deep sleep that another realization hit him: “Wait, why is he here? That’s not right.”
Lu Xingzhou usually didn’t participate in their gossip, only hearing occasional bits of school rumors, so he didn’t know the details. Hearing this, he looked up. “What’s not right?”
Wei Li carefully peeked at the person facedown on the desk and whispered the context: “…Qi Yan is in this class too. Shouldn’t he be sticking to Qi Yan like glue? Why did he come here today?”
Lu Xingzhou looked toward the front of the classroom. Sure enough, near the third row, he spotted an Alpha who happened to be looking back toward them at that very moment.
However, as soon as Qi Yan’s gaze landed on the hooded head slumped next to Lu Xingzhou, he immediately and sharply looked away. His eyes betrayed an involuntary sense of irritation.
Lu Xingzhou’s eyes flickered. “Qi Yan doesn’t like him?”
“Damn, you really don’t care about your own fiancé at all. But then again, he’s not exactly good to you either. You two really are a match made in heaven,” Wei Li couldn’t help but exclaim. After receiving a look from Lu Xingzhou, he rubbed his head and said, “It’s not exactly that he doesn’t like him… Shu Baiyu hid the fact that he was engaged at first. After pursuing Qi Yan for a while, they got together.”
“It’s just that after Shu Baiyu was exposed, Qi Yan broke up with him immediately. If they had some feelings before, they definitely don’t now. You can’t blame Qi Yan; the guy has been relentless since the breakup, pestering him 24/7. Any Alpha would lose their mind.”
Mainly, Wei Li felt that his brother’s head was looking a bit tragic. He was being cheated on—or “greened”—quite blatantly.
Lu Xingzhou’s expression remained unchanged, showing no reaction at all.
Wei Li knew he didn’t care and leaned in to offer a suggestion: “Since neither of you likes the other, why not just break off the engage—”
Before he could finish, Lu Xingzhou gave him a faint, sidelong glance. His fingers loosened, and the pen he was holding rolled across the desk and hit the floor with a loud clatter.
Class had just resumed, and the room was quiet, making the sound exceptionally loud. Several students turned around, and even the lecturer cleared his throat with a warning look.
Unfazed, Lu Xingzhou looked at Wei Li and said, “Hand slipped. Dropped it by accident.”
Wei Li: “…”
Furthermore, Wei Li watched as Shu Baiyu, who had been sleeping for so long, slowly lifted his head. His face stiffened. “You… you weren’t asleep?”
Shu Baiyu didn’t say a word, and his expression was neutral, as if the person who had just heard Wei Li’s murmurs wasn’t him. Embarrassed, Wei Li scratched his head and turned back around.
Lu Xingzhou moved his gaze from Wei Li to Shu Baiyu’s face for a moment. There was a red mark on Shu Baiyu’s cheek where he had been leaning on his arm, standing out vividly against his pale skin. Up close, he noticed that Shu Baiyu wasn’t just fair; his skin had a sickly, porcelain pallor.
He had prominent features. Having briefly held him the night before and watched him beat someone up, Lu Xingzhou knew he wasn’t as frail as he looked. He had a small frame, but beneath that thin layer of skin was a lean strength; when he fought, his muscles pulled into beautiful, thin arcs that were surprisingly striking.
Unconsciously, Lu Xingzhou rubbed his fingertips.
Shu Baiyu had recognized him by now. The fact that Lu Xingzhou hadn’t joined in with Wei Li’s gossip gave Shu Baiyu a slight sense of goodwill toward him. He leaned down, picked up the pen that had rolled to his feet, and handed it back.
Lu Xingzhou whispered a “thanks,” his gaze sweeping over Shu Baiyu’s face.
For the rest of the class, no more noise came from his side.
Before returning to school the previous night, Shu Baiyu had gone to a convenience store to buy suppressants. However, since he had never used them before—and because Lu Xingzhou’s help in the restroom had mostly resolved his issue—he hadn’t used them yet. He was only slightly affected now: a slightly high body temperature and some lingering drowsiness.
When he bought the suppressants, he had also bought several other items recommended by the cashier to avoid future trouble. However, he couldn’t distinguish their actual uses, so he had a pile of items currently “under investigation.”
Feeling bored and having no intention of actually paying attention to the lecture, he reached into his pocket and pulled out two boxes of well-packaged items. Another box he had stuffed in his pocket that morning accidentally fell out.
Seeing Lu Xingzhou lean over to pick it up, Shu Baiyu didn’t pay it much mind and focused on the two boxes in front of him. According to the labels, one was a “suppressant patch” and the other was an “odor-blocking patch.” He shook the boxes, and they rattled.
Just as he was using his nails to pick at the box to open it for study, Lu Xingzhou finally reached over to hand back the fallen item.
“Thanks.” Without looking up, Shu Baiyu took it and placed it on the desk.
Lu Xingzhou’s gaze froze on the item for a moment, then he turned to look at Shu Baiyu, who was seriously unpacking the boxes with his head down.
He pursed his lips and spoke, his tone complex: “…You’re going to open those right now?”
Shu Baiyu nodded, pulling out a small, white square that looked like a medicinal plaster. As he started on the next package, he said, “Help me open these.”
Lu Xingzhou froze, looking at him with a look of “hesitating to speak” for a long time. Sensing the gaze, Shu Baiyu didn’t react. “If you don’t want to, then forget it.”
“…”
Lu Xingzhou glanced at the boxes placed so blatantly on the desk, fell silent for a moment, and eventually took them and began to unpack them as requested.
Shu Baiyu picked up the suppressant patch and sniffed it; it didn’t have a strange smell, and the texture didn’t feel like a typical plaster. Just as he was about to peel it off to feel it, a small stack of condoms was suddenly held out in front of him.
Following the palm upward, he met Lu Xingzhou’s face.
Right now, on that face that usually showed no interest in the outside world, the lip line was slightly taut and the eyes were narrowed as he quietly watched Shu Baiyu. “For you.”
Only then did Shu Baiyu’s attention shift to the box Lu Xingzhou had opened. It was clearly labeled with three words: “Safety Sleeves” (Condoms).
Shu Baiyu’s brow twitched. He gave a flat “Oh,” and didn’t take them. “Keep them.”
The hand in front of him paused for a second before withdrawing.
Shu Baiyu continued his work. He read the long list of instructions for a while but still couldn’t figure out the actual use or difference between the two types of patches. Eventually, his patience ran out. He stuffed the instructions back in and turned his gaze to Lu Xingzhou, who had turned back to listen to the lecture.
Lu Xingzhou had already put away the box. He had no idea what the Jian family’s youngest son was up to. After a moment of silence and shifting his focus back to the class, two gland patches were suddenly dropped onto his lap.
Shu Baiyu’s hooded head showed only a few strands of long bangs as he looked down at Lu Xingzhou’s lap. “Which one should I use?”
Lu Xingzhou: “…”
His Adam’s apple moved as his gaze fell back on the Omega who seemed to have no sense of propriety. Suppressant and odor-blocking patches were considered private items for an Omega; Shu Baiyu’s behavior was practically a blatant provocation.
But when his eyes met Shu Baiyu’s face, he realized the other party genuinely looked confused.
Receiving no immediate answer, Shu Baiyu prompted him again: “Which one?”
Lu Xingzhou lowered his arm. His fingertips hovered between the two patches for a few seconds before he flicked the pink suppressant patch. His Adam’s apple rolled as he whispered: “…This one.”
